Cindy Dunlap
Former Mendon resident Cindy D. Dunlap, 55, 115 S. Harrison St., Van Wert, died at 9:19 a.m. Feb. 24, 2002 at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind. She had been seriously ill eight days.
She was born Oct. 30, 1946, in Mercer County, to Lavon and Louise (Price) Boroff. On Aug. 9, 1969, she married Jan R. Dunlap and he survives.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, Tim and Jennifer of Convoy, and a son, Thomas of Delaware; a brother and his wife, Kevin and Lisa Boroff, Fort Recovery; a sister and her husband, Joan and Gary Snider, Celina, and a sister, Marg Trisel, Mendon.
She worked in the accounts receivable department at Central Mutual Insurance Co., Van Wert, where she had been employed for 35 years. A 1964 graduate of the former Mendon Union High School, she had helped with the Van Wert County Heart Association Fund Drive.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Rev. Nell Hammons officiating. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Clifford Hoffman
Clifford H. Hoffman, 92, 14867 Dull-Robinson Road, Ohio City, died at 1 p.m. Feb. 23, 2002 at VanCrest Health Care Center, Van Wert.
He was born July 10, 1909, in Van Wert County, to Henry William and Jessie Almina (Bolenbaugh) Hoffman. On May 12, 1935, he married Sarah S. Hey and she survives.
Also surviving are four sons and their wives, John H. and Dora and Joe L. and Cheryl, all of Ohio City, Jerry D. and Joyce of Van Wert, and Jim A. and Jill of West Liberty; two daughters and their husbands, Eulalia and John Carlton, Van Wert, and Mary K. and Bill Fallis, Ohio City; two brothers, Clarence of Ohio City and Gaylord of Celina; a sister and her husband, Gladys and Carl Agler, Ohio City, and a sister, Mary Keith, Van Wert; 19 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Wayne and Harold A.; a grandson and a great-grandson.
He was a longtime farmer in Liberty Township and also worked at the Ohio City-Liberty School. It was during the course of the latter employment that he achieved the goal of receiving his GED at the age of 66. He also worked at Borden's Cheese Factory, Van Wert High School and as a licensed stationary engineer at Sharp Canning Co., Ohio City, Central Soya, Delphos, and the Marsh Foundation, Van Wert.
He was a member of the former Bethel Evangelical United Brethren Church and then the Ohio City United Methodist Church. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a lifelong member of Harvey Lewis American Legion Post 346 and a charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, Van Wert. He was active in the Democratic party in Van Wert County.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Revs. Paul W. Miller and Mike Waldron officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ohio City, with military services by the American Legion.
Calling is 2-9 p.m. today and after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Thomas Kelley
Thomas E. Kelley, 37, Glynwood Road, Wapakoneta, died at 2:45 a.m. Feb. 23, 2002 of injuries sustained in a traffic accident near Wapakoneta.
He was born May 19, 1964, in Lima, to Michael and Patricia Ann (Klosterman) Kelley. They survive in Wapakoneta.
Also surviving are two sons, Luke and Josh of Wapakoneta; a brother, Ryan of Wapakoneta; and the maternal grandparents, James and Rosemary Klosterman, also of Wapakoneta.
He worked in sales and installation at the Lima Floor Covering Center. A 1982 graduate of Wapakoneta High School, he was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 691 and Sons of the American Legion Post 330, all of Wapakoneta. He also was an associate member of AmVets and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8445, Wapakoneta.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. William Eilerman officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, Wapakoneta. A prayer service is planned there at 8 p.m. today.
Leona Laut
Leona M. Laut, 93, formerly of 115 S. Franklin St., New Bremen, died at 3 a.m. Feb. 24, 2002 at Heritage Manor Nursing Center, Minster, where she had resided since August 1992.
She was born July 13, 1908, in Anna, to Louis and Margaret (McCullough) Nolte. On July 14, 1932, she married Melville Laut and he died July 16, 1982.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews including Louis and Jeanette Nolte, Botkins.
Deceased are two brothers, Melvin and Clarence Nolte; a sister, Waneta Wrigley; two half brothers, Edward and Fred Nolte; and a half sister, Clara Nolte.
A 1925 graduate of Anna High School, she received nurse's training at St. Rita's School of Nursing, Lima. She worked as a private home nurse until she married and assisted her husband in operating the family jewelry store in New Bremen. She also was employed by the Village of New Bremen, receiving utility payments at the jewelry store. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, New Bremen.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, the Rev. John W. Tostrick officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens, St. Marys.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Contributions can be made to the church memorial fund or Hospice of Darke/Mercer Counties.
Ethel Myers
Ethel F. Myers, 90, of Wapakoneta, died at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 23, 2002 at Auglaize Acres, Wapakoneta.
She was born Nov. 20, 1911, in Hancock County, to Melvil and Katie (Hauman) Bibler. On June 11, 1933, she married George S. Myers and he died June 13, 1977.
Surviving are a daughter and her husband, Mary Ann and Dale Thomas, Wapakoneta; two granddaughters, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are four brothers, Stanley, Roy, John and Howard Bibler; an infant brother, a sister, Fay Powell; and an infant sister.
She was a homemaker and a former cafeteria worker in the Wapakoneta City Schools, retiring in 1975. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church, Wapakoneta, and a 50-year plus member of Ida Rebekah Lodge 391, Spencerville. She was a former member of St. Johns Garden Club, the Extension Club and the Wapakoneta Senior Citizens.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Steven L. Nelson officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, Wapakoneta. Rebekah Lodge will hold a memorial service there at 8 p.m.
Contributions can be made to the activity fund at The Gardens or St. Rita's Hospice.
Karen Sestan
Former Celina resident Karen Sue Sestan, 55, of Hammond, Ind., died Feb. 23, 2002 at her residence. Death was due to natural causes.
She was born Jan. 26, 1947, in Celina, to Gerald and Ruth Birt.
Surviving with her husband, Josip Sestan, are a daughter and her husband, Melissa and Leo Melendez, and a daughter, Melinda, all of Hammond; a sister and her husband, Barbara and Bud Solomon, Phoenix, Ariz., and a sister, Shirley Kokocki, Olathe, Kansas; and a granddaughter.
Deceased is a brother-in-law, Larry Kokocki.
A resident of Celina until 1982, she had worked at WKKI Radio and Rice University.
Services are 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Anthony & Dziadowicz Funeral Home, Hammond, with a funeral Mass to follow at 10 a.m. at St. Casimir Catholic Church, Hammond. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, Ill.
Calling is 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Devin Wendel
Devin J. Wendel, infant son of Dan and Theresa (Hein) Wendel, 2837 Wabash Road, Fort Recovery, was stillborn Feb. 22, 2002 at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
Surviving with the parents are a brother, Nathan, and a sister, Katlin, both at home; the paternal grandparents, Alvin and Martha Wendel, Fort Recovery; and the maternal grandparents, Mark and Irene Hein, Coldwater.
A prayer service was to be held at 2 p.m. today at St. Peter Catholic Church, the Rev. Ken Alt officiating. Burial was to follow at the church cemetery.
