CHARLOTTE “ANNI” CARDO, 61, of Piqua, died Wednesday July 16, 2003 at 12:20 a.m. at Piqua Manor Nursing Home. She was born March 25, 1942 in Piqua, to the late Fred and Mary Margaret (Heitsman) Wagner.
Charlotte is survived by one daughter, Cadena Cardo of Piqua; one sister, Peggy Wagner-Mitchell of Tipp City, Oh., and one brother, James A. Wagner of Florida. She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Charlotte graduated from Piqua Central High School in 1960. She attended St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Piqua. She worked for Evenflo for ten years and she also worked for Piqua Memorial Hospital/ Upper Valley Medical Center for 91/2 years.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 19th at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeff Bigby officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

Franklin D. Perando: age 71 of Covington died Friday, August 8, 2003 at 7:06 p.m. at V.A. Medical Center in Dayton. He was born November 15, 1931 in Deer Park, MD to the late Benjamin F. and Evelyn (O’Haver) Perando.
Frank is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law: Michael and Patricia Perando of Piqua and Steven Perando of Piqua and two daughters and sons-in-law: Tawana and Jerry Ammon of Troy and Valinda and Russell Profitt of Hamilton and nine grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers: Russell Perando of MD and Benjamin Perando of CA, one sister: Helen Thrasher of MD and a special friend: Carol Hunter of Covington.
Mr. Perando was a member of the Greenville Fraternal Order of the Eagles # 2177, Piqua Am Vets, and Piqua VFW Post # 4874. He served our country in the United Sates Air Force during the Korean Conflict, serving as an MP. Frank was a self-employed contractor in the Piqua area for 25 years. He was an avid music lover, playing lead guitar in several local bands.
A Memorial Service will be held for family and friends Thursday, August 14, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home in Piqua. His family will celebrate his life by conducting the services through memories. Frank will be taken back home to Maryland to be buried with his family.
ROBERT P. KAUFMAN, M.D. age 74 of Sidney, Ohio went to be with the Lord on Monday August 11, 2003 at 10:14 A.M. at Kettering Medical Center. He was born June 9, 1929 in Sikeston, Missouri to the late Charles and Trecy (Valentine) Kaufman. He married
Onnalee McGillvary June 24, 1950 in Troy, Ohio and she survives.
One Son and Daughter-In-Law: Eric and Cheryl Kaufman of Austin, Texas also survives him. One sister and four brothers preceded him in death.
Dr. Kaufman was a member of Only Believe Ministries in Botkins, OH. He graduated from Troy High School in 1947. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts with honors in Psychology from the University of Kentucky in 1951and his Medical Degree from the Ohio State College of Medicine in 1956. He served his Internship in 1956 in Norfolk, VA at the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital. Dr. Kaufman served our country in the military from 1957-1959 in Mescalero, New Mexico at U.S. Public Health Service Hospital. He implemented the West Milton Family Practice and had his own family practice in Germantown, Ohio from 1955-1970. He completed his residency in 1972 in General Surgery at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. In 1972 he was the Medical Director of Vogel Health Center. He then continued his medical practice in Missionary Medicine as a replacement physician in West Africa, with the Conservative Baptist Missionary Society. In 1973 he acted as the student health physician at Wright State University. In 1974 he began as Medical Director of Claridge Community Health Center, where he was previously the Director. He provided medical services to the Medical Department of World Radio Missionary Fellowship in Ecuador and was under auspices of the Montgomery County Combined Health District, was Clinical Faculty member of the Department of Family Practice at Wright State University College of Medicine. Dr. Kaufman was a member of the following medical societies: MCKS, OSMA, AMA, OAFP and OAGP. He was also a Diplomate American Board of Family Practice.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home in Piqua with Pastor Peter Doseck officiating. Burial will follow at Miami Memorial Park in Covington with full military honors provided by Piqua VFW Post #4874. Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

LOUIS D. DELONG, age 90, formerly of Piqua, died Wednesday August 13, 2003 at 4:55 A.M. at Palm Garden Nursing Home in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born January 2, 1913 in Piqua, Ohio to the late Daniel A. and Louise (Hinger) DeLong. He married
Rosella Weiss on October 27, 1937 in Piqua, Ohio and she preceded him in death in March of 1975.
Mr. DeLong is survived by 1 Son: David M. DeLong of Halethorpe, Maryland. 1 Daughter and Son-in-law: Judith and James Smith of St. Marys, Georgia. 5 Grandchildren and 9 Great-Grandchildren. Louis was preceded in death by 1 brother, 1 grandchild and 1 son: Robert L. Delong.
Mr. DeLong graduated from Piqua Central High School in 1931. He was a member of the French Valley Methodist Church in Russell Springs, Kentucky. He worked for General Motors in Dayton, Ohio for 25 years as an inspector and retired in 1976.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 18, 2003 at 10 A.M. at MELCHER-SOWERS FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Michael Milthaler officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill cemetery in Piqua, Ohio. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4 P.M at the funeral home.
Wanda J. (Houseman) Kiser: age 76 of Piqua, died Thursday, August 14, 2003 at 5:20 a.m. at Dorothy Love Retirement Home in Sidney. She was born January 19, 1927 in Piqua, Ohio to the late Harry and Bonita (Denman) Houseman. Wanda married
Fond D. Kiser, Jr. April 14, 1945 in Piqua; he preceded her in death in 1989.
Mrs. Kiser is survived by one daughter and son-in-law: Connie and Bruce Kennett of Piqua; three sons and daughters-in-law: Michael D. and Sharon Kiser of Piqua, Mark D. Kiser of Piqua and Fond D. and Jan Kiser of Cocoa, Fla., seven grandchildren and nine (and one on the way) great grandchildren. One brother preceded her in death.
Wanda attended Piqua City Schools. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Piqua. She was a nurse’s aid at Piqua Memorial Medical Center for twelve years, retiring in 1986. She was also a member of YWCA, serving on the membership committee.
Funeral Services will be Monday, August 18, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home with Pastor Mary Haldeman officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday 3:00 – 5:00p.m. at the funeral home.

VERNIE L. SULLIVAN, age 84, of Piqua, Ohio, died Friday August 15, 2003 at 5 A.M. in her residence. She was born in Morgan County, Kentucky April 7, 1919 to the late John and Mary (Skaggs) Ison. She married
Wayne Sullivan March 16, 1936 in Kentucky and he preceded her in death in 1981.
Surviving are 3 Sons and Daughter-In-Laws: Paul and Sue Sullivan of Piqua, Ohio; Ron and Rose Ann Sullivan of Atoka, Tenn.; Arnold and Millie Sullivan of Elyria, Ohio. 2 Sisters: Grace Phillips of S. Carolina; Pearl Smith of Lexington, Ky. 9 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild. She was preceded in death by 1 Son: Donald Sullivan.
Mrs. Sullivan was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church in Elyria, Ohio.

HAZEL PREAS, age 89, of Piqua, Ohio, died Saturday August 16, 2003 at 2:10 P.M. at Upper Valley Medical Center. She was born in Sidney, Ohio on December 31, 1913 to the late Harvey and Anna May (Cotterman) Wooddell, Sr. She married
Emerson Zumbrun on February 24, 1940 in Pleasant Hill, Ohio and he died in 1964.
Hazel is survived by 2 Sons: Robert E. Zumbrun of Memphis, Tenn.; Lester A. Zumbrun of Dayton, Ohio. 1 Daughter: Mrs. Henry Reineke (Patricia) of Piqua, Ohio. 1 Brother: Harvey Wooddell, Jr. of Sidney, Ohio; 2 Sisters: Mrs. Ethel Lamastus of Sidney, Ohio and Mrs. Ruth Ann Michael of Marshfield, Mo.
Mrs. Preas was preceded in death by 2 Brothers and 1 Son.
She graduated from Sidney High School in 1933 and in 1937 she graduated from the Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse. She was a member of the First United Methodist church in Sidney, Ohio. She also was a member of the Sidney Eastern Stars. She worked at Wilson Hospital in Sidney for 3 Years; Toledo State Hospital for 2 Years and Piqua Memorial Medical Center for 5 years as assistant supervisor.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday August 20, 2003 at 1 P.M. at MELCHER-SOWERS FUNERAL HOME with burial following in Pearl cemetery, Sidney, Ohio. Friends may call Wednesday 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. An Eastern Star service will be conducted at 12 Noon Wednesday in the funeral home.
Michael G. Eloshway, age 42 of Piqua, OH died Sunday, August 17, 2003 at 6:40 pm at Harborside Nursing Home in Troy, OH. He was born November 5, 1960 in Brownsville, PA to the late Stephen Eloshway and Pauline (Billingsly) Eloshway of California, PA. Mike married
Nanette (Workman) Eloshway June 2, 1986 in Brownsville, PA; she resides in Piqua, OH.
Michael is survived by four sons: Daniel Workman, Nicholas Workman, and Shawn Eloshway all of Piqua and Nathew Eloshway of Pittsburg, PA, one grandson: Colin Eloshway of Piqua, OH and his mother and father-in-law: James Workman of Parkersburg, WV and Linda Workman of Brownsville, PA. One brother, Stephen Eloshway, preveded him in death.
Mr. Eloshway was formerly employed at St. Marys Church in Piqua as maintenance.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, August 21, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Apostolic Temple in W. Brownsville, PA with his brother-in-lawm, Rev. R. A. Workman officiating. Burial will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park in Brier Hill, PA. Visitation will be Wednesday 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the church. Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home in Piqua, OH is handling the arrangements.
Mary R. (Goode) Landon: age 83 of Piqua, died Sunday, August 17, 2003 at 11:05 p.m. at Piqua Manor Nursing Home. She was born January 16, 1920 in Shelby County to the late Roy and Ruth (Martin) Goode.
Mrs. Landon is survived by one daughter and son-in-law: Judy and Gregg Brookhart of Piqua, one son and daughter-in-law: Clarence (Clancy) and Sandy Landon of Niceville, FL, six grandchildren Natalie and Charles Mize, Eric Mize and Jason Mize all of Macon. GA, Brian and Emily Brookhart of Piqua, Beth Brookhart of Columbus and Amanda and Ryan King of Piqua and three great grandchildren, m Even, Faith, and Isabelle. Two sisters preceded her in death.
She retired from Kroger as a cashier in Piqua, Troy and Sidney in 1983 after 27 years of service.
