Vincent Axe
Vincent E. "Feen" Axe, 80, a resident of Roselawn Manor in Spencerville, died at 4:37 p.m. Jan. 4, 2001 at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
He was born July 12, 1920, in St. Marys, to Joseph A. II and Clara E. (Dieringer) Axe. On July 30, 1960, he married Jennie C. Lauth, who survives.
Other survivors are a sister and her husband, Rose Margaret and Louis Pfeffenberger, St. Marys; two brothers and their wives, Lawrence "Mike" and Anna of St. Marys, and Thomas R. "Dick" and Wilma of Kansas City, Kan.; and a sister-in-law, Annie of Van Wert.
Deceased are five brothers, Cletus L. "Red," James V., Urban G., Joseph Damion "Ding," and Francis J. "Joe."
He was retired from the quality control department at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., St. Marys, worked for the Village of Spencerville, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He volunteered at the Spencerville Grade School and served as Chaplain of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6772, Spencerville, where he was also a member. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society, and American Legion Post 191, both of Spencerville, and Ohio National Guard in St. Marys, 148 Infantry, 3rd Battalion from 1937 to 1940. He was a 1939 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. John Fleck officiating. Burial with military graveside rites is at Spencerville Cemetery.
Calling is 6-8 p.m. Saturday and 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville. A prayer service will be conducted at 7:45 p.m. Sunday.

Virginia Kueterman
Virginia Gariety Kueterman, 73, 306 S. Wayne St., St. Marys, died at 11 p.m. Jan. 4, 2001 at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
She was born March 26, 1927, in Shelby County, to Edward H. and Gladys (Davis) Leach. On July 17, 1945, she married Roy J. Gariety, who is deceased. On Nov. 29, 1969, she married Ralph Kueterman, who died Sept. 20, 1995.
Survivors are two sons, Bruce J. and Brian J. Gariety, both of Sidney; a daughter and her husband, Bonnie and Craig Lamb, St. Marys; two stepsons, Steve Kueterman, Sidney, and David Kueterman of Indiana; three stepdaughters and their husbands, Kathy and Jeff Fair, Diane and Dart Cathcart, all of Anna, and Lori and Steve Zimpher, Sidney; a brother, Charles W. Leach, Sidney; a sister, Georgiann Gregsby of California; seven grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Deceased is a son, four brothers and two sisters.
She was retired as a waitress at Hussey's Restaurant in Port Jefferson.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cromes Funeral Home, Sidney, the Rev. Vince Hoying officiating. Burial is at Shelby Memory Gardens in Sidney.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Edwin Moore
Former Montezuma resident Edwin J. Moore, 83, 307 Victoria Drive, Greenville, died at 11:15 a.m. Jan. 5, 2001 at Wayne Hospital in Greenville.
He was born Oct. 13, 1917, in Darke County, to Clyde and Pearl (Appenzeller) Moore. On April 18, 1937, he married Kathryn E. Stafford, who died Sept. 27, 2000.
Survivors are two daughters and their husbands, Sally S. and Richard Drew, Greenville, and Marsha L. and Philip D. Wysong, Winchester, Ind.; a brother and his wife, Earl and Kathy of Urbana; a sister-in-law, Ruth of Kettering; five grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Deceased is an infant sister, and a brother, John.
He co-owned and operated the Pikeville Grain Company, and was a former foreman at the Union City Body Co., Union City, Ind. He was a member of East Main Street Church of Christ, Greenville, and Lodge 241 F&AM, Celina.
Graveside services are 10 a.m. Monday at Sunset Memory Gardens, Greenville, the Rev. James Morehouse officiating.

Lucile Ruppert
Lucile E. Ruppert, 87, 404 W. Auglaize St., Wapakoneta, died at 5 p.m. Jan. 4, 2001 at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
She was born July 14, 1913, in Wapakoneta, to Frederick W. and Amelia M. (Eisert) Nester. On May 23, 1940, she married Edward B. Ruppert Sr., who died April 19, 1986.
Survivors are a son and his wife, Edward B. Jr. and Sue of Gahanna, and a son, Eric B. of Wapakoneta; a daughter and her husband, Ellen and John Tubridy, Pittsburgh, Pa., and a daughter, Anita M. of Dayton; a sister and her husband, Agnes and William Hines, Troy; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two infant daughters, a daughter-in-law, Linda A., three brothers, James, Thomas and Harold Nester, and two sisters, Norma Tieben and Martha Bauer.
She was a homemaker, a volunteer with the Red Cross Bloodmobile and a former election poll worker in Wapakoneta. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and its former Catholic Ladies of St. Joseph, and K of C Council 1272 Auxiliary, both of Wapakoneta. She was a 1931 graduate of St. Joseph High School, Wapakoneta, where she was formerly active with several organizations.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Revs. William Eilerman and William O'Donnell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Long & Folk Funeral Home, Wapakoneta, with a Christian prayer service at 6 p.m.

Louis Synck
Former Coldwater resident Louis J. Synck, 78, of Amarillo, Texas, died Jan. 3, 2001.
He was born in Mercer County to Henry and Wilhelmine (Oppenheim) Synck. In 1951, he married Barbara Lee Krimm, who died in 1968.
Survivors are two sons, Steven of Lubbock, Texas, and David of Garland, Texas; two daughters, Kathryn Garnett and Deborah Romero, both of Amarillo, Texas; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was a professor of mathematics at Amarillo College, then became a division chairman for mathematics, engineering and biological sciences until his retirement. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Dayton, and a master's degree of science and mathematics from Carnegie Institute of Technology.
Graveside services are 2 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater, the Rev. Ronald Wilker officiating.
Calling is 1-2 p.m. Monday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.

Arthur Ernst
Arthur L. Ernst, 75, 316 E. Elizabeth St., Coldwater, died at 8:41 a.m. Jan. 7, 2001 at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
He was born Jan. 25, 1925, in Landeck, to Henry and Johanna (Baumgarte) Ernst. On June 2, 1951, he married Ruth Fischer, who survives.
Other survivors are a son and his wife, Leon and Becky of Coldwater and a son, Leo, of Coldwater; two daughters and their husbands, Jerri and Nick Schultze, Coldwater, and Marilyn and David Arnold, Celina; three brothers and their wives, Carl and Vera of Grandner, Ill., Francis and Dorothy of Indiana, and Jerry and June of Van Wert; two sisters and their husbands, Coletta and Davy Dray, and Annie and Jerry Saum, all Fort Jennings, and a sister, Eileen Wilcox, Delphos; and four grandchildren.
Deceased is a son, Wayne, and four brothers.
He was retired from the former New Idea, Coldwater and a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater.
Funeral Mass is 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Mannebach officiating. Burial is at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
Calling is 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Michael Heckman
Michael A. Heckman, 42, 09763 Ohio 219, New Knoxville, died in a barn accident near Celina at 10:50 a.m. Jan. 6, 2001.
He was born May 20, 1958, in Lima, to James and Shirley (Hanbe) Heckman. His mother survives in Wapakoneta. On May 22, 1982, he married Angela Miller who survives.
Other survivors are four sons, Adam, Joseph, Andrew and Elliot, all at home; seven daughters, Micah, Bethany, Kerri, Jessica, Kimberly, Lindsay and Jillian, all at home; a brother and his wife, Richard and Laurie of Wapakoneta, and three brothers, James Jr. and Thomas, both of Wapakoneta, and David of Tulsa, Okla.; five sisters and their husbands, Shirley and Bill Davis, Lakeview, Deb and John Nicke, and Nancy and Jon Roy, all of Wapakoneta; Linda and Al Flotte, San Jose, Calif., and Dorothy and Don Duffman, Lima, and a sister, Sandy Hawkins, Lima.
Deceased is his father and a brother, Steven.
He worked at Airstream Corporation, Jackson Center, and was a member of Celina Baptist Temple.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Steve Clayton officiating. Burial is at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery, New Knoxville.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys.
