Joan Sams
Joan Ellen Sams, 62, 624 Royal Lane, Celina, died at 1:10 p.m. Oct. 31, 2002, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, following an extended illness.
She was born Oct. 11, 1940, in Mercer County, to Emery and Helen (Nelson) Brown. Her mother, Helen Brown Dorsey, survives in Celina. On Nov. 9, 1958, she married Donald Sams and he died Sept. 11, 1987.
Surviving are three sons and their wives, David and Sherry, Hilliard, Donny and Mona and Eric and Teri, all of Celina; a daughter, Kelly Jo Sessor, Celina; two brothers, Larry Brown, Van Wert, and Ned Brown, Bloomington, Ind.; a sister, Margaret Sherrill, Celina; and 10 grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, Emery Brown; a sister, Chloe Esmonde; and a stepfather, Dr. William Dorsey.
A 1958 graduate of Celina Senior High School, she formerly worked as a dispatcher at the St. Marys Police Department. She also worked in the control room at Pro-Pet Corp. and was a licensed real estate agent for Master Key Century 21 Realty in Celina.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, the Loyal Order of Moose and the American Legion Auxiliary, all of Celina.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Douglas Meyer officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Peggy Kohlhorst
Peggy Kohlhorst, 68, 208 E. Forest St., Celina, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002 at 3:35 p.m. at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
She was born Jan. 11, 1934 in Celina to Frank and Minnie (Greeno) Kohlhorst.
Surviving is a sister-in-law, Anna Lee Kohlhorst, Celina; a nephew and his wife, Andy and Sandy Kohlhorst, St. Marys.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Frank (Jack) Kohlhorst.
She was retired from the office of Reynolds & Reynolds, Celina.
Services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina. The Rev. Steve Howell will officiate and burial will be in North Grove Cemetery, Celina.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 5-8 p.m.
Rev. Harry Adams
The Rev. Harry L. Adams, 91, formerly of Tiffin, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002 at 6:10 a.m. at the Otterbein Retirement Community St. Marys.
He was born June 28, 1911 in Marion, son of Harry and Armida (Clark) Adams. He was first married to Evelyn Snyder, who died Nov. 18, 1995 and was then married to Martha Noble Stafford, who survives in St. Marys.
Also surviving is a son, the Rev. Neldon Adams, Edgerton; a daughter, Marla Fuller, Anderson, S. Carolina; two step-daughters, Nancy Stanford, Newark, Del. and Kay Soloman, West LaFayette; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was his parents and a brother, Marvin Adams.
He was a 1929 graduate of Johnsville High School and retired as pastor of the Washington Street United Methodist Church in Tiffin.
Services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Washington Street United Methodist Church in Tiffin. The Rev. William Sowers will officiate and burial will be in the Shauck Cemetery, near Johnsville.
Visitation is at the church one hour prior to the time of services.
Memorials may be directed to Otterbein Retirement Community, St. Marys Campus.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Miller Brothers Funeral Directors, 1605 Ohio 703 West, St. Marys.
Margaret Schultz
Margaret Louise Schultz, 85, Marion, formerly of St. Marys, died the week of Oct. 20, 2002.
She was born Aug. 18, 1917 in St. Marys to David and Mildred (Kettler) Hainline. She married Elmer Schultz in 1942.
Surviving are four children, Nancy L., Roger A., Michael and David; one granddaughter; and a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Hainline, St. Marys.
She was a graduate of Memorial High School, St. Marys.
Services were held Oct. 22. Cards of sympathy may be sent in care of Roger Schultz, 4967 St. James Road, Waldo, Ohio 43356.
Franklin Clutter
Services for Franklin D. Clutter were held 2 p.m. Oct. 31, 2002 at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford, the Rev. Steve Waterman officiated and Dale Mangen assisted.
Karlene Anderson and Nate Clutter gave readings. Anderson and Vicki Chavarria sang the song "Suppertime."
Mercer County Sheriff's Deputy Matt Grunden escorted a motorcycle procession to Woodlawn Cemetery, Ohio City. Riders included Nate, Neil and Jamie Clutter, Dale Dickman, Dale Miller, Bruce Rickard, Dave Bairley, Ray Settlemier, Doug Sanders and Rick Reis.
Pallbearers were Joe Howell, Barry Peal Sr., Jon Sidenbender, Don Ralston, Charlie Koontz and Gary Powers. Honorary pallbearers were Austin James Clutter, Jack Warthman, Terry Mathewson and Ernie Miller.
Harold Gaerke
Harold J. Gaerke, 83, 4802 S. 850 E., Fort Recovery, died at 8 a.m. Nov. 3, 2002, at his home.
He was born July 3, 1919, in St. Peter, to Henry Sr. and Anna (Fullenkamp) Gaerke. On Jan. 20, 1944, he married Eileen Franck who survives.
Other survivors are a son and his wife, Harold and Patricia, Geneva, Ind., and two sons, Tom of Portland Ind., and Steve of Chicago, Ill.; four daughters and their husbands, Diana and Don Collins, Portland, Ind., Sharon and Don Link, Union City, Ind., Janice and Randy Pitsenbarger, Versailles, and Margie and Jeff Baker, Bristol, Ill., and a daughter, Peggy Starr, Celina; two brothers and their wives, Charles and Betty, and Henry and Janet, all of Fort Recovery; two sisters and their husbands, Virginia and Bob Tangeman, Maria Stein, and Marcella and Dick Topp, Fort Myers, Fla.; three sisters, Lorine Forthofer, Vandalia, Luella Franck, Celina, and Mary Ann Homan, Fort Recovery; 28 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are five brothers, Jerome, Herbert, Leonard, Virgil and Bernard.
He was a farmer and a truck driver and was retired from Fort Recovery Industries. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Fort Recovery.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. Paul Wohlwend officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. Thursday at Brockman & Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery.

Kenneth Hollman
Kenneth W. Hollman, Sr. 88, 308 S. Wayne St., St. Marys, died at 5:17 a.m. Nov. 2, 2002, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, following a sudden illness.
He was born April 10, 1914, in Auglaize County, to Carl and Laura (Williams) Hollman. On Jan. 22, 1943, he married Georgia Travis and she survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, Kenneth W. Jr. and Frances, of Miami, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
A brother, Howard Hollman, is deceased.
He attended St. Marys Memorial High School and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving as a sergeant major in the European Theatre during World War II. He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., St. Marys, following 38 years of service.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, American Legion Post 323 and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 9289, all of St. Marys.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Miller-Long & Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Patricia Minnick officiating. Burial is at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys, with the American Legion and VFW conducting military rites.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The Legion and VFW will conduct a memorial service there at 7 p.m.

Emerson Jutte
Emerson Jutte, infant daughter of Christopher and Kimberli (Gerber) Jutte, 5730 E. 100 N., Bluffton, Ind., was stillborn at 10:17 p.m. Nov. 2, 2002, at Dupont Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.
Surviving are a brother, Reid, and a sister, Maggie, both at home; the grandparents, Sam and Mary Jo Gerber and Tom and Kay Walsh, all of Bluffton, and Walter Jutte, Ossian, Ind.; and the great-grandparents, Mildred Gerber, Bluffton, Molly Timmerman, Rossburg, and Bermeal Walsh, Nashville, Tenn.
Private graveside services are planned at Apostolic Christian Cemetery, with ministers of Apostolic Christian Church officiating.
Goodwin Memorial Chapel, Bluffton, has charge of arrangements.
Lellis Kaup
Celina native and former St. Marys resident Lellis "Lee" Kaup, 46, 5688 North Ocean Shore Blvd., Palm Coast, Fla., was killed Oct. 30 at his residence after being attacked by a neighbor. (See story on Page one.)
He was born July 20, 1956, in Celina, to Sylvester and Mary (Longtin) Kaup. His mother survives in Versailles.
Also surviving are two brothers and their wives, Ronald and Martha of Defiance, and Robert and Sandy of Celina; a sister and her husband, Ann and Phillip Fett, New Carlisle, and a sister, Sheila Coffield, Versailles.
A brother, Stephen, is deceased. He, too, had been a murder victim.
A 1975 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School, he had served in the U.S. Navy and worked at Irish Electric in St. Marys prior to moving to Florida. He also worked in an electrical contracting business there. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Marys.
Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. David Heinl officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, St. Marys.

Marcia Meyer
Marcia J. Meyer, 74, 22 Eastmoor Court, New Bremen, died at 9:45 a.m. Nov. 2, 2002, at her residence.
She was born April 10, 1928, in Van Wert, to Charles Otis and Frances (Gribler) Bricker. On July 3, 1947, she married James Meyer and he survives.
Other survivors include two sons and their wives, Joseph and Patricia and Craig and Sandy, and a son, Steven Andrew, all of New Bremen; and two daughters and their husbands, Deborah and Byron Lunz, Beaverton, Ore., and Laura and Ronald Sylvester, Mexico City, Mexico.
Also surviving are two brothers and their wives, Daniel A. and Beverly Bricker, Chicago, Ill., and Charles O. and Yoko Bricker, San Diego, Calif.; a sister and her husband, Jacquline and James Beery, Decatur, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Virginia Wood, Tupelo, Miss.; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was a member of Only Believe Ministries, Botkins, and taught Sunday school classes for a number of years. She was past president of the former New Bremen Women's Club and a member of the Senior Citizens, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 241 and Woodmen of the World, all of New Bremen.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Alliance Church, New Bremen, the Rev. Dean Greenwood officiating. Burial will follow at German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
Calling will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
