Laura A. Adkins
Mrs. Laura A. Adkins, 74, of 4532 Willow Knoll Circle, died at her residence Sunday morning, July 30, 2000.
She was born in Middletown on Jan. 2, 1926, a daughter of Eloy and Dorothy (Conrad) Thomas. Mrs. Adkins was a telephone operator for the Ohio Bell Co. for 32 years and was a member of the Pioneer Girls.
She is survived by her daughter, Valerie Monroe (husband Randy) of Monroe; two grandchildren, Kevin and Amy; a brother, Marvin Thomas (wife Livie) of Middletown; and a sister, Edith Klapper, and her son, David, of Monroe.
Her husband, Lonnie Adkins, preceded her in death in 1989.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home. Friends may call one hour prior to services. Entombment will follow in Woodside Mausoleum.

Harold R. Amburgey
Harold R. Amburgey, 64, of 4124 Vannest Ave., died Monday morning, July 31, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
He was born in Middletown, Ohio, on June 19, 1936, the son of Rollie and Grace (Henderson) Amburgey. He was a truck driver for Dickerson Distributing for 37 years, retiring in 1995.
Mr. Amburgey is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sherrie; three daughters, Tammy Ross (husband Rob) of Middletown, Lisa Foreman of Charlotte, N.C., and Melissa "Sam" Collie (husband Andy) of Middletown; four sons, Kevin, and his wife, Terri, Jeff, and his wife, Sandra, Chris, and his wife, Kim, all of Middletown, and Tom of Charlotte, N.C.; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Sharon Kellis of Middletown and Katie Parsons of Berea, Ky.
His parents preceded him in death.

Marie Barnett
GERMANTOWN -- Mrs. Marie Barnett, 59, of Germantown, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2000, at Hospice of Dayton.
She was born on Sept. 26, 1940, in Hazard, Ky., to the late Harlen and Lina (Neace) Cole Sr. Mrs. Barnett was employed at the Valley View Middle School cafeteria with 17 years of service.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Alpha Jean Latham; and a brother, Letcher Cole.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, John Barnett; two daughters, Tammy (Linda Izor) Barnett of West Carrollton, and Sandy (Robert) Carpenter, and her grandson, Keith Carpenter, all of Germantown; two sisters, Rose Meadows of Hazard, Ky., and Kathy Burton of Middletown; two brothers, Harlen Cole Jr. of West Carrollton, Asberry Cole of Germantown and Bobby Gene Cole of Springfield, Ohio.

Elizabeth Bramlage
Ms. Elizabeth Rose Bramlage, 80, of Middletown, died Thursday, July 27, 2000, at Lakeridge Villa in Colerain Township, Ohio.
A Middletown native, she was born on Oct. 1, 1919, to Vincent J. and Eleanore (Ward) Bramlage. Ms. Bramlage was employed as a secretary for Black-Clawson for 33 years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of Holy Family Parish, Holy Trinity Church. Elizabeth was a former member of Wildwood Golf Club and Forest Hills Country Club.
She leaves no survivors.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, the Rev. Vincent Bramlage.

She was born on March 26, 1942, in Booneville, Ky., the daughter of Ruford and Hattie Mae (Bowman) Thomas.

Marie Cobb
Mrs. Marie Cobb, 80, of Middletown, Ohio, former longtime resident of Monroe, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 27, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
She was born on July 9, 1920, in New Boston, Ohio, to Fannie and Autie Howard. She was a member of Berachah Baptist Church and the Middletown Senior Citizens Center. Mrs. Cobb was employed at Mount Pleasant Nursing Home in Monroe for 10 years and Park-N-Save Supermarket in Monroe for four years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fannie (Eldridge) and Autie Howard; a brother, Clifford Howard; and two sisters, Prudie Morris and Mildred Bottles.

Phillip R. Cope
FRANKLIN--Phillip Ray "Butch" Cope, 47, of 533 E. Fourth St., passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
He was born on Aug. 20, 1952, in Franklin, Ohio, the son of William Phillip and Eva Francis (Moodispaugh) Cope. Mr. Cope was employed by Maggard's Shoe Repair for 25 years.
Preceding him in death were his mother, Eva, in 1997, and grandmother, Viola Bell Clark in 1996.
Surviving are his father, William Phillip Cope, and stepmother, Evalena Cope, both of Springboro; sisters Janie Lyall, and her husband, Gary, Gloria Combs, Gail Moore, and her husband, Steve, Marilyn Michael, and her husband, Bill, Kim Land, and her husband, Bret, all of Franklin, and Tammy Mann, and husband, Chris, of Camden; brothers Lloyd Cope, and wife, Shelby, Chuck Cope, and wife, Tina, and Bobby Cope, and wife, Joy, all of Franklin, Bill Cope, and wife, Sharleen, of Kentucky, Randy Cope, and wife, Angie, of Cincinnati, and Alan Cope, and wife, Barb, of Miamisburg; and 35 nieces and nephews.

Norbert Francis
FRANKLIN--Norbert W. Francis, 81, of 121 Boys Ave., passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
He was born on June 3, 1919, in Frenchtown, Ohio, the son of Joseph and Flora (Cardo) Francis. Mr. Francis was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He was employed by Armco Steel Co. as a steel worker for 39 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 184 in Piqua, Ohio.
Mr. Francis was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren, Gabe Barber and Jessica Francis.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Frances (Carol) Francis; two sons, Bill Barber, and his wife, Becky, of Hamilton, and Scott Francis, and his wife, Jan, of Franklin; a sister, Stella Wright of Piqua; a grandson, Rase Barber; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Roscoe H. Getz
Roscoe Harold Getz, 76, of Middletown, Ohio, passed away Monday, July 31, 2000, at the Middletown Regional Hospital emergency room.
He brightened and enriched the lives of all the people he met.
He was born on Oct. 18, 1923, in Nappanee, Ind. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed on the battleship U.S.S. New Mexico.
Mr. Getz was employed as a superintendent at Kaiser Engineering in Elkhart, Ind., for 10 years. He moved to Middletown in 1967 and was employed as a cement mason for S&K Construction for 15 years, retiring in 1985. In the late 1940s, he was employed by Goebel Beer as a trainer of Clydesdale parade show horses and traveled the United States appearing in parades.
He was a past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post of LaGrange County, Ind., and a lifetime member of Miami Valley Post 3809 VFW Post of Middletown. He was a 30-year member of the American Legion Post 218 of Middletown, and a 30-year member of the Operative Plasterers and Cement Masons Union. Mr. Getz had served in the Civil Conservation Corps.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Marie (Secrist) Getz; his wife, Martha Aileen Getz, who died on Jan. 25, 2000; a son, John H. Getz; four brothers, Tedd, Darrell, John and Max Getz; and a sister, Betty Getz.
Surviving are three sons, Jim and Jerry Getz, and Larry Getz, and his wife, Ronica, all of Middletown; two daughters, Nadine Begley, and her husband, Gary, of Franklin, and Robin Conley of Middletown; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill Getz, and wife, Esther, of Fremont, Ind., and Jerry Getz, and his wife, Linda, of Summerton, S.C.; and two sisters, Donna Kehoe, and husband, Doyle, of Interlachen, Fla., and Rose Craun of Fremont, Ind.

Edith P. Frey
Mrs. Edith P. Frey, 92, of Mount Pleasant Retirement Village, Monroe, formerly of Middletown, died Sunday, July 30, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
She was born in Bemidji, Minn., on Oct. 7, 1907, and had lived in this area since 1946. Mrs. Frey was a graduate of Winona State Teachers College in Winona, Minn., and a homemaker. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Women's Church Circle, the Sorosis Club and an avid bridge player.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur J. Frey in 1984; her parents, Frank and Anna (Holden) Halstenrud; and four brothers.
She leaves two daughters, Carol P. Sandbrink (Willard) of Norton Canton, Ohio, and Arlene Imes (James) of Monroe, Ohio; four grandchildren, Debra Ranson (Matt) of Falls Church, Va., Scott Sandbrink of Massillon, Ohio, Jeffrey Imes (Anne) of Asheville, N.C., and Michael Imes (Kami) of Houston, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Sean Ranson and Emily and Allison Imes; and a sister, Helen Edwards of Tracy, Minn.

Florence Gentry
Florence (Lynch) Gentry, 76, beloved wife of Lawson Gentry, died at Middletown Regional Hospital Monday morning of heart failure. She was a homemaker and had been in bad health for many years.
She was born in Lee County, Ky. Her parents were Colman Lynch and Julia Crouch Lynch, who preceded her in death. Her son Lawson Gentry Jr. also preceded her in death in 1997.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lawson Gentry of Middletown, retired from Armco; daughters Josephine James and Myrtle Ann Flint and son Guy Stanley Gentry, all of Middletown; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; sisters Nanny McKinney of Irvine, Ky. and Bettie Barrett of Richmond, Ky.

Ruth Gordon Halter
Mrs. Ruth (Gordon) Halter, 98, of Monroe, Ohio, passed away Monday, July 24, 2000, at Mount Pleasant Village.
She was born on Nov. 10, 1901, in Bellevue, Pa., to Stephen and Maude (Ludwick) Gordon. Mrs. Halter was a member of the Daughters of American Colonists. She moved to Monroe from Pittsburgh, Pa., on Dec. 1, 1978. She was a former member of the Homestead Park United Methodist Church.
She leaves a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Halter of Englewood, Ohio; a granddaughter, Susan Halter of Vandalia, Ohio; and a grandson, Lynn (Laura) Halter of Columbus.
Mrs. Halter was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ernest Halter in 1962; her father, Stephen Gordon in 1914; her mother, Maude Gordon in 1921; a son, Gordon Everett Halter in 1994; and a sister, Mrs. Martin E. Holden in 1985.

Juanita Todd Hamilton, 83, of Garden Manor Extended Care Center, passed away July 24, 2000, after succumbing to cancer.
She was born Sept. 27, 1916, in Hamilton, and she spent her lifetime in Butler County. She was a homemaker and former secretary of the Senior Saints of Grace Baptist Church, and a member of Grace Baptist Church and Trinity Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Earl Hamilton in 1969, daughter JoAnn Barnes, one grandson and two great-grandchildren.
She is survived by sons, William Carl Hamilton (Bertha) of Hamilton, James E. Hamilton Jr. (Chris) of Toledo; and daughter Betty Peck (William T.) of Middletown; 19 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; and several sisters and brothers.

LaVern Jordan, 97, formerly of Gratis, died Saturday, July 29, 2000, at Heartland of Eaton.
She was born in South Lebanon on March 19, 1903, to Harry and Jenny (Bell) Reddick. She was a housewife and widow to Kenny Jordan, who passed away in 1985.
She is survived by two sons, Robert and wife Marjorie Jordan of Eaton, and Richard and wife Paula Jordan of Middletown; two daughters, Vivian Hardy of Eaton and Josephine Taylor of Cambridge; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 10 great great-grandchildren; and a sister, Delvenia Macy of Germantown.
She was preceded in death by two sons, James and William Jordan; a brother, Louis Reddick; and a sister, Elizabeth Stubbs.

Sadie Keith
FAIRFIELD -- Sadie Keith, 86, of Fairfield, Ohio, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at 2:30 p.m. in Mercy Hospital of Fairfield.
She was born in Manchester, Ky., on Jan. 21, 1914, the daughter of Alfred and Ethel (Webb) Davidson. She was educated in the Kentucky public and boarding schools. On July 31, 1936, she married Stanley Weeks who preceded her in death in 1969, and she then married Opal Keith, who preceded her in death in 1986.
She was a member of St. Clair Baptist Church. She was employed at Smith Cabinet Co., retiring after 15 years in 1969.
She is survived by three daughters, Shirley (Paul) Morgan of Middletown, Mary McCarty of Hamilton and Norma (Richard) Thall of Fairfield; two sons, Carl (Barbara) Keith of Columbus, Ohio, and Doug (Carol) Keith of West Chester; 13 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Manford (Bettie) Davidson of Louisville, Ky., and Herschel (Alta) Davidson of Taylorsville, Ky.; and a sister, Samantha (John) Milton of Arlington, Va.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Stanley and Opal; her parents; a sister, Stella Keith; and brothers, Steve and Sterling Davidson.

Steven M. Kennedy, 47, of 8949 Thomas Road, Middletown, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2000, at Miami Valley Hospital.
He was born on March 10, 1953, in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Lawrence and Pauline (Slaton) Kennedy. Mr. Kennedy was employed by General Motors as an assembler. He was an avid cyclist, hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his parents; brothers Gregory of Indian Rocks Beach, Fla., Jeff of Springboro and John of Ochopee, Fla.; a son, Justin Tyler Kennedy of West Carrollton; and one niece and two nephews.

Mrs. Judith Allene Kirby, 81, of Middletown, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2000, at her residence.
She was born in North Middletown, Ky., on April 13, 1919, and had lived in this area since 1937. Mrs. Kirby worked at Aeronca during World War II and was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Christian Church and Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Nellie Steele, and a brother, Kenneth L. Steele.
Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Robert C. Kirby; a nephew, Larry (Charlotte) Steele of Middletown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was born on March 9, 1925, in Franklin, Ohio, the daughter of Abe and Daisy (Cook) Barker. Mrs. Lindsey was a 1943 graduate of Franklin High School.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Jack, Jim and Ted Barker; and a sister, Lillian Devers.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Earl; a son, David Earl Lindsey of Demorest, Ga.; two daughters, Kathy Manning of Franklin and Cheryl Trent of Germantown; two brothers, Ron and John Barker, both of Middletown; a sister, Delores Mays of Carlisle; nine grandchildren, Trisha, Andrew, Jeff, Amy, Beth, Earl, Charles, Jacob and Sydney; and five great-grandchildren.

Martha L. Mansell
Martha Lynette Mansell, 85, of the Briarfield Nursing Home, Courtland, Ohio, and a former resident of Warren, Ohio, died early Thursday morning, July 27, 2000, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.
She was born on March 9, 1915, in Mecca, Ohio, the daughter of Earl and Maude Bayer Moore. Mrs. Mansell had worked at General Electric Trumbull Lamp in Warren and retired in 1978.
She was a member of the Disciples of Christ in Lordstown, Ohio, Grange and Blue Star Mothers and Lordstown Senior Citizens. Martha was an avid bowler and short hole golf player, and she loved to read.
She is survived by three sons, Phillip Mansell of Warren, Duane Mansell of Lordstown and Gary Mansell of Middletown; a sister, Catherine Moore of Warren; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Theodore, Russell, Robert and John Moore; and three sisters, Helen Huffman, Marguerite Daugherty and Florine Anderson.

Judith D. McCormick
Judith Dee McCormick, 53, formerly of Dayton and Xenia, Ohio, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2000, at her residence.
She was born on Feb. 10, 1947, in Washington, D.C. She was an employee of Miami Valley Hospital and was also a massage therapist. She helped found the Therapeutic Riding Institute, (T.R.I.) which has established a scholarship in her name.
She was preceded in death by her father, Maj. Terence McCormick, U.S. Air Force, retired, and a grandson, Zachary Heider.
She is survived by the greatest love of her life, Julian Johnson; a son, Joe Heider, and his wife, Bobbi Jo; a daughter, Robin Heider; a granddaughter, Stephanie Heider; her mother, Beatrice McCormick; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Tim and Joni, Shawn and Sharon, Brian and Janet and Michael and Donna McCormick; a sister, Patricia Jenkins, and her husband, Rodger; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.

Betty C. Pitts
Mrs. Betty C. Pitts, 77, of 1924 Fernwood St., died in Middletown Wednesday, July 26, 2000.
She was born in Georgetown, Ohio, on June 16, 1923, the daughter of James and Jennie Chain. Mrs. Pitts was employed as a factory worker at General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1983.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene in 1996; and three sisters.
Among her survivors are a nephew, Charles T. Hill, and his wife, Ruth, of Middletown; four great-nieces; three great-great-nieces; and two great-great-nephews.

Lynda Prater
FRANKLIN -- Mrs. Lynda Prater, 61, of 315 Bridge St., passed away Sunday, July 30, 2000, at Sycamore Hospital.
She was born on Oct. 28, 1938, in Franklin, Ohio, the daughter of Nathan and Luna (Ross) Jones.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene; sons Scott and Roddy Prater, both of Franklin; daughters Misty Gross of Franklin, Rebecca Coffey of Middletown and Tabitha Powell of Springboro; and 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Ronald L. Shupert
CARLISLE -- Ronald L. Shupert, 49, formerly of Carlisle, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at Hospice of Miami, Fla.
He was born on Oct. 2, 1950, in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Howard and Shirley (Futschek) Shupert. He graduated from Carlisle High School in 1969 and moved to Miami, Fla. He served in the U.S. Army for four years as an SP4 and was honorably discharged in 1977. He was stationed in Okinawa.
Mr. Shupert was a member of the Stettler Lutheran Church in Miamisburg, Ohio, and was confirmed on May 7, 1967. He was employed as a union carpenter in Miami, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Carl and Mae (Mears) Shupert, and maternal grandfather, Frank Futschek; his step-grandfather, Charles W. Moser; and an uncle, Robert A. Shupert.
He is survived by a daughter, Caroline Shupert Burkley of Coral Gables, Fla.; his parents, Howard and Shirley Shupert of Carlisle; a brother, David of Middletown, and a twin brother, Donald, and sister-in-law, Dianna, of Miami Beach, Fla.; maternal grandparents, Jane and Brant Stanford of St. James City, Fla.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a lifelong friend of the family, E.F. Yurka of Miami, Fla.
ARRANGEMENTS: There will be a memorial service at the convenience of the family, with burial in Hillgrove Cemetery, Miamisburg, Ohio.

Harry R. Steinbrugge
SPRINGBORO -- Harry R. Steinbrugge, 80, a longtime resident of Springboro since 1955, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2000, at Heartland of Oakridge.
He was born on March 2, 1920, in Dayton, Ohio. Mr. Steinbrugge was employed as a salesman in dairy route sales and was an avid bowler.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his wife, Mary, who died in November 1998.
He is survived by his son, Byron, and his wife, Helen, of Franklin; a daughter, Karen Hale, and her husband, Martin, of Springboro; grandchildren Heather Hawvermale and Kevin and Kerry Steinbrugge; and a great-grandchild, Brooklyne Steinbrugge.

Hal D. Stevens
Hal D. Stevens, 75, of Danville, Ky., formerly of Middletown, died Saturday, July 29, 2000, at Thompson-Hood Veteran's Center in Wilmore, Ky.
He was born in Middletown, Ohio, on April 24, 1925, a son of the late Russell and Lorene Willoughby Stevens. He was the former owner of Stevens Disposal in Danville, Ky., and also helped establish Boyle County's solid waste collection and disposal service. Mr. Stevens was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Lexington Avenue Baptist Church in Danville, a Mason and a member of Oleika Shrine. He formerly was an avid house-boater and square dancer.
He is survived by two sons, David Stevens and Terry Stevens, both of Danville, Ky.; two daughters, Linda Park of Hoquiam, Wash., and Nancy Bertini of Springfield, Ore.; and 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred B. Stevens in 1997.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4, at Woodside Cemetery chapel. The Rev. Mark Payton will officiate. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home.

George E. Thompson
George Edward Thompson, 87, of Silverdale, Wash., formerly of Miamisburg, Ohio, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, in Middletown.
He was born on March 30, 1913, in Marion, Ind., the son of Edward R. Thompson and Josephine (Clausen) Thompson. He retired in 1971 from Kimberly-Clark Paper Co. where he had worked as a supervisor of millwrights. Mr. Thompson was a Lutheran.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marian (Hughes) Thompson; two daughters, Shirley (husband Jack) Lentz of Middletown and Carole (husband A.J.) "Bud" Bruins of Silverdale, Wash; a grandson, Jeff Lentz, and four other grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Berneal Christian of Beavercreek, Ohio; and a niece and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Jackie Lentz in 1958.

Glenn K. Thompson
Former Middletown resident Glenn K. Thompson, 81, of Brooksville, Fla., died Sunday, July 30, 2000, at his residence.
Mr. Thompson was a World War II veteran. He worked at Armco Steel Co. his entire career. After graduating from Ashland (Ky.) High School in 1937, he attended Capitol University in Columbus, Ohio. He ran out of money and went to work for Armco in Ashland in 1940.
In 1942, he entered the U.S. Army Air Corps where he trained to be a B-17 Flying Fortress bomber pilot. As a lieutenant stationed in England, he flew 25 missions in the 388th Bomb Group. On the last mission, his B-17, called "Borrowed Time," was hit, and an engine caught fire. He dived to put out the fire and opted to fly back across Allied lines. As a pilot, he was the last of his crew to bail out. The plane exploded 10 seconds after he got out. There were two casualties, but no prisoners of war taken as a result of this mission.
In 1945, Mr. Thompson resumed his career with Armco in Ashland, Ky. In 1946, he was transferred to Middletown, Ohio, where he worked the balance of his career. While working in the Metal Products Division, he was successful in both plant management and labor relations positions. He retired in 1982 and lived n Russell Springs, Ky., and Brooksville, Fla. Mr. Thompson died of lung cancer in his home in Brooksville, Fla., on July 30, 2000. He was 81.
He is survived by daughters, Jenny Mitchell of West Chester, Luanne McDaniel of Meadville, Pa.; sons, Rick of Middletown and Mark, and his wife, Philomena, of Springboro, Ohio; a stepson, Jay Donavan, and his wife, Chris, of Springfield, Ill; seven grandchildren, Kristopher, Erin, Adam, Sara Mitchcell and Adreinne, Peter and Kevin Thompson.
ARRANGEMENTS: The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at Bernard Funeral Home, 367 N. Main St., Russell Springs, Ky. Burial of the cremated remains will take place at Poppelwell Cemetery in Russell Springs.

Helen Tipell
Mrs. Helen Tipell, 78, of Willow Knoll Nursing Home, died Friday, July 28, 2000.
She was a lifelong Middletown resident. Helen was born on Feb. 21, 1922, to Sylvester and Mae Sobota. She married Donald A. Tipell, and he preceded her in death in 1981. She was a housewife and a member of Faith United Methodist Church.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Tipell is survived by two sons, Ronald (Linda) Tipell of Middletown and Donald F. (Diane) Tipell of Franklin; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a brother, Steve Sobota of Middletown; a half brother, Jackie Ray Highley; and four sisters, Delores (Gene) Wells and Barbara Baden, both of Middletown, Betty (Bill) Crocker of Springboro and Carol (Ersel) Blanton of Germantown.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Monday at Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home. Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park in Trenton.

Dorothy L. Weikel
Mrs. Dorothy Louise Weikel, 92, formerly of Middletown, died Sunday, July 30, 2000, in Traverse City, Mich.
She was born on Dec. 22, 1907, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Herbert and Florence (Buerling) Seelbrede. She married Elmer E. Weikel on April 29, 1931, in Winchester, Ky.
Dorothy was a bookkeeper for Middletown Motor Mart, retiring in the late 1970s, when she moved to Michigan. She was a life member of Eastern Star and White Shrine and a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Elmer, of Traverse City, Mich.; a daughter, Carol (Paul) Hoskins of Middletown; a son, Charles (Billie) Weikel of Houston, Texas; a son-in-law, Tom Stabler of Kettering; a brother, Herbert (June) Seelbrede of Strongsville, Ohio; six grandchildren, Michael (Lisa) Stabler, Mark Stabler, Patty (Matt) Rye, Paula (Scott) Brewer, Carla (David) Wight, and Joanie Johnson; and seven great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Coralie Stabler; and a sister, Coralie Knepshield.

Lewis E. Welshofer
Lewis E. Welshofer, 77, of Middletown, died at his residence Monday, July 24, 2000. He was born on May 18, 1923, in Jamestown, N.Y., to Edward R. and Jesse E. Welshofer.
Mr. Welshofer graduated from Jamestown High School in June 1941. He attended Ohio Northern University from 1941 until 1943, at which time he was drafted into the Army. He served during World War II as a staff sergeant and was stationed in both the Philippines and Japan.
He began employment at Armco in 1946 in industrial engineering and then moved into human resource work in the 1950s. In 1980, he became general manager of corporate organization planning, the position from which he retired in 1984. During this time, Mr. Welshofer had continued his education and graduated from Miami University in February 1949, with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and earned a master's degree in personnel counseling in 1976.
In 1984, he became an instructor in the department on management at the Richard T. Farmer School of Business, where he taught a number of management undergraduate and graduate courses. His career at Miami University also included coordinator of the introduction to business course, university marshal for 10 years, secretary, treasurer and president of Beta Gamma Sigma, and member of the department of management executive committee.
Mr. Welshofer was a member of Holy Family Parish, Holy Trinity Church. He was a member and president of the Fenwick High School board of education. He was also a member of the Wildwood Golf Club, American Legion Post 218, Beta Gamma Sigma-Miami Chapter, and the United Way of Middletown where he was the general chairman of the general fund drive (twice).
Among his survivors are his wife, Sarah E. Welshofer of Middletown; three sons, Lee A. (Linda) Welshofer of Covington, La.; Lewis E. (Barbara) Welshofer, U.S. Army, Italy, and John A. (Jane) Welshofer of Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters, Lisa A. (Joseph) Sauers of Middletown and Gretchen M. Welshofer of Austin, Texas; a brother, Martin Welshofer of Joplin, Mo.; a sister, Mary Wickett of Hamburg, N.Y.; and 10 grandchildren, Lynn and Michael Sauers, Leigh and David Ross Welshofer, Matthew, Nicholas, and McKenzie Welshofer, and Erin, Garrett, and Elsa Welshofer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Jesse Welshofer.
ARRANGEMENTS: Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Parish, Holy Trinity Church, Thursday at 9:30 a.m., with Father John Civille as celebrant.
Visitation is today, July 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home. Entombment will be at Woodside Mausoleum.
