DUFFEY, Harold
Age 82, of Bradford, passed away Thursday, December 23, 2010, at his home. Harold was born on March 12, 1928, in Circle Hill, Ohio to the late Ralph Duffey and Elizabeth Drees Duffey (Francis) Kraus. He is survived by step-brother Robert (Marianna) Kraus of Palo Alto, Calif. and step-sister Ellen (Robert) Hemmerich of West Milton. Harold was married
to his loving wife Marceda (Hodges) Duffey for 62 years and she survives. Also surviving are sons Toby Duffey of Bradford and Gary (Deborah) Duffey of Pleasant Hill; 6 grandchildren Shane (Michele) Duffey of Bellbrook, Shannon Duffey of Pleasant Hill, Sharon (Michael) Casey of Covington, Shaun Duffey of Covington, Heather (Daniel) Welbaum of Troy, Travis (Alyssa) Duffey of Hilliard, 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by step-brother Marvin (Glenna) Kraus. Harold was a 1946 graduate of Newton High School. He grew up helping his parents operate Duffey's Grocery in Circle Hill. In 1953, he began working at Meadow Gold Dairy/Beatrice Foods where he worked as a wholesale driver/salesman for 35 years. Harold was a member of Stillwater Grange for 65 years. He was a drummer in the Rhythm “5” Dance Band. He was a member of the Greenville Creek Christian Church. Funeral services for Harold will be held on 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 28, at the Jackson-Sarver Funeral Home, 1 S. Main Street, Pleasant Hill with Pastor Daryl Peeples officiating. Raymond J. Kellar on October 27, 1932 in Richmond, Indiana and he preceded her in death in 1982. She had been employed by the former Lear Avia in Piqua during WWII and then the Piqua Toy Factory. She retired from Piqua Memorial Hospital. Dorothy (Gross) Bucholtz, 95 of Laura, passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2009 in the Koester Pavilion, Troy. She was born May 22, 1914 in Miami County, Ohio to the late Everett and Bertha (White) Gross. She graduated in 1933 from Tippecanoe High School in Tipp City. Dorothy married
Lloyd L. Bucholtz September 28, 1933 in Covington, KY., and he preceded her in death. Dorothy was previously employed by the former Troy Sunshade Company and the former Murphys 5&10 Store in Troy. She also worked along side her husband Lloyd on the family farm. Dorothy enjoyed the farm life, vegetable and flower gardening. Ralph James Odle, 68 of Rochester, NY.; passed away Friday, September 25, 2009 in Rochester. He was born in Hornell, NY. to the late Ralph E. and Gladys (Kline) Odle. He married
Bonnie (Wise) Odle August 22, 1964 in Troy and they enjoyed over 45 years of marriage together. He was a teacher and had retired after 30 years of teaching from Honeoye Falls-Lima Central Schools. Jim was a semi-pro soccer player for the Rochester United Soccer League in which he played both in the USA and Europe. He was a member of the South East Bible Baptist Church in Rochester. He will be missed and remebered by his wife and best friend, Bonnie (Wise) Odle of Rochester; sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Kim Odle of Rochester; Chris and Cayce Odle of Webster, NY.; grandchildren, Jackson, Nicholas, Addison and Luke, brothers and sisters-in-law, Eldreth and Joan Odle of Rochester and Duane Odle of Auburn, NY., nephew and nieces, Lon Odle, Katie Odle and Sarah Odle, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert E. and Paticia Wise of Troy. JACKSON, Mary Esther 87, of Pleasant Hill, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 8, 2010, in the Claire Bridge Nursing Center. She was born September 15, 1922, in Pleasant Hill, to Forest & Stacy (Jay) Noll. She was preceded in death by her sister Glenna Alspaugh-Whitmer. Surviving her is her loving husband of 67 years, Warren H. Jackson; son & daughter-in-law Cecil & Cordy Jackson of Pleasant Hill, daughters & sons-in-law Bonita & Donald Jenkins-Pleasant Hill, Vinnie & Dan Williams of Troy; grandchildren Tony & Lynee Jackson, Tab & Sandra Jackson, Tiffany & Pat McBride, Tina & James Mollette, Jennifer & Giovani Quinones, Benjamin & Cassie Jenkins, Wendy Jenkins, Eric & Vanessa Williams, Amy & Scott Euton, Lora & Don Bauer, Jared & Angela Williams; 25 great-grandchildren; brother Marion & his wife Mary Noll of New Lebanon. Mary Esther worked as a beautician in her home for many years after graduating from Newton High School. She was an active member of the Troy Baptist Temple where she taught Sunday school for over 40 years. She was involved with the American Legion Women's Auxilliary in Pleasant Hill. She loved her cats and enjoyed working in her garden, spending time painting and writing poetry. Her greatest joy came from playing with her grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, January 13, at Jackson-Sarver Funeral Home, 1 S. Main St, Pleasant Hill. Robert S. Gearhardt age 85, passed away Monday morning, January 11, 2010, at his Covington home. He was born October 8, 1924, in Elizabeth Twp, Miami County, Ohio, to his parents J. Earl & Mary (Schaefer) Gearhardt. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Nancy (Hecker); daughter Connie Gearhardt Haines; sister Anna Belle Gearhardt; brothers William & Edward Gearhardt. He is survived by his daughter & son-in-law Cathy & Walter Knapp of Troy; son & daughter-in-law Larry & Michelle Gearhardt of Covington; grandchildren Angie Knapp of Troy, Kent Knapp of Centerburg, OH, Kristin Lewber of Covington, Chris Haines of Covington, Beth Humphrey of Piqua, Ashley Gearhardt of New Haven, CT; 10 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; son-in-law Douglas Haines. Bob graduated from Elizabeth High School and retired from Miller Bros. He was an active member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, and served on the Covington Village Council for 18 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 80, VFW #4235, Troy Lodge of Elks #833, Franklin Lodge No. 14 F. & A.M., and the Miami County Builders Association. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Friday, January 15, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Covington. Pastor Steve Nierman will officiate with interment following at Miami Memorial Park, Covington. DEATON, Betty J. Age 87 of Covington passed away Sunday, February 14, 2010, at Upper Valley Medical Center. She was born March, 10, 1922, in Arlington, Ohio, to her parents Owen & Melissa (Hall) Blankenship. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Chester “Chet” Deaton in 2008; son and daughter-in-law Edward & Lana Deaton; sisters Lulu Finfrock, Mildred Shively, Ruth Skinner, Evelyn Busby, Katie Blankenship, Bertha Blankenship; brothers William, Dan, George, Charles, Dave, Walter, Joe, Alfred, Winnard. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Nancy & Tom Yount of West Milton, Melinda & Gerald Flora of Covington; grandchildren Jeff Yount, Chad Yount, Tim Yount, Matt Deaton, Mike Flora, Wes Flora, Randall Flora, Brad Flora; sister Mary Richards of Eldorado, OH. She retired from Milton-Union Schools as a custodian. Lee Mendenhall, Age 82, of Troy, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2010, at Upper Valley Medical Center. He was born January 24, 1928, in Troy, to his parents Levi & Bertha (Martin) Mendenhall. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Lois (Ganger); his parents; brothers Allen & Robert Mendenhall; sisters Evelyn Mendenhall, Frances Wagner, Gladys Sanders, Margaret Bair, and Verna Mae Spangler. He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law Douglas Mendenhall of Troy, Dennis & Michelle Mendenhall of Troy; grandchildren Nathan Mendenhall of Tipp City, Carmen & Josh Marchal of Pleasant Hill; great granddaughter Claire Marchal; sister Wanda Jean Whittaker of Versailles. Lee graduated from Newton High School in 1946 and retired from the Chrysler Corporation in 1990. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, where he was awarded the Bronze Star, and became a member of the Korean War Veterans Association- Western Ohio Chapter, the WACO Historical Society, and the American Legion Post 43, Troy. He was an active member in the First Baptist Church, Troy. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 30, at Jackson-Sarver Funeral Home, 1 S. Main St., Pleasant Hill. SHELL, Leora Ivalue Leora Ivalue Shell, 78, of Covington, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at her residence. She was born on December 27, 1931, in Dayton, Ohio to Benjamin and Leora Niswonger. She was married
to Arnold Lee Moore in 1951, who preceded her in death. She then married
John Shell (former husband) who survives. Leora's family survivors include the following sons and daughter along with their spouses; Dennis and Mary Beth Moore of West Alexandria, Debra and Michael Robbins of Piqua, James and Cynthia Moore of Ft. Loramie, John and Kimberly Shell of Covington, and Jarrett & Heather Shell of Sidney. Leora was also survived by 20 grandchildren; Emily and Adam Demeter, Nicholas Moore, Andrea Moore, Natalie Moore, Annamarie Moore, Christina Moore, Hope Moore, Mary Kate Moore, Jacob Moore, Brad and Tracy Robbins, Stacie and Matthew Hickey, Wesley Moore and fiance' Annette Bruns, Katelin Moore, Kelsie Moore, Chloe Shell, Jese Shell, Carly Shell, Jack Shell, Kyle Brammer and fiance' Autumn LeMaster, and Madeline Grace Shell, and one great-granddaughter, Charity Moore. In addition to her parents and first husband, Leora was preceded in death by 4 brothers and a sister; Marvin Niswonger, James Niswonger, Robert Niswonger, Betty McCann, and Benjamin Niswonger III. Leora graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1949 in Dayton and began working at Delco Products. She married
and became a wonderful wife and mother. She was a homemaker, shuttle driver, 4-H mom and a football mom. She was very involved with her children's many activities and when grandchildren came along, was also involved in their activities as well. She attended the Harris Creek Brethren Church in Bradford, Ohio. She was a member of the Bradford Railroaders Museum and also a member of the Covington-Newberry Historical Society. She was an avid reader and a collector of many items. She truly enjoyed local history and wanted to help preserve the past. Leora was a wonderful mother and grandmother and friend. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, July 9, 2010, at Jackson-Sarver Funeral Home, 10 S. High Street, Covington, with Rev. Frank Sapp officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 PM at Miami Valley Memory Gardens in Centerville, Ohio. Visitation will take place at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 8, and from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 9, (2 hours prior to service). STRONG, Rex age 66, of Pleasant Hill, passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at Miami Valley Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born July 6, 1944, to his parents Ned Strong & Alice (Plunkett) Muckleroy who preceded him in death. Rex graduated from Newton High School Class of 1963 and worked at Lucas/Ledex in Vandalia as a production scheduler. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Church of Christ and was a volunteer firefighter for the Pleasant Hill-Newton Twp Joint Fire Department. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Kathi (Roeth) Strong; son Rob Strong of Columbus, OH; daughters and sons-in-law Debbie & Rick Parzych of Orient, OH, and Denise & Brian Ressler of Laura, OH; 5 grandchildren Reese & Rachel Parzych, Hunter Strong, Heather & Nicole Ressler, sister Nedra & Jerry Highley of Piqua. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, August 7, at Pleasant Hill United Church of Christ, 10 West Monument St., Pleasant Hill. WIERINGA, William Fredrick Age 79 of Troy, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2010, at Troy Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born April 14, 1931, in New Jersey, to his parents Peter & Cornelia (Licht) Wieringa. Bill graduated from Midland Park High School Class of 1948. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 21 years of services and following his military career, was employed at Leroi-Dresser Air Compressors as a field engineer. He was a member of the Lodge # 174 F & A.M. and the Scottish Rite. He was also an active member at the Troy Fish & Game. Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 50 years Patty Ann (Wright) in 2006. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law William F. Wieringa, Jr., Raymond “Ray” Wieringa and fiancée Bonnie Robinson of Covington, William F., III, & Christy Wieringa of Indianapolis, daughter and son-in-law Kimberly Sue “Kim” & Kevin Good of Troy, IN, granddaughter Stephanie & Chad Wright of Piqua; great grandchildren Paige Wieringa, Meghan Wright, Nicholas Wright, Carson Wright.
