Bertha Maria Pollock, 80, of Van Wert, died 3 a.m. Aug. 14 at her residence. She was born Feb. 10, 1922, in Celina to Henry G. and Emilie (Lesko) Sennebogen. On March 31, 1945, she married Benjamin Leo Pollock Jr., who died Dec. 29, 1993. Survivors include a son, Jerry L. (Joy) Pollock of Van Wert; two sisters, Emma Devalk of Castro Valley, Calif., and Ida Fahey of San Leandro, Calif.; four grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Pollock had been a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Van Wert, where she taught Sunday school. She was also a member of Republican Women and a former member of the Alpha Omicron Chapter of the Omega Sigma Sorority. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Rev. Joachim Wilck officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert. Funeral services for Nancy Lee Browning, 67, of Lima, who died 1:10 p.m. Aug. 14 at her residence, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, the Rev. Doug Adams officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Lima. She was born Aug. 2, 1935, in Lima to Frank and Nellie J. (Baughman) Smith. On Sept. 11, 1964, she married Bobby Browning, who survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Bobbie (Bill) Toland of Lafayette, Ind., and Kindra (Tyce) Rinehart of Lima; a son, Kevin (Tammy) Kerr of Indianapolis; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Woody B. and Robert F. Smith. Mrs. Browning had been an X-ray technician and owner of Calico Corner Arts & Crafts Shop. She was a member of the American Registry of X-ray Technologists, the Lima Miniature Club, the National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts the Unfinished Kit Club and the Lima Pond Society. Charles F. Klaus

Mass of Christian burial for Charles F. Klaus, 68, of Delphos, who died 7:42 p.m. Aug. 14 at his residence, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Rev. Randy Giesige officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by the Delphos Veterans Council. He was born Feb. 20, 1934, in Venedocia to Frank and Helen Klaus. His stepmother, Rosemary Klaus, survives in Venedocia. On April 27, 1957, he married Lea Elwer, who survives in Delphos. Other survivors include three daughters, Sharon (James) Neu of Columbus Grove, Charlene (Kyle) Edwards of Elida and Yvonne (Lynn) Koenig of Delphos; three sons, Kevin (Teresa) Klaus and Richard (Janet) Klaus of Delphos and Michael (Susan) Klaus of Elida; a sister, Patricia Brandehoff of Tucson, Ariz.; four brothers, Thomas (Janet) Klaus of Landeck, Howard (Eileen) Klaus of Venedocia, Edward (Therese) Klaus of Delphos and Keith (Peggy) Klaus of Bartlet, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Rodney H. Klaus; and a sister, Clara K. Giesken. Mr. Klaus retired July 31 from the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Department after 21 years. Most recently he served as jail administrator for the Van Wert County Jail. He also owned and operated Klaus Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning for more than 30 years, was a Delphos Auxiliary police officer, patrolman from 1974 to 1981 and a Van Wert County Sheriff’s Department Auxiliary deputy from 1972 to 1974. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association, the Van Wert American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3035. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking and was a 1952 graduate of Spencerville High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, 1954-56, serving in Okinawa. Mark Seenarine officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. She was born Sept. 21, 1922, in Columbus Grove, to William H. and Laura (Meyers) Selhorst. On Nov. 28, 1938, she married Dale M. Degood, who preceded her in death Jan. 13, 2002. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Ferrall of Lavonia, Ga., and Sharon (Richard) Roethlisberger of Elida; two sisters, Mary Miller of Waynesfield and Alice Miller of Palmetto, Fla.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Austin F. "Bus" Miller, 91, of Middle Point, died 1:30 a.m. Aug. 14 at Van Wert County Hospital. He was born Aug. 6, 1911, in Washington Township, Van Wert County, to Edward and Hazel (Snyder) Miller. He married Alice Coombs, who died March 14, 1999. Survivors include a daughter, Betty Evans of Van Wert; three grandchildren, James (Lisa) Evans of Fort Jennings, Nancy (Phil) Wermer and Lori (Dana) Sealscott of Van Wert; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Karl Miller; and a great-grandchild, Jared Wermer. Mr. Miller was a retired farmer. William G. "Bill" Smith, 55, of Van Wert, died 10:58 p.m. Aug. 13 at Van Wert County Hospital. He was born Aug. 23, 1946, in Van Wert to William G. and Helen (Walser) Smith. On May 14, 1997, he married Karen Hessel, who survives in Van Wert. Survivors also include two sons, Jason (Anja) Smith of Stuttgart, Germany and Bryce Smith of Fort Wayne; two brothers, Denis (Lynn) Smith of Florida and Jerry (Nan) Smith of Van Wert; three sisters, Helen (Tom) Mangette of Haviland and Bonnie Crone and Rose (Gary) Ickes of Van Wert; and two grandchildren. Mr. Smith had worked for American Electric Power for 35 years, most recently as a meter electrician supervisor in Muncie, Ind. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Van Wert, and of the Utility Workers of America Union for 17 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Croy, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Pike Run Cemetery, Gomer. Mrs. Micha was born Aug. 20, 1918 in Gomer to John and Mary Ellen (Jones) Bourne. She married Owen R. Micha on July 3, 1941, who survives in Lima. Survivors include a son, John (Ilene) Micha of Westerville; two daughters, Janice Micha of San Fransico and Julia (David) Sims of Columbus; three grandchildren; a sister; Mildred Bourne of Gomer; and three brothers, Thomas Bourne of Scottsdale, Ariz., Richard Bourne of Cle Elum, Wash., and Charles Bourne of Lima. She was preceded in death by a grandson. Mrs. Micha was a homemaker and also worked at the Allen County Board of Elections. She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church for more than 55 years and sang in the choir. She was also a member of Westside Swim and Racquet Club and the Lima Elks Club. Mr. Grant was born Nov. 24, 1914 to William R. and Josephine Emma (Hull) Grant. Burial will follow in Ressurrection Cemetery, Delphos. Mr. Eggeman was born Sept. 30, 1911 to Ferdinand and Briggeta (Bendele) Eggeman. He married Agnes (Metzger) Eggeman July 18, 1933, who survives in Delphos. They were married for 69 years. Survivors include two sons; Donald (Mary) Eggeman of Columbia, Mo., and Raymond (Judy) Eggeman of St. Marys; three daughters; Rosemary Bayliss of West Jefferson, Helen (John) Pruden of Rockford, and Joann (Thomas) Baxter of Titusville, Fla.; a sister; Rita Few of Lima; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son; James Eggeman, a grandson; Robert Bayliss; five brothers; Gregory, Frederick "Fritz," Cletus, Lawrence, and Harold Eggeman; and a sister; Genevieve Eggeman. Mr. Eggeman worked for Ford Motor Company until he retired in 1974. He was also a farmer for many years. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Brittingham was born May 11, 1913 to William and Esther (Maine) Cattell. She married William F. "Bill" Brittingham on Nov. 26, 1933, who preceded her in death March 18, 1983. Survivors include three daughters; Billie Jo (Lee) Himmeger of Delphos, Judy Ann (Milt) Levy of Leesberg, Fla., and Sharon K. (Larry) Stevens of Cherryville, N.C.; two sisters-in-law; Isabelle Cattell and Mary Jean Smith; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother; Joe Cattell, a sister; Marguerite Faccenda, and a grandson; Jason Stevens. Burial will follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery. Alexander was born May 5, 1937 to Joseph and Thelma (Odenweller) Alexander. Survivors include three cousins, Donald (Joyce) Birkmeier of Cedarville, Mich., Barbara (Birkmeier) Axe of Toledo, and John (Charlotte) Birkmeier of Delphos. Alexander taught sixth-grade at St. John Elementary School for 40 years before retiring, and participated in the St. John’s After School Latch Key Program. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Delphos Bridge Club, the Delphos Garden Club and formerly of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Hemker, 78, formerly of Delphos, who died Saturday at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, Mich., will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Coldwater, Mich., the Rev. Brian Stanley officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Quincy, Mich., with military honors provided by American Legion Post #52. Mr. Hemker was born Dec. 22, 1923 in Delphos to Aloysius and Rose (Schmelzer) Hemker. He married Germaine Hempfling in 1946, who survives in Coldwater. Survivors include 10 sons, Dan (Marle), Tom (Kim) and Mike Hemker, of Coldwater, Tony (Rita), Charlie (Debbie) and Ed Hemker, of Bronson, Mich., Bob (Janice), Tim (Carol) and Jay (Christy) Hemker, of Union City, Mich., and Chris (Cindy) Hemker of Tekonsha, Mich.; three daughters, Jeanne (Lenny) Wannemacher of Ottoville, Beth (Ned) Yearling of Coldwater, Mich., and Marian Hemker of Hudson, Mich.; a brother; Bill Hemker of Delphos; 33 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Kenny Hemker, who died in 1952, two brothers and two sisters. Mr. Hemker moved to Coldwater, Mich. from Delphos in 1956. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a military policeman during World War II. He was a farmer and licensed plumber and formerly had worked for Wick Homes, in Coldwater, Mich. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church, a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus #2900 in Coldwater, a six-year member of the 4th Degree Fr. Cornellus Korst Assembly 0500 in Bronson, Mich., and a member of the Farm Bureau and the American Legion Post #52. He enjoyed baseball, fishing and playing cards. Douglas Stockton officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert. Mrs. Sidle was born Dec. 29, 1922 in Darke County, to Joseph and Maude (Hartman) Hart. She married Lowell L. Sidle, Sr., who survives in Van Wert. Survivors include four children; Lowell (Patty) Sidle, Jr., Michael (Carol) Sidle, and Judy (Jim) Reinhart, of Van Wert, and Linda Ball of Cincinnati; two sisters; Gladys Thompson of Versailles, and Virginia Wandle of Greenville; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mildred Jordan Pierce, 84, of Hernando, Fla., formerly of Lima, who died Aug. 6, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Elco Methodist Church. She was born May 25, 1918 in Elco, Ill., to Eugene and Eulah (Greer) Jordan. She married Homer Pierce, who died in 1986. Survivors include two sons, Michael L Coffey of Dunnellon, Fla., and Robert E. Coffey of Lima; a daughter, Mary Sue Walsh of Lima; a brother, Donald Jordan of Tamms, Ill., two sisters, Martha Kaufman of Tulsa, and Sue Ella Mowery of Tamms, Ill.; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. She was a former waitress. Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper Funeral Home in Inverness, Fla., and Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Charline R. Meyer

Memorial services for Charline R. Meyer, 85, of Lima, who died 11:58 p.m. Aug. 7 at St. Rita’s Medical Center, will be 2:30 p.m. today at her residence, the Rev. Larry J. Kaser officiating. The body will be cremated and the ashes scattered at a later date. Meyer was born March 21, 1917 in Chester Hill to L.C. and Nettie B. (Wall) Watts. She was married to John C. Meyer, who died September 1998. Survivors include three sons, Charles (Bonnie) Meyer of Bellingham, Wash., Robert Meyer of Lima, and James (Jackie) Meyer of Ada; four grandchildren, Brent Meyer, Bart Meyer, Jason Meyer and Patricia (Robert) Monroe; one great-grandchild, Siera Monroe; one brother, Richard G. Watts of Columbus; and two sisters, Marilyn Williams of Columbus, and Phyllis Reancy of Las Vegas. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Janice W. Sundsvold and Loris Newsom. Meyer was a member of the Epworth/Family of Faith United Methodist Church, Lima and a member of its choir for many years. She loved quiet living in her home, flowers, feeding birds, classical music, cats and old movies. She was a homemaker. E. Pauline Duggan, 93, of Belle Center, formerly of Delphos, died at 2:15 p.m. Aug. 7 at Logan Acres, Bellefontaine. She was born April 1, 1909 in Alabama, to William Blane and Dora Isabelle (Thacker) Farr. On April 2, 1928 she married W. Elmer Duggan, who died June 1983. Survivors include a sister, Mildred McMahon of Trenton, Ga.; five grandchildren, Janice (Ronald) Burden of Belle Center, Brenda (Robert) Borders of Gahanna, Joyce (Stephen) Warnecke of Huntsville, Jeannine (Stephen) Carder of Fort Ville, Ind., Scott (Monica) Seymour of Frankenmuth, Mich.; 11 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Geneva Elizabeth; two sisters, Ruby Bleckey and Nellie Ushry; and two grandchildren Jacqueline and William Seymour. Gerald F. "Jack" Welker

Funeral services for Gerald F. "Jack" Welker, 74, of Lima, who died at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 6 at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Siferd Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetary with military rites by VFW Post 1275. Mr. Welker was born Sept. 27, 1927 in Lima, to Gerald E. and Alice G. (Brown) Welker. He married Rosemary M. Page April 12, 1950, who preceded him in death Aug. 20, 1998. Survivors include three sons; David E. (Joyce) Welker of Lima, Terry L. (Deb) Welker of Delphos, and Gerald P. "Jerry" (Lori) Welker of Maumee; 10 grandchildren; Trisha Smith, Carri Moening, Emma Welker, Scott Welker, Kevin Welker, Stacey Denoyer, and Kegan Welker; and 14 great-grandchildren. Mr. Welker worked at Argonne Drug Store for 30 years. He was employed at the State Highway Department and retired as Assistant Manager and Doorman for the Lima Eagles Aerie 370. He was a member of the Lima Eagles Aerie 370 and he was on the Democratic Central Executive Committee in the 1950s and 60s. He was also a former member of Central Church of Christ. Billy E. Stripe

Funeral services for Billy E. Stripe, 72, of Van Wert, who died at 9:20 a.m. Aug. 7 at Van Wert County Hospital, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Rev. Douglas Stockton officiating. Burial will follow in Scott Cemetery, Scott. Mr. Stripe was born July 2, 1930 in Van Wert, to Cletus and Norma (Gribler) Stripe. He married Rea A. (Williamson) Stripe, who survives in Van Wert, on Aug. 20, 1950. Survivors include two children; Brent (Callie) Stripe of Van Wert and Beth Young of Holland, Mich.; a brother; Dale (Marie) Stripe of Van Wert; a sister; Harriet (Howard) Pearson of Florida; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Ann Ashbaugh. Mr. Stripe worked at Aeroquip Corporation, Van Wert, for 20 years before retiring in 1992. He also worked part time as a mower for Willow Bend Country Club, Van Wert, and formerly in construction. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church as well as the Elks Lodge, American Legion, Van Wert County Board of Directors, Crime Stoppers, Animal Protective League, and he helped with the food pantry at First United Methodist Church. Mass of Christian burial for Carl Dean Bowman, 76, of Lima, who died 6:49 a.m. Aug. 6 at Lima Memorial Hospital will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima. He was born Sept. 16, 1925 in Lima to Fredonia M. (Ramge) Bowman Bathtel and Floyd Chester Bowman. His father is deceased. On July 9, 1949 he married Mary E. (Pentenburg) Bowman, who died Sept. 30, 1991. Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca "Becky" Bowman of Lima; three sons, John C. Bowman of Delphos; David C. (Debbie) Bowman of Elida; Charles "Greg" Bowman of Elida; a foster child, Robert M. (Vicki) Mohler of Lima; six grandchildren, John (Diane) Bowman, Robert Bowman, Tonya Bowman, Kris (Bob) Straton, Austin Mohler, Victoria Mohler and 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Weeks of Springfield; and Donna May (Robert) Hadsell, Indianapolis, Ind. Bowman worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation as a timekeeper for the State of Ohio for 26 years. He graduated from Lima South in 1944 and joined the service during World War II serving in the Navy. He also attended Ohio Northern. He was a member of the Eagles Aerie #370, American Red Cross, Lima Senior Citizens, Monday Senior Citizens Bowling League, Birthday Group, AARP, Central Republican Committee, Navy Club of United States, Local Navy Club, Ship #9, Anvets Post #1, Life Member VFW Post 1275 Lima. He liked the Reds, Ohio State and the Cubs. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards. Goldie Phillips Crider

Funeral services for Goldie Phillips Crider, 96, of Findlay, who died 8:10 p.m. August 5 at Foxrun manor, Findlay, will be 1 p.m. Friday at Chamberlain -Huckeriede Funeral Home, the Rev. Richard Sheffield officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima. Crider was born Oct. 4, 1905 to Samuel and Lettie Moubray. She was married to George E. Phillips for 41 years. He died in 1965. She then married Frank C. Crider in 1969. He died in 1977. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Poland of Findlay; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by a son, Carl N. Phillips and a daughter, Dorothy Jessee and nine sisters and four brothers. Crider was a long distance supervisor at Lima Telephone Co., saleslady at Johnson’s Gift Shop and housemother for student nurses at Lima Memorial Hospital. She was a charter member of Lima Senior Center. She enjoyed her family, cooking, traveling, educational TV and books, movies, music and creative activities and word and card games. William R. Loetz

Mass of Christian Burial for William R. Loetz, Sr., 93, of Delphos, who died 2:30 a.m. Aug. 5 at his home, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Delphos, the Rev. James Couser officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Delphos. Mr. Loetz was born on July 31, 1909 in Howe, Ind., to William and Lena (Berns) Loetz. He married Vera (Strayer) Loetz on July 6, 1939, who survives in Delphos. Survivors include four daughters; Nancy (Norman) Vondran of Lima, Carolyn Mason of Greenup, Ky., Kathleen (David) Calvelage of Westerville, and Susan (Larry) Grothouse of Delphos; four sons; Carl (Rosalyn) Loetz of Jenera, Rodney (Charlotte) Loetz of West Unity, William Jr. (Maureen) Loetz of Chardon, and Joseph Loetz of Delphos; one niece; Marilyn Gladish; one nephew; James Loetz; 20 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Edgar, Lester, Martin and Oscar Loetz; one sister, Irene Houts; and one nephew, Richard Bures. Mr. Loetz was associated with his brothers in the Loetz Meat Market in Delphos, which closed in 1942. He was then employed at Lima Westinghouse in the lab for 22 years, retiring in 1974 as a general maintenance foreman. He was a member of Hope Lodge #214 Free and Accepted Masons, and a past master of the Hope Lodge in 1942. He was also a member of the Delphos Eagles #471 and St. Peter Lutheran Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, Superintendent and Councilman. Friends may call 2-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Harter and Son Memorial Chapel, Delphos, and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church. Daniel Yates

Daniel Yates, 61, of Fort Jennings, died Aug. 3. He was born Nov. 16, 1940 in Palatka, Fla., to Leon and Margaret (Langford) Yates. His mother survives in Jacksonville, Fla. On May 13, 1960 he married Marilyn (Sanders) Yates, who survives. Other survivors include two sons, Jerome Yates of Cleveland and Jeffery Yates of North Manchester, Ind.; two daughters, Kathleen Yates of Grover Hill and Debra (Yates) Grubaugh of Defiance; a sister, Fran (Guy) Lucier of Deloan Springs, Fla.; two brothers, Walter (Arlene) Yates of Ocee, Fla., and George (Sandy) Yates of Jacksonville, Fla.; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Yates, and a brother, Leon Yates. He was retired from the Army. He served as a MP in the Army March 1958-1963 serving in Korea and Germany. She was born Feb. 23, 1960 to Eugene and Patricia (Mueller) Vorst. Her mother survives in Middle Point. Survivors also include a son; Jonathan Barnes of Columbus; a daughter, Samantha Barnes of Middle Point, and their father, Dana Barnes of Convoy; three sisters; Cheryl (Barry) Dop of Apple Valley, Minn., Lisa Vorst of Corning, NY, and Maricia (Craig) Rodeheffer of Canton, Mich.; a brother; Chris (Sandy) Vorst of Middle Point; and a great-grandmother; Viola Mueller of Landeck. On May 18, 1946 she married Paul Brinkman, who died May 8. On Nov. 11, 1935 she married John Andrew Vastano, who preceded her in death June 1969. Survivors include two sons, John Vastano of Lima and James (Karene Rielly) Vastano of Lima; two daughters, Mary Jane Kennedy of Lima and Vicky (Thomas) Mullen of Colorado Springs, Co; a sister, Isabelle Rager of Lima; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, James (Dee) Kennedy; a brother, Charles Jordon, and two sisters, Ruth Ramsdail and Gertrude Cira. He married Elizabeth (Shackelford) Maxwell on July 27, 1939, who died in 1996. Survivors include two sons; Tony (Carol) Maxwell of Lima and David L. (Twila) Maxwell of Streetsburrow; three daughters; Dorothy Davis of Delphos, Yvonne Maxwell of Wapakoneta and Robin Maxwell of Delphos; two brothers; Ben (Bemie) Maxwell of Middles Borrow, Ky. and David M.
