Casey Hoelscher
Casey James Hoelscher, 16, 439 Canal St., New Bremen, was killed about 8 p.m. Nov. 16, 2001 in a traffic accident near Minster.
He was born June 17, 1985, in St. Marys, to Rick and Connie (Boerger) Hoelscher. They survive.
Also surviving are a sister, Tina, at home; the paternal grandparents, Nicholas and Marlene Hoelscher, Minster; and the maternal grandparents, Ralph and Eileen Boerger, New Bremen.
He was a sophomore at New Bremen High School, where he was a member of the Cardinal football and track teams. He also played Catholic Youth Organization basketball and summer baseball. He was a member of The Church of the Holy Redeemer, New Bremen, and an employee of McDonald's in Minster.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Gaeke officiating. Burial will be at German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. today at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Ado Langenkamp
Ado F. Langenkamp, 80, 13808 U.S. 127, Rossburg, died at 8:10 a.m. Nov. 17, 2001 at Versailles Health Care Center.
He was born June 15, 1921, in New Weston, to Leo and Justina (Bruggeman) Langenkamp. On Aug. 7, 1946, he married Marie Stammen and she survives.
Also surviving are four sons and their wives, Gary and Valerie of Sidney, Dale and Susie of New Weston, Neal and Beth of Union and Steven and Lisa of Rossburg; three daughters and their husbands, Diane and Dick Thobe, Chickasaw, Darlene and Nick Koesters, St. Henry, and Karen and Jeff Larmore, Celina; a brother and his wife, Ivo and Marion of Greenville; a sister-in-law and her husband, Mary and Ben Holthaus, Anna; 25 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, Albert, and a sister, Lucille.
He was a farmer and a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, the Men's Society of the church and the American Legion, all of North Star. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II and earned several medals including the Purple Heart.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. David Zink officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery with the North Star American Legion conducting military rites.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, St. Henry, and 9-10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Edward Opperman
Edward J. Opperman, 78, 110 E. Bremen St., New Knoxville, died at 12:10 p.m. Nov. 17, 2001 at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
He was born Jan. 28. 1923, in Shelby County, to Herman and Anna (Nolte) Opperman. On June 1, 1947, he married Betty Marie Bracy and she died June 20, 1992.
Surviving are a son and his wife, John and Anne of Cleveland; four brothers and their wives, the Rev. Robert and Jean of Fostoria, Myron and Wavaline of New Knoxville, Marvin and Earline of Florida and Fred and Betty of New Bremen; a sister and her husband, Marjorie and Junior Meyer, Prescott, Wis., and a sister, Dorothy Jung, New Bremen; a sister-in-law, Julia Gable, Bluffton; and a grandson.
Deceased is a brother, the Rev. Vernon Opperman.
He retired from New Knoxville Cement and Tile Co. and later did maintenance work for the village of New Knoxville. He was a member of First United Church of Christ, New Knoxville, where he had served as elder, deacon and trustee. He formerly served as chief of the New Knoxville Fire Department.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. David Hunt officiating. Burial will be at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery, New Knoxville.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Heritage Room of the church.

Jack Siler
Jack R. Siler, 76, 136 Leisure Court, Sidney, died at 5:45 p.m. Nov. 16, 2001 at Riverside Hospital, Columbus.
He was born Nov. 24, 1924, in Celina, to William Arthur and Edna Fern (Fryer) Siler. On Aug. 13, 1948, he married Dorothy Marie Sibert and she died May 19, 1967.
Surviving are two sons, Keith of Dublin and David of Marion, and two grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers and a sister.
He retired as a civil enginer with the Ohio Department of Transportation in 1988 after 37 years of service. He was a graduate of Celina High School and Indiana Technical College, Fort Wayne, and a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II. He was a member of Sidney American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Sidney, the Rev. Kenneth Castor officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Graceland Cemetery, Sidney.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Cromes Funeral Home, Celina. The American Legion will conduct a memorial service there at 7:30 p.m.

Lloyd Deitsch
Lloyd Jennings Deitsch, 89. formerly of St. Marys, died at 8:45 p.m. Nov. 16, 2001 at Rosewood Health Care Center, Independence, Mo.
He was born May 3, 1912, in Macedon, to William and Ethel (Runkel) Deitsch. He first married Ethel McDonald and she died in 1973. He later married Stella Chadwick and she survives.
Also surviving are four sons and their wives, William and LouAnn of Lima, Lloyd Jr. and Bonnie of Great Bend, Kan., Robert and Sharon and Donald and Susan, all of St. Marys; two stepsons and their wives, Gene and Barbara Chadwick, Independence, Mo., and Harold and Patricia Chadwick, Odessa, Mo.; five brothers, Ralph, Gerald and Carl, all of Celina, Forrest of West Bend, Wis., and John of Rockford; four sisters, Mable Denney, Celina, Iva Mung, Jackson, Mich., Velma Goubeau, Mendon, and Dorothy Larie, Springfield; 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was a carpenter and co-owner of the former Boehmer and Deitsch Contracting Co. in St. Marys. He retired as as maintenance supervisor at Resthaven Retirement Community in Independence. He had also served as pastor of the former Reorganized Church of Latter-day Saints in St. Marys.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home Grand Lake St. Marys Chapel, Elder David Scott officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens near Moulton.

Beatrice Schmitt
Beatrice E. Schmitt, 92, 1038 Ohio 119, Fort Recovery, died today [Nov. 20, 2001] in Cincinnati, where she had resided at Bayley Place Retirement Community since February 2000.
She was born Aug. 26, 1909, in Indianapolis, Ind., to Francis and Lucy (Gardner) Lauber. She and Joseph H. Schmitt were married 41 years before his death in 1970.
Surviving are five sons and their wives, Joseph and Kathy of Cleveland, John and Colleen of Sidney, Edward and Barbara of Fennville, Mich., Dennis and Gina of Cambridge, Wis., and David and Vivian of Fort Recovery; three daughters and their husbands, Rosemarie and John Molnar and Virginia and Donald Beckert, all of Cincinnati; and Barbara and Richard Yannelli, Massapequa Park, N.Y., and three daughters, Joann Vormohr, Portland, Ind., Sister Bernadette of Cincinnati and Mary of Dayton; a brother, Carl Lauber, Indianapolis; two sisters, Rose Bihn, Fort Recovery, and Agnes Clouser, Indianapolis; 38 grandchildren and 67 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a son-in-law, Joseph Vormohr; a sister, Mary Murphy; and a brother, Leo Lauber.
She and her husband established and operated Schmitt Fur Farms. Fort Recovery. She was a member of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, the Altar Society of the church and the Daughters of Isabella, all of Fort Recovery.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in St. Marys Cemetery, Fort Recovery.

Annabelle Siler
Annabelle H. Siler, 88, 559 E. Market St., Celina, died today [Nov. 20, 2001] at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
She was born Nov. 12, 1913, in New Bremen, to Emil W. and Laura (Uetrecht) Wellman. On May 9, 1941, she married Robert L. Siler and he died Feb. 9, 1963.
Surviving are a son and his wife, John and Irene of Dayton, and a son, Thomas of Celina; a daughter, Becky of Celina; a brother and his wife, Karl and Norma Jean Wellman of Englewood; a sister and her husband, Laura Lee and Robert Fischer, Celina; a sister-in-law, Betty Wellman, Celina; and three grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Roland and Bill Wellman.
She retired from Celina Public Schools. She graduated from Memorial High School, St. Marys, and attended Grace Missionary Church, Celina.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Friday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Mark Wakeland officiating. Burial will be at North Grove Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Janet Wilkerson
Celina native Janet Louise Wilkerson, 76, died Nov. 18, 2001 in New York City of complications from cancer.
She was born April 19, 1925, in Celina, to Oliver and Winfred Nutt.
Surviving are a brother, Jim, Indianapolis, Ind.; four nieces and two nephews.
Deceased is a brother, John Calvin.
She attended Celina High School and Taylor University and graduated from the Columbia University - Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing (CU-PHSN) in New York. She was an emergency room nursing supervisor at Presbyterian Hospital for many years before retiring in 1994.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Brooklyn, N.Y.

Berlin Miller
Berlin O. "Jack" Miller, 79, 318 E. High St., Mendon, died at 6 p.m. Nov. 19, 2001 at Van Wert County Hospital.
He was born Feb. 9, 1922, in Montezuma, to Berlin and Grace (Schwarck) Miller. On Feb. 4, 1947, he married Ann Mollema and she survives in Mendon.
Also surviving are a son, Nick L. Brown, Pueblo, Colo.; and three daughters, Juanita Miller Brown, Mendon, Linda Mollema Davis, Decatur, Ind., and Nicole L. Brown, Lima; five sisters, Irene Mills, Victorville, Calif., Dorothy Boyer, Ohio City, Twila Miller and Druella Sutter, both of Celina, and Darrah High, Mendon; two grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Deceased are a brother, Emmett Miller, and a sister, Marilyn Miehls.
He owned and operated Miller's Special Equipment in Mendon. He was a Mendon-Union High School graduate and a World War II veteran.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Mendon, the Rev. Glenn Masser officiating. Burial will be at Mendon Cemetery.
