Electa Flinn
Former Coldwater resident Electa J. Flinn, 78, of Willow Creek Drive, Dayton, died Oct. 26, 2003, at Maria Joseph Center, Dayton.
She was born Nov. 6, 1924, in Celina, to John and Pearl Wale Siney. Her first husband, Robert Boedicker and second husband, Howard Flinn, are both deceased.
Survivors are a daughter, Robin (Scott) Ault of Dayton; and three grandchildren.
She was a retired secretary to the dean at Wright State University-Lake Campus in Celina. A former bookkeeper for the W.O.E.F. Board at the branch campus, she was a member of Phi Beta Psi-Iota Mu Sorority and the Community Picnic Association, both of Coldwater.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater. Burial is at Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina.
There are no calling hours.

George Hanlin Jr.
George E. "Ace" Hanlin Jr., 78, 9105 W. Balbec Road, Pennville, Ind., died at 5:30 a.m. Oct. 26, 2003, at his home.
He was born March 5, 1925, in Jay County, Ind., to George E. Sr. and Edwina Edmondson Hanlin. On Nov. 27, 1946, he married Esther Axe who died July 3, 1999.
Survivors are two sons, Patrick (Sue) of Pennville, and Perry (Jackie) of Bryant, Ind.; an adopted son, Jessie Hinshaw, Pennville; a daughter, Peggy Ann (Steven) Manor, New Castle, Ind.; an adopted daughter, Jenny Schisler, Pennville; a brother, John of Pennville; four sisters, Ellen (Charles) Bulzone, Staten Island, N.Y., Nina Stultz, Montpelier, Ind., Martha Kimmel, Pennville, and Carolyn (Dee) Hoffacker, Liberty Center, Ind.; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews in the Mercer County area.
He was a third-generation operator of Hanlin Well Drilling, and president of Jay County Board of Zoning Appeals. A graduate of Portland High School, he was past president and member of Central Indiana Tractor Puller's Assoc., and Bro Shadow Club. He also was a member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church, Montpelier.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Thursday at Glancy Funeral Home, Walker Chapel, Montpelier, the Rev. Bob Moran officiating. Burial is at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Montpelier.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Wilma Lynch
Wilma Lynch, 75, 958 E. Spring St., St. Marys, died at 10:40 p.m. Oct. 25, 2003, at Valley Nursing Home, St. Marys.
She was born May 17, 1928, in St. Marys, to William and Tessa Vogel Glass. On May 17, 1947, she married James Lynch who died Nov. 3, 1992.
Survivors are two daughters, Elaine (Hanley) Evans and Kathryn (Rocky) Clark, all of St. Marys; a daughter-in-law, Jane Parker Lynch, Naperville, Ill.; two brothers, Roger Glass, St. Marys, and Otto (Mary) Glass, Clearwater, Fla.; six sisters, Dorothy Kattman, New Knoxville; Pauline (Howard) Ogilvy, Norwalk; Juanita Garwick, Troy; Helen Bruns, Lima, Nellie (Ken) Krouse, St. Marys, and Virginia (David) Hegemier; and five grandchildren.
Deceased are two sons, Michael and Johnny; a sister, Mary Hardin; and three grandchildren.
She retired from the dietary department at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, and previously worked at Koch's and Mom and Pop's Restaurant, all of St. Marys. A 1946 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School, she was a lifelong member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Wapakoneta; and V.F.W. and American Legion Auxiliary posts of Spencerville.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Marys, and its altar sodality and the Catholic Ladies of Columbia.
Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. David Heinl officiating. Burial is at Gethsemane Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys.
Alfred Kunk
Alfred J. Kunk, 80, 817 Westwood Drive, Coldwater, died at 5:20 p.m. Oct. 24, 2003, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born April 11, 1923, in Coldwater, to Louis and Paulina Vagedes Kunk. On June 22, 1957, he married Imogene Vogel, who survives in Coldwater.
Other survivors include three sons, Lou (Nadine), Bob (Connie) and Ted (Beck), all of Coldwater; two daughters, Pam of Coldwater and Peg (Steve) Johnson, of Portage, Mich.; a brother, Herman (Ruth) of Coldwater; two sisters, Alma Venys, of Dayton and Edna Rutschilling, of Coldwater; and 13 grandchildren.
Deceased is one sister, Sister Mary Catherine Kunk; and a brother, Donald.
He was retired from New Idea corporation in Coldwater. A member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater, he also was in the men's holy name society of the church, the Knights of Columbus Council 1991 and the Coldwater Veterans of Foreign Wars post 5135.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Thomas Dorn officiating. Burial will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater, where military rites will be conducted.
Calling is from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday and 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.

Thomas McGough
Willshire native Thomas L. McGough, 58, of Licking, Mo., died on Oct. 2, 2003, at his residence.
He was born June 21, 1945, in Mercer County, to Paul and Dora Cookson McGough.
Survivors include a son, Daniel, of California; two daughters, Kimberly, of California, and Erin of Missouri; a sister, Susan Schrock, of Scottsdale, Ariz., and two grandchildren.
He was a farmer and worked part time in carpentry. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a member of the Decatur, Ind., Veterans of Foreign Wars post.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Zion Lutheran Church in Chattanooga. The Rev. Thomas Arheit will officiate. Internment will follow at the church cemetery.
Betty Brandenburg
Betty Brandenburg, 71, 410 S. Main St., Ansonia, died at 11:10 a.m. Oct. 22, 2003, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton.
She was born June 6, 1932, in Connersville, Ind., to Julius and Velma Young Stamm. On March 20, 1948, she married William Brandenburg who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Rick of Ansonia; a daughter, Betty Carol (Ralph) Magoto, Ansonia; a brother, Alvin Kanorr, Wapakoneta; a sister, Rosemary Block Sparks, St. Marys; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Deceased are his stepfather, Kenton Kanorr; four brothers, Alva, Wayne, Roscoe and Walter Leroy Stamm; a sister, Juanita Kupper; and a grandson.
A homemaker, she formerly worked at Crown Equipment in New Bremen and the Lima News. She was a member of Ansonia Christian Church and Ansonia American Legion Auxiliary Post 323.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Randy Brown officiating. Burial will follow at German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Brayden Sands
Brayden Allen Sands, 2-month-old son of Bryan and Jennifer Hirschfeld Sands, 622 W. North St., St. Marys, died Oct. 22, 2003, at Children's Medical Center in Dayton. He had been ill since birth.
He was born Aug. 10, 2003, in Lima.
Surviving with the parents are the grandparents, Wayne and Sally Sands and Richard and Cathy Hirschfeld, all of St. Marys; the great-grandparents, Robert Hirschfeld, St. Marys, William Witt and Adelia (Robert) Arkenberg, all of Dayton; and a great-great-grandmother, Anna Deike, Celina.
Services are 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Miller-Long & Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Herb Berry will officiate. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is after noon Sunday.
Hugo Knapschaefer
Hugo "Hooks" Knapschaefer, 76, 1009 W. Vine St., Coldwater, died at 6:19 p.m. Oct. 22, 2003, at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater.
He was born April 9, 1927, in Coldwater, to Herman and Philomena Steinke Knapschaefer. On Oct. 2, 1948, he married Martha Short who survives.
Also surviving are five sons, Mike (Rita), Jack (Bonnie), Joe (Lynn) and Denis (Marlene), all of Coldwater, and Allen (Darcie) of Kingwood, Texas; a daughter, Marianne (Tom) Kincaid, Coldwater; two brothers, Walter (Gloria) of Dayton and Marvin of Denver, Colo.; his mother-in-law, Marcella Short, Coldwater; 25 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Three brothers, Dorsenes, Sylvester and Harold, are deceased.
He retired from Dayton Power & Light Co. and Midwest Electric as a marketing representative. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, American Legion Post 470, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5135 and Knights of Columbus Council 1991, all of Coldwater. He also was a former CCD teacher.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Ron Wilker officiating. Burial will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater, with military rites by the American Legion and VFW.
Calling is 3-8 p.m. Friday and 9-10 a.m. Saturday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.

A. Alfred Schamp
Former St. Marys resident A. Alfred Schamp, 85, died Oct. 20, 2003, at Fountain View Care Center in Holland, Mich.
He was born Sept. 8,1918, in Auglaize County, to Harry and Minnie Coil Schamp. On Oct. 3, 1942, he married Sarah E. Fisher who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Michael (Dianne) of Cincinnati; a daughter, Elaine (George) Van Regenmorter of Holland; two sisters, Rosemarie Wehmeyer, New Bremen, and Mary Lea Hegemier, Fort Myers, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Schamp, St. Marys; four grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Deceased are three brothers, James, Bus and Kenneth, and a sister, Edna Whitney Rupp.
He retired as an agent with Western & Southern Life Insurance Co. in the Dayton area. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and graduated from St. Marys Memorial High School. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Dayton, and was competitive tennis champion in the Ohio Senior Olympics in 1990-1991.
Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Walnut Grove United Methodist Church near St. Marys, the Rev. Neal Whitney, a nephew, officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.

Allison Sibert
Allison Ruth Sibert, infant daughter of Robert D. and Tara Short Sibert, North Franklin Street, New Bremen, was stillborn at 6:09 a.m. Oct. 21, 2003, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Sidney.
Surviving with the parents are maternal grandparents, Tedd and Judy Short, Minster; paternal grandparents, Robert and Ruby Sibert, Sidney; and great-grandparents, Lenore Otte, Maria Stein, and William and Juanita Sibert, Sidney.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Friday at Graceland Cemetery, Sidney, the Rev. Tom Mannebach officiating.

Howard Wale
Howard J. Wale, 78, 620 N. Sugar St., Celina, died at 8 p.m. Oct. 21, 2003, at Van Wert County Hospital.
He was born March 9, 1925, in Auglaize County, to Herbert E. and Helen J. Asper Wale. On June 8, 1946, he married Betty Marbaugh who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, John (Donna) of St. Marys, Robert and Mark D., both of Celina; a daughter, Lorna (Mark) Niemeyer, Celina; two sisters, Ludell West and Virginia (Marvin) Koeper, all of St. Marys; and two sisters-in-law, Mary and Pauline Wale, both of St. Marys; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Herbert and Harold, and two sisters, Mary Helen Wale and Betty Deininger.
He retired from New Idea in Coldwater in 1988 and served with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Bagley during World War II. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church and the American Legion, both of Celina.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Don Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow at Swamp College Cemetery, Celina.
