Mildred Wendel
Mildred A. Wendel, 88, formerly of St. Wendelin, died at 4:25 p.m. Nov. 12, 2003, at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater.
She was born Oct. 28, 1915, in St. Henry, to Henry and Walburga Rohrer Beyke. On Nov. 29, 1934, she married Rochus Wendelwho survives.
Also surviving are six sons, Robert (Marilyn) and David (Eileen), all of Fort Recovery, Ronald (Karen), Donald and Ernest (Marilyn), all of St. Wendelin, and William (Marie) of Chickasaw; and seven daughters, Delores (Andy) Schlarman and Marjorie (Nick) Meier, all of St. Rose, Rita Wynk, Carthagena, Rosann (Clete) Prenger, Minster, Kathleen of St. Wendelin, Mary (Dan) Bruns, Chickasaw, and Janet Kuck, New Bremen.
Other survivors include two brothers, Clete (Wilma) Beyke, Cranberry, and Henry (Pat) Beyke, Franklin, Tenn.; two sisters-in-law, Mary Beyke, Burkettsville, and Katie Beyke, Celina; 37 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two sons-in-law, Robert Wynk and Dave Kuck; four brothers, Jake, Albert, Bernard and Lee Beyke; a sister, Mary Goubeaux; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She had worked as a cafeteria cook in the Fort Recovery Schools for 12 years. She was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church and the Altar Sodality, both of St. Wendelin, the Knights of St. John Auxiliary, Maria Stein, and the Catholic Knights of America, St. Joe.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Matthew Jozefiak officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Friday and 9-9:45 a.m. Saturday at Brockman & Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery.
Ann Luebke
Ann M. Luebke, 50, 5158 Ohio 66, New Bremen, died at 4:45 p.m. Nov. 10, 2003, at her sister's home in Maria Stein. She had been ill with cancer the past nine months.
She was born March 29, 1953, in Lima, to Mark and Velma Bertke Wenning. Her father and stepmother, Joan Wenning, reside in St. Henry. On April 1, 1977, she married Daniel Luebke who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Danielle of Los Angeles, Calif., and Andria (Matt) Hudson, Kettering; a stepdaughter, Jaime Thomson; two brothers, Mark (Debbie) Wenning, Hamilton, and Eric (Jenny) Wenning, Kettering; four sisters, Joan (Bill) Ardis, Ada, Mich., Carol Monnier and Susan (Leon) Mertz, all of Minster, and Barb (Dan) Heitkamp, Maria Stein; three stepbrothers, Nick (Connie) Gast and Carl (Terri) Gast, all of St. Henry, and Tim Gast, Celina; and two stepsisters, Patricia (Frank) Albers, St. Henry, and Jane (Ralph) Schwieterman, Coldwater.
A brother-in-law, Dale Monnier, is deceased.
She had been employed in sales at Lee's Printing, New Bremen. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary 1391 and the Minster Alumni Band. She also was a 1971 graduate of Minster High School and a former Girl Scout leader.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Louis Schmit officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-9:30 a.m. Friday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.

Scarlet Barger-Bashe
Scarlet D. Barger-Bashe, 54, 304 Wade St., Spring Valley, died at 4:02 a.m. Nov. 10, 2003, at Hospice of Dayton. Death was due to natural causes.
She was born Nov. 18, 1948, in Greenville, to Marvin and Bernice McGahey Barger who survive in Greenville.
Other survivors are two sons, Alan McSherry, Spring Valley, and Brett McSherry, Kettering; a daughter, Heather McSherry, Spring Valley; a brother, Douglas (Tammy) Barger, Greenville; a sister, Lugene (Steve) Copas, West Manchester; five grandchildren; and several relatives in the Mercer County area.
She was an education director for the Southwest Ohio Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation and directed the Annual Arthritis Telethon for several years. A graduate of Greenville High School, she was a member of S.T.A.R. F.I.S.H. of Dayton.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Brockman & Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery. Burial is at Springhill Cemetery, Fort Recovery.
Calling is noon until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Charlotte Beyer
Former Celina resident Charlotte Beyer, 84, of Westover Retirement Community, Hamilton, died Nov. 7, 2003.
She was born April 9, 1919, in New Haven, Ind., to Bernard and Bernadette Neizer Mack. On Aug. 23, 1940, she married Erwin Beyer who died Oct. 10, 1961.
Other survivors are a daughter, Julia Beyer (Ronald) Liette, Cincinnati; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Deceased is an infant daughter, Caroline.
She and her husband owned and operated the former Celina Roller Rink from 1950-1993, and was a member of St. John the Baptist Church Dry Ridge, Cincinnati.
Funeral Mass is 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Cincinnati church. Burial is at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, New Haven, Ind.
Calling is 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Cincinnati church until the time of Mass, and 11 a.m.- noon Thursday at the church in New Haven.

Walter Braun
Walter A. Braun, 78, South Sixth St., Coldwater, died at 11:45 a.m. Nov. 10, 2003, at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater.
He was born Nov. 2, 1925, in Coldwater, to Frank and Victoria Heyl Braun. On Nov. 6, 1948, he married Evelyn Severt who survives.
Other survivors are seven sons, Bill (Cheryl) and John (Pauline) of Coldwater, Dan (Barbara) of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Tony, Roger (Jessica), Ken (Cindy) and Mike (Jill) of Atlanta, Ga.; four daughters, Mary Kirkman, Columbus, Ann (Don) Wolf, Xenia, Peg Chesser, Las Vegas, Nev., and Sue (Mike) Fennig, Celina; two brothers, Herb (Marlene) of St. Henry, and Ralph of Dayton; a sister, Waneta (Ray) Becker, Fairborn; 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a brother, Werner; a sister, Elsie Hemmelgarn; and a sister-in-law, Virginia.
He retired from the former New Idea plant after 44 years and was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, both of Coldwater. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving during the liberation of the Philipines, and a member of American Legion post 470 and Veterans of Foreign Wars (V.F.W.) post 5135, both of Coldwater.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. Ron Wilker officiating. A military burial conducted by members of the American Legion and V.F.W. is at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.

Russell Ferguson
Russell W. Ferguson, 86, 9442 Erastus-Durbin Road, Rockford, died 3:22 a.m. Nov. 10, 2003, at Colonial Nursing Home, Rockford.
He was born July 21, 1917, in Mercer County, to Walter and Sarah Cordier Ferguson Stoner. On Dec. 1, 1940, he married Ruth Bollenbacher who died May 26, 1997.
Survivors are three daughters, Judy (Ralph) Evans, Ohio City, Anna (William E.) Roberts, Celina, and Jeanne (Paul) Turner, Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Franklin Stoner Jr. and Edwin Stoner, both of Celina; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Riley, Convoy; three grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, four great-grandchildren and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, Lester Ferguson; a sister, Carolyn Sue Vantilburg; and a stepgrandchild.
He was a retired farmer and a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Rockford.

Wilbert Frilling
Wilbert "Webb" Frilling, 82, 217 Dieker Place, St. Marys, died at 3:24 a.m. Nov. 8, 2003, at St. Marys Living Center.
He was born Nov. 30, 1920, in Fort Loramie, to William and Amelia Luthman Frilling. On June 17, 1947, he married Laurena Siefring who survives.
Other survivors are four sons, David (Deb), Thomas (Deborah) and Paul (Kris), all of St. Marys, and Ed (Shelly) of Hilliard; five daughters, Joann (Gary) Liming, St. Marys; Kathy (Lloyd) Schwieterman, St. Sebastian; Mary Lou (Jerry) Bambauer, New Bremen; Debra Schnell, Dublin; and Sharon (Doug) Jeanneret, Circleville; two brothers, Harry (Bernice) of Fort Loramie, and Romie (Millie) of St. Henry; a sister, Eleanor Hess, Coldwater; two sisters-in-law, Barb of Richmond, Ind., and Minnie of Kettering; 25 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are six brothers, Louie, Edwin, Sylvester, Robert, Eugene and James; and two sisters, Henrietta Nerderman and Sally Bertke.
He was retired as former owner of Lakeside Superette, St. Marys, and had worked for Sturgeon Oil Company and as a school bus driver for St. Marys City Schools for 22 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the European and African Middle Eastern Theatres and earned three bronze stars. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars (V.F.W.) post 9289, American Legion post 323 and Fraternal Order of Eagles (F.O.E.) lodge 767, all of St. Marys.
Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Revs. David Heinl and Leo Hoying officiating. A military burial is at Gethsemane Cemetery, St. Marys.

Iona Gehle
Iona "Barb" Gehle, 83, 825 Wilkins Road, Celina, died at 2:05 p.m. Nov. 8, 2003, at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
She was born Feb. 25, 1920, in Bryant, Ind., to Peter and Calastine Wagner Remaklus. On Aug. 16, 1944, she married Victor J. Gehle who died April 30, 1998.
Surviving are five sons, Roger (Linda) of Muskegon, Mich., David (Deb) of South Haven, Miss., John (Carol) of Vandalia, and Dennis (Sue) and Mike (Mary Kay), all of Celina; three daughters, Phyllis (Jack) Beckett, Kettering, Janet (Dale) Alig, New Bremen, and Marilyn (Ned) Roediger, Celina; two sisters, Leora Laux, Arcadia, Ind., and Aletha Johston, Portland, Ind., 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, Austin Remaklus; and an infant daughter, Angela.
She was a retired employee of Celina Wine Store and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina, and its Altar Rosary Sodality.

Richard M. McLaughlin
Portland, Ind., resident Richard "Dick" M. McLaughlin, 72, died Nov. 9, 2003, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.
He was born July 25, 1931, in Portland to Ray and Hattie Hannon McLaughlin. He was raised in the Portland home of his aunt and uncle, the late Ed and Mary McLaughlin. On June 22, 1952, he married Cora May Cheeseman who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Richard L. (Diane) of Lebanon; two daughters, Debra (Jeffrey) Zweber, Alexandria, Va.., and Heather (Scott) Jackson, Celina; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
A grain farmer, he was the owner/operator of Cheeseman Sales and Service in Portland for many years. He was a member of Blaine United Methodist Church, Portland American Legion post 211 and the Odd Fellows Lodge. He served with the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1954.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Gary Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Claycomb Cemetery, west of the church. Full military graveside rites will be performed by the American Legion.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Williamson & Spencer Funeral Home, Portland, and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.

Jerome J. Ruschau
Maria Stein native Jerome J. "Jim" Ruschau, 76, 305 Greenville Road, St. Marys, died at 12:55 a.m. Nov. 9, 2003, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. He had been ill one month.
He was born Jan. 20, 1927, in Maria Stein, to Bernard and Catherine Buehler Ruschau. On May 29, 1954, he married Pauline Mescher who survives.
Other survivors are three sons, Michael (Karen) of Cridersville, Mark (Theresa) of New Bremen, and David (Molly) of Avon; a daughter, Sandra (Tim) Hirschfeld, St. Marys; a brother, Wilfred (Luella) of Dayton; a sister, Mary Catherine Riethman, Minster; two sisters-in-law, Helen of Dayton, and Viona of Tipp City; and nine grandsons.
Deceased are six brothers.
He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., St. Marys, and was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Maria Stein, and its Men's Sodality. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II who served in Japan, he also was a member of the American Legion of Maria Stein.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Kenneth Schroeder officiating. A full military burial will be conducted by members of the American Legion at the church cemetery.
