Bette Meier
Bette J. Meier, 64, 2100 Celina Road, Apt. 63, St. Marys, died following an extended illness at 6:10 a.m. Jan. 3, 2001 at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
She was born Jan. 4, 1936, in Mercer County, to Robert and Helen (Thomas) Nolan.
Survivors are two sons and their wives, Cliff and Michele Gibson, Ormond Beach, Fla., and Kurt and Lori of Sidney, and a son, Paul Gibson, Union City, Tenn.; a brother, Robert Nolan, Mendon; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
She was retired from Hayes-Albion Corp., Spencerville, and was a member of Wayne Street United Methodist Church, St. Marys.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Donald Ricard officiating. Burial is at Mendon Cemetery.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Don Slaven
Don E. Slaven, 46, died of natural causes Dec. 20, 2000 at his Fairborn residence.
He was born Jan. 8, 1954, in Morgan County, Ky., to Carrie (Avanell) Slaven (Ramey), who is deceased.
Survivors are two sons, Jason Davis and Justin Slaven, both of Fairborn; two brothers, Butch Ramey of Arizona, and Rob Ramey of Florida; and two sisters, Cheryl Mefford and Kim Blanton, both of Fairborn.
Deceased is a daughter, Cassandra Marie.
He was employed as an auto mechanic at Tom's Auto Parts in Xenia.
Memorial services are 2 p.m. Monday at Belton Funeral Home, Fairborn, the Rev. Robert Coen officiating. Burial is at Aley Cemetery, Beavercreek.
Joseph Boeke
Word has been received of the death of former Mercer County resident Joseph H. Boeke, 81, of Dayton, on Dec. 29, 2000.
He was married to Viola Gersbacher, who survives.
Other survivors are a son and his wife, Joseph and Judy of Dayton, and a son, Edward of San Francisco, Calif.; five sisters, three brothers and a granddaughter.
Deceased is a brother, Vincent.
He was retired from NCR, Dayton, and was a U.S. veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Society, NCR Retirees Club and the Catholic Order of Foresters St. Michael's Court.
Services were held Tuesday at Westbrock Funeral Home, and burial was at Calvary Cemetery.
Karla Borges
Karla J. Borges, 26, 145 S. Frankfort St., Minster, died at 5 p.m. Jan. 3, 2001 from injuries sustained in an auto accident on Maier-Barber Road.
She was born March 7, 1974, in Greenville, to Carl and Virginia (Frantz) Moorman, both whom survive in Versailles. On Nov. 30, 1996, she married Anthony S. Borges, who survives.
Other survivors are a sister and her husband, Karen and John Berning, Fort Loramie; two brothers and their wives, Ken and Jill Moorman, and Keith and Rhonda Moorman, all of Versailles; a father-in-law, Steven Borges, Minster; two brothers-in-law, Don and Ron, both of Minster; a sister-in-law, Jodi of Minster; grandparents-in-law, Leo and Jeanette Borges, Minster, and Zeno and Julianna Brackman, St. Joe.
Deceased are a mother-in-law, Mary Borges, and grandparents, Clarence and Bertha Moorman, and Bernard and Marie Frantz.
She was a nurses aide at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, and a member of Minster Area Life Squad. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster, and a 2000 graduate of Lima Technical College School of Nursing and a 1992 graduate of Versailles High School.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. William Hoyng officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Sunday and 9-9:30 a.m. Monday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.

Ernest Decker Jr.
Ernest M. Decker Jr., 80, 1140 Knoxville Ave., St. Marys, died at 7:20 a.m. Jan. 4, 2001 at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born June 22, 1920, in Duluth, Minn., to Ernest Sr. and Ethel (Norton) Decker. On Nov. 1, 1966, he married Virginia Holdeman, who survives.
Other survivors are a son and his wife, Jackie Sr. and Ginger Figel, St. Marys; four grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, and received the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon and a bronze battle star. He was a graduate of Flint High School in Michigan.
Private family services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys. Burial with military burial rites conducted by the American Legion Post 323 is at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
There is no visitation.
Henry Dircksen
Henry B. Dircksen, 84, 135 Moore Parkway, Versailles, died at 3:30 a.m. Jan. 4, 2001 at Wayne Hospital, Greenville.
He was born July 22, 1916, to John and Mary (Meyer) Dircksen. On Oct. 27, 1945, he married Marie Hoehne, who died Sept. 2, 1999.
Survivors are four sons, Alfred of Union City, Richard and Robert, both of Versailles, and Edward of Minster; four daughters, Rita Siefring and Ruth Delzeith, both of Burkettsville, Barbara Dircksen, Versailles, and Cathy Shoe, Fletcher; a brother, John of Minster; a sister, Mary Ann Seger, Minster; 30 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two sons, James and Henry Jr. and two brothers, Herman and Albert.
He was a farmer and retired from Copeland Corp., Sidney. He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, both of Versailles.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Leo A. Hoying officiating. Burial is at St. Valbert Cemetery, Versailles.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Friday at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles.

Delphia Linn
Former Celina resident Delphia R. "Red" Linn, 83, died at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 4, 2001 at Chalet Village Health and Rehabitation Center, Berne, Ind., where she was a resident.
He was born Sept. 25, 1917, in Celina, to John and Maria (Klenz) Linn.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are five brothers, Harold, Harry, Raymond, Leo and John, and four sisters, Pearl Winhoven, Mildred Chesser, Betty Arnett and Matilda Griggs.
He was a retired farmer.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Brockman & Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery, the Rev. Verl Ballmer officiating. Burial is at Kessler Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 2-4 p.m. Saturday and after 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
