Eugenia Archer
Eugenia E. "Genie" Archer, 83, Lima, died at 12:30 a.m. Oct. 7, 2001 at Otterbein-Cridersville.
She was born May 21, 1918, in Van Wert County, to Otto and Rubie (Thomas) Severns. On July 5, 1941, she married W. Eugene Archer and he died Sept. 25, 1974.
Surviving are two sons and their wives, Michael E. and Darlene of Lima and Larry L. and Sue of Ottawa; a daughter and her husband, Dorothy Ann and Steve Kiser, Rutherfordton, N.C.; two brothers, Joe and Jim Severns, both of Mendon; a sister-in-law, Jessie Monroe, Bryan; four grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Deceased are two sisters, Ruth Ida Roller and Janice Engle.
She was a retired cashier from Pangles Master Markets. She graduated from Mendon High School and attended Lima Business College. She was a member of Shawnee United Methodist Church, Share Circle of the church, Omega Mi Club, Shawnee Community Club, Spencerville Hobby Club and the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bayliff & Sons Funeral Home, Cridersville. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
Calling is 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Viola Field
Viola C. Field, 77, Rockford, died at 2 p.m. Oct. 4, 2001 at The Laurels of Shane Hill, Rockford, where she had been residing.
She was born Jan. 30, 1924, in Chicago, Ill, to Nels Lundborg and Libby Hulla. In October of 1945, she married Charles Field, who survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Robert of Santa Rosa, Calif.; Michael Field of Atwater, Calif.; David of Sebastopol, Calif.; and Field of Rockford; and three grandchildren.
She was a retail clerk for many years and had lived in the area for the past 17 years.
Memorial services will held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Rockford United Methodist Church with the Rev. George Hubbell Jr. and the Rev. Nan Hubbell officiating.
Memorials made be directed to the church affiliation of the donor.

Robert Lloyd
Robert L. Lloyd, 79, Rockford, died at 6 a.m. Oct. 4, 2001 at The Laurels of Shane Hill, Rockford, where he had been a patient the past week.
He was born Feb. 18, 1922, in Rockford, to John W. and Hazel I. (Schultz) Lloyd. On Sept. 3, 1946, he married Betty Ruth Shindeldecker and she survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, Barry and Linda of Swanton; a daughter and her husband, Barb and Chuck Painter, Celina; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, J. Richard Lloyd, and a sister, Eleanor Lloyd.
He owned and operated Lloyd's Motor Sales and Lloyd Oil Co. in Rockford for more than 40 years. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, serving in World War II. He was a member of Rockford American Legion Post 508, the Highway Patrol Auxiliary and Shanes Lodge 377, Free & Accepted Masons. He was also past chief of the Rockford Fire Department.
Services were 2 p.m. Sunday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford, the Rev. Karen Long officiated Burial was at Riverside Cemetery. Connie Hamrick provided hymns.
Pallbearers to Riverside Cemetery, Rockford, were Kirk Minnich, Ron Keber, Phil Roberts, Doug Gage and Kevin Lloyd. Honorary pallbearers were Kenny Myers, Bill Now, Stan Shellabarger, Mark Rutledge, Carl Swander and Pete Marsee.
Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Marie Wenning
Marie Agnes Wenning, 79, formerly of Township Line Road, Coldwater, died at 6:50 a.m. Saturday [Oct. 6, 2001] at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater.
She was born Jan. 29, 1922, in Coldwater, to Edward and Anna (Knous) Axe. On May 15, 1946, she married Arthur Wenning and he died April 30, 1997.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Gary and Vicki of Salem, Ore.; two daughters and their husbands, Mary Ann and Nick Hemmelgarn and Becky and Randy Myers, all of Coldwater; a brother and his wife, Howard and Wanda Axe, Celina; three brothers-in-law, Lowell Hassan, Coldwater, Gene Niblick, Celina, and George Hanlin, Pennville, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Hilda Axe, Philothea; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, Carl Axe, and five sisters, Ruth Puthoff, Esther Hanlin, Leona Niblick, Pauline Hassan and Roseann Axe.
She had been a bookkeeper at the former Wenning Welding, Coldwater. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Coldwater American Legion Auxiliary.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Ronald Wilker officiating. Burial is at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.
Orville Hollenbacher
Orville W. Hollenbacher, 73, 610 Hilldale Ave., St. Marys, died at 12:35 a.m. Sunday [Oct. 7, 2001] at the Arthur James Cancer Center of the Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus.
He was born Oct. 13, 1927 in Wapakoneta to William and Bertha (Baker) Hollenbacher. On Dec. 8, 1956, he married D'Meria "Tootie" Hudson, who survives.
Other survivors are a son and his wife, William and Lisa, St. Marys; two sisters and their husbands, Alvina and Richard Thomas, Wapakoneta, and Hilda and Edwin Koch Jr., Lakeview; a sister, Naomi Kohler, Wapakoneta; and two grandchildren.
He was retired from the St. Marys Foundry Co. as a dump truck driver. He also had owned Orville's Pure Oil Filling Station in St. Marys. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and Eagles Lodge Aerie #767, both in St. Marys. He also was a member of Brand's Lake Fishing Club in Wapakoneta.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church, the Rev. James Hufer officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens near Moulton.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home in St. Marys.

Margaret Joan Packer
M. Joan "Jo" Packer, 65, 8856 Liberty-Union Road, Van Wert, died at 5:27 a.m. Saturday [Oct. 6, 2001] at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
She was born Aug. 9, 1936 in Van Wert to Russell C. and Margaret L. (Mohler) Wells. On Oct. 20, 1956, she married Richard "Dick" E. Packer, who survives.
Other survivors are two daughters and their husbands, Pamela J. and Kevin Baker, Convoy, Laura K. and Ron Ditto, Van Wert; a daughter, Amy S. of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a son and his wife, James R. and Karen, Stevensville, Mich.; a son, David E. of Van Wert; two brothers and their wives, John and Anne Wells, and Edgar and Becky, all of Van Wert; a sister and her husband, Martha and Bob McCullough of Charlevoix, Mich.; a sister, Mary Wells of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and seven grandchildren.
She was a homemaker. She formerly had served as secretary at Horace Mann School in Van Wert and was also affiliated with Best Auto Sales, Van Wert, along with her husband. She was a member of St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert.
Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Joseph Schmelzer officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetary, Van Wert.
Calling is 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Alspach Funeral Home, Van Wert.

Howard Mills
Howard Lee Mills, 70, 1207 E. 300 N., Portland, Ind., died Oct. 8, 2001 at Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home, Dunkirk, Ind.
He was born June 9, 1931, in Jay County, Ind., to Clessie and Ola (Helm) Mills. On Aug. 17, 1952, he married Bonnie Layman and she survives.
Other survivors are a son and his wife, Daniel and Jane of Indianapolis, Ind.; two daughters and their husbands, Wanda and Michael Ledbetter and Betty and Terry St. Myers, all of Portland; a brother, Rollin Mills, Portland; a sister, Genola Sue Mills, Portland; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
He retired from New Idea in Coldwater after 43 years and served with the U.S. Army in Korea. He was a member of Portland American Legion Post 211.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Baird-Freeman Funeral Home, Portland, with the Rev. Kyle Duncan officiating. Burial will be at Salamonia Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Legion.
Calling is 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Billy Claflin
Billy A. Claflin, 77, 241 Lynn St., St. Marys, died at 3:42 a.m. Oct. 9, 2001 at Lima Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 27, 1924, in St. Marys, to Edward and Mollie (Howell) Claflin. On June 24, 1943, he married Treva Brodbeck and she survives.
Other survivors are a son and his wife, Bill and Bonnie of Muncie, Ind.; a daughter and her husband, Trevalee and Mike Whistler, Union City; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., St. Marys, after 32 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, American Legion Post 323 and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9289, all of St. Marys.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Patricia Minnick officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Moulton.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The veterans organizations will conduct a memorial service there at 7 p.m.
Harold Dunlap
Harold "Pete" Dunlap, 60, 5407 St. Johns Road, Lima, died at 7:40 p.m. Oct. 9, 2001 at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, following a six-month illness.
He was born May 27, 1941, in St. Marys, to Harold and Betty (Goodwin) Dunlap. On Dec. 15, 1972, he married Sandra Matthews and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons and their wives, Harold Jr. and Julie and Ed and Kristi, all of St. Marys; two daughters, Lisa Sears, St. Marys, and Theresa Dunlap, Lima; a stepson, Chris Buell, Wapakoneta; a stepdaughter and her husband, Melissa and Keith Burkholder, Lima; three brothers and their wives, Ron and Helen Dunlap, Celina, and Jim and Sandy Dunlap and Mike and Nancy Dunlap, all of St. Marys; four sisters and their husbands, Kathy and Dennis Ward, Buckland, and Sandy and Dennis Kugler, Anita and Ron Savage and Valerie and Dan Salsbury, all of St. Marys, and a sister, Jane Winters, St. Marys; and nine grandchildren.
Deceased is a daughter, Karissa.
He worked at the former Fisher Cheese Co. in Wapakoneta and later worked 12 years at Agco Industries, Coldwater. He was a member of Northpark Community Church, Lima.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Miller-Long & Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Revs. Bernie Horn and Jim Loughrin officiating. Burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Robert Nuttle
Former Mendon resident Robert "Bob" M. Nuttle, 74, Fort Dodge, Kansas, died Oct. 10, 2001 at Kansas Soldiers Home, Halsey Hall, Fort Dodge.
He was born Dec. 29, 1926, in Arnold, Kansas, to Ernest and Edith (Gidding) Nuttle. On May 26, 1950, he married Doris Nevergall and she died in 1985. On June 17, 1993, he married Faye Nuttle and she survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Dale of Rapid City, S.D., Joe of Mendon, and Casey of Rockford; a daughter, TamaLu Boroff, Mendon; two brothers, Gene Nuttle, Brownell, Kansas, and Bruce Everhart, Ocean Springs, Miss.; two sisters, Maxine Jackson, Mountain View, Mo., and Judy McReynolds, San Antonio, Texas; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Deceased are three brothers, Dudley Nuttle, Wayne Nuttle and Jerry Everhart, and a sister, Marge Depee.
He retired as a meat inspector with the U. S. Department of Agriculture after 24 years. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was a member of Mendon United Methodist Church.
Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Monday at the Mendon church. The body was cremated.
Burkhart Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, Kansas, had charge of arrangements.
