Leland Young
Leland B. "Lee" Young, 91, formerly of 404 W. Market St., Celina, died at 4:10 a.m. Nov. 3, 2003, at Otterbein Retirement Community, St. Marys.
He was born March 31, 1912, in Van Wert County, to Soloman and Emma Mace Young. On March 25, 1938, he married Ruth Lura Goodnick who died Jan. 9, 2000.
Surviving are a son, Gary (Carol) of Celina; a daughter, Joyce Toler, Celina; a sister-in-law, Leota Young, Van Wert; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, Barry Dee; a brother, Forrest Young; two sisters, Cleo Green and Berdinia Shaw; and a granddaughter.
He retired from Celina Financial Corporation as an insurance inspector. He later was manager of the former A & P Grocery in Celina and a Lima News carrier.
A graduate of Union High School in Van Wert County and Fort Wayne Business College in Fort Wayne, Ind., he was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, a former officer and trustee of the Mercer County Sportsmen's Association and a member of Woodmen of the World. He formerly served as treasurer of the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Celina.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. Paul Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Swamp College Cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina, and after 1 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Contributions can be made to the Otterbein Benevolent Fund.

Adrian Alt
Rockford native Adrian Leon Alt, 82, 1947 Mountain Gap Road, Richburg, S.C., died Nov. 2, 2003, at Springdale Healthcare in Camden, S.C.
He was born April 23, 1921, in Rockford, to Adam and Maude Oliver Alt.
Surviving with his wife, Norma C., are two sons, Daniel Kevin (Patricia) and John Adrian (Rudy), all of Richburg; a daughter, Linda (Jerry) Berne, Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Gloria Hannefeld, Continental; and seven grandchildren.
He was a retired dairy farmer and served as commissioner of the Chester County Soil and Water Conservation District for 21 years. He was a member of Mount Dearborn United Methodist Church, Great Falls, S.C., where he had served as chairman of the board and a Sunday School teacher. A Celina High School graduate, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and received a Purple Heart.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Revs. Sandra Hatchell and Carlisle Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Richburg.
Calling is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home, Great Falls.

Ovada Bollenbacher
Ovada V. Bollenbacher, 90, 425 W. Fayette St., Celina, died at 10:01 a.m. Nov. 2, 2003, at Laurels of Shane Hill, Rockford.
She was born July 25, 1913, in Coldwater, to Charles and Flora Buck Andrew. On Oct. 29, 1937, she married Floyd Bollenbacher who died June 1, 1996.
Surviving are a daughter, Jane (Larry) Ford, Rockford; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, Glen Andrew, and two sisters, Mildred Hamilton and Arvesta Martz.
She retired as a cafeteria worker from the Celina City Schools and was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Celina.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina. Burial will follow at Mercer Memory Gardens.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Clarence Donovan
Clarence E. "Jack" Donovan, 83, 9139 U.S. 127, Celina, died at 11:31 p.m. Nov. 1, 2003, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born July 7, 1920, in Mercer County, to Charles Sr. and Trecia Alexander Donovan. On June 22, 1940, he married Evelyn L. Strabel who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, James (Elaine) of Cecil and Daniel (Janet) of Mendon; five daughters, Patricia (Leon) Reynolds, Brunswick, Carol (Lester) Etzler, Willshire, Kathleen (Robert) Schwartz, Decatur, Ind., Joann (Michael) Valentine, Rockford, and Cindy (Steve) Bronson, Warrenton, Va.; three sisters, Ruth Chaney, Mendon, Marie Howell, Celina, and Mary French, Coldwater; two sisters-in-law, Elsie Heindel, Celina, and Pauline Donovan, St. Marys; 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
Deceased are five brothers, Floyd, Ralph, Charles Jr., Paul and Dale.
He retired as a foreman at New Idea, Coldwater, after 42 years of service and served with the U.S. Army's 110th Mountain Division during World War II. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post, all of Celina, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5135, Coldwater.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Tom Arheit officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Contributions can be made to the church.

Sylvester Dues
Sylvester "Ves" Dues, 83, Philothea Road, Coldwater, died at 3:42 p.m. Nov. 2, 2003, at Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater.
He was born March 5, 1920, in Philothea, to John and Catherine Evers Dues. On Oct. 25, 1944, he married Wilma Lange who survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Henry (Rose) and Sam (Cindy), all of Philothea, Marvin of Rossburg, and Nick of Placitas, N.M.; six daughters, Jane (Tom) Laux, Bernie (Ron) Gross, Lucy (Dave) Rindler and Marie (Don) Weitzel, all of St. Henry, Doris (Lavaughn) Muhlenkamp, Trinity, Ind., and Sandy Grieshop, Celina; 27 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Roman and Clarence; a sister, Mary Dillhoff; and a grandchild.
He was a farmer and a member of St. Marys Catholic Church and the Men's Holy Name Society, both of Philothea, and the Mercer County Farm Bureau.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Dorn officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.

Reva Herbst
Reva A. Herbst, 88, of Wapakoneta, died Nov. 2, 2003, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 13, 1915, in Harrod, to Frank E. and Cecile F. Rambo Tabler. On May 1, 1954, she married Roger K. Herbst who died Nov. 3, 1994.
Surviving are a daughter, Karen (Carl) Jones, Wapakoneta; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Betty Boyer, is deceased.
She was co-owner of Koneta Cleaners.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville, the Rev. Samuel Thomas officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
Calling is 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Lucile Pattison
Yorkshire native Lucile Birt Pattison, 89, of Springfield, died at 2:47 p.m. Oct. 31, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center, Springfield.
She was born Sept. 21, 1914, in Yorkshire, to Vermont and Lura Monroe Bennett. Her husbands, Orvin Ray Birt and John Pattison, are deceased.
Surviving are five sons, Robert Dan (Judy) Birt, Marcellus, Mich., Thomas Neal (Marlene) Birt, Campbellsville, Ky., David Wayne (Vickie) Birt, Ted Orvin Birt and Lee Bernard (Sandra) Birt, all of Springfield; two daughters, Janet Ruth (Al) Foster, Enon, and Nancy Joy (Chris) Booksh, Springfield; a brother, Dwight Bennett, Mendon; two sisters, Marjorie Banks, Yorkshire, and Helen (Larry) Stemm, Springfield; 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
A brother, Glenn Bennett, and a sister, Ruth Birt, are deceased.
She was a member of Maiden Lane Church of God, Springfield.
Private graveside rites will be held at Shook Cemetery near Rossburg. Memorial services are 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Randall Spence officiating.

Jones-Kenney-Zechman Funeral Home, Springfield, has charge of arrangements.

Beulah Boshers
Beulah Mae Boshers, 87, of Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community, St. Marys, died Oct. 31, 2003, at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton.
She was born April 29, 1916, in Athens, Tenn., to Jake and Charity Tennal Franks. On Sept. 24, 1938, she married Ernest Boshers, who preceded her in death on Aug. 19, 1984.
Surviving is a son, William (Gloria) of Cincinnati; a daughter, Wilma (Stephen) Erickson, Dayton; two sisters, Ethel Manard, Xenia, and Frances Deford McClelland, Tellico Plains, Tenn.; and five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a step-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence, Jesse and Archie Franks.
She was known in the professional wrestling field as Bouncin' Beulah Boshers. She gained notoriety in the 1950s as a promoter of professional wrestling on WDTN Channel 2, Dayton.
She retired from the Canteen Corp., Dayton, after 38 years of service as a manager. She was a member of the Reed Springs Baptist Church, Sweetwater, Tenn., and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge.
Services and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 4 at the Sweetwater Valley Memorial Park Chapel in Sweetwater.
Calling begins at 10 a.m. Nov. 4.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys.
Donations may be directed to the church.

Esther Yahl
Esther B. Yahl, 74, formerly of 644 E. South St., St. Marys, died at 1:58 a.m. Oct. 31, 2003, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
She was born Feb. 25, 1929, in Sidney to Henry and Theresa Schneider Behr. On Aug. 28, 1950, she married Jerome J. Yahl, who died May 30, 1989.
Surviving are three daughters, Barbara (Bernard) Poeppelman, McCartyville, Dorothy (Doug) Custenborder, Greenville, and Rita (Michael) Daughtery, St. Marys; three brothers, Clarence Behr, Botkins, Wilbur Behr, Fryburg, and Albert Behr, Los Angeles, Calif.; a sister, Adelma Siefring, Burkettsville; and six grandchildren and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by an infant.
She was a retired employee of Valley Nursing Home, St. Marys, and also had worked at the former Buchanan's Department Store in St. Marys. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and its Altar Sodality.
Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. Leo Hoying officating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys.
Memorials may be directed to the National Parkinson's Foundation.
