Anthony James (AJ) Staton, 19, of Piqua, died Sunday Oct. 19, 2003 in Piqua, Oh. He was born Aug. 25, 1984 in Dayton, Oh. to Harlan and Teresa (Sowers) Staton of Piqua, Oh.
Surviving is one sister, Misty Staton of Piqua; Paternal Grandmother, Rosemarie Staton of Piqua; Maternal Grandparents, Paul & Wesley Sowers of Piqua, and Connie and Lester Zumbrun of Dayton, Oh; Great Grandparents, True and LaVonne Whitenack of Harveysburg, Oh; four uncles, Bryan Sowers and Stacey of Piqua, Daniel and Chasity Sowers of Piqua, Mike Sowers and Toni of Piqua, and Dusty Zumbrun and Stephanie of Columbus, Oh; two aunts, Michelle Frysinger of Wapakaneta, Oh, and Secret and Daniel Stewart of Dayton Oh. AJ also has many great aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his great grandparents: Everett and Helen Sowers and Great grandmother: Mary Whitenack.
A.J. graduated from Piqua Central High School and Piqua JVS in 2002.
Funeral services will be Monday, October 27, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home with Rev. Ernie Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill cemetery. Calling Hours will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua.
Memorial contributions may be made to help defray funeral expenses.

RUTH ANN CURTNER, 52, of Piqua, died Tuesday Oct. 21, 2003, in her residence. She was born December 21, 1950 in Miami County to Lawrence and Betty (Yingst) Barhorst of Piqua, Oh. She married Ron Curtner, in which they enjoyed 34 years together and he survives.
Ruth is survived by one son, Michael Curtner of Venice, Fla.; One daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and John, Jr. Moore of Piqua, Oh; Two brothers, Robert Barhorst of Sidney, Oh, and James Barhorst of Covington, Oh; Four grandchildren, Zach, Nathan, and Allison Curtner of Venice, Fla. and Collin Moore of Piqua.
Ruth graduated from Piqua Central High School in 1969. She was a member of the Piqua Kiwanis Club and the Miami County Board of Realtors. She was a Licensed Realtor for 29 years.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday Oct. 24, at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home with the Rev. Fr. Thomas Grilliot officiating. The Piqua Kiwanis Club prior to the Funeral service will give a service. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held on Monday Oct. 27 at Forest Hill cemetery in Piqua.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Care Center at UVMC, 3130 N. Dixie HWY Troy, Oh. 45373 and the Piqua Kiwanis Club, P.O. Box 738 Piqua, Oh. 45356.

Jeffrey A. DeBrosse: age 39 of Covington; died Sunday, October 26, 2003. He was born September 18, 1964 in Tuscan, AZ.
Jeff is survived by his father: Richard DeBrosse of California and his mother and stepfather: Delores Sally (Etlett) and James Franke of Covington. He married Ruth Schneider Causey DeBrosse January 12, 1988 in Troy; she survives. He is also survived by three step-daughters and sons-in-law: Robin and John James, Susan Causey and Michelle and Steven Stahl all of Piqua; three sisters: Janice Riggs of Piqua, Judy and Chris Hahn of Orange Park, FL and Kim and Mitch Aures of Orange Park, FL. Six grandchildren, three nieces and one nephew also survive him. His father-in-law: Andrew Schneider preceded him in death.
Mr. DeBrosse graduated cum lade from Wilmington College with a Bachelors Degree in Social Services. He was currently employed by Hines Builders in Troy. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and camping and he also enjoyed art, especially drawing. Jeff was extremely creative and the ultimate handyman.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, October 29, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home with Fr. Angelo Caserta officiating. Burial will follow in Miami Memorial Park cemetery in Covington. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12:00 noon – 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family requests memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help defray funeral expenses.

CHARLES W. ZELLER: age 79 of Piqua; died Wednesday, October 29, 2003 at 10:35 P.m. at Upper Valley Medical Center . He was born May 12, 1924 in Fletcher, Ohio to the late William and Sylvia (Francis) Zeller. He married Shirley A. Retterbush on Sept. 4, 1946 in Newport, Ky., and she survives.
Charles is survived by two sons: Jerry L. Zeller of New Carlisle, Ohio and Mark D. Zeller of Troy, one brother: Clarence Zeller of Troy, Ohio, and one sister: Dorothy Botkins of Rio Grand, Ohio. 5 grandchildren: Scott Zeller, Cody Zeller, Jennifer Zeller, Tanya Zeller and Tim Zeller, and 3 great grandchildren: Brooke Zeller, Kolin Zeller and Kahann Zeller also survive him.
He served our country in the United States Army from 1943-1945. He retired from Hobart Corporation in Troy in 1995 after 42 years of service as a drill press operator and received his membership in the Quarter Century Club at Hobart Corp.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, November 4, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home in Piqua. Burial will follow at Forest Hill cemetery in Piqua with full military honors provided by Piqua VFW Post #4874. Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ruby J. (Staudt) Lindhaus: age 90 formerly of Covington; died Thursday, October 30, 2003 at 9:05 p.m. at Koester Pavilion in Troy. She was born April 25, 1913 in Osgood, Ohio to the late William and Josie M. (Supinger) Staudt. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William H. Kelley, May 11, 1971 and her second husband, Henry J. Lindhaus, June 23, 1985.
Ruby is survived by one daughter and son-in-law: Edith and Harold Horner of Brookville; three grandchildren: Karen Gephart, Sherri Todd and Scott Horner; four great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Six brothers, four sisters and one daughter and son-in-law: Norma and Ralph Kreitzer preceded her in death.
Mrs. Lindhaus was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Covington and was a homemaker all of her life.
Graveside Services will be Monday, November 3, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Highland cemetery in Covington with Rev. Dan Poole officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home.

John Michael Lachey: age 46 of Piqua; died on All Saints Day Saturday, November 1, 2003 at 4:37 a.m. at V.A. Hospital in Dayton. He was born April 5, 1957 in Sidney to John D. and Marjorie (Ballweg) Lachey of Sidney. He married Jolene (England) Lachey February 16, 2002 at St. Mary Church in Piqua.
John is survived by his parents; his wife; two sons: Ian Lachey and Alex England both of Piqua; one brother and sister-in-law: Joseph and Shannon Lachey of Sidney and one sister and brother-in-law: Beverly and Don Goettemoeller of Sidney. He is also survived by his mother-in-law: Martha England of Piqua; nieces and nephews: Lauren, Ryan and Christian Goettemoeller and Taylor and Tyler Lachey; two sisters-in-law: Jane Bice of Piqua and Judy Hedrick of Madisonville, TN and one brother-in-law: Jerry and Cindy England of Piqua.
Mr. Lachey graduated from Sidney High School in 1975 and Edison State Community College in 1985. He was a member of St. Boniface Church in Piqua, Sidney American Legion Post #217; Sidney Am Vets Post #1986 and Sidney Fraternal Order of the Eagles # 1403. John served his country in the U.S. Air Force 1975-1979. He was a Design Draftsman for Hartzell Fan Company for 16 years.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Boniface Church with Fr. Angelo Caserta officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill cemetery in Piqua. Calling hours will be Tuesday 12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home with a Prayer Service at 4:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Dayton V.A. Hospice 4100 W. Third St. Dayton, Ohio 45428.

Raymond N. Brewer: age 65 of Piqua; died Thursday, November 13, 2003 at 9:40 p.m. at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. He was born January 13, 1938 in Wellston, Ohio to Harvey Brewer and Irma (Sims) Bays. He married Margie (Burch) Brewer February 13, 1995 in Wellston, Ohio.
Ray is survived by his mother, Irma Bays of Fairborn; his wife: Margie Brewer of Piqua; four sons and daughters-in-law: Gene Brewer of Wellston, OH, John and Barb Cline of Columbus, Tom and Karin Cline of Piqua and Brian and JoJo Ferree of Piqua; for daughters and sons-in-law: Kelli and Brett Baker of Tipp City, Linda and Mike Sharp of Wellston, Shelia and Al Tipps of Piqua and Susan and Dick Cheney of Piqua. He is also survived by one sister and brother-in-law: Corina and Johnny Potter of Jamestown and one brother and sister-in-law: Gary and Beth Bays of Fairborn; 22 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. One daughter: Irma “Sissy” Brewer and one sister: Onita Woodrum preceded him in death.
Mr. Brewer was a member of the Piqua Loyal Order of the Moose #184 and the Piqua Fish and Game Club. He retired from Piqua Steel Company after 25 years of service.
A Memorial Service will be Monday, November 17, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home with Rev. James Christy officiating.

MABLE M. SHAEFFER, age 88, of Piqua, Ohio, formerly of Lake Placid, Florida died Saturday November 29, 2003 at 4:34 A.M. at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy, Ohio. She was born March 28, 1915 in Piqua, Ohio to the late Carl and Delia (Byers) Stelzner. She married Arthur Shaeffer Dec. 1945 in Piqua, Ohio and he preceded her in death in 1981.
Mable is survived by 1 Step Daughter: Mary Ann Shaeffer of Troy, Ohio, 1 Step Son: James Shaeffer of Troy, Ohio, and several Step Grandchildren. 1 Sister- Barbara Stephson of St. Paris, Ohio and a special Niece: Deborah & Jonathon McCulla of St. Paris, Ohio, 1 Great Great Niece and 1 Great Great Nephew and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Shaeffer was preceded in death by 3 Brothers and 3 Sisters.
Mrs. Shaeffer was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in Lake Placid, Fla. When visiting Ohio Mable attended the First Baptist Church in St. Paris, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday Dec. 3, 2003 at 11 A.M. at MELCHER-SOWERS FUNERAL HOME, with Dr. Rev. James Van Zile officiating. Calling hours will be Tuesday 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery, Lake Placid, Fla.

Mary L. Cantwil: age 78 of Piqua; died Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at Koester Pavilion in Troy. She was born January 17, 1925 in Piqua to the late Roy and Helen (Moore) Hubbell. She married William (B.J.) Cantwil, Jr., and he survives.
Mary is also survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: William Allen and Debra Cantwil of Piqua and Mark and Shirley Cantwil of Ft. Loramie, one sister: Margaret Gear of Piqua and one brother: Richard Hubbell of Sacramento, CA. Six grandchildren also survive her and eight great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Cantwil graduated from Piqua Central High School in 1943.
Funeral Services will be Sat. December 6, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home with Pastor Don Wells officiating . Burial will follow in Forest Hill cemetery. Visitation will be Fri. Dec. 5, 2003 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the charity of choice.
