USA High School Yearbooks by State and County

William C. “Bill” Jacomet; age 75 of Piqua died Thursday, June 12, 2003 at 5:55 p.m. at Piqua Manor Nursing Home. He was born June 21, 1927 in Piqua, Ohio to the late Carl W. and Margaret (Konz) Jacomet.
Three aunts; Alma Batson of Piqua and Eleanor Higgins and Irene Jacomet both of Troy and many cousins survive Bill.
He was a member of St. Boniface Church in Piqua. Bill was a machinist at Anthony Wayne Workshop in Greenville for 18 years. He was actively involved with the senior citizens at Riverside in Troy.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, June 16, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Boniface Church. Burial in Forest Hill cemetery will follow. Visitation will be Sunday 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home with a Prayer Service at 4:00p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface Church Building Fund 310 S. Downing St. Piqua, Ohio 45356.

Dale F. Palsgrove: age 66 of Piqua, died Monday, June 16, 2003 in his residence. He was born May 8, 1937 to the late Francis F. and Minnie E. (Buchholz) Palsgrove. Dale married Rita S. (Dickensheets) Palsgrove June 14, 1958 in Piqua; she survives.
Mr. Palsgrove is also survived by three sons: Steven A. Palsgrove, Michael Todd Palsgrove and Roger Lee Palsgrove all of Piqua; one daughter: Mrs. Thomas Bowman (Gale) of Piqua; one brother: Floyd Palsgrove, Jr. of Sparta, TX; two sisters: Mrs. Oran Cook (June) of Piqua and Mrs. Juanita Selanders of Bradford and four grandchildren: Beth Ann Bowman, Brandi Bowman, Kris Palsgrove and Blythe Palsgrove. One sister and one brother preceded Dale in death.
Dale graduated from Piqua Central High School in 1955. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ and was a member of the Gold Band of St. Paul’s Church. He was the past president of the Piqua Jaycees and a member of the Piqua Loyal Order of the Moose. Dale was a machinist and foreman at French Oil Mill and Machinery Company for 23 years. He retired in 1993 from Hartzell Propeller after 6 years of service. He was also an agent for Metropolitan for five years, serving 3 years a manager at the Piqua office.
Funeral Service will be Thursday, June 19, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Sapp officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Hill cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Unverferth House in Columbus 190 King Ave. Columbus, OH or Hospice of Miami County PO Box 502 Troy, Ohio 45373.

Mary A. (Casey) Guisinger: age 87 of Kettering formerly of Piqua died Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at 5:30a.m. at Heartland of Kettering Nursing Home. She was born October 16, 1915 in Piqua to the late William and Catherine (Wehner) Casey. She married Melvin Guisinger in 1935 at St. Mary Church in Piqua; he preceded her in death January 7, 1972.
Mrs. Guisinger is survived by two daughters and sons –in-law: Dorothy and Frank Ziegler of Piqua and Mary and Gene Sargent of Beavercreek; two sons and daughters-in-law: Melvin and Wilda Guisinger of Kalida, Ohio and James and Pat Guisinger of DeMotte, IN; one sister: Mrs. Irene Gardner of Maumee, OH; thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. One son, Robert, and one brother and two sisters preceded Mary in death.
Mary graduated from Piqua Catholic High School in 1934. She was a member of St. Mary Church and a member of the Altar Society. She was Ward Secretary at Piqua Memorial Hospital for 30 years retiring in 1978.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, June 20, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. St. Mary Church in Piqua with Fr. Thomas Grilliot officiating. Visitation will be Thursday 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, with a Prayer Service at 5:00 p.m.

Rhonda E. Schrubb, 42, of Piqua, died at 6:22 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2003. She was born July 16, 1960 in Piqua, Oh to the late Richard and Janice (Besecker) Daley.
She is survived by one son: Nathaniel Schrubb, Piqua, Oh and one daughter, Amanda Mae Schrubb, Piqua, Oh. Rhonda is also survived by 4 sisters: Lana White, Sidney, Oh, Gail Clark, Piqua, Oh, Patricia Young, Piqua, Oh, and Kim Hoffman, Lockington, Oh and one brother, Mark Daly, Springfield, Oh. Rhonda is also survived by her StepMother: Carol Zorn of Piqua, Ohio.
Rhonda worked at Orr Felt for 10 years. Rhonda was a mother figure to everyone she knew.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2003 at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Hill cemetery in Piqua. Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County, P.O. Box 502, Troy, OH 45373.

VIOLA M. (KEMP) FESSLER, age 89, of Piqua, Ohio, died Monday June 30, 2003 at 4 A.M. at Heartland of Piqua Nursing Home. She was born September 1, 1913 in Miami County to the late Lee and Myrtle (Trost) Kemp.
Surviving is a Son and Daughter-In-Law: Marion and Janice Fessler of Piqua, Ohio, a Daughter and Son-In-Law: Rita Carol (Fessler) and William Pappas of Sarasota, Fla. 1 Sister: Betty Hinkle of Piqua, Ohio and 1 Brother: Carl Kemp of Dayton, Ohio.
6 Grandchildren: Deborah Frevert, Douglas Fessler, Michael Fessler, Jennifer Crandall, Cortne Pappas, Bryan Pappas. 8 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren. Viola was preceded in death by 2 Sisters and 2 Brothers.
Mrs. Fessler was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. She was a cafeteria cashier for the Piqua City Schools for over 10 years.
Funeral services will be Thursday July 3, 2003 at 11 A.M. at MELCHER-SOWERS FUNERAL HOME. Burial will follow in Forest Hill cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday 6-8 P.M. in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice 3131 S. Dixie Dr. Suite 221 Dayton, Ohio 45439.

MARILYN S. EDGELL, 61, of, Piqua, died at 12:00 noon Saturday, July 5, 2003 at Upper Valley Medical Center. She was born Jan. 21, 1942 in Piqua, Oh. to the late Daniel Gephart and Helen (Sowers) Gephart of Piqua. Marilyn married William Edgell and he survives.
Mrs. Edgell is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Jeff Brownlee of Piqua; three sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Sherry Edgell of Piqua, Brian and Jamie Edgell of Fletcher, and Billy and Julie Edgell of Piqua. Three sisters, Carolyn Freeman of Piqua, Joyce Stevens of Piqua and Sherry Gephart of Piqua, one brother, Mike Gephart of Piqua. Seven grandchildren, Scotty Edgell, Jerrica Rue, Megan Edgell, Haley Kiser, Ashley Rue, Olivia Edgell and Rayna Brownlee. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Audrey Edgell.
She was a member of Crosspoint Church in Troy. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday July 9 at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home with the Rev. Daryl Fulp officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill cemetery in Piqua. Calling hours will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society 20 W. Main St. Springfield, Ohio 45502.

HAZEL M. CAVENDER, age 103, of Piqua, Ohio, died Sunday July 6, 2003 at 6:42 A.M. at Upper Valley Medical Center. She was born February 25, 1900 in Miami County to the late Willis E. and Velma M. (Young) Weaver. She married Henry (Harry) Cavender September 18, 1918 in Troy, Ohio and he preceded her in death in 1959.
Surviving are 2 sons and Daughter-In-Laws: Elwood and Elaine Cavender of Piqua, Ohio; Gaylord and Bonnie Cavender of Troy, Ohio.
3 Daughters and 1 Son-In-Law: Maxine and Paul West of Piqua, Ohio. Carolyn (Ann) Cavender of Piqua, Ohio. Connie Walker of Piqua, Ohio. 31 Grandchildren and 30 Great Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 4 Sons: Carl, Richard, Wilbur & George Cavender. 1 Daughter: Florence (Rohrer) Kerr. 5 Grandchildren: James, Scott, Tom & Curt Cavender and Paul West. She was also preceded in death by 2 Sisters & 1 Brother.
Mrs. Cavender worked at Craft Nursing Home in housekeeping for 12 years and Dettmer Hospital for 8 years.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday July 9, 2003 at 2 P.M. at MELCHER-SOWERS FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Lincoln Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Wheelock cemetery in Nashville, Ohio. Calling hours will be Tuesday 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County P.O. Box 502 Troy, Ohio 45373.

Vernon L. Schauer (The Can Man): age 76 of Piqua died Sunday, July 6, 2003 at 9:15 a.m. at Piqua Manor Nursing Home. He was born January 23, 1927 in Cincinnati, OH to the late Vernon R. and Eileen (Romaine) Schauer.
His wife, Marlene (Penrod) Schauer, whom he married May 6, 1961 in Lockington, Ohio, survives Mr. Schauer. He is also survived by one son: Daniel Schauer of Margo, FL; two daughters and son-in-law: Linda and Tim Graham of Piqua, OH and Iona M. Cordell of Cleveland, OH; one step-son: Richard Sweargin of Piqua, OH; two step-daughters and sons-in-law: Kathy and Richard Mays of Piqua, OH and Karen and John Wright of Piqua, OH; seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Vernon attended the Piqua Church of the Nazarene. He served our country during WW II in the U.S. Navy. He worked for the former Decker’s Packing Plant in Piqua for 17 ˝ years and then became self employed as a “The Can Man” for 21 years.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, July 10, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home with Rev. Lincoln Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

EDITH L. HENSON, age 87, of Piqua, Ohio died Thursday, July 10, 2003 at 1:35 PM at Piqua Manor Nursing Home.
She was born October 6, 1915 in Piqua, Ohio to the late Jacob A. and Margaret M. (Vandine) Dunn. She married William R. Henson April 4, 1945 in Piqua, Ohio. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Henson is survived by 2 sons: William R. Henson of Troy, Ohio and James E. Henson of Tipp City, Ohio and 2 daughters and sons-in-law: Carol A. and Richard Pence of Quincy, Ohio and Vera L. and Rick Hageman of Sidney, Ohio. Also surviving are 1 sister: Effie Dunn of Sidney, Ohio, 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Henson was a member of Good Shepard United Presbyterian Church. She was a homemaker.
Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial to follow at Forest Hill cemetery. Calling hours will be private.
