Clifford Slaven
Clifford Slaven, 70, a resident at the Veterans Administration (VA) Nursing Home in Dayton, died Feb. 19, 2001 at the Dayton VA Hospital.
He was born Jan. 24, 1931, in Hueysville, Ky. to Charlie and Margaret Slaven.
Surviving is a daughter, Pamela White, Otway; a brother and his wife, Homer and Loretta Slaven, Beavercreek; a sister and her husband, Tawanna and Allen Harruff, Celina; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two infant children, a sister and three brothers.
He was a former Celina and Fairborn resident and member of the Nazarene Church of Fairborn.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Belton Funeral Home in Fairborn. Burial is at Byron Cemetery, Fairborn.
Calling is 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Gretchen Kolp
Former Portland, Ind., resident Gretchen Lois Kolp, 85, died Feb. 21, 2001 at Mount Carmel Hospital in Columbus.
She was born July 31, 1915, in Mount Healthy, to Lindsay and Gertrude (Brach) Smythe. On July 24, 1938, she married Alvin A. "June" Kolp, who died Aug. 5, 1987.
Survivors are a son, Alvin of Westerville; a daughter and her husband, Harriet and Allan Eakins, Grove City; a sister, Jane Scott, Wheaton, Ill.; six grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
She was retired as a school teacher, who taught in the Fort Recovery school system. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Portland, Ind., Jay County, Ind., Hospital Auxiliary, Retired Teachers Association, and Eastern Star, Fort Recovery.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Baird-Freeman Funeral Home, Portland, Ind., the Rev. Scott Solether officiating. Burial is at Spring Hill Cemetery, Fort Recovery.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Isabelle Eversman
Former New Knoxville resident Isabelle H. Eversman, 92, died at 3:35 p.m. Feb. 17, 2001 at Manor Care Nursing Home in Lebanon, Pa.
She was born Jan. 26, 1909, in Lebanon, Pa., to William and Elizabeth (Pheaner) Jagnow. On March 27, 1932, she married Oliver Eversman, who is deceased.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
She was a member of First United Church of Christ, New Knoxville.
Private graveside services were held at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery, New Knoxville.

Margueritte Jump
Margueritte Jump, 86, 1017 Edwards St., St. Marys, died at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 21, 2001 at Select Specialty Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.
She was born Jan. 29, 1915, in Tiffin, to Leroy and Eda (Nevius) Yeager. On Oct. 8, 1941, she married Everett Jump, who survives.
Other survivors are two daughters and their husbands, Linda and Larry Wahrer, Jackson Center, and Jenny and Bill Grobey, Muncie, Ind.; two sons and their wives, Jim and Leesa of Naperville, Ill., and David and Eileen of Columbus; a brother, Dick Yeager, Tiffin; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a sister, Dorothy Mosier.
She was a former employee of Pure Milk and Dairy Co., Tiffin, and a member of Wayne Street United Methodist Church, St. Marys. She was a 1932 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at the church, the Revs. David Woodyard and Marion Hanover officiating. Burial is at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys.

Cyril Schwieterman
Cyril S. Schwieterman, 75, 5711 Reier Road, St. Henry, died at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 21, 2001 at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
He was born July 9, 1925, in St. Sebastian, to Edward and Eleonora (Kramer) Schwieterman. On May 14, 1949, he married Merdella Borger, who survives.
Other survivors are four sons and their wives, Mike and Linda of Arcanum, Jerry and Marcia of Troy, Dave and Carol of New Knoxville, and Bob and Carol of Springboro; six daughters and their husbands, Joyce and Ken Gerlach, St. Henry, Sheri and Mike Roddy, West Carrollton, Barb and Larry Abels, Englewood, Sandy and Jeff Bruns, Germantown, Cindy and Vincent Wu, Milford, and Mary Beth and Doug Zimmer, Troy; a daughter, Jane Moran, Columbus; a sister and her husband, Helen and Cletus Schmitz, Dayton; two sisters, Cordula "Lefty" Schmitz and Rita Wannemacher, both of Coldwater; a brother and his wife, Ivo and Mary Ann of Burkettsville; a sister-in-law, Coletta Schwieterman, Coldwater; and 31 grandchildren.
Deceased are a daughter and her husband, Connie and Ken Post, a son-in-law, Greg Moran, a sister, Alvera, and three brothers, Arnold, Louis and Matt.
He was owner and operator of Cy Schwieterman Inc., St. Henry, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He served as past president of Land Improvement Contractors of America, and served on the Ohio Reclamation Review Board under Gov. James Rhodes. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and its Men's Society, Cranberry Prairie, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, both of St. Henry, St. Henry Kiwanis, Overholt Drainage Foundation, and American Society of Agriculture Engineers.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Henry Catholic Church, the Revs. Marvin Borger and David Hoying officiating. Burial with full military rites will follow in the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-9 p.m. today and 9-10 a.m. Saturday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, St. Henry.

Richard Stephens
Richard Alan "Al" Stephens, 36, 327 Godfrey Ave., Celina, died Feb. 22, 2001 at the scene of an auto accident at the intersection of Tama and Erastus Durbin roads.
He was born Jan. 17, 1965, in Celina, to Paul Richard and Paulette (Lovelace) Stephens. His mother and stepfather, Ron Ottomeier, survive in Rockford. On March 15, 1993, he married Joyce Roberts, who survives.
Other survivors include two brothers and their wives, Scott and Joan, and Sean and Conita, all of Celina; a stepsister, Christina Ottomeier, Rockford; and a grandmother, Jettie Lovelace, Celina.
He was co-owner of A & S Salvage, Celina, and a 1983 graduate of Celina Senior High School.
Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at New Life Apostolic Church, Celina, the Rev. Larry Fries officiating. Burial is at Swamp College Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Saturday at W.H.Dick and Sons Funeral Home in Celina and one hour prior to services Sunday at the church.
Louise Francis
Louise K. Francis, 88, a resident at Versailles Health Care Center, died at 11:41 a.m. Feb. 23, 2001 at Wayne Hospital in Greenville.
She was born Sept. 19, 1912, in Fort Loramie to Clemens and Emma (Seger) Bender. On Feb. 3, 1940, she married Charles L. Francis, who survives.
Other survivors include a son and his wife, Arthur and Debbi of Frenchtown; a son-in-law, Paul Grieshop of Piqua; five daughters and their husbands, Emma and Earl Dicke of New Bremen, Charlotte and James Rank of Huntingtown, Md., Becky and Larry Bruggeman of Maria Stein, Ida and Henry Spangler of Sidney and Victoria and Edward Freisthler of Sidney; a daughter, Henrietta Spaugy of Troy; a brother and his wife, Julius and Lois Bender of Minster; four sisters-in-law, Clara Bender and Melba Bender, both of Sidney, Ruth Bender, Fort Loramie, and Irene Bender, St. Henry; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Alvina and Clarence Cordonnier, Russia, Christine and Don McDonald, Celina, and Pauline and Melvin Schmiesing, Minster; a sister, Anne Marie Burnaby of Goetzville, Mich.; 27 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a daughter, Barbara Grieshop; six brothers, Aloysius, Albert, Martin, Victor, Lawrence and Edward Bender; and a grandson.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles and Daughters of Isabella.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Leo A. Hoying officiating. Burial will follow at St. Valbert's Cemetery in Versailles.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles.
