Gerald Deitsch
Gerald C. Deitsch, 86, 1902 Barnsbury Court, Celina, died at 10:10 a.m. Dec. 29, 2001 at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
He was born Nov. 1, 1915, in Rockford, to Henry W. and Ethel R. (Runkel) Deitsch. On Dec. 25, 1935, he married Burnell Colson and she died May 29, 1976. On June 4, 1977, he married Nora Bollenbacher and she survives.
Also surviving are a daughter and her husband, Phyllis and Larry White, Vandalia; two stepsons and their wives, Roger and Linda Bollenbacher, Longmont, Colo., and Rick and Debbie Bollenbacher, Monroe, Ind.; four brothers, Ralph of Greenville, Forest of West Bend, Wis., Carl of Celina and John of Rockford; four sisters, Mabel Denney, Coldwater, Iva Mong, Jackson, Mich., Velva Goubeau, Mendon, and Dorothy Larie, Springfield; 15 stepgrandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Dale and Lloyd, and three sisters, Ruth Young, Mary Colson and Mildred Mentzer.
He retired after 35 years with the U.S. Postal Service in Celina. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II, and a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Chattanooga, and the National, State and County Rural Letter Carriers Association.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. John Moffett officiating. Burial will be at Burdge Cemetery, Montezuma.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Contributions can be made to the church or the Parkinson's Association.

Thomas Delaney
Thomas A. "Ty" Delaney, 79, of Muncie, Ind., died Dec. 28, 2001 at The Waters of Yorktown in Yorktown, Ind.
He was born Dec. 4, 1922, in Harrisburg, Pa., to Thomas E. and Mary (Barton) Delaney. His wife, Christina Delaney, is deceased.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Thomas and Carla of Yorktown, and a son, Larry of Fort Recovery; a daughter, Nancy S. of Yorktown; a brother, James P. of Indiana; two sisters and their husbands, Patricia and John Tankersley and Martha and Marshall Rowlette, and a sister, Barbara Coker, all of Indiana; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, Joseph, and three sisters, Mary and Elizabeth Delaney and Margaret Hardin.
He graduated from Muncie Central High School and attended Indiana University and Indiana Business College. He began a baseball career in 1940 playing for the Richmond Rose and moved to the Boston Bees, an affiliate of the Boston Braves, the following year. With the onset of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and received 11 medals. He returned to Muncie following the war and resumed playing baseball one season for the Muncie Reds, an affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. Included among fellow players were Ed and Wally Post of St. Henry. He later worked at Indiana Bridge, retiring in 1983 and then joined Pinkerton Burns Investigation, where he held the rank of lieutenant.
He was a member of Shawnee Heights Baptist Church, AFL-CIO Local 3124, Muncie Civic Theater, Ball State Shoestring Theater, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Loyal Order of Moose, all of Muncie.
Services are 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Meeks Mortuary Chapel in Muncie, the Rev. James Turner and Larry Delaney officiating. Burial with military rites by the Veterans of Delaware County will be at Tomlinson Cemetery, Muncie.
Calling is 12:30-2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Joseph Grieshop Jr.
Joseph H. Grieshop Jr., 60, Coble Road, Yorkshire, died Dec. 30, 2001 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born March 19, 1941, in Yorkshire, to Joseph B. and Bernadine E. (Borchers) Grieshop. On May 18, 1963, he married Angela Bohman and she survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Daniel of Columbus, Ken of Hilliard and Michael of Yorkshire; a daughter and her husband, Kim and Marv Rindler, St. Henry, Lisa of Columbus and Julie of Troy; four brothers and their wives, Clete and Mary Ann of Minster, Nick and Marilyn and Vernon and Pat, all of Yorkshire, and Tom and Jan of New Bremen; two sisters and their husbands, Margie and Leo Wenning, Yorkshire, and Edna and Clete Lange, St. Henry; and three grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, Kenneth, and a sister, Jeanette Quellhorst.
He was self-employed as a farmer and tool and die maker, founding Patterson Tool Co. at his residence in 1997. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam era. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and American Legion Post 228, both of Osgood.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. David Zink officiating. Burial with military honors will be at the church cemetery.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Gehret Funeral Home, Fort Loramie.
Contributions can be made to Darke/Mercer County Hospice.

Imelda Keller
Imelda R. Keller, 73, a resident of Heritage Manor Nursing Center, Minster, and a former resident of St. Henry, died at 3:58 a.m. Dec. 29, 2001 at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Sidney.
She was born Sept. 13, 1928, in Wendelin, to Clem and Teresa (Rammel) Eckstein. On Oct. 25, 1950, she married Florian Keller and he died Oct. 10, 1990.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Michael and Mary Alice, and a son, Ron, all of Coldwater; a daughter and her husband, Joan and Ronald Market, Botkins; four brothers and their wives, Herman and Millie Eckstein, Urbana, Clarence and Alberta Eckstein, Celina, Gene and Joan Eckstein, Coldwater, and Clem and Eileen Eckstein, Greenville; three sisters and their husbands, Hilda and Clete Niekamp, New Bremen, Irene and Scott Mowen, Lima, and Teresa and Bill Bowersock, Spencerville, and two sisters, Cleopha Brunswick, St. Henry, and Margaret Benanzer, Greenville; and six grandchildren.
Deceased is a brother, Lee Eckstein.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Carthagena, and the Ladies Sodality of the church.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. David Hoying officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, St. Henry.

Werner Loshe
Werner A. Loshe, 82, 1237 Pine Road, Coldwater, died at 6:10 p.m. Dec. 28, 2001 at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater.
He was born June 25, 1919, in St. Anthony, to Henry and Ida (Moeder) Loshe.
Surviving are two brothers, Bernard of St. Anthony, and the Rev. Norbert, Fort Recovery; a sister and her husband, Mildred and August Dues, Philothea, and a sister, Sister Norbertine of Tiffin.
Deceased is a brother, Aloys.
He was a retired farmer and a former registrar of Ayshire, Holstein and Berkshire livestock. He was also a swine and plant breeder. He was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church, the Men's Holy Name Society of the church and the Catholic Order of Foresters, all of St. Anthony; Coldwater Knights of Columbus Council 1991, Legionaires of Christ, Ohio Farm Bureau, Farmers Union, Central Ohio Breeders Association and the Northern Ohio Breeders Association. He was active in local baseball and basketball for a number of years.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Revs. Ken Alt and Norbert Losche officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.
Contributions can be made to Mercer/Darke County Hospice.

Marjorie Samberg
Marjorie Elizabeth Samberg, 90, 4533 Fleetfoot Road, formerly of Celina, died at 9:05 p.m. Dec. 27, 2001 at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater.
She was born June 20, 1911, in St. Henry to Sebastien and Philomena (Benke) Samberg.
She is survived by a sister, Marcella Birkmeyer of Coldwater; two nephews; 11 step nieces and nephews; and 20 great-stepnieces and nephews.
Deceased is a twin sister, Margaret Samberg.
She worked as a secretary/bookkeeper and served in public relations with Father Fred Falce at the former St. Charles Seminary in Carthagena. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, past president of Laywomen's Retreats International, Notre Dame, Ind., an active member of Laywomen's Retreat Center in Maria Stein and a 1929 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School in Celina.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Church with the Revs. Richard Riedel and James Dugal officiating. Burial will follow at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at W. H. Dick and Sons Funeral Home in Celina.
Memorials can be made to IC Education Endowment Fund or the IC Church Restoration Fund.

Clarence Speck
Clarence "Fat" Speck, 75, 222 Stella St., Celina, died at 9:36 a.m. Dec. 30, 2001 at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
He was born Sept. 25, 1926, in St. Henry, to John H. and Elizabeth (Buehler) Speck. On May 2, 1953, he married Dorothy Bauer and she died March 25, 1999.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Don and Terri of Celina; a daughter, Pam Speck, Petersburg, Alaska; three brothers, Elmer of Coldwater, Richard of St. Henry, and John of West Milton; and four sisters, Leona Meyer, Dayton, Marcella Eifert, Fort Recovery, Alvira Kostoff, Dayton, and Esther Wourms, St. Henry.
Deceased is a brother, Raymond.
He worked at the Celina Water Treatment plant for many years and retired as owner/operator of Fat's Stag Bar in Celina. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Loyal Order of Moose, Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Mercer County Sportsmen Association, all of Celina.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Brenberger officiating. Burial will be at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina.
Contributions can be made to the Immaculate Conception Educational Endowment Fund.

Vitus Wendel
Vitus F. Wendel, 73, 8791 E. 600 S., Fort Recovery, died at 11:45 a.m. Dec. 29, 2001 at his residence.
He was born Dec. 19, 1928, in Fort Recovery, to Joseph and Mary Catherine (Voskuhl) Wendel. In 1955, he married Doris Magoteaux and she died in 1978. On June 8, 1984, he married Kate Traxler and she survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, Steve and Janet of Fort Recovery; three daughters and their husbands, Diana and LaMoyne McCoy and Karla and Dewey Osborne, all of Portland, Ind., and Janel and Mike Keller, Berne, Ind., and a daughter, Sheila Katterhenry, Fort Recovery; a stepdaughter and her husband, Vickie and Dave Jutte, Fort Recovery; four brothers and their wives, Arthur and Bernie and Cyrillus and Nancy, all of Fort Recovery, Andrew and Rosemary of Mayfield, Ky., and Leonard and Janice of Saratoga, Ind.; a sister and her husband, Veronica and James Conlin, Hamilton; a brother-in-law, Victor Muhlenkamp, Versailles; a sister-in-law, Judy Wendel, Coldwater; 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Carl and Fritz, and a sister, Agnes Muhlenkamp.
He retired from New Idea, Coldwater, and farming. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, American Legion Post 345 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6515, all of Fort Recovery.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Paul Wohlwend officiating. Burial with military honors will be at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Brockman & Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery. A prayer service is planned there at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Contributions can be made to Mercer/Darke County Hospice.

Hazel Zenz
Hazel Mae Zenz, 76, of Wentz St., Wapakoneta, died Dec. 29, 2001 at her home.
She was born Oct. 5, 1925, in St. Marys to August and Nettie Shaffer.
On Sept. 24. 1945, she married Raymond C. Vining, who died in 1976. On June 2, 1982, she married George L. Zenz, who survives.
Other survivors include two sons and their wives, Raymond D. and Jane of Wapakoneta, and Edward L. and Deb of St. Marys; two daughters and their husbands, Karen and Larry Wicker, St. Marys, and Donna and Roger Spangler, Junction City; a daughter, Joan Gilleo, St. Marys; a stepson and his wife, Ron and Carolyn of Wapakoneta; a stepdaughter, Diane of Wapakoneta; a sister, Mary Axe, St. Marys; 12 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, Jimmy E. ; two brothers, Orley and Fred Shaffer; and two sisters, Goldie Slemmons and Loni Harruff.
She was a homemaker and attended Shekinah Temple, St. Marys.
Services are 11 a.m. today at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, Wapakoneta, the Rev. Judy Ball officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
