Fred Hope
Fred C. Hope, 60, 09475 Lake-shore Drive West, Huntsville, died at 10:16 a.m. Feb. 16, 2003, at Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus. Death was due to natural causes.
He was born Jan. 7, 1943, in Ridgeville Corners, to Sidney and Dorothy Davis Hope. On June 22, 1985, he married Sharon Slusser Kintsle who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Fred C. Hope III, Columbus, David (Tonya) Hope, Austin, Texas, and Michael (Chris) Kintsle, New Knoxville; two daughters, Elizabeth (John) Livingston, Marysville, and Deb (David) Kelley, Westerville; a brother, Leslie (Sandra) of Dublin; three sisters, Dorothy (Bill) Parker, Bryan, Avis (Bill) Truska, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Margo (Dave) Garver, Bellville; and five grandchildren.
The list of survivors also includes an uncle, comedian Bob (Delores) Hope, Hollywood, Calif.
He attended Ohio State University and served in the U.S. Army. A professional jet pilot for The Columbus Dispatch and WBNS Radio in Columbus, he formerly served as a pilot for Minster Machine Co.
He was a member of the Professional Pilots Association of America and AmVets Post 39, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3625, Loyal Order of Moose #1533 and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, all of the Indian Lake area.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, Wapakoneta, the Rev. G. Richard Bell officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, Wapakoneta.

LaVern Kunk
LaVern R. Kunk, 65, 4158 Fleetfoot Road, Coldwater, died at 11:20 p.m. Feb. 15, 2003, at Akron General Medical Center following a sudden illness.
He was born Feb. 28, 1937, in Coldwater, to Bernard and Matilda Wappelhorst Kunk. On Oct. 3, 1959, he married Rita Mae Geier who died Dec. 4, 1992.
Surviving are a son, Michael (Francesca) of Nacogdoches, Texas; three daughters, Theresa (Jerry) Jutte, St. Henry, Cheryl (Michael) Albers, Fort Mill, S.C., and Kim (Mark) Koenig, Fort Recovery; and 11 grandchildren.
Other survivors include two brothers, Norbert (Martha) of Coldwater, Mich., and David (Jane) of Celina; a sister, Doris (Keith) Byer, Fort Wayne, Ind.; two brothers-in-law, Robert Post, Celina, and Larry (Kathy) Geier, Bath; and four sisters-in-law, Lou Ann Wendel and Esther (Tom) Gray, Celina, Jean (Rich) Schroer and Mary Geier, Coldwater.
Deceased are a daughter, Kirsten; two sisters, Lucille Post and Eileen Baumer, and four brothers-in-law, Bob Baumer, Tom Frysinger, Joe Wendel and Louis Geier.
In 1998, he retired as an engineer from New Idea, Coldwater, after 43 years of service. He currently worked part time at Pax Machine, Celina. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3025, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5135 and Knights of Columbus Council 1991, all of Coldwater, the Celina Moose Lodge and the Butler Township Zoning Board.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Mannebach officiating. Burial will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Hogen-kamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.
Iris Putman
Iris Naomi Putman, 84, of Rockford, died at 3:35 a.m. today, Feb. 18, 2003, at the Laurels of Shane Hill, Rockford, where she had resided since October 2000.
She was born Oct. 15, 1918, near Chattanooga, to Curtis and Marguerite Heffner Roebuck. On Dec. 20, 1952, she married Eugene Louis Putman who survives.
Also surviving are two brothers, Paul (Nancy) Roebuck of Dayton, Nev., and Jerome Roebuck of Chula Vista, Calif.; two sisters, Bonnie Kolter, Dayton, Nev., and Mary (James) Read, Corveta Okla.; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Roebuck, Celina.
Deceased are three brothers, Billy, Tommy and James Roebuck.
She was a member of Rockford United Methodist Church.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford, the Rev. Mike Berne officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Thursday and after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Vitus Siegrist
Vitus A. Siegrist, 84, 8297 Ohio 119, Maria Stein, died at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 16, 2003, at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater.
He was born Jan. 11, 1919, in St. Anthony, to Joseph and Catherine Wendel Siegrist. On April 28, 1945, he married Dorothy Hausfeld who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Mike (Kathy) of Maria Stein; two daughters, Judy (John) Jernigan, Chickasha, Okla., and Lois of Minster; a son-in-law, Rick Sells, Dayton; three sisters, Ann Marx, Crystal Lakes, Ill., Philomena Liller, Dayton, and Martha Pierce, Vandalia; a sister-in-law, Rita Siegrist, Celina; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Six brothers and two sisters are deceased.
A 1937 graduate of Coldwater High School, he retired from Chickasaw Machine & Tool Inc. and Maria Stein Grain Co. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Men's Sodality, Maria Stein.

Martha Wirkner
Martha T. Wirkner, 90, 2394 Ohio-Indiana State Line Road, Fort Recovery, died Feb. 16, 2003, at her residence.
She was born March 23, 1912, in Burkettsville, to Frank and Bernadine Wourms Sutter. On June 29, 1935, she married Urban Wirkner who died March 6, 1991.
Surviving are a son, Bernard (Carla) of North Canton; three daughters, Carolyn (Donald) Warren, Union City, Sarah Pensabene, Port Lavaca, Texas, and Susanne (Ronald) Campbell, Union City, Ind.; three sisters, Mary Kemper, Dayton, Delores Speck and Marcella Stahl, St. Henry; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Six brothers and two sisters are deceased.
She was a member of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church and the Altar Sodality, Fort Recovery.

John Zumberger
John L. Zumberger, 71, 12345 Meranda Road, Anna, died at 6:09 p.m. Feb. 16, 2003, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Sidney, following a sudden illness.
He was born April 9, 1931, in Fort Loramie, to John and Anna (Berning) Zumberger. On April 16, 1955, he married Eulalia Siefring who survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Dale (Amy) of Anna, Neil (Barb) of Sidney, Mark (Deb) of DeGraff, and Henry (Karen) of Botkins; five daughters, Joy (Ken) Clickenger, Cleveland, Ann (Ron) Steinbrunner, Sidney, Joan (Rob) Nelson, Pawnee, Ill., Jan (Jim) Garner, Tecumseh, Mich., and Amy (Mark) Landis, Anna; and 24 grandchildren.
Other survivors include four brothers, Joe of Portland, Ind., Leonard of Sidney, Albert (Wilma) of Fort Loramie, and Urban (Marlene) of Versailles; and two sisters, Irene Beatty, Xenia, and Doris of Sidney.
A brother, Leo, and a sister, Rose Stockstill, are deceased.
A lifelong farmer, he retired in 1996 from Stolle Corp., Sidney, where he had worked as a polisher for 45 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, McCartyville, where he had been a Mass server, lay distributor and a member of the church council and financial committee. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Pat Welsh officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Jane Burger
Jane F. Burger, 83, 7353 Ohio 219, Celina, died Feb. 13, 2003, at Livingston Care Center, Dayton.
She was born March 19, 1919, in Cincinnati, to Frank B. and Marie Hilbers Burger.
Surviving are three brothers, Frank and Ralph of Dayton and Richard (Dorothy) of Kettering; and a sister, Carol E. Smith, Centerville.
She retired from State Mutual Insurance, Dayton, and formerly worked at New England Life Insurance and Thompson Supply, Piqua.
She was a life member of Coldwater American Legion Post 470 and a member of Mercer County 8 & 40 Salon 828, Southshore Sportsmen club, Lake Improvement Association, Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, Women of the Moose Chapter 388 and Celina Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary 1291.
Memorial Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Montezuma, the Rev. James Dugal officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
Keeping her wish the body was donated to medical science.
