Dale Gariety
Dale J. Gariety, 47, 1360 Miller Road, Russia, died at 12:05 a.m. Sept. 2, 2003, at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton. An autopsy was to be performed at the Montgomery County Coroner's Office.
He was born June 21, 1956, in Greenville, to Paul N. and Iona M. Brunswick Gariety. They survive in Russia.
Also surviving are a brother, Dennis of Russia; and two sisters, Diane (Ronald L.) Siegrist, Maria Stein, and Darlene (Matt) Monnin, Russia.
Deceased are a sister, Doris Gariety, and the grandparents, Leo and Theresa Dapore Gariety and Ferd and Frances Heitbrink Brunswick.
He was employed at The Dannon Company in Minster and engaged in farming. A 1975 graduate of Russia High School, he was a member of St. Remy Catholic Church, Russia.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Frank Amberger officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Calling is 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles.

Rev. James Grothjan
Rev. James Grothjan, C.PP.S., 78, died at 1:45 p.m. Aug. 31, 2003, in the infirmary at St. Charles Center, Carthagena, after battling prostate cancer since 1995.
He was born Feb. 1, 1925, in Celina, to Jerome and Adelaide Kenny Grothjan.
Survivors are a brother, Harry (Emily) of Lima; a sister, Margaret (Marc) Smalley, Centerville; and 12 nieces and nephews.
He entered the Missionaries of the Precious Blood on Sept. 6, 1939, and was ordained on May 24, 1951, in Carthagena. He served at churches in Kansas, Missouri, Ottawa, Ohio, before joining the U.S. Air Force as chaplain in 1956. Following retirement from the military, he served as chaplain at Elgin Air Force Base, Fla.
Funeral Mass is 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Charles Center, the Rev. Angelo Anthony officiating. Burial is at the Community Cemetery. A memorial Mass also will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at Elgin Air Force Base West Gate Chapel.
Calling is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at St. Charles Center where a wake service will be held at 7 p.m. today and before Mass on Thursday.
Elene Stahr
Elene J. "Helen" Stahr, 66, of Southmoor Shores, St. Marys, died Aug. 31, 2003, at her brother's home in Northville, Mich., following an extended illness.
She was born March 11, 1937, in Staten Island, N.Y., to John and Penelopi Pappas. Her husband, Bill G. Stahr, died Sept. 8, 1998.
Survivors are a son, David (Linda) of Maryland; two daughters, Dedra (Charles) Chinn, and Susan (Alan) Thompson, all of Dayton; two brothers, Peter (Janet) Pappas of Pennsylvania, and George (Carole) Pappas of Northville; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
She was an elementary teacher at St. Marys City Schools for 26 years and an active member of the Parent/Teacher Organization and the St. Marys Education Association, serving on the negotiation team. She and her husband were Amway Distributors and together established Stahr Video Productions in 1982. She was treasurer of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Orthodox Church, Farmington Hills, Mich. Burial is at Rural Hill Cemetery, Northville, Mich.
Calling is 2-9 p.m. today at Northrup-Sassaman Funeral Home, Northville, where a Trisagion service will be held at 7 p.m.
A memorial service will be held in St. Marys at a later date.

Donnie Bradner
Donnie E. Bradner, 30, Star Avenue, Fostoria, died Aug. 29, 2003, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys. Death was due to natural causes.
He was born Jan. 1, 1973, in Findlay, to Donald and Malinda Swyers Bradner. On Nov. 5, 1992, he married Stephanie A. Shiley who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Shawn and Donn, and a stepdaughter, Briana Shiley, all at home; three brothers, Shawn and Tim, both of Amsden; and a half brother, Jerry Bradner, Columbus. He also has relatives residing in the Mercer and Auglaize counties.
His parents are deceased.
He was employed as a dispatcher with High Hopes Trucking Co., Bloomdale. He was a 1992 graduate of Lakota High School and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
Services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, the Rev. Donald Goodwin officiating.
Calling is after noon Thursday at the funeral home.

Evelyn Carmean
Evelyn C. Carmean, 74, 14888 Ohio 66 North, St. Marys, died at 9:35 a.m. Aug. 30, 2003, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
She was born April 30, 1929, in Wapakoneta, to Millard and Hilda Schweitzer Koenig. On April 10, 1948, she married L.G. Carmean who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Terry (Deb) of St. Marys and Michael (Patricia) of Toledo; a daughter, Diane (David) Blackburn, Wapakoneta; a brother, Donald (Jackie) Koenig, Lima; three sisters, Marilyn Wallace, Betty (Ronald) Spyker and Patricia (Robert) Sabo, all of Wapakoneta; a sister-in-law, Sharon Koenig, Wapakoneta; and eight grandchildren.
Deceased are a daughter, Christine Woods; a brother, Leroy Koenig; and a sister, Nancy Koenig.
She was a homemaker and a former employee of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, St. Marys. A 1947 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School, she was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Altar Society, both of St. Marys.
Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. David A. Heinl officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens near Moulton.

Delmer Chivington
Mercer County native Delmer D. Chivington, 62, DeGraff, died at 4:45 a.m. Sept. 29, 2001 at his residence.
He was born April 23, 1939, in Mercer County, to Dale A. and Twila (Long) Chivington. On June 14, 1959, he married Jan Miller who survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, Steve and Mary of Galloway; a son, Doug of Bellefontaine; a daughter, Lisa Price, Lima; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Deceased is a sister, Doralene Larson.
He was employed at Harding Machine for 42 years and farmed for many years. He had served with the Bellefontaine Infantry National Guard and was a member of First United Methodist Church, Bellefontaine, and the Washington Township Zoning Board of Appeals.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Van Horn Funeral Home, Lakeview, the Rev. William Zeller officiating. Burial will be at Huntsville Cemetery.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Luella Crouch
Luella (Shorty) Crouch, 70, 131 First Ave., Coldwater, died at 12:22 p.m. Friday at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
She was born July 26, 1931, in Coldwater, to Phillip and Sophia (Thien) Roth. On June 3, 1949, she married Raymond C. (Bud) Crouch who survives.
Other survivors are a son and his wife, Tim and Cheri of Coldwater; a daughter and her husband, Carla and James Ransom, Raeford, N.C.; a daughter and her fiance, Jackie Weigel and Art Kaiser, Celina; a brother and his wife, Ralph and Ruth Roth, Celina; a daughter-in-law, Lucy Strickler, Coldwater; two sisters-in-law, Laura Roth, Mansfield, and Mae Roth, Dayton; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a daughter, Sandy; a son, Tom; a granddaughter, Nikki; two brothers and two sisters; and a son-in-law, Tony Weigel.
In 1993, she retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., St. Marys, and she was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater, and the Coldwater American Legion Auxiliary.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Mannebach officiating. Burial is at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.

Richard Jones
Richard S. "Zoom" Jones, 83, Spencerville, died at 2:35 p.m. Sept. 29, 2001 at his residence following a brief illness.
He was born June 4, 1918, in Kenton, to Charles and Jennie (Battles) Jones. On Oct. 29, 1938, he married Edith M. Roberts who survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, Michael L. and Linda C. Jones, Kenton; a daughter and her husband, Penny L. and Gregory A. Cummings, Wapakoneta; a brother, Bob Jones, Forest; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Deceased are a daughter, Patricia A. Price; three brothers, Harold, James and Pearl Jones; and a sister, Helena Ridenour.
He retired from Buckeye Pipeline Co., Lima, after 401/2 years. He had formerly worked for McMichael Brothers Trucking, Miller Brothers Construction and LeRoy Weaver Construction. He had owned and trained harness race horses and was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Asian Theatre during World War II. He was a member of Spencerville United Church of Christ, where he was a former member of the church official board. He was a volunteer with the Lima Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for 20 years. He was a life member of Bowersock Brothers Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 6772 and Harry J. Reynolds American Legion Post 191 and a member of the U.S. Trotting Association and the Western Ohio Colt Racing Association.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, the Rev. Ronald L. Shifley officiating. Burial will be at Spencerville Cemetery with military graveside services by the V.F.W. and American Legion.
Calling is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Dolores Rindler
Dolores H. Rindler, 74, 5325 Watkins Road, St. Henry, died at 3:55 a.m. Sept. 30, 2001 at her residence.
She was born Sept. 29, 1927, in Fort Loramie, to Frank and Hedwig (Schulze) Huber. On Oct. 5, 1948, she married Lavern Rindler, who survives.
Other survivors are four sons and their wives, Ralph and Janet, Roger and Kathy, Randy and Barb and Robert and Sandi, all of St. Henry; three daughters and their husbands, Madonna and Frank Woeste, St. Henry, Karen and Don Schoenherr, Coldwater, and Joyce and Ken Hemmelgarn, North Star; three brothers and their wives, Paul and Barb Huber and Frank and Diane Huber, all of North Star, and Louis and Janie Huber, Versailles, and two brothers, Norbert and Herbert, also of North Star; two sisters and their husbands, Ruth and Carl Stammen and Betty and Tony Feltz, all of St. Henry, and four sisters, Eleanor Schoenlein and Rita Stammen, both of Fort Recovery, Mildred Siefring, Coldwater, and Dorothy Barga, North Star; a brother-in-law and his wife, Alfons and Lois Stammen, North Star; a brother-in-law, Vitalis of Coldwater; a sister-in-law, Lorena of St. Henry; and 23 grandchildren.
Deceased are two sons, Joseph and Paul; five brothers-in-law, Eugene, Virgil Schoenlein, Melvin Stammen, Elmer Siefring and Othor Barga; two sisters-in-law, Esther Stammen and Dorothy Huber; and two grandchildren.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, North Star, and St. Ann Ladies Sodality of the parish.

Sr. Helen Marie Siegrist
Mercer County native Sister Helen Marie Siegrist, also known as Sister Mary Urban, 90, died at 4:20 a.m. Sept. 25, 2001 at Karcher Hall, St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Terre Haute, Ind.
She was born Jan. 18, 1911, in Macedon, to John J. and Philomena (Braun) Siegrist.
Surviving are two brothers, Sylvan of Maria Stein, and John of Dayton; two sisters, Verena Mahle, Celina, and Rita Evers, New Weston.
Deceased are two brothers, the Rev. Urban J. and Cletus, and a sister, Catherine Backs.
She entered the congregation of the Sisters of Providence Oct. 2, 1930, professed her first vows Aug. 15, 1933, and made her final vows Jan. 23, 1939. She taught in schools staffed by the Sisters of Providence in Indiana, Illinois, Maryland, California and Florida. She also ministered at St. Joseph in Downers Grove, Ill., for 11 years and at Providence Retirement Home in New Albany for 23 years. She received her bachelor's degree in English from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College and her master's degree in education from Indiana State University.
Funeral Mass was 11 a.m. Sept. 28 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Terre Haute, the Rev. Bernard Head officiating. Burial was at the Sister of Providence Cemetery.
