Cletus Huter
Cletus C. Huter, 81, 13164 Luthman Road, Minster, died at 10:20 a.m. Oct. 27, 2002, at Heritage Manor Nursing Center, Minster. He had been ill the past six months.
He was born March 18, 1921, in Piqua, to Charles and Clara (Meiring) Huter. On Feb. 6, 1980, he married Marjeane Shanley and she died Aug. 8, 1999.
Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Anne and Lynn Barker, Springhill, Kansas, and Jane and Bob Ramshaw, Pamona, Kansas; and three grandchildren.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired as a pattern maker at Troy Pattern Works. He attended St. Augustine Catholic Church in Minster and was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1391 and the American Legion, all of Minster, and American Legion Post 184, Piqua. He also was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4874, Piqua.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. Louis Schmit officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with military rites conducted by the Minster American Legion.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9-9:30 a.m. Thursday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.
Emma Leet
Celina native Emma Lou (Davis) Leet, 81, of Dayton, died Oct. 25, 2002, at her residence following a sudden illness.
She was born and raised in Celina. Survivors include a son, Jim Skelton; three daughters, Linda Gross, Ann Vogel and Mary Jo DiPasquale; a sister and her husband, Mary and William Baggs of Celina; a brother and his spouse, John and Chip Davis, Topeka, Kansas; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were husbands, Robert Sollenberger and Charles Leet.
She graduated from Good Samaritan School of Nursing and spent many years working as a registered nurse in Dayton area hospitals and at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Dayton. Burial is planned at a later date at David's Cemetery, Dayton.
Calling will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Newcomer-Farley Funeral Home, Dayton.
Fern Sealscott
Fern Louise Alt Sealscott, 81, of St. Marys, formerly of Chattanooga, died at 9:46 a.m. Oct. 27, 2002, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.
She was born March 29, 1921, in Duck Creek Township near Rockford, to Willam B. and Amber C. (Michael) Oakley. On Feb. 8, 1940, she married Ralph Alt and he died Aug. 16, 1994. In 1997, she married Leo Sealscott and he survives.
Also surviving are a stepson and his wife, Jim and Pat Sealscott, New Bremen, and two stepsons, Ron Sealscott, St. Marys, and Jerry Sealscott, Celina; four grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, four great-grandchildren and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, Gene Alt; two brothers, Robert and Ervin Oakley; and a sister, Eileen Uncapher.
She had worked at the former Barr Store in Celina. Following its closing, she worked the past seven years at Shirley's Sweets in Celina. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Rockford, and the Ladies Aid of the church.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. John Fleming officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford, and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Edmund VanOss
Edmund G. VanOss, 88, 244 S. Hanover St., Minster, died at 1:20 a.m. Oct. 27, 2002, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys. He had been ill the past two years.
He was born Feb. 10, 1914, in Ottoville, to Joseph and Dorothy (Vincke) VanOss. On Feb. 21, 1944, he married Elsie Freytag and she survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, Mark and Jean of Seattle, Wash.; two daughters and their husbands, Gretchen and James Eilerman and Ellen and Paul Zircher, all of Fort Loramie; a sister and her husband, Agnes and Wilbur Miller, Kenton, and a sister, Dottie Hovest, Ottoville; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Three brothers and three sisters are deceased.
He attended St. Joseph College, St. Charles Seminary and DeSales College in Toledo, earning a master's degree from Xavier University, Cincinnati. He served as a staff sergeant with the U.S. Army in the Asian Theatre during World War II.
A former Fort Loramie teacher, he served as a teacher, principal and athletic director in the Minster Local Schools. He helped to establish the Student Council and National Honor Society during his years at Minster. He retired as school superintendent in 1975. He also served as mayor of Minster for eight years and as the village's zoning administrator.
He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1391 and the American Legion, all of Minster; and the Auglaize County School Board. He formerly sang in the church choir for 18 years. He served as past president of the Lake Loramie Improvement Association, a life member of the Minster Civic Association and the association's citizen of the year. He was named Grand Marshal of the Minster Oktoberfest Parade in 1985.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Louis Schmit officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with the Minster Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.

Richard Beltz
Richard Henry Beltz, 90, a resident of Otterbein Retirement Community, St. Marys, formerly of Findlay and Bellefontaine, died at 8:25 a.m. Oct. 18, 2002, in the emergency department at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born May 30, 1912, in Hancock County, to Harry P. and Etta M. (Bowman) Beltz. In June 1938, he married Ruth Ann Logeman and she survives at Otterbein.
Also surviving are a daughter, Linda Schofield, Bellefontaine; a sister, Jeanette Montooth, Springfield, Ill.; two granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Harold and Warren, and two sisters, Laverne Beltz and Janet Lichtle.
A graduate of Findlay High School and Ohio State University, he was the high school's leading scorer in football and played with the OSU Big 10 Championship Team in 1936. He went on to play professional football with the former Cleveland Rams and Pittsburgh Amerks. During World War II, he served in the U. S Navy. He was a teacher and coach at school districts in Paulding, Hillsboro, Mount Sterling and Bellefontaine. He also coached the Otterbein College, OSU and U.S. Navy football teams.
He was a former member of First Lutheran Church, Findlay.
Services are 4 p.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Mark E. Brodbeck officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in Hancock County.

Franklin Clutter
Franklin D. Clutter, 69, of Rockford, died at 3:20 p.m. Oct. 28, 2002, at his residence.
He was born April 10, 1933, in Dublin Township, Rockford, to Samual A. and Lela M. (McClintock) Clutter. On May 31, 1953, he married Lois Elaine Custer and she survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, James and Corrie, and two sons, Nathan and Neil D., all of Rockford; two brothers and their wives, Dale and June of Rockford and Raymond and Evelyn of Celina; two sisters and their husbands, Jane and Roland Baker, Florida, and June and Myron Cashel, Van Wert; a brother-in-law and his wife, Rolland and Carolyn Custer, Urbana; and a grandson.
He retired from Huffy's Manufacturing in Celina after 35 years of service and also was a farmer. He was a member of Olive Branch Church of God, Rockford, GWRRA Chapter U, Celina, and Chapter N, Lima. He was a former adviser for Rockford Thrifty 4-H Club.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford, the Rev. Steve Waterman officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ohio City.
Calling is 3-8 p.m. Wednesday and after 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Dennis Mowery
Dennis P. Mowery, 47, 635 N. Franklin St., Apt. 2, Van Wert, died at 9:45 p.m. Oct. 26, 2002, at Select Specialty Hospital, Columbus, following an extended illness.
He was born Jan. 27, 1955, in Coldwater, to John B.F. Mowery and Lorraine (Fowler) Heiland. His mother survives in Mendon. On May 19, 1990, he married Carol Roberts and she survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Rebecca, at home; a brother and his wife, Thomas and Ersilia of Van Wert, and a brother, Stephen of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister and her husband, Teresa and Joseph Cornett, St. Marys; a stepfather, Norman Heiland, Mendon; and a stepmother, Shirley Mowery, Florida.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert, Deacon Timothy Knepper officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.

Mark Robinson
Mark C. Robinson, 34, 9205 Brandenburg Lane, Lafayette, Ind., the husband of a former Celina woman, died at 3 p.m. Oct. 27, 2002, in a Carroll County, Ind., traffic accident.
He was born Sept. 28, 1968, in Danville, Ind., to Bob and Susie (Perkins) Robinson. They survive in Danville. On July 6, 1996, he married Kristine R. Judt and she survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Kamryn, at home; and a sister and her husband, Amy and John Staab, Plainfield, Ind.
He was a 1987 graduate of Danville High School and a 1992 graduate of Purdue University. He had been employed at Subaru the past eight years. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and the John Purdue Club.
Services are noon Thursday at the church, the Rev. Ron Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette, Ind.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Soller-Baker Funeral Home, Lafayette.

Virginia Stupp
Virginia M. Stupp, 80, a resident of The Gardens at St. Henry, died there at 1:20 p.m. Oct. 28, 2002.
She was born Sept. 3, 1922, in New Weston, to George and Rosa (Stammen) Buehler. On July 18, 1970, she married Robert Stupp and he died June 12, 1989.
Surviving are a brother and his wife, Edward and Marcene Buehler, Fort Recovery; two sisters and their husbands, Mary and Werner Thobe, Maria Stein, and Phyliss and Cyril Evers, St. Henry, and two sisters, Clarina Liette, St. Henry, and Dorothy Raterman, Dayton; and a sister-in-law, Alvina Buehler, Ocala, Fla.
Deceased are two brothers, Clarence and Walter Buehler, and a sister, Evelyn Bruening.
She retired from General Motors in Dayton. She was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church and the Altar Rosary Sodality of the church.

Judy Brinkman
Celina native Judy Carol Brinkman, 57, of Hendersonville, N.C., died Oct. 28, 2002, at Elizabeth House, Flat Rock, N.C.
She was born March 15, 1945, in Celina, to Kenton Khale and Winifred Janet (Morrow) Keister. The mother survives in Celina. Eldon Brinkman, her husband of 40 years, survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, Dan and Terri of Travelers Rest, S.C.; a daughter and her husband, Sue and Matt Gallagher, Fremont, Calif.; three brothers, John, David and Kevin Keister, all of Columbus; and four grandchildren.
She worked as a medical assistant while residing in California for 22 years.
Memorial services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Kirby Memorial Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home, Hendersonville, the Rev. Gus Martschink officiating.
