Shirley Marie (Betts) Matson, 64, of Cloverdale, died April 29 at her residence. She was born May 25, 1937, in Paulding to Carl E. and Beulah (Smith) Betts. Survivors include a son, Roger Matson of Delphos; four daughters, Sherry Saunders and Roxie Palmer of Continental, Robin (Rick) Sheaks of Ottoville and Sandy Weible of Defiance; two brothers, Marlin "Bob" (Becky) Betts of Lima and Donald Betts of Baltimore, Md.; two sisters, Wilma Jean (Doyle) Martz of Landeck and LaDean (John) Krontz of Columbus Grove; a sister-in-law, Ruth Betts; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Betts Jr., and a sister, Eileen Betts. Ms. Matson had been a seamstress at R&B Fabrications in Oakwood. She was a member of the Eagles and enjoyed to sew, bowl and be outdoors. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Harter and Son Memorial Chapel, the Rev. David Howell officiating. Funeral services for Katherine L. McBride, 73, of Lima, who died 1:15 a.m. April 30 at Lima Manor Nursing Home, will be 1 p.m. Friday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, the Rev. Terry Brock officiating. Burial will be in Shawnee Cemetery. She was born May 1, 1928, in Detroit, Mich., to George W. and Edna (Murphy) Klinker. She married Landis A. McBride Sr., who died Sept. 23, 1980. Survivors include four sons, Ronald (Brenda) McBride of Oakwood, Donald (Mary) McBride of New Castle and Landis "Allen" (Glenda) McBride Jr. and William McBride of Lima; a daughter, Sandra (Gary) Croft of Elida; a brother, Donald Klinker of Russels Point; a sister, Loma Papp of Monroe, Mich.; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Linda Mae McBride. Mrs. McBride retired from the Lima News and was co-owner-manager, along with her husband, of Checker & Red Top Cabs and Allen County Lima Ambulance Service. She had attended Grace Methodist Church. Gaylord A. "Geg" "Jiggs" Boyd, 88, of Van Wert, died 1:13 p.m. April 30 at Vancrest Health Care Center, Van Wert. He was born Jan. 12, 1914, in Moss Point, Miss., to Cover and Cora (Perry) Boyd. Survivors include a sister, Helen Reichard of Van Wert; two nieces, Charlotte Harting of Van Wert and Lois Warner of Naples, Fla.; and three nephews, Harold Boyd Jr., and Roy Matthew of Van Wert and the Rev. Rick Matthew of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by a sister, Nellie Matthews Reid; and three brothers, Harold Boyd Sr., Lester Boyd and G.L. Roy Boyd. Mr. Boyd had retired as a truck driver for Howard Sober Trucking, Fort Wayne. He was a member of First Friends Church, Van Wert, where he had been Sunday School superintendent, a choir member and treasurer of the church. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II in England. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Revs. Rick Matthews, David Kinsey and Job Stagner officiating. June V. McKinley Kill, 46, of Elida, formerly of Spencerville, died the evening of April 29 at her residence. She was born Aug. 6, 1955, in Lima to Aloysius C. and Rose Mary (Elwer) Kill. She had been married to Gary R. McKinley, who survives in Spencerville. Other survivors include two sons, Jaret T. (Brenda Kay) McKinley and Jacob A. "Jake" McKinley of Spencerville; four sisters, Loretta D. Kill of St. Marys, Judith M. Kill of Decatur, Ind., Jane D. Kill of Columbus and Susan R. Hurless of Celina; five brothers, Leroy F. (Marcia) Kill of Venedocia, Jerome J. (Sherry) Kill of Monroeville, Ind., and Aloysius C. Kill Jr., Samuel L. (Laurie) Kill and Stanley J. (Kimberly) Kill of Spencerville; and a sister-in-law, Darlene Overmeyer of Sherwood. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Paige McKinley; and a brother, Lavern Kill. She worked for 23 years at St. Rita’s Medical Center. She was a member of the Harry J. Reynolds American Legion Post 191 Auxiliary in Spencerville. Ross officiating. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery. She was born July 13, 1917, in Lima to Charles H. and Pearl (Roeder) Erskine. She married Gerald "Babe" Dimond, who preceded her in death. Funeral services for Betty L. Stockton, 76, of Lima, who died 7:15 a.m. April 27 at St. Rita’s Medical Center, were held 2 p.m. today at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, the Rev. Wanda Werking officiating. Burial was in Salem Cemetery, Westminster. She was born Oct. 3, 1925, in Lima to Carl and Viola (Ladd) Stevens. On Jan. 1, 1964, she married Donald W. Stockton, who survives in Lima. Other survivors include two stepsons, Lee (Shirley) Stockton of Troy and Larry (Kandy) Stockton of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Ruth M. Humfleet of Lima and Bonnie V. Pence of Greenfield, Ind.; and two stepgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Auburn Leroy "Steve" Stevens; and a sister, Velma P. Webb. Mrs. Stockton was a homemaker. Mass of Christian burial for John A. Deffenbaugh, 79, of Marion, who died April 26 at his residence, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marion. He was born June 10, 1922 in Delphos to William B. and Agnes (Laudick) Deffenbaugh. On April 27, 1946, he married Elinor Herneise, who preceded him in death July 22, 1966. He then married Eleanor Dakowski, who survives in Marion. Other survivors include three daughters, Diane (David) Kohlhorst, Peggy (Daniel) Smith and Janet (Ray) Hock; three brothers, James (Mary) Deffenbaugh, Robert (Connie) Deffenbaugh and Thomas (Mary Ellen) Deffenbaugh of Delphos; two sisters, Jane (Elmer) Beckman and Dorothy Deffenbaugh of Delphos; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sister, Mary Showalter and Helen Shenk; and a brother, William C. Deffenbaugh; and a grandson, Timothy Smith. Mr. Deffenbaugh worked as yard master for Erie railroad in Marion from the time he returned home in 1945 from serving in the U.S. Army during World War II until his retirement. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. She was born Jan. 17, 1907, in Van Wert to William and Margaret M. (Vogt) Allemeier. On June 18, 1931, she married Robert W. Knapp, who preceded her in death May 11, 1983. Survivors include a son, Robert F. (Judy) Knapp of Dayton; a daughter, Marilyn (Ronald) Diener of Maumee; a brother, Ralph W. Allemeier of Orlando, Fla.; four grandchildren, Stephen (Christina) Knapp of Dayton, O. Susan (Brad) Boyd of Powell, Mark (Phyllis) Diener of Pittstown, N.J. and Ann (John) Bella of Perrysburg; eight great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Knapp had been a teacher in Delphos City Schools and had operated a private kindergarten. She was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and a graduate of Jefferson High School and Wittenburg College, where she received her teaching certificate. Gary Rogers, 56, of Van Wert, died in the early evening hours of April 26 near his residence. He was born Jan. 4, 1946, in Van Wert to Gordon O. and Phyllis J. (Cryer) Rogers. His mother survives in Van Wert. Survivors include a sister, Judy (Brad) Dotson of Middle Point; and a niece, Jennifer Springer of Middle Point; and a nephew, Jeff Evans of Middle Point. Mr. Rogers had been a lifetime farmer. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church of rural Van Wert, was a current member of the Van Wert County Farm Bureau, Van Wert Elks Lodge and the Van Wert Order of Eagles. On July 30, 1951, she married Herbert "Ben" Massman, who survives in Lima. Survivors also include a son, Rodney Massman of Lima; two daughters, Melinda (Robert) Glasco of Lima and Kimberly (Vernon) Clementz of New Boston, Mich.; a sister, Joanne (Kenneth) Basinger of Columbus Grove; three brothers, Darrell Cheney and Harold (Norma) Cheney of Lima and Ronald (Cora) Cheney of Chicago; an aunt, Leona "Babe" Biddinger; three stepgrandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Janie Leffel, 91, formerly of Kossuth, died 11:59 p.m. April 22 at Auglaize Acres Nursing Home, Wapakoneta. She was born June 19, 1910, in Logan Township, Auglaize County, to Fred and Mary (Foltz) Mees. On Dec. 21, 1928, she married Harley Leffel, who died Nov. 8, 1961. Survivors include a son, Robert E. (Lucille) Leffel of Spencerville; a sister, Louella Lenhart of St. Marys; two grandsons, Rex (Colleen) Leffel of Worthington and Ron (Kathy) Leffel of Spencerville; three stepgrandchildren, Teresa (Robert) Dillhoff of Elida, Roger (Jackie) Henderson of Plymouth, Ind., and Gayla Metzger of Spencerville; four great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren. Joseph Henry Coleman

Joseph Henry Coleman, 85, of Lima, died 6:30 p.m. April 20 at St. Rita’s Medical Center. He was born Jan. 9, 1917, in Lonaconing, Md., to James G. and Rebecca (Jenkins) Coleman. On March 19, 1966, he married Betty Van Ness, who survives in Lima. Other survivors include two daughters, Melody (Thomas "Chick") Schimmoller of Delphos and JoNell (Jim) Van Norman of Clinton, Wash.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth May. Mr. Coleman was a machinist by trade and was later self-employed in coin operated laundries and car washes. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54, Lima, Eagles Aerie 471, Delphos, and Fort Amanda Lodge 706 Free and Accepted Masons. He was a 32nd degree Mason. Corinne L. Granger
Corinne L. "Corky" Granger, 73, of Delphos, died 4:20 p.m. April 21 at Roselawn Manor Nursing Home, Spencerville. She was born June 13, 1928, in St. Louis, Mo., to Omer J. and Eleanor (Lockhart) Davin. On March 1, 1947, she married G. Thomas Granger, who survives in Delphos. Survivors also include a daughter, Shirley Karman of Lonsdale, Minn.; a stepbrother, Dean (Julie) Fermenick of Woodbury, Minn.; a stepsister, Roylene (Ed) Neuman of Duluth, Minn.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gayle Engle; a son-in-law, William Karman; a sister, Loretta LaTarte; a brother, Douglas Davin; and a niece Karen LaTarte. Mrs. Granger had been a dog obedience instructor for 22 years. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church; a member of Dog Therapy International; past corresponding secretary and treasurer at Lawton Ft. Sill Kennel Club, Lawton, Okla.; past treasurer and a charter member of Boston Terrier Club of North Carolina; past president of the Obedience Club of North Carolina, Asheville N.C.; past president of the Dames Club of the University of New Mexico, Alburquerque, NM.; current president and had served in the past as president of the Delphos American Legion Post 268 Auxiliary; District 2 Americanism Chairman of the American Legion Auxiliary; member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 3035, Delphos; member of the Catholic Ladies of Columbia Council 40, Delphos and Catholic Daughters of America, where she had been a vice-regent for two years; worked at the American Red Cross bloodmobile for 10 years; and was a poll worker for the Allen County Board of Elections for several years. Graveside services for Leon E. Brinkman, 91, of Spencerville, formerly of Trenton, Mich., who died April 20 at Roselawn Manor, Spencerville, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery, the Rev. Paul Heady officiating. He was born June 26, 1910, in Lima to George and Bertha (Martin) Brinkman. In 1935, he married Hazel Behm, who died Dec. 6, 1965. Survivors include three nieces, Paula Wade, Beverly (Glenn) Amstutz and Helen (Virgil) Dickman; and a nephew, Robert (Juaneta) Rahrig. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Gribler and Madeline Greulich; and a nephew, Dick Rahrig. Mr. Brinkman retired as an electrician from Allied Signal in 1968. On July 18, 1938, he married Harriet Long, who died May 20, 1989. Survivors include a son, Dana (Pam) Eaken of Antwerp; six daughters, Margaret (Walter) Womack of Antwerp, Shirley (Ron) Meyers of Sturgis, Mich., Marjorie McBride of Fort Wayne, Donna (Galen) Dettmer of Yoder, Ind., Rita (Richard) Lambert of Grover Hill, and Marcella (Robert) Blackmore of Payne; a brother, Robert Eaken of Toledo; two sisters, Joan (Val) Crabtree of Dayton and Martha (Loyal) Christensen of El Segunda, Calif; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. On April 25, 1934, she married Carl Langhals, who died July 22, 1984. Survivors include four sons, Elmer (Kathie) Langhals and Alvin (Debra) Langhals of Columbus Grove, Kenneth (Diane) Langhals of Delphos and Henry (Beth) Langhals of Columbus; five daughters, Sister Marie Langhals of Dayton, Ruth (Fred) Wilson of Paw Paw, Mich., Patricia (Herb) Niels of Libby, Mont., Julie Eggenton of Toledo and Kelly (Larry) Anderson of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, Othmar (Sally) Schroeder, Columbus Grove and Fred (Mary Margaret) Schroeder; two sisters, Cecilia Schroeder and Clara Langhals of Glandorf; 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Wilhelm Ebbeskotte
Wilhelm Ebbeskotte, 74, of Bad Iburg, Germany died March 25 [2002] after a long illness. Mr. Ebbeskotte was very active in cultural and group exchanges between Delphos and the German people in the Osnabruck area. He and his wife, Anni, visited Delphos several times and also hosted many visiting groups from Delphos. Mr. Ebbeskotte was a retired veterinarian. He is survived by his wife and their children. Funeral services were held April 2 in Bad Iburg, Germany.

Raymond E. Sackett

Private family graveside services for Raymond E. Sackett, 77, of Lima, who died 9:50 a.m. April 20 at his residence, were held today in Memorial Park Mausoleum, Lima, the Chaplain Richard Coon officiating. He was born Nov. 16, 1924, in St. Louis, Ill., to Ralph E. and Christine Ann (McClain) Sackett. On Feb. 28, 1983, he married Darlene A. Fisher, who survives. Other survivors include two sons, Jeffrey (Nancy) Sackett of Pensicola, Fla., and Jon (Barbara) Sackett of Pace, Fla.; a stepson, Mike Fisher of Lima; two daughters, Janet (Roger) Matea of Maryville, Ill., and Joan (Gary) Sickler of College Station, Texas; two stepdaughters, Joy (Vic) Nance and Melanie (John) Sheridan of Lima; 15 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Edward Sackett. Mr. Sackett had worked at Chrysler Car Assembly Plant in Fenton, Mich., as an industrial engineer, retiring in 1981. He came to Lima in 1982 to work on the MI tank at General Dynamics. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275, member and past president of Eagles Aerie 370, Lima, and a member of American Legion Post 96 and Moose Lodge 199, Lima. He was a graduate of McKendree College, Lebanon, Ill., and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 14th Infantry, 71st Division attached to Patton’s 3rd Armored Division.

Luebrecht, 92, of Fort Jennings, who died 9:25 a.m. April 18 at Calvary Manor, Glandorf, will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Jennings, the Rev. Tony Borgia officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He was born Aug. 5, 1909, in Cloverdale to John and Elizabeth (Kleman) Luebrecht. On Aug. 29, 1933, he married Wilma Geisken, who preceded him in death Jan. 10, 1937. He then married Agnes Rayman on Sept. 3, 1938. She survives in Fort Jennings. Other survivors include two daughters, Shirley (Joseph) Mesker and Elizabeth (Gale) Elwer of Fort Jennings; three sons, Dennis Luebrecht, Donald (Nancy) Luebrecht and Duane (Sharon) Luebrecht of Fort Jennings; a sister, Lucina Rayman of Lima; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Heitmeyer; a brother, Elmer Luebrecht; three sisters, Asella Meyer, Marie Meyer and Louise Luebrecht; and two grandchildren, Lisa Marie and Christina Ann Luebrecht. Mr. Luebrecht was a retired farmer and had worked for the B&O Railroad and trucking. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, was active in the National Farmers Organization and graduated from mechanical school in Cleveland. Perry G. Makris

Funeral services for Perry G. Makris, 85, of Lima, who died 10:45 a.m. April 17 at his residence, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, the Rev. J. Norbert Howe officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, with graveside military services conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275. He was born Feb. 4, 1917, in Van Wert to George and Pauline (Phillips) Makris. On Jan. 21, 1940, he married Elsie Kohn, who survives in Lima. Survivors also include three daughters, Kathy (Darold) Hefner of Lima, Georgia (Larry) Porter of Toledo and Debbie Makris of Upland, Calif.; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Makris was a security guard at Wells Department Store and Lima State Hospital, from where he retired in 1981. Rose officiating. Burial will be in Gethsemani Mausoleum, Lima. She was born Aug. 4, 1917, in Arcadia, Iowa, to Herman and Rose (Lamberty) Scherbring. On Jan. 18, 1939, she married Henry Ward Marble, who survives in Lima. Warnecke, 82, of Fort Jennings, who died April 18 at his daughter’s residence near Fort Recovery, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Delphos Veterans Council. He was born Nov. 22, 1919, in Allen County to Tony and Mary (Barlage) Warnecke. On Aril 17, 1947, he married Marjorie F. Baird, who preceded him in death July 11, 1996. Survivors include a son, Anthony (Louise) Warnecke of Delphos; three daughters, Patricia (Richard) Doonan of Chicago, Susan (Gary) Barto of Columbus Grove and Jane (Michael) Guggenbiller of Fort Recovery; a sister, Rita Langemeyer of Lima; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Alphonse and Louis Warnecke; four sisters, Emma Bockey, Florentine Klausing, Margaret Buettner and Bertha Klefas; and a grandson, Matthew Guggenbiller. Mr. Warnecke retired from Western Auto in 1985 after 30 years of service. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Delphos Knights of Columbus Council 1362 and the Walterick-Hemme Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3035. He was a World War II Army veteran serving as a staff sergeant receiving five bronze stars. Blanche Brenneman, 96, of Elida, died 1:10 p.m. April 17 at Lima Manor. She was born Nov. 5, 1905, in Elida to John M. and Anna (Good) Brenneman. Survivors include three brothers, Ralph Brenneman of Wakarusa, Ind., Si (Jean) Brenneman of Lima and Andy (Ada) Brenneman of Elida; two sisters, Clara Kauffman of West Liberty and Luella (Wendell) Miller of Elida; 29 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews and several great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Yoder; four brothers, Victor, Walter, Fred and John Brenneman; and three nephews. Ms. Brenneman retried from Holtzapple Poultry Farm had taught school and was a substitute teacher for some years. She was a member of Salem Mennonite Church, Elida, and its Mennonite Women’s Group. She was a graduate of Gomer High School and Goshen College with a bachelor’s degree in education. She enjoyed making comforters for others. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Salem Mennonite Church, the Rev. Mel Hathaway officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Paul Steinbrenner

Paul D. "Steinie" Steinbrenner, 74, of Delphos, died 4:20 p.m. April 16 at St. Rita’s Medical Center. He was born April 18, 1927, in Delphos to William Earl and Ida C. (Kloeppel) Steinbrenner. On June 5, 1948, he married Joan Steinbrenner, who survives in Delphos. Survivors also include a daughter, Jill Steinbrenner of Elida. He was preceded in death by a sister, Esther McCoy; and a brother, Eugene Steinbrenner. Mr. Steinbrenner retired from Putnam Stone, Ottawa, in 1993. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Lima Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, the Delphos Eagles Lodge and was a charter member of the Lima Area Radio Kontrol Society. He was a 1945 graduate of Jefferson High School. He was a Navy veteran, having served in World War II. He enjoyed his model airplanes, loved the Yankees and could fix anything. Pauline M. Odenweller, 81, of Delphos, died at 3:45 a.m. April 16 at St. Rita’s Medical Center. She was born Sept. 30, 1920, in Delphos to F.O. and Rose T. (Reindel) Adams. On Sept. 22, 1943, she married George F. Odenweller, who died Nov. 2, 2000. Survivors include a son, Joseph Odenweller of Delphos; three daughters, Elaine (Jim) Hogan of Curtice, Dr. Anne Odenweller of Baton Rouge, La., and Ellen (James) Gordon of Delphos; six grandchildren, Bruce, Daryl, Ryan and Brent Odenweller, Michael Johnson and Kurt Gordon; and five great-grandchildren, Ian and Lindsay Odenweller, Daemon and Josie Gordon and Nathan Johnson. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Wilcox. Mrs. Odenweller retired with her husband in 1988 from Odenweller Clothing and had also worked at Steele’s Automotive, the D.W.G. Cigar Factory and Neon Sign, Lima. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Catholic Ladies of Columbia, Council 84, the Amity Bridge Club, the Ohio and Allen County Right to Life, and was a former member of the Ohio Child Conservation League and the Delphos Art Association. Kathryn L. Bowers, 96, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Spencerville, died April 14 in Florida. She was born March 29, 1906, in Kenton to H. Clyde and Gertrude (Ewing) Long. On Dec. 26, 1931, she married George J. Bowers, who died Feb. 24, 1994. Survivors include a daughter, Anne B. (Robert) Wagner of Sarasota; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Long. Mrs. Bowers taught high school English in Morrow County near Tiffin and also at Spencerville and Shawnee schools. She was a 1924 graduate of Kenton High School and a 1928 graduate of Miami University at Oxford with a bachelor of science degree in education. While at Miami she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. She also assisted her husband in his law practice and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Ohio and National Teachers associations and a former member of the Clio Club and an honorary member of the Spencerville Library. Thomas E. Pentenburg, 70, of Lima, died 2:55 p.m. April 14 at St. Rita’s Medical Center. He was born July 17, 1931, in Lima to John J. and Willa Mae (Floyd) Pentenburg. On Nov. 17, 1956, he married Mary Margaret McGraw, who survives. Other survivors include a son, Thomas (Elizabeth) Pentenburg of Fort Wayne; two daughters, Lisa (Edward) Rettig of Lima and Ellen (Patrick) Dunnigan of Carmel, Ind.; two sisters, Catherine Weber of San Antonio, Texas and Jane (Robert) Falk of Lima; a brother, George Pentenburg of Lima; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne Marie Pentenburg; three sisters, Mary Bowman, Louise Pentenburg and Frances Rhine; and three brothers, John, Louis and Daniel "Butch" Pentenburg. Mr. Pentenburg worked at Westinghouse Small Motor as a customer service representative and retired after 37 years and as a realtor for Gooding Co. He served in the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Purple Heart and Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a member of the DAV. He was an active member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, where he served on the board of the Hanley House and was a visitation volunteer. He also volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry. He was a life member of the Lima Elks BPO 54 and graduated from St. Rose High School in 1949. Avanelle D. Mullady, 87, of Cridersville, died 5 a.m. April 14 at Otterbein-Cridersville. She was born Dec. 29, 1914, in Van Wert to Raymond G. and Ruby F. (Ausman) Holbrook. On April 7, 1939, she married John Thomas Mullady, who died Aug. 2, 1999. Survivors include two daughters, Deborah (Charlie) Leach of Mount Dora, Fla., and Pamela (James) Meacham of Jackson; three sisters, Claudia McAdams and Carol A. Jewell of Lima and Vernal Corson of Bluffton; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three nephews. Mrs. Mullady had worked at Bansbarger, Savage and Fisher as a bookkeeper and accountant. Prior to that she had worked 11 years as office manager at Deshler Insurance Agency. She was also a homemaker. She had been a Girl Scout Troop leader for 15 years, trained troop leaders was a day camp director and member of the board. She was active with DAR, DOV, the YWCA, the Allen County Historical Society, the Lima Convalescent Home Foundation, Central Christian Church, Christian Women’s Fellowship of CCC and the Adam County Genealogy Society and Senior Citizens.
