Bernard Selhorst
Bernard John Selhorst, 81, 5315 Bayview Drive, Celina, died at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 7, 2002, at his home.
He was born Nov. 9, 1920, in Carthagena, to Ferdinand and Therisa (Hemmelgarn) Selhorst. On Sept. 10, 1949, to Carol Stammen who survives.
Other survivors are seven sons and their wives, Marvin and Ann of Wapakoneta, Steve and Jane and Joseph and Irene, all of North Star, Jerry and Amy Bruggeman, Wellington, Fla., Luke and Carla of Pleasant Hill, Christopher and Deborah of Waynesville, and Martin and Chris of Lake Worth, Fla.; a daughter and her husband, Ann and Ron Fleckenstein, Fort Recovery, and a daughter, Theresa of North Star; a brother and his wife, Hank and Peg Selhorst, Coldwater; two sisters and their husbands, Frances and Bill Klenke, and Clara and Homer Schieltz, all of Coldwater; a sister-in-law, Bertha of Coldwater; 20 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Deceased is a brother, Ludwig, and two sisters, Julianna and Odelia.
He was the former co-owner of North Star Hardware and Implement and a drummer in his own band. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Montezuma, and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1991, American Legion Post 470 and Coldwater Veterans of Foreign Wars post 5135, all of Coldwater.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. James Dugal officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Sunday and 9-10 a.m. Monday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.

Violet Clingman
Former Coldwater resident Violet "Vi" D. Clingman, 76, died Nov. 4, 2002, at McAllen Medical Center, McAllen, Texas.
She was born June 11, 1926, in Jewell, Kan. She married Ross D. Clingman who survives in St. Henry.
Other survivors are two sons and their wives, Vaughn and Diane of Hilliard, and Daryl and Carol of Pataskala; three daughters and their husbands, Linda and Steven Howes, American Forks, Utah; Donna and Dennis Hays, Blacklick; and Patricia and Al Bertke, St. Henry; and a daughter, Cheryl Esterling, Arlington, Texas; two sisters, Nela Rose Flinn, Beloit, Kan., and Genelea Johnson, Albequerque, N.M.; 22 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers.
She was a member of Coldwater United Methodist Church and the Eagles Auxiliary, also of Coldwater, and a former 4-H leader.
A memorial service is 11 a.m. Nov. 16 at the church, the Rev. James R. Sager officiating. A graveside service will be held Tuesday in Jewell, Kan.

Charmie Maffett
Mercer County native Charmie M. Maffett, 90, of Akron, died Nov. 5, 2002, in Akron.
She was born Oct. 8, 1912, in Mercer County, to William and Orel (Burch) Granger. She married Templyn Maffett, who preceded her in death.
Survivors are a son and his wife, Mack and Sue of Ames, Iowa; a daughter and her husband, Rosalie and Carl Bogue of Clinton and six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, Kenneth Granger and a sister, Virginia Cordier, both of Celina.
She was a homemaker and member of Faith Presbyterian Church, Akron.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Dr. Carl Bogue officiating. Burial is at Swamp College Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is one hour prior to services.

Oressa York
Oressa M. York, 70, 638 N. Main St., Celina, died at 6 a.m. Nov. 6, 2002, at a home at 741 Harbor Point Road, Celina.
She was born Sept. 25, 1932, in Celina, to John and Agnes (Hinton) Bailey. On June 26, 1954, she married Dale York who died Nov. 7, 1992.
Survivors are a son and his wife, Scott and Sheree of the U.S. Virgin Islands, and a son, Chris of Celina; a daughter, Tiffany of Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Odette Bailey, Celina; and a grandson.
She worked several years at the former Celina Flower Shop which she co-owned with her husband. She was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the Altrurian Club, both of Celina.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Monday at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Robert Metheny officiating. Burial is at North Grove Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Frances Birkmeyer
Former Coldwater resident Frances Birkmeyer, 91, died at 4:05 a.m. Nov. 5, 2002, at The Gardens at St. Henry.
She was born Oct. 25, 1911, in Coldwater to Bernard and Louisa (Desch) Birkmeyer.
Surviving are several cousins and friends.
Deceased is two brothers, Lawrence and Edward; a sister, Elenora; and a sister-in-law, Anna.
She worked at the former Buckeye Apparel, Coldwater. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, St. Anns Rosary Alter Sodality, St. Cecilia Knights of St. John and Legion of Mary, all of Coldwater.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Ronald Wilker officiating. Burial is at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
Calling is 3-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-10 a.m. Friday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.
Robert Hudson
Robert Hudson, 78, 924 W. Jackson St., St. Marys, died Nov. 1, 2002, in St. Marys.
He was a retired lieutenant colonel with the U.S. Army.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. John Tostrick officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Arlington National Cemetery near Washington, D.C.
Elizabeth Campbell
Former Celina-area resident Elizabeth C. Campbell, 82, of Columbus, died Oct. 30, 2002, at a skilled nursing home in Columbus.
She was born Feb. 26, 1920, near Celina, to Edward H. and Elizabeth (Speiler) Pulskamp. Her husband, Roy J. Campbell, died in 1978.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Brad A. and Debbie of West Jefferson; three daughters and their husbands, E. Ann and Bruce Hall, Germantown, Md., Claudia M. and Richard Barrett, Galena, and Mary K. and James Kirk, Delaware, and a daughter, Paula J. of Locust Valley, N.Y.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A world champion typist in 1939, she achieved a speed of 210 words per minute on a manual Underwood typewriter. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Columbus, and a former CCD teacher.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Church, Columbus, the Rev. Charles Cotton officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Lewis Center.
Calling is 6-8 p.m. today at Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home, Worthington.

Joan Sams
Joan Ellen Sams, 62, 624 Royal Lane, Celina, died at 1:10 p.m. Oct. 31, 2002, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, following an extended illness.
She was born Oct. 11, 1940, in Mercer County, to Emery and Helen (Nelson) Brown. Her mother, Helen Brown Dorsey, survives in Celina. On Nov. 9, 1958, she married Donald Sams and he died Sept. 11, 1987.
Surviving are three sons and their wives, David and Sherry, Hilliard, Donny and Mona and Eric and Teri, all of Celina; a daughter, Kelly Jo of Celina; two brothers, Larry Brown, Van Wert, and Ned Brown, Bloomington, Ind.; a sister, Margaret Sherrill, Celina; and 10 grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, Emery Brown; a sister, Chloe Esmonde; and a stepfather, Dr. William Dorsey.
A 1958 graduate of Celina Sen-ior High School, she formerly worked as a dispatcher at the St. Marys Police Department. She also worked in the control room at Pro-Pet Corp. and was a licensed real estate agent for Master Key Century 21 Realty in Celina.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, the Loyal Order of Moose and the American Legion Auxiliary, all of Celina.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Douglas Meyer officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Gladys Stultz
Mercer County native Gladys M. Stultz, 89, a resident of Alterra Assisted Living Center, Troy, died Oct. 30, 2002, at the Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy.
She was born Jan. 31, 1913, in Mercer County, to Frank and Clara Alice (Ligner) Griggs. On Jan. 13, 1930, she married Lloyd E. Murphy and he died in 1952. On May 7, 1955, she married Fred Stultz and he died in 1985.
Surviving are a son, Richard Eugene Murphy, Tulsa, Okla.; a daughter, Norma J. Gryzbowski, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Joan (Maney) Saxton, Fort Wayne, Ind.; a son-in-law and his wife, Louis and Jeanette Wagner, Piqua; a sister, Esther Martin, Celina; 18 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, Ronald J. Murphy, and a daughter, Carol J. Wagner.
She had resided in Portland and Bryant, Ind., before moving to Troy in 1995. She was a former employee of Hook's Drug Store, Portland, and a homemaker.
Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at the Portland Chapel of Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home, the Rev. John Gibson officiating. Burial will follow at I.O.O.F. Twin Hills Cemetery, Pennville, Ind.
Calling is after noon Saturday at the funeral home.
Robert Hudson
Robert Hudson, 78, 924 W. Jackson St., St. Marys, died at 6:15 a.m. Nov. 1, 2002, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys. Death was due to cancer.
He was born July 21, 1924, in St. Marys, to Elra and Margaret (Cook) Hudson. His first wife, Edith A., is deceased.
Surviving are two sons and their wives, Robert Jr. and Carol of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, and David and Jennifer of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter and her husband, Beverly and Denny Hudson Arnold, Victoria, Texas, and two daughters, Margaret of Ithaca, N.Y., and Emily of Detroit.
Other survivors include three brothers and their wives, Thomas and Carolyn and Richard and Ann, all of St. Marys, and James and AnnaMae of New Bremen; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Hudson, who attained the rank of colonel, earned numerous medals and commendations during his 29-year military career which included service during World War II, the Korean Conflict and two tours in Vietnam.
He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Antioch Temple Shrine.
Private family services are planned. Burial with full military rites will take place at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
