Marion E. Ingram
Mrs. Marion E. Ingram, 73, of Middletown, died Monday, June 19, 2000, at Hawthorn Glen Nursing Home.
She was born on April 26, 1927, in Middletown, the daughter of Oscar Higgins and Ethel (Bauer) Higgins. She worked as a clerk at the Elder-Beerman store. Mrs. Ingram was a member of the Trenton Christian Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Judith Stewart of Middletown and Lorie (husband Jim) Childers of Middletown; three sons, George R. Ingram Jr., Thomas B. (wife Lena) Ingram and Clarence E. Ingram, all of Middletown; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marjorie Nickell of Middletown and Donna Riggs of Trenton; and a brother, Oscar B. Higgins Jr. of Carlisle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Riley Ingram in 1984; her parents; a granddaughter, Renee Isom; and a great-grandson, Austin Rains.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Hopkins officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery.

Dorothy J. Keith
Mrs. Dorothy J. Keith, 80, of Middletown, passed away Monday, June 19, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
She was born in Dayton, Ohio, on June 30, 1919, and lived in this area for most of her life. Mrs. Keith was an antique dealer at Dot and Jim's Antiques for 32 years. She was a member of the Mayfield Fire Department Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Ethel Riggs; and sisters Marie Tischbein, Helen Vining and Frances Pfabe.
She leaves her husband of 58 years, James P. Keith; a daughter, Karen Lee Miller (Rufus) of Middletown; a son, John J. Keith (Cheryl) of Middletown; three grandchildren, John M. Keith, Jenny M. Keith and Missy J. Miller; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Jackie and Mike Roach of Syracuse, Ind., and Peggy Guido of Pembroke Pines, Fla.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home. Interment will be in Butler County Memorial Park in Trenton.

Larry W. Lain
CARLISLE -- Larry W. Lain, 61, of 8643 Martz-Paulin Road, passed away Monday, June 19, 2000, at Southview Hospital.
He was born on Dec. 24, 1938, in Middletown, Ohio, the son of Ross and Thelma Lain. Mr. Lain was a sheet metal mechanic for General Electric Co., retiring in 1993. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of the Carlisle Lions Club and Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was an avid golfer who loved sports such as hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his loving wife, Sue, and children and grandchildren: a daughter, Carla, and her husband, Ira Smith, of Suffolk, Va., and a son, L. Andy, and his wife, Jamie Lain, of Carlisle; his father, Ross Lain of Carlisle; and a brother, Darroll, and his wife, Judy Lain, of Gratis. He was also blessed with six grandchildren, Jody, Andrea and David Lain, Courtney and Courey Dellerba and Luke Smith; and an aunt, Evelyn Elkin of Centerville.
He was a loving and caring man with many friends and relatives, plus several nieces, nephews and a special aunt.

Bette McFall
HAMILTON--Mrs. Bette McFall, 80, of Hamilton, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at Tri-County Extended Care Center.
She was born on Jan. 20, 1920, in Hamilton, Ohio, the daughter of Fred and Ruth (Ruwe) Jones.
She is survived by a son, Joseph Goldrick of Middletown; a brother, Frederick (Dorothy) Jones of Hamilton; a sister, Elaine Hunter of Middletown; a grandson, Jacob Goldrick of Middletown; and two good friends, Leah and Lillian.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. McFall Jr. in 1988, and a brother, Warren Jones.

Frank D. McGuire
FRANKLIN--Frank D. McGuire Jr., 75, of 4034 Pennyroyal Road, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at his residence.
He was born on June 17, 1925, in Stacy Fork, Ky., the son of Frank D. and Printha (Lewis) McGuire. He settled in Franklin, Ohio, in 1953 where he spent his entire adult life. Mr. McGuire was employed with Kits Toy Shop for 14 years and was a custodian for the Centerville city schools for 16 years, retiring in 1983.
He was a member of the Eagles Lodge 528 in Middletown and was a Free Pentecostal Holiness Christian.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Beulah Prater and Lavodise Maze; and two brothers, Genis Ray and an infant brother.
He is survived by his wife, Norma (Hunt) McGuire, with whom he celebrated his 54th wedding anniversary on June 8, 2000; two daughters, Wilma L. Molisse, and her husband, Tony, of Springboro, and Eva M. Klein of Franklin; a grandson, Kevin B. Klein of Miamisburg; four brothers, James of Berea, Ky., and John, Flave and Hansel, all of Franklin; three sisters, Gladys R. Caudill of Franklin, Nell Kandas of Newport, N.C.. and Tressie Patrick of Winchester, Ky.; and many other loved ones and friends by whom he will be sadly missed.
Frank gave his heart to God in December, 1999. So, our loss is heaven's gain.

Ray A. Miller
Ray A. Miller, 77, of Middletown, died Friday, June 23, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
He was born June 17, 1923, in Zanesville and lived in Middletown for 42 years. Mr. Miller served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a barber at Miller's Barber Shop and a real estate broker at Ray Miller Real Estate. He was a member of Lincoln Lodge 693, Processor 367 Eastern Star, Valley of Dayton Scottish Rite, Antioch Shrine and Orientals, VFW 3809, Eagles, Moose Lodge, Kentucky Colonels, a Butler County Sheriff appraiser and deputy, a member of the planning board for the city of Middletown, the DAV and American Legion 218.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Meritt Miller and Thelma (Songer) Miller; his first wife, Velma Miller, in 1991; his second wife, Jean Miller, in 1993 and a brother, Oscar Miller, in 2000.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Johnson (James) of Dayton and Betty O'Neal of Simpsonville, SC; two grandchildren, Jennifer O'Neal of Simpsonville and David Johnson of Dayton; a brother, Clarence Miller of Centerville and a special friend, Glada Crank and her children.

William D. Nixon
Middletown native William D. "Bill" Nixon, 69, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, in Poquoson, Va., where he had recently moved with his wife, Nancy.
Bill was born in Middletown, Ohio, the son of the late William Donald Nixon Sr. and Prudence (Fink) Nixon. He graduated from West Elkton High School in 1948 and from Miami University of Ohio in 1952.
Among his favorite memories was Ohio basketball. He played for West Elkton High School when it won the 1948 Preble County basketball championship. He was the leading scorer in the tournament. He played on the All-County Team in 1947 and 1948. A three-time all-stater, he attended Xavier University for two years on a basketball scholarship before finishing his degree at Miami. He went on to teach at Gratis High School and served as its coach, leading the team to a 1952-53 league championship. He later went to teach and coach at Gettysburg and Versailles High Schools.
Bill made his career with NASA as chief of the Elementary and Secondary Programs Branch in Washington, D.C. He was closely associated with the Space Mobile Program and Teacher in Space Program. Prior to coming to NASA Headquarters, he was chief of educational programs at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida for a number of years. He was recognized for his achievements in educational TV, having conducted a statewide program entitle, "Exploring Science," which was presented to more than 80,000 students in the 1950's.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Nancy; a daughter, Valerie Nixon, and her husband, Larry, of Columbus, Ohio; a son, Mark, and his wife, Sandi, of Poquoson, Va.; a daughter, Leanne and Scott of Silver Springs, Md.; four grandchildren, Darcy, Amanda, Caitlin and Eric; a brother, Chuck, and his wife, Ginny, of Middletown, Ohio; two sisters, Rosemarie Sheley of Middletown and Ruthann Hartbarger, and her husband, Ronnie, of West Elkton; nine nieces and nephews; and two aunts, Helen Stansell of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Ruby Billett of Franklin, Ohio.

Tom Sandlin
Middletown native Tom Sandlin, 54, of Monterey, Tenn., passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at his home in Monterey.
He was born in Middletown, Ohio, on Feb. 17, 1946. Mr. Sandlin was an alderman with the City of Monterey, a member of the Victory Christian Center and an employee of Textron Industries in Nashville, Tenn.
He is survived by his wife, Deb (Jackson) Sandlin of Monterey; two daughters, Dianna Cox and Megan Sandlin, both of Monterey, Tenn.; two sons, Tommy Sandlin of Cookeville, Tenn., and Matt Sandlin of Monterey; his parents, Mary Lou and Ralph King of Carlisle, Ohio; two grandchildren, Gage and Kaylee; a brother, Danny Sandlin of New Orleans, La.; and two sisters, Judy Carpenter and Kathy Wilson, both of Franklin, Ohio.

Betty C. Shaffer
Mrs. Betty C. Shaffer, 76, of Middletown, died Monday, June 19, 2000, at the Willow Knoll Retirement Community.
She was born in Middletown, Ohio, on Dec. 23, 1923, to Edward and Thelma (Klein) Rathbun. Mrs. Shaffer was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She worked as an executive secretary for 44 years at Sorg Paper Co., retiring in 1987. Betty was a member of the Forest Hills Country Club, a former member of the National Secretary Association, and member of the American Business Women's Association. She had also volunteered with the American Red Cross at Middletown Regional Hospital.
She is survived by her husband, Everett L. Shaffer of Middletown; a sister, Sandra (Mitch) Rosenholtz of Columbia, Mo.; and a niece, the Rev. Cathy E. Rosenholtz of Jamaica, Queens, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a niece, Debra Rosenholtz.

Denny J. Smith
CARLISLE--Denny J. Smith, 74, formerly of Carlisle, Ohio, presently of Crescent City, Fla., passed away peacefully and unexpectedly Wednesday, June 21, 2000.
He was born on Dec. 5, 1925, in Franklin, Ohio, to Jesse L. and Mary Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lilly and Leva Marie Smith; and a brother, Vernon Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marjorie; his loving children Kathy (Jerry) Day, Janie (Dalen) Jackson, Deneane (Tom) Egleston, and Jeff (Debbie) Smith; 11 grandchildren, Tammy Lanoie, Amy Matthews, Jerri Martin, Jenni Moore, Matthew Anderson, Dalena Jackson, Tracy Kirkpatrick, Kristy Smith, Joe Smith, Jamie Tutt and Jackie Williams; seven great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Bradley Gilbert, Emily Lanoie, Randi and Donovan Martin, Devon Tutt and Laura Moore; and many beloved friends.
Mr. Smith was an avid golfer and an honorary lifetime member of Miami Valley Golf Course Superintendents Association. He was a former longtime member of the Franklin Golf Course and was presently a member of Live Oak Golf and Country Club in Fruitland, Fla. He was a World War II veteran and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Daytona Beach, Fla., and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Moose Local 1641 in Crescent City, Fla.

Mrs. Grace Smith, 70, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at the Franklin Ridge Nursing Home.
She was born in Buckhorn, Ky., and was a longtime resident of Franklin and Dayton. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Johnson Baptist Church in Buckhorn, Ky.

John Stamper
John Stamper, 72, died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at IHS at Carriage by the Lake, Bellbrooke.
He was born in Buckhorn, Ky., the son of the late George and Maud Stamper. John was a member of the Franklin V.F.W. Post 7596, American Legion Post 149 and the Fraternal Eagles in Franklin.
He is survived by brothers, Fred Stamper of Buckhorn, Ky., and Frank Stamper of Franklin, and sisters, Polly Rose Brogan of Miamisburg, Mary Ann Sparks of Buckhorn, Donna Faye Dawe of Duncan, British Columbia, and a half-sister, Melinda Turner of Booneville, Ky.
He was preceded in death by brothers Ford Stamper and Bud Stamper.

Leon "Baldy" Taylor
Leon Taylor, 66, was called to a final peaceful rest in the bosom of his Lord and Master on Thursday, June 22, 2000, from Middletown Regional Hospital.
Leon was born to the late Joe Taylor and Mary Brown Taylor on March 4, 1934, in Middletown. He joined Second Baptist Church and was baptized at a very early age and he continued to be faithful.
He attended the Middletown school system and graduated from Middletown Senior High School in 1952. After graduating, Leon began his career at Armco Steel Co., where he worked for 40 years before retiring in 1992. During the same period, while he was employed at Armco, he established his own personal business, Taylor's Janitorial Service, where he hired people who he felt he could get on the forward track of life.
Leon served his church, fraternities and community beyond the call of duty. He was always ready and willing to help at all times in whatever capacity requested. He was a member of TriedStone Lodge 83, F&AM, PHA in Middletown, Miami Consistory 26 and Amer Temple 107. He received the honorary degree of a past potentate in 1996 and the following year he was inducted into the Legion of Honor at the 104th Imperial Council Session on Aug. 19, 1997.
Leon was an honorary member of the Temple Beth Shalom. A golden apple has been placed upon the "Tree of Life" at the temple with his name engraved on it.
Leon was preceded in death by his father, Joe Taylor; two brothers, James Preston and Eddie Hooks and two sisters, Martha Preston Steele and Deborah Preston.
He leaves to cherish her memory his loving and very devoted wife, Lois Jean; two sons, Steven Benet (Lonetta) and Gregory Thomas Taylor; one daughter, Judy Lynn Davis; his mother, Mary Brown Preston; one sister, Lois Preston, all of Middletown; one brother, David Preston of Denver; four granddaughters, LaShawn Christian Taylor, La Toya Lynn Davis, Danielle Victoria Frazier Taylor and Kimberly Cassandra Ann Davis, who he named; one great granddaughter, Asyla Benet Taylor; a special nephew, who he loved and treated as a son, James Wilson and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and numerous devoted friends.

Glenn M. Thomas
Glenn M. "Garbo" Thomas, 49, of Middletown, Ohio, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2000, at his residence.
He was born on July 10, 1950, in Falls Church, Va., but had lived most of his life in the Middletown area. Mr. Thomas was employed as a millwright at Armco/AK Steel Co. for 31 years.
He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Gail (Fausnaugh) Thomas; a son, Chad Thomas, and his wife, Jihan, of Columbus; his parents, Bruce M. and Fran (Hilton) Thomas of Middletown; a sister, Linda Mull, and her husband, Larry, of Middletown; various aunts, uncles and cousins; and many friends.

Melvin Tipton
Former longtime Middletown resident Melvin Tipton, 63, of New Port Richey, Fla., died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Fla.
He was born on May 6, 1937, in Caney, Magoffin County, Ky., the son of Warren and Sarah (Ferguson) Tipton. Mr. Tipton was a retired maintenance worker. He had worked for Cinergy Power Co. in Middletown, Ohio, and also for Withlacooches River Electric Co. in Florida. He moved to New Port Richey, Fla., from Middletown in 1992.
He attended the Church of Christ and was a member of Moose Lodge 501 in Middletown.
Among his survivors are his wife, Dora E. Tipton of New Port Richey; four sons, Marty Tipton of Lexington, Ky., Joseph Tipton of Middletown, Ohio, Rick Miller of Fairfield, Ohio, and Rob Miller of Trenton, Ohio; a daughter, Melva Kim Blaylock of Middletown; four brothers, Marvin Tipton of Sebring, Fla., Edward and Walter Tipton, both of Middletown, and Ray Tipton of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Jayette Lewis of Columbus, Ohio; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

John 'Jack' Tracy
FRANKLIN -- John "Jack" Tracy, 71, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2000.
He was a lifetime resident of Franklin. Jack was a dedicated attorney for 26 years in Franklin and served as a municipal court judge of Franklin for 15 years. He was the probate-juvenile judge of Warren County for six years. Jack, a forthright attorney and judge, provided many caring and conscientious years to the justice system in Warren County. He was an active member of the Lion's Club and Franklin Area Historical Society. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Church in Franklin. Jack received his law degree from the University of Cincinnati, which he attended on a full football scholarship.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rubye Tracy.
He is survived by a loving and devoted wife, Anna (Long) Tracy, of 27 years; two daughters, Patricia Snider and husband Bob and their three children, Joey, Anna and Emily, of Franklin and Teresa Collins and son, Timmy, of Centerville; one son, Steve Hart and wife Sharon and their two children, Chad and Michelle, of West Carrollton; a brother, Louis Tracy and wife Estelle of West Carrollton; and two nephews, John and Guy and two nieces, Bridget and Mary.

Jack was a kind and gentle man who positively influenced many lives. He will always be loved and missed by all family and friends.
Hayden Turner
Hayden Turner, 69, of Middletown, died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at Kettering Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 14, 1930, in Cromona, Ky., and had lived in Middletown since 1945. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Turner was a machine installer for General Motors in Dayton for 30 years before retiring in 1987.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Ona Turner.
Survivors include a brother, Glen Turner (Shirley) of Middletown; two sisters, Addie Maddox and Lenora Hydler (Robert), both of Middletown; a loving and devoted friend, Artie Hampton of Middletown and many special nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial is at Butler County Memorial Park, Trenton.

Richard T. Turvey
Former Middletown resident Richard Thomas Turvey, 76, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2000, in Las Vegas, Nev., where he had made his home for the past 15 years.
Richard was the son of Gladys and Irvin Turvey Sr., both deceased.
He is survived by five sons, Richard Thomas Turvey II, Jonathon H. I. Turvey, Steven Roger Turvey, Brett James Turvey and Jeff Rodney Turvey, and a stepson, Gary Riley; a sister, Doris Turvey Hansel of Roanoke, Va.; a brother, Lloyd Turvey of Middletown; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a favored niece, Frances Lee Shively of Cincinnati.
Mr. Turvey was preceded in death by the mother of his sons, Jeanetta Laneer Turvey, and by his wife of 20 years, Helen Riley Turvey; three brothers, Irvin Turvey Jr., Floyd Turvey and Timothy Roger Turvey; and a sister, Martha Jones.
Richard Thomas Turvey was born and educated in Middletown. He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 16. His first assignment was aboard the U.S. Arizona at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. On Saturday, Dec., 6, 1941, he was transferred to Corregidor in the Phillipine Islands. He was on Corregidor when the Island fell in to the hands of the enemy. He was part of the Bataan Death March and was taken to a prison camp in Japan where he was interred for the remainder of World War II.
Mr. Turvey was highly decorated by the U.S. Navy for his efforts to protect the doctors and nurses who remained on Corregidor to serve the wounded after the Island was evacuated. He was discharged from the Navy on Aug. 8, 1947, as a Chief Boatswain's Mate after spending many months at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital recuperating from malnutrition.
Richard Turvey will be honored at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2000, at the chapel at Woodside Cemetery where an honor guard from American Legion Post 218 will provide full military honors with a 21-gun salute and the playing of taps.
Richard Walton
FRANKLIN -- A memorial service for Richard L. "Dick" Walton will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 31, 2000, at the Franklin Community Baptist Church on Mission Lane in Franklin. The Rev. Chris Musgrave will officiate.
Mr. Walton, 59, died June 22, 2000, in Mesa, Ariz., where he had been living.
The 1959 Franklin High School graduate was a retired maintenance supervisor for heating and air conditioning for Mesa Unified Schools and had been working as a service manager for First Mechanical Air Conditioning in Mesa.
Survivors include his wife, Patty (Harrell) Pade Walton; a daughter, Kim Riera of Arizona; three sons, James, Joe and Kelly, all of Arizona; a stepson, David Pade of Arizona; his mother, Lorene Walton of Miamisburg; a sister, Linda Akers of Waynesville; a brother, Larry of Franklin; and 11 grandchildren.
Helen M. Watkins
Helen M. Watkins, 66, of Middletown, died Friday, June 23, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
She was born May 30, 1934, in Swiftown, Miss., a daughter of Floyd C. and the late Mildred M. (Willingham) McClellan. Mrs. Watkins served alongside her husband as a pastor's wife for 47 years. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a member of Stratford Heights Church of God, president of Women's Ministries and wedding coordinator at the church. Mrs. Watkins was an avid reader and gardener. She loved to travel and made friends in many places around the world, including Seoul, Korea, Hong Kong and Hamburg, Germany. Rev. and Mrs. Watkins would have celebrated 50 years of marriage in August.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Walter D. Watkins of Middletown; her father, Floyd C. McClellan; two sons, Van (Joy) Watkins of Atlanta and Dennis W. (Carol) Watkins of Cleveland, Tenn.; a daughter, Virginia Ann Hamilton of Severna Park, Md.; a brother, James Van McClellan of Memphis; a sister, Dianne (David) Cameron and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mildred M. McClellan; a sister, Patricia Ann Walker; and a daughter-in-law, Linda J. Watkins.

Paul Wilson
Paul Wilson, 80, of 515 Oxford State Road, died Sunday morning, June 25, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
He was born in Middletown, Jan. 11, 1920, a son of Ira and Minnie (Rhodes) Wilson and graduated from Middletown High School in 1938. He served in the U.S. Army Intelligence Division and worked for Armco Steel for 38 years, before retiring in 1982. He was a member of the American Legion and the Breiel Boulevard Church of God.
He is survived by his brother, Don Wilson of Hampton, Va.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Ruth, in 1993.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Colp officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Woodside Cemetery. American Legion Post 218 Color Guard will provide military honors at graveside.
Jalane R. Wynn
Mrs. Jalane Rene (King) Wynn, 50, of Middletown, died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
She was born on Aug. 5, 1949, in Middletown, Ohio, to the late Gene Austin and Lunell Veal King. She was a member of New Era Baptist Church since early childhood and served as president of the senior usher board. She retired from Crystal Tissue Co. in 1999 after 301ڲ years of service.
Jalane was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents and her special cousin, Burnetta Wright in 1999.
She is survived by her husband of 27 years, William David Wynn; a daughter, Carmen (Ronald) Frost; sons Derek (Jari) Wynn and Darien Wynn; grandson Jared David Wynn; a host of devoted brothers and sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and a host of friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 26, at New Era Baptist Church, 1120 Yankee Road, with the Rev. Elmon Prier officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hall-Jordan Memorial Chapel, 918 S. Main St.
