Dr. Joseph Kapp
Dr. Joseph R. Kapp, 74, 107 Bayview Drive, Celina, died at 11:40 p.m. March 5, 2001 at his residence.
He was born April 3, 1926, in Stratton, to Michael and Mary (Sotak) Czap. On July 12, 1983, he married Victoria Fortman, who survives.
Other survivors are two daughters and their husbands, Jodi and Mike Burgess, Sacramento, Calif., and Jeri Sue and Gerard Manning, Milford, Mich.; a son and his wife, Josh and Carol of Pehlam, N.Y.; two stepsons, Scott Dues, Gulfport, Miss., and Patrick Dues, Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Eleanor Wilkeson, Scott; and 10 grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, William and John Czap.
He was a retired physician, and had worked in the emergency rooms at Community Hospital, Coldwater, and Paulding County Hospital. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of New Life Christian Center in Celina and was a graduate of Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Private family services are Saturday. Burial will follow at Swamp College Cemetery, Celina.
A public memorial service is at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, the Revs. Randy Boratko and Dan Hellwarth officiating.

Eldon Whetstone
Eldon F. Whetstone, 78, 850 Gethsemane Ave., St. Marys, died at 11:30 p.m. March 5, 2001 at St. Ritas Medical Center, Lima.
He was born May 14, 1922, in Auglaize County, to Franklin and Minnie Augusta (Trunk) Whetstone. On Sept. 25, 1943, he married Ruth Silvers, who died March 5, 1982. On Feb. 19, 1983, he married Norma Moyer Pottorf, who survives.
Other survivors are three daughters and their husbands, Mary Barbara and Don Humphreys, Lima, Sharon Elaine and Jim Winget, and Trena Jean and Dennis Chiles, all of St. Marys; two stepsons and their wives, Douglas and Sherry Pottorf, Sidney, and Craig and Diana Pottorf, Englewood; a stepdaughter and her husband, Cheryl and Bob Conrad, West Carrollton; a stepson, Rob Pottorf, Charlotte, N.C.; a sister and her husband, Ruth and Paul Bradford, New Knoxville; eight grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren, a great-grandchild, and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, Gerald, and a sister, Frances Thuman.
He was retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., St. Marys, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in France, Italy and Germany. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, and American Legion Post 323, both of St. Marys. He also was active at Piqua Baptist Church. He was a 1940 graduate of Buckland High School.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at the church, the Revs. Patricia Minnich and Don Wells officiating. Burial with graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post 323 will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, with a memorial service conducted by the American Legion at 7 p.m.

Adelbert Bowlzer
Adelbert R. "Dell" Bowlzer, 91, 534 E. Livingston St., Celina, died March 7, 2001 at Miller House.
He was born Sept. 15, 1909, in Cleveland, to Alfred Henry and Ella Margreta (Fehr) Bowlzer. On March 27, 1934, he married Nina Virginia Corkhill, who died Sept. 23, 1977.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Karen and Dick Geist, Celina, a sister, two granddaughters and a great-grandson.
He was retired as director of advertising for the former AVCO-New Idea Farm Equipment Co., Coldwater, and had been employed in marketing positions with B.F. Goodrich Co., in Denver and Akron. He was a member of the finance committee of Mercer County Republican politics and a member of Mercer County Elks Lodge 2170. He was a graduate of University of Southern California.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Steve Merold officiating. Burial is at Mercer Memory Gardens.
Calling is 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday and 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Charles Sutter
Charles J. Sutter, 76, died at 12:42 p.m. March 7, 2001 at his Hoagland, Ind., residence.
He was born Aug. 22, 1924, in Jay County, Ind., to Robert and Clara (Braun) Sutter. On Jan. 27, 1945, he married Mary Lou Heniser, who survives.
Other survivors are a daughter, Kathi L. Cole, Hoagland, Ind.; a son, Larry D. of Boonville, Ind.; two sisters, Rita M. Collins and Viola G. Morris, both of Muncie, Ind.; three grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was the previous owner and operator of Nine Mile Lumber Co., rural Fort Wayne, Ind.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Ind., the Rev. Gene Hart officiating. Burial is at Lawndale Cemetery, near Ridgeville, Ind.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Bessie Petit
Bessie Irene Petit, 79, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., formerly of Fort Recovery, died Friday, March 2, 2001 at 10:45 p.m. in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. following an extended illness.
She was born Sept. 11, 1921, in Medina, to John and Dorcas Davis. On April 11, 1945, she was married to William J. Petit, who died Sept. 15, 1970.
Survivors include two sons, Randy of Fort Recovery and Russel of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; a son and his wife, Gary and Marcia of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; three daughters, Sandy Newsome, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Cindy Hicks, Lincoln, Neb. and Linda Hart, Portland, Ind.; a sister, Elizabeth Britton, Rittman; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was one son, Ron, a daughter-in-law, Kay, a son-in-law, Gary Newsome, two sisters and two brothers.
A homemaker, she was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Doylestown, where a funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Hope Matthews
Former Celina resident Hope Matthews, 79, died March 8, 2001 at Otterbein Retirement Home in Lebanon.
Her parents were Chester and Lydia (Smith) Kincaid. She was married to Daniel Matthews, who is deceased.
Survivors are two daughters and their husbands, Kathy and Tom Schroeder and Susan and Rick Williams, all of West Chester, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a son, Daniel.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Edna Burgoon
Edna Burgoon, 92, formerly of 911 W. Auglaize St., Wapakoneta, died at 8:05 a.m. March 9, 2001 at Auglaize Acres, Wapakoneta.
She was born Oct. 9, 1908, in Toledo to Fred W. and Balbina (Gheret) Seitz. On Oct. 30, 1928, she married T.W. Burgoon, who died Sept. 27, 1987.
Survivors are a daughter, Carol Fuerst, Wapakoneta; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two sisters, Viola Presar and Alvena Zimmerman, and a son-in-law, Glen Fuerst.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Wapakoneta, and its Women's Guild.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Long & Folk Funeral Home, Wapakoneta, the Rev. Dr. John E. Manzo officiating. Burial is at Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta.
