FLOSSIE D. COATE, age 94, formerly of E. First St., Piqua, died Saturday July 3, 2004 at 12:55 P.M. at Fairhaven Nursing Home in Sidney. She was born Dec. 7, 1909 in Shelby County to the late Theodore and Rebecca (Barnhart) Reineke.
She married
Donald L. Coate on July 10, 1938 in Piqua and he preceded her in death in 1983.
Surviving is One Step-Daughter, Barbara and Cecil Swiger of Anna, Oh; Several Nieces and Nephews. Five grandchildren, eleven Great-Grandchildren and several Great-Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be Wednesday July 7, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. at MELCHER-SOWERS FUNERAL HOME with Rev. John Tonkin officiating. Burial will follow in Miami Memorial Park, Covington, Ohio. Calling Hours will be Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
George Edgar “Ed” Jess: age 58 of Piqua; Went to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at 3:14 p.m. from his residence. He was born October 1, 1945 in Piqua to George H. Jess and Marian (Muter) Furniss. Ed married
Susan K. “Sue” (Oehrtman) Jess October 5, 1974 in Versailles.
Mr. Jess is survived by his wife: Sue Jess of Piqua; four daughters and son-in-law: Sarah Jess of Dayton, Jennifer and William Remien of Tallahassee, Fl, Megan Jess of Dayton and Emma Jess of Piqua; one granddaughter: Audrey Remien and a grandson due in November. He is also survived by his mother and stepfather: Marian and Jack Furniss of Columbus; two sisters: Becky Timmons of Columbus and Ellen Case of Hebron; one brother: Rev. Eric Pohlschneider of Columbus; one stepsister: Sharon Mortenson of Michigan; one stepbrother: Jim Jess of Georgia and his father-in-law: Paul Oehrtman of Versailles. Ed’s father, George H. Jess, preceded him in death.
Ed attended Piqua City Schools, graduated from Dayton Barber College and graduated from Charles F. Stephan Cosmetology School in Dayton. He was committed to advancing his technique by frequently traveling to major U.S. cities for further education. Ed was a member of the Family of Grace United Methodist Church; where he was active in the choir and dinner theater. He learned to play the violin at the age of 57 and continued to love playing. Ed served two tours of Vietnam in the U.S. Army. In 1978 he became the owner/operator of Ed Jess Hair Stylists on Covington Ave, Piqua.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 17, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Family of Grace United Methodist Church 9411 Co. Rd. 25-A, Piqua with Rev. Dr. Dennis Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Beechwood cemetery in Lockington. Veterans Elite Tribute Squad (VETS) will provide full military honors. Visitation will be Friday 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the church.

L. Dean (Dino) Spade, age 60, of DeGraff, Ohio, Formerly of Piqua, Ohio died Saturday July 17, 2004 at 9:52 A.M. at Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine, Ohio. He was born July 9, 1944 in Piqua, Ohio to the late Ivan and Irene (Plantz) Spade.
Surviving are 2 Daughters & Sons-In-Law: Jennie & Mason Brubaker of London, Ohio and Shellie & Adam Hembree of Covington, Ohio. 2 Brothers & Sister-In-Law: David & Alice Spade of Bradford, Ohio; R. Wayne Spade of Troy, Ohio; 1 Sister: Carolyn Spade of Bradford, Ohio.
4 Grandchildren: Ryan & Katie Hembree of Covington, O. Rachel & Hunter Brubaker of London, O.
He was preceded in death by 1 Grandson: Matthew Payton Hembree and 1 Brother and 1 Sister.
Mr. Spade graduated from Troy High School in 1963. He was a former coach of the only girls hockey team in Troy and former Boy Scout leader in Piqua for many years.
He was employed by the Pepsi Co. in Piqua for over 25 years. He was also a D.J. for Illusions for over 15 years.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday July 21, 2004 at 10:30 A.M. at Miami Memorial Park with Rev. Jessie Tipton officiating. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5-7 P.M. at MELCHER-SOWERS FUNERAL HOME.

DONALD S. FREEMAN, age 48, of Piqua, Ohio died Wednesday July 21, 2004 at 10:20 P.M. at Upper Valley Medical Center. He was born January 31, 1956 in Piqua, Ohio to Norman and Norma (Elders) Freeman who survive of Piqua, O.
Also surviving is 1 Brother & Sister-In-Law: Larry & Becky Freeman of Sidney, Ohio. 2 Nephews and 5 Nieces.
Mr. Freeman was a former member of the Piqua Assembly of God Worship Center. He was the drummer for Dottie and the Country Four for many years. Don was also a member of the Piqua Amateur Radio Club.
Funeral services will be Monday July 26, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. at MELCHER-SOWERS FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Steve Sykes and Rev. Leamon Branscum officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill cemetery, Piqua, O. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4-8 P.M. in the funeral home.
BETTY L. TRON, age 79, went home to be with the Lord on July 30, 2004 at 12:55 A.M. at Covington Care Center, Covington. Her favorite scripture was Revelation 21:4 “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” (NIV). She was born August 31, 1924 in Troy, Ohio to the late Ernest and Frances (Fox) Tron. She is survived by 1 son & daughter-in-law: Darrell & Judy Tron, Piqua; 1 brother: Howard Tron, Tipp City, OH; 3 sisters: Caroline Gould, Beavercreek, OH, Della Plunkett, Tipp City, OH, and Patricia Petry, New Paris, OH; 3 grandchildren: Timothy Tron, Piqua, Kelly Thomas, Covington, OH and Carla Lawson, Newport, OH; and 3 great-grandchildren: Nickolas Sudduth, Seth Thomas & Taylor Tron. Betty was preceded in death by 1 brother: William Tron & 3 sisters: Annie Senter, Vera Wobbe & Geraldine Rasor.
Betty was a member of Troy Baptist Temple, Troy, OH.
She was employed by Ledex in Vandalia for 35 years as an assembler.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua.
Earlene McKinney: age 76 of Piqua; died Monday, August 9, 2004 at 12:10 a.m. at Koester Pavilion in Troy. She was born May 31, 1928 in Waldo, AK to the late Tilton and Leedoshia (Mixon) Smith.
Ms. McKinney is survived by six sons and daughters-in-law: Earl and Bridgette McKinney of Piqua, Kenneth and Mary Coulter of Piqua, Johnny and Debbie Coulter of Piqua, George and Lisa Atkins of Dayton, Jasper Atkins and Tammy Morrow of Piqua and Jerry and Cheryl Atkins of Piqua; two daughters and sons-in-law: Pauline and Edward Henry of Waldo, AK and Lois and Bennie McDonald of Piqua. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren; two brothers: Melvin Smith of Hot Springs, AK and Otis Smith of Wichita, KS and two sisters: Pearline Beasley of Waldo, AK and Edna Elliott of Waldo, AK.
Funeral Services will be Friday, August 13, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home with Rev. Ernest Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

LEO F. POLITTE: age 97 of Piqua, died Friday, August 27, 2004 at 12:25 a.m. at Piqua Manor Nursing Home in Piqua. He was born April 14, 1907 in Old Mines, MS to the late Dave and Rose (Trokey) Politte.
Mr. Politte is survived by five daughters and sons-in-law: Ruby Wheeler, Piqua; Virginia & Robert Wyer, Piqua; Marie & Mac McCalum, Boron, CA; Wanda & Ron Huff, Overton, NV; and Carol Clawson, Cabozon, CA. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Leo was preceded in death by one brother.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time at Dessert Lawn cemetery, Calimacia, CA. with the Rev. Fr. John Reid officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, of Piqua.
Linda A. (Schauer) Graham, age 40, Piqua, went to be with the Lord Sunday August 29, 2004 at 8:10 A.M. at her residence. She was born August 9, 1964 in Piqua to Marlene A. (Penrod) Schauer, of Piqua and the late Vernon Schauer.
She married
Timothy A. Graham on March 21, 1988. He survives.
Linda is also survived by 2 sons: Senzian T. Graham and Shawn E. Graham, both of Piqua; her maternal grandmother: Ola Penrod, Piqua; 1 brother: Danny Schauer, Clearwater, FL; 2 half-sisters: Kathy Mays and Karen Wright, both of Piqua; and 1 half-brother: Richard Sweargin, Piqua.
Linda graduated from Piqua High School in 1982. She was a member of Piqua Church of the Nazarene. Linda was employed by Bob Evans in Piqua for 3 years as a cook and Lee’s Famous Recipe in Piqua, Sidney & Troy for 10 years as a Manager.
Funeral services will be Friday September 3, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. at Piqua Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Christopher Polley and Pastor Lincoln Robinson co-officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill cemetery, Piqua, Ohio. Calling Hours will be Thursday 4-8 p.m. at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home.
Michael Roark: age 44 of Piqua; died Monday, September 6, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. at Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy. He was born June 1, 1960 in Sibert, KY to the late Johnny and Martha (Swafford) Roark. Michael married
Kalisa J. (Zeller) Roark August 2, 1993 in Troy; she survives.
Michael is survived by on son: Thomas M. Roark of Troy; two daughters and son-in-law: Lisa and Philip Lucas of AL and Tiffany L. Roark of Troy; one stepdaughter: Savannah Norris of Piqua and one stepson: Matthew Norris of Piqua. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Courtney, Kaitlyn and Makayla Lucas and Thomas M. Roark, Jr.; three sisters: Betty (Wendell) Stepp of KY, Carolyn (Lanny) Domanek of Springfield and Wilma Baker of Piqua and two brothers: Bill (Cathy) Roark of Troy and Gary (Kelly) Roark of Piqua. One brother: Robbie Roark and one sister: Diane Roark preceded him in death.
Mr. Roark attended Piqua City Schools and was a former member of the Covington Fraternal Order of the Eagles.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, September 9, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home with Rev. John Hunsaker officiating. Burial will follow at Miami Memorial Park in Covington. Visitation will be Thursday 11:00 – 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
