Nellie J. Spanier, 95, of Delphos, formerly of Detroit, died this morning at Vancrest Health Care Center. She was born Oct. 11, 1908, in Putnam County, to George and Anna (Folk) Oglesbee. On April 26, 1930, she married Harold G. Spanier, who died April 25, 1980. Survivors include two sisters, Zella Young of Ashland and Genevieve Schroeder of Leipsic; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Spanier; two sisters, Emma Schroeder-Schimmoeller and Anna Marie Ricker; and three brothers, William, Henry and George Thomas Oglesbee. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Harter and Son Funeral Home, the Rev. David Howell officiating. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Cemetery in Detroit. Samuel Alvin Post

Samuel Alvin 'Al' Post, 86, of Findlay, formerly of Gomer, died at 9:35 p.m. Monday at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay. He was born March 24, 1918, in American Township, to Louie Crites and Margaret Augusta (Trust) Post. On Nov. 8, 1942, he married Frances Pauline Siebert, who died March 18, 1998. Survivors include a daughter, Margaret 'Peggy' (Robert J.) Grandbois Jr. of Findlay; two nieces, Cheryl (Jim) Sutherly and Karen (Boyd) Rader of Lima; and a grandson, Robert J. 'Bobby' Grandbois III of Findlay. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert E. Post. Mr. Post was owner and operator of the Gomer Farm Store for 31 years. He was an active member of Gomer United Church of Christ, served as 4-H adviser for 49 years, served on the Allen County 4-H Council and was a Junior Fairboard adviser representing boys 4-H since 1970, was Junior Fair Superintendent in Crop, Shop and Special Projects Department and was instrumental in the organization of the first Tractor Safety/Ag Mechanic Club. In 1992 he was named Friend of the 4-H, Outstanding Allen County Fair Supporter in 1993 and 1998 and was Allen County Fair Parade Marshall in 1986 and 2001. He was also active in the local Big Brothers/Big Sisters, receiving the Kathryn Rigali Memorial Award in 1987. He was also the recipient of the Book of Golden Deeds Award from the Lima Exchange Club in 1992. He was a charter member of American Grange 2584 and received the Certificate of Appreciation from the Allen County Pomona Grange in 1993. He was an Honorary Chapter Farmer with the Elida FFA and an honorary lifetime member of the Elida Young Farmers and member of the Lima Farmers Club. He was former president of the Allen County Implement Dealers Association, charter member of the Gomer Dad's Club and member of the Elida Band Boosters. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, the Rev. Brian Knoderer officiating. Burial will be in Allentown Cemetery, Allentown. Marcella E. Goedde
Marcella E. 'Sally' Goedde, 83, of Kalida, died at 1:27 p.m. on Friday at Calvary Manor Nursing Home, Glandorf. She was born Sept. 20, 1920, in Kalida to Herman and Anna (Kamphaus) Buss. On May 17, 1944, she married Richard W. Goedde, who died Oct. 25, 1993. Survivors include a son, William (Vickie) Goedde of Kalida; three daughters, Ann (Mel) Beckman, Alice (Larry) Ricker and Pat (Dan) Zeller of Kalida; two sisters, Rose Matthews of Bucyrus and Mildred (Mick) Pohl of Delphos; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Goedde; three brothers, Harry, Leo and Joseph Buss; five sisters, Mary Kramer, Veronica Drees, Agnes Meiering, Magdelena Schroeder and Monica Weis; and a great-granddaughter. Mrs. Goedde was a homemaker and a former employee of Philips in Ottawa and the Black Angus Restaurant in Kalida. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and its Rosary Altar Society. John S. 'Jack' Miller, 68, of Delphos, died at 4:40 a.m. Friday at Van Wert Manor. He was born July 21, 1935 in Urbana to Harry and Margaret (McNab) Miller. Survivors include a son, Robert 'Greg' Miller of Delphos; three daughters, Jennifer Miller of Delphos and Karen (Charles 'Ed') Sellers and Kim (James) Minnig of Fort Jennings; two brothers, Jeff (Mary) Miller of Delphos and Thomas Miller of Washington D.C.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a sister, Nora Jaffe. Mr. Miller was a tool and die maker in Toledo. He was a member of the Episcopalian Church in Urbana and a U.S. Army veteran. Marguerite E. Nichols, 89, of Delphos, died 6:15 a.m. Friday at Van Wert Nursing Home, Van Wert. She was born June 3, 1914 in Gary, Ind. to Richard and Zelma (Slentz) Doring. On March 2, 1934, she married Lawrence S. Nichols, now deceased. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Wright Cemetery, Van Wert County. Adell H. Lininger, 82, of Bowling Green, formerly of Fostoria, died at 5:20 a.m. Sunday at the Bowling Green Manor. She was born July 7, 1921, in Van Wert, to Edward and Claradell (Heim) Metzner. She was united in marriage on May 8, 1943 to O.J. 'Bill' Lininger, who died Sept. 7, 1959. Survivors include three sons, James W. 'Boe' (Sharyn) Lininger of Fostoria, John E. 'Jack' (Cindy) Lininger of Findlay and William M. 'Bill' Lininger of Roanoke, Va.; three daughters, Sister Mary Adell Lininger S.N.D. of Toledo, Carol J. Lininger of Bowling Green and Nancy L. Lambertson of Minnetonka, Minn.; a brother, Paul 'Vince' Metzner of Delphos, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lininger retired as secretary for St. Wendelin Church and Schools of Fostoria after 30 years of service where she was a member. She later became a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church of Bowling Green, and its Rosary-Altar Society. She was a member of Catholic Ladies of Columbia, Circle of Mercy, the Fostoria Woman's Club, the Bowling Green Senior Center and a volunteer at Wood County and Fostoria Community Hospitals. She enjoyed playing Bridge. On Feb. 11, 1956, he married Elizabeth J. 'Betty' Kramer, who survives. Other survivors include a son, William J. 'Bill' (Lila S.) Reynolds of Crestview Hills, Ky.; a daughter, Laurie A. (Larry Jr. 'Bill') Mason of Marysville; two sisters, Violet Ashton of Venedocia and Lela Barnes of Spencerville; a brother-in-law, Murry Griffin of Spencerville; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Merle Reynolds; and two sisters, Ruby Jones and Doris Griffin. Mr. Reynolds was a 1945 graduate of Spencerville High School and attended Griffin College in Van Wert for a year. He worked as a parts and service manager at the former Potbury Ford in St. Marys and retired in 1999 as a parts clerk with former Reineke-Mitchell Ford and Lincoln in Celina. Edward L. 'Eddie' Whetstone, 64, of Spencerville, died at 10 p.m. Saturday in the Cleveland Clinic. He was born Dec. 1, 1939, in Jennings Township, Van Wert County, to Clarence L. and G. Marcille (Zimmerman) Whetstone. Survivors include a brother, Gene (Janet) Whetstone of Spencerville; three sisters, Vonda (Max) McMichael of Spencerville, Danelda (Paul 'Jim') Roberts of Wapakoneta, Neita (Gene) Border of Spencerville and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Whetstone was employed at Progressive Stamping in Ottoville. was a 1957 graduate of Spencerville High School and attended the Northwestern Business College in Lima for two years. He had worked 20 years for Babcock and Wilcox Boiler Construction Company and had worked at Findlay Industries in Ohio City. He was also a school bus driver at the Spencerville Schools. Jones on Nov. 26, 1947, who survives in Gomer. Other survivors include a son, Gary (Nancy) Jones of Fort Jennings; two daughters, Pam Holden of Lima and Judy (Kevin) Webb of Sylvania; two brothers, George (Dottie) Patton of Delphos and Lloyd Patton of Lima; two sisters, Mary Ann Dunlap of Delphos and Maxine Custer of Lima; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by an infant son. Mrs. Jones attended Delphos Jefferson Schools and graduated from Gomer High School. She retired from the Commercial Bank (Delphos and Gomer branches) where she worked as a teller. She had formerly sold Avon and Tupperware products. She was a member of Gomer United Church of Christ. Joseph H. Fischer, 91, of Wapakoneta, died at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday at Auglaize Acres. He was born March 1, 1913, in Delphos, to Benedict J. and Rosa (Pothast) Fischer. On April 12, 1939, he married Esther F. Kimmet, who died Aug. 26, 2003. Survivors include three sons, Ronald (Alice) Fischer and Thomas (Mary) Fischer of Wapakoneta and Harold Fischer of Naperville, Ill.; a daughter, Sharon (Dennis) Dunlap of Bluffton; a son-in-law, Carvel Steinke of Maineville; a brother, Francis (Jeanette) Fischer of Delphos; a sister, Martha Pohlman of Delphos; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Steinke; four brothers, John, Leo, Clarence and Richard Fischer; and three sisters, Clara Wrasman, Mary Renner and Viola Elwer. Mr. Fischer was a farmer. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta, and its Holy Name Society and Knights of Columbus Council 1272. Eleanor E. Wannemacher, 82, of Ottoville, died at 3:55 p.m. Wednesday at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey, Mich. She was born April 13, 1922, in Delphos, to Otto and Cora (Fecker) Pohlman. On Aug. 25, 1952, she married Lavern S. 'Bunk' Wannemacher, who survives. Other survivors include a son, Terry J. Wannemacher; a brother, Earl (Esther) Pohlman of Delphos; two sisters, Ethel Schwinnen of Delphos and Imogene (Robert) Ellerbrock of Ottawa; a sister-in-law, Rosemary Pohlman of Delphos; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Pohlman; a sister and brother-in-law, Rosemary and Hubert Noonan; and a brother-in-law, Richard Schwinnen. Mrs. Wannemacher was a homemaker. Lowell 'Harvey' Himmeger, 65, of Bullhead, Arizona, formerly of Delphos, died at 12:40 a.m. Monday at his uncle's residence in Delphos. He was born Feb. 22, 1939, to Harvey and Martha (Moffit) Himmeger. On May 28, 1970, he married Opal 'Marie' Himmeger, who preceded him in death. Survivors include a sister, Nancy Fiedel of Florida; and stepmother, Lola Himmeger. He was preceded in death by a sister, Nanette Nagel; and maternal grandparents Homer and Thelma Buzard. Mr. Himmeger retired from Southern California Edison, Laughlin, Nev. He enjoyed archery, hunting, boating and rode motorcycles for many years. Sylvester J. Birkemeier, 87, of Glandorf, died at 12:40 a.m. Tuesday at St. Rita's Medical Center. He was born Aug. 8, 1916, in Kalida, to Bernard and Philomena (Gerding) Birkemeier. Survivors include a brother, Joseph Birkemeier; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Cornelius, Amos, Andrew and Alphonse Birkemeier; and a sister, Mary Birkemeier. Mr. Birkemeier was a retired farmer. Her mother survives in Delphos. On Aug. 26, 2002, she married Gerald Stephen Johnson, who survives in Newberry. On April 6, 1945, she married Warren C. Flick, who survives in Delphos. Other survivors include two sons, Larry (Janice) Flick of Gomer and Michael (Kathleen) Flick of Columbus; a sister, Marilyn J. Userman of Piqua; four grandchildren, Bryan Flick and Marty Flick of Columbus, Tisha (Rex) Crites of Germany and Brandon Flick of Hawaii; and one great-grandchild. Ruth A. Jones, 75, of Anderson, Ind., died May 6 at Millers Merry Manor in Chesterfield, Ind. She was born Sept. 17, 1928, in Waterman, Ill., to James W. and Jennie (Evans) Fulks. She was married to Herbert C. Jones, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Jones was the first female carrier to retire from the U.S. Postal Service after 22 years of service. She was a member of the Lindberg Road Church of Christ and the National Association of Letter Carriers. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, camping and listening to country music. Lois V. Hilty

Lois V. Hilty, 66, of Findlay died at 10:15 a.m. Thursday at her residence in Ottoville. She was born March 22, 1938, in Findlay, to Richard R. and Helen E. (Hoker) Ward. Her mother survives in Findlay. She had been married Richard Roby Jr., who preceded her in death. She then married Robert J. Hilty on Aug. 30, 1979, who is also deceased. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, 205 W. Sandusky St., Findlay, the Rev. Anthony Borgia officiating. Burial will follow at Knollcrest Gardens, east of Findlay. Eben J. Poole

Eben J. Poole, 17, of Kalispell, Mon., died at 9:39 p.m. Wednesday from injuries sustained in a car-pedestrian accident. He was born June 12, 1987, in Hampstead, Md., to Dennis and Mary (Morrel) Poole, who both survive. Other survivors include two sisters, Katie and Elizabeth Poole of Kalispell; six brothers, Issac (Kristy) Poole of Nashville, Tenn., Raine (Judith) Poole of Granprairy, Alberta, Canada, Nick (Leslie) Poole of Elida and Sam, Adam and Zachary Poole of Kalispell; paternal grandfather, Pete Morrel of Delaware, Md.; stepmother, Rita Poole; and one niece and nephew. He was preceded in death by two paternal grandparents and one maternal grandmother. Mr. Poole worked with his brother at Triple C Construction during the summer doing concrete work. He attended the youth program at Lima Community Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed playing tennis and guitar, wrestling, jogging and loved children. Jason K. Mathewson, 16, of Marysville, died Monday from injuries sustained in a car accident. He was born Jan. 13, 1988, in Bellefontaine, to Mike and Kim Mathewson, who survive. Other survivors include a sister, Krista Marie Mathewson of Marysville; grandparents R. Kent (Mary) Mathewson and Mary Feam of Ada; two aunts, Tina (Michael) Rettig of Marion and Penni (Ryan) Kloeppel of Columbus Grove; two uncles, Bruce (Cindy) Ream of Rawson and Robert J. (Amy) Mathewson of Delphos; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Jerry Ream. Mr. Mathewson was a sophomore at Marysville High School, where he was a member of the FFA. He attended Calvary Baptist Church and was involved with the 'Youth in Action' fellowship group. He enjoyed trapshooting, hunting, fishing and trapping and was an avid fan of Ford cars. Jack Binnion, 92, of Venedocia, formerly of Sims, Ind., died at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at his residence. He was born Feb. 15, 1912, in Tennessee, to E.H. and Bertha (Smalling) Binnion. On May 3, 1935, he married Ida M. Minix, who survives in Venedocia. Other survivors include two sons, Harold Binnion of Green Town, Ind., and Billey Binnion of Rockford, Ill.; three daughters, Shirley (Jack) McCarter of Green Town and Joyce (Dean Conkling) Maynard and Pat (Jim) Hodgson of Delphos; three sisters, Mildred Gosnell, Lois Gosnell and Lillian (Bob) Pearcey; 16 grandchildren, Marcia Ayers, Renita Rowland, Tony McCarter, Connie DeSpain, Bonnie Draper, David McCarter, Jerry Mooneyhan, James Gibson, Theresa Putnam, Doug Binnion, Donnie Binnion, Eric Binnion, Jason Binnion, Joey Binnion, Kris Briggs and Lori Ellis; 31 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two children, Lewis J. and Peggy Binnion; a brother, Homer Binnion; a sister, Gertie Garman; and two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mildred McKinley, 87, of Delphos, died at 6:30 a.m. Sunday at Vancrest Health Care Center. She was born May 2, 1917, in Continental, to Albert and Bertie (Fought) Harpster. Florence M. Steiner, 93, of Mendon, died at 5:15 a.m. Tuesday at her daughter's residence. She was born Jan. 31, 1911, in Van Wert County, to Alva and Mary E. (Markley) Adams. On Oct. 30, 1933, she married Clifford P. Steiner, who died Oct. 2, 1995. Survivors include two sons, Dale E. (Irene) Steiner of Wapakoneta and Jerry L. (Elaine) Steiner of Mendon; two daughters, Alice (Bill) Nichols of Lima and Mary Lou (Bernard) Beckman of Delphos; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Weimert and Zelma (Robert) Henderson of Florida and Betsy Steiner of Pandora; six grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and eight step-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Adams; a sister, Eunice Oglesbee; and a step-great-grandson, Scott Hegemier. Mrs. Steiner was a homemaker. She attended Ross Church of the Brethren in Mendon and loved to bake molasses cookies for her family and play scrabble. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at W.H. Betty J. Leininger, 82, of Delphos, died Sunday at Vancrest Health Care Center. She was born Dec. 6, 1921, in Galion, to William and Edith (Kodger) Rinehart. She married Neil Leininger, who died December 1990. Survivors include two sons, Jeff Leininger of Piqua and Jack (Jane) Leininger of Delphos; a daughter, Jill Leininger of Patchogue, N.Y.; a brother, Richard Rinehart of Delphos; and six grandchildren, Adam, Andy, Jenni, Jodi, Jay and Jordan Leininger. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Rolland and Don Rinehart. Mrs. Leininger was a bank teller at People's National Bank. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and Eastern Star. Beatrice Fischer, 83, of Delphos, died at 2 p.m. Sunday at Vancrest Health Care Center. She was born April 24, 1921, in Delphos, to Albine and Teresa (Wrasman) Elwer. On October 1, 1949, she married Leo M. Fischer who preceded her in death on July 10, 1997. Survivors include four sons, James (Jane) Fischer, Charles (Sherry) Fischer and Edward (Vickey) Fischer of Delphos and Roger (Joyce) Fischer of Dayton; a daughter, Helen (Klaus) Bauch of Covina, Calif.; a brother: Richard Elwer of Delphos; a sister, Rita (Omer) Pothast of Delphos; and 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Elwer; and two sisters-in-law, Pauline Elwer and Viola Elwer. Mrs. Fischer was employed at Fischer Plumbing and Heating. She was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. She was a member of the Delphos Catholic Ladies of Columbia Council 40 and the Altar Rosary Society. She had also volunteered for the Delphos Thrift Shop and delivered for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed reading and needlework. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Delphos. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. On July 17, 1945, she married Cyril M. 'Skeeter' Weber, who preceded her in death on June 7, 1991. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, and its Altar Rosary Society, and a member of the Ottoville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Auxiliary. She loved to cook, crochet and iron. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Ottoville. On Oct. 11, 1952, she married David W. Jones, who preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Richard (Terri) Jones of Venedocia; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Rosemary Hoffman. Mrs. Jones was secretary at Jonesco Elevator, Venedocia, retiring after 30 years. She was also a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Private graveside services are at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John Cemetery, the Rev. Thomas Gorman officiating. Preferred memorials are to St. John's or the Venedocia Library Branch.
