Wayne C. Back Sr.
Wayne C. Back Sr., 84, of Middletown, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at his residence. He was born in Middletown on June 24, 1915, and was a lifelong Middletown resident. Mr. Back was employed as service manager for Voith-Sulzer Co., formerly Diamond International, and worked there for 27 years before retiring in 1978. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Finnie (Trimble) Back; and a sister, Minnie Back. Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Phyllis J. Back; two sons, Wayne C. Back Jr. of Kissimmee, Fla., and Dale McCoy of Cary, N.C.; a daughter, Vickie J. Wareneke of Lebanon, Ohio; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Larry W. Back of Germantown and Kenneth W. Back of Panama City, Fla.; a sister, Verna Mae Eby of Farmersville, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and a faithful friend, George Jefferies of Cortez, Fla.
ARRANGEMENTS: Services will be held at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. Dale McCoy officiating. Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Becky Baker
Becky Shearer Baker, 30, of 112 S. Clinton St., Middletown, died Tuesday morning, April 25, 2000, at her residence following a lengthy illness. She was born in Smyrna, Tenn., on Oct. 2, 1969, a daughter of Allen and Darlene (Hatfield) Shearer. She is survived by her parents; a sister, Alane Shearer; a brother, Allen M. Shearer II; a nephew and two nieces, Damien L. Standafer, Taylor L. Standafer and Jordyn D. Standafer; many friends and relatives; and a very special best friend, Tracey Bunch. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mac and Daisy Hatfield and Montford and Hazel Shearer; and a stepgrandfather, Donald Lambert.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Mildred Becraft
On Wednesday, April 26, 2000, the Lord Jesus called and Mildred M. Becraft answered his call to come home. She had been a resident at Hawthorn Glen Nursing Center for several weeks. She was born on April 28, 1919, in Middletown, Ohio, to Van C. and Mollie (Morrison) Tipton. Mildred was the granddaughter of J.B. and Amanda Morrison, founders of the Clayton Street Church of God, now Stratford Heights Church of God. At the age of 9, she accepted Jesus as her Savior. She was 10 when she started singing in the Clayton Street Church choir. She loved to sing and play the piano in church and was a much requested soloist. On Aug. 2, 1935, she married Stephen Roe Becraft. In November 1943, for health reasons, they moved their young family to Tucson, Ariz., returning to Middletown in December 1979. Mrs. Becraft leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 64 years, Stephen R. of Middletown; two sons, Daniel R. of Middletown and Stephen J. (Sandra) of Upland, Calif.; four grandchildren, Danine Becraft of Tucson, Shawn R. Becraft of Middletown, Felicia Brown of Upland and David Becraft of Denver, Colo.; two great-grandchildren, Trustin Brown of Upland and Stephanie Crandall of Tucson; and a very special friend, who was like the daughter she never had, Cathy (Tony) Shepherd of Trenton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Van and Mollie Tipton; her stepmother, Gertrude (Hendricks) Tipton; two brothers, Lloyd and William Tipton; a sister, Wanda Tipton; and an aunt, who was like an older sister all her life, Goldie Marie Morrison McGee.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be on Monday, May 1, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Elk Creek Cemetery.

Christine Bird
Mrs. Christine Bird, 57, of 1504 Penfield Ave., died Thursday afternoon, April 27, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born in Harlan County, Ky., on Sept. 12, 1942, a daughter of Caleb and Ellie (Sturgill) Blakley. She is survived by her husband, Nathaniel Bird Sr.; her six children and their spouses, Rickey and Alice Bird Sr., Bessie and Donnie Wells, Josh and Linda Bird, Patricia and Mike White and Nathaniel Bird Jr., and his fiancee, Shirley Stepp and Otis Bird and his fiancee, Debra Proffitt; her 15 grandchildren, Derrick Bird, Christina and Tommy Morris, Jackie Balzer and fiancee, Mike Fugate, Matthew Dotson, Jessica and Eva Wells, Nathaniel Bird III, Anthony, Richard, Michael, Sherry and Mary Bird, Keisha and Tiffany Baughn and Brian "Bootie" Reed; seven stepgrandchildren, Cheyenne Tacket, Terry Tacket Jr., Andra and Austin Smith, Eddie Proffitt Jr., Brian Proffitt, and Timmy Proffitt Sr., and his fiancee, Jamie Bacher; her deceased grandson Rickey's fiancee, Jenny Claudio; a great-grandchild, Ricki Marie Bird; and two step-great-grandchildren, Isaiah Claudio and "Little Timmy" Proffitt Jr.; two sisters, Pauline and George Gee and Bessie McRoberts; and four brothers, Roy Blakley and Verna, Otis Blakley and Kathie, Jimmy Blakley and Dinea, and William Blakley and Kathie. Mrs. Bird was preceded in death by her daughter, Ellie Mae Bird; a grandson, Rickey Bird Jr.; and her brother and his wife, Gilbert and Beulah Blakley.

Mary Jo Brewer
Former Middletown resident Mrs. Mary Jo Brewer, 56, of 1516 Woodside Drive, Wilmington, Ohio, died at her residence at 9:50 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 2000. She was born in Middletown, Ohio, on Nov. 21, 1943, to Dr. E.C. Peck and Ida Mae (Long) Peck. She married Phillip E. Brewer at St. Paul's Evangelical and Reformed Church in Middletown on Jan. 19, 1968. Mary Jo graduated from Middletown High School and attended Miami Jacobs College. She was director of Emergency Communications for the City of Wilmington. Prior to her job there, she had worked at Hydroelectric Lift Trucks. She was founder and manager of Brewer's Florist and had worked as a secretary at Armco Steel Co. She had been an interim director of the Middletown Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Brewer was a member and past deacon of the Wilmington Presbyterian Church; a member of the Wilmington area Emmaus Community; member of APCO International Association of Public Safety Communications Officers; the NENA National Emergency Numbers Association; a founding member and board of director for the State Task Force for Mandatory Training of Emergency Communicators; and a member of the Clinton County Agricultural Association (member of the Fair Board). Survivors include her parents, Dr. E.C. and Ida Mae Peck of Monroe, Ohio; her husband, Phillip; a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Diana Brewer of Harvard, Mass.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberli and David Steele and Michelle and Jason Crosley, all of Wilmington; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Carol Peck of Raleigh, N.C.; a niece, Angie Peck; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Chalmers and Patricia Elliott Brewer and David and Isabel McQuade Brewer, all of Middletown; and four grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew and Jonathan Steele and Cameron Crosley. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Tonya Peck-McQueen.

Earl R. Cockerham
Earl Ray Cockerham, 30, of Middletown, died Sunday, April 30, 2000, at Barbara Parke Care Home. He was born in Middletown on Dec. 10, 1969, and was a lifelong Middletown resident. Mr. Cockerham was a construction worker. He was preceded in death by his mother, Wanda (Burroughs) Cockerham; and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Elza Burroughs. Survivors include his father, Robert Cockerham; three sisters, Tammy Harrison (Jim Morrison), Bobbie Henry (Paul) and Tracy Danner (Billy), all of Middletown; his children, Chandler Ray Cockerham and Nicholas Dean Cockerham, both of Middletown; special friend and mother of his children, Kelly Harp of Middletown; paternal grandparents, Earl and Martha Cockerham; aunt and uncle, Rick and Diane Cockerham; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and he will be missed by many close friends, and lifelong friend, Kevin Venters.

Phillip D. Collins
Phillip David Collins, infant son born to David G. and Shauna L. Collins of Middletown, died at birth on Monday, April 24, 2000, at Miami Valley Hospital. Besides his parents, he is also survived by paternal grandparents, Diana Collins of Germantown, and the late E. Gene Collins; maternal grandparents, Phillip and Saundra Spangler of Middletown; as well as many loving family members and friends.

Eugene Combs
Eugene Combs, 70, of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Middletown, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2000, at Southview Hospital in Centerville, Ohio. He was born on June 3, 1929, in Middletown, Ohio, and lived here most of his life. Mr. Combs ran a press in the print shop at Armco Steel Co. for 25 years before retiring. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Millie Combs; and a brother, Carl Combs. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Norma; four daughters, Rebecca Warrick, and her husband, Paul, Jeanne Puckett, and husband, Michael, and Mary Ann Mowery, and husband, Craig, all of Middletown, and Tonya Setters of Las Vegas, Nev.; six grandchildren, Paul Eugene Warrick of Middletown, Cheryl Setters of Las Vegas, Monica Childers of Middletown, Josh Setters of Las Vegas and Megan and Dustin Puckett, both of Middletown; two great-grandsons, Nicholas Mowery and Michael Warrick, both of Middletown; and a sister, Nelda Davis, and husband, Donald, of Florida.

Effie Cottongim
Mrs. Effie Cottongim, 88, of Middletown, passed away Friday, April 28, 2000, at Manor Care in Miamisburg, Ohio. She was born on Oct. 12, 1911, in Powell County, Ky., and lived in this area since 1932. Mrs. Cottongim was a homemaker and a member of the Tytus Avenue First Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel F. Cottongim, who died on Feb. 17, 1993. Among her survivors are three sisters, Virginia Ridenour, and her husband, William, of Dayton, Ohio, Betty Allen of Irvine, Ky., and Edna Zimmerman of Sidney, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

Rowan F. Crawford
Rowan Francis Crawford, 77, of Tellico Village Community, Loudon, Tenn., passed away Thursday morning, April 27, 2000, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Rowan was a member of the First Farragut United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and also taught Disciple bible study. He was retired from Armco Inc. in Middletown, Ohio. Rowan was a graduate of Penn State University with a degree in English, and lettered in five sports. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Marines and later transferring to the Navy flight program. He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Frances Elizabeth Sutter Gordon and Frank Gordon, and his father, Rowan Forsythe Crawford; and two brothers Donald and Douglas Crawford. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Sandra Crawford; children and spouses, Martha Crawford-Schneider and Jeffrey of San Anselmo, Calif., Janet and Alan Coleman of Cincinnati, Ohio, Brian and Kim Crawford of Tampa, Fla., Scott and Barbara Crawford of Raleigh, N.C., Aimee Crawford-Malluck and Jason of Largo, Fla., Tomi DeVer of Cincinnati, Ohio, and David Crouch of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Laura Elizabeth Morningstar, Jeffrey Crawford, Abby DeVer, David Crawford, Colin Crawford, Gabriela Schneider and Bridget Crawford; brothers John Crawford of Rhinelander, Wis., and Walter Crawford and Michael Crawford, of Milwaukee, Wis.; and a sister, Mary Jo Crawford, of Milwaukee, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.

Albert Edwards
Albert "Pete" Edwards, 47, of Middletown, Ohio, passed away Monday, April 24, 2000, at 5:35 a.m. at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born on July 3, 1952, in Indiana and had lived in the Middletown area since 1968. He was employed as a store clerk at Armco/AK Steel Co. for 28 years. Mr. Edwards was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 330 in Trenton. He enjoyed music and played the guitar. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Peter and Patricia Edwards. Among his survivors are his wife of 12 years, Brenda Kellum; three daughters, Kristina Cox, and her husband, Jeffery, Heather Edwards and Patty Edwards, all of Middletown; a son, Damon Edwards of Middletown; a stepson, Gregory Kellum of Middletown; a stepdaughter, Deanna Skidmore of Indiana; two grandsons, Cody and Joey, both of Middletown; and three stepgrandchildren, Brian, Ashley and Kayla, all of Indiana.

Agnes M. Fay
Former Middletown resident Mrs. Agnes M. Fay, 91, of Lancaster, Tenn., died Tuesday, April 25, at her residence. Agnes was born in Delaware, Ohio, on Dec. 24, 1908. She was the daughter of Charles and Roseanna (Joyce) Strickler. She moved to Middletown at the age of 2 when her father took the position as engineer for the Middletown Water Works. She attended Charles Street school before moving to Delaware after her father's death, and then to Dayton, Ohio, where she graduated in 1922 from Holy Angels. Upon returning to Middletown, she attended and graduated from Middletown High School in 1926. Agnes was active in both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. For many years she was remembered as the person whom George Verity had asked to help select a site for the future Girl Scout camp, which she did with pride. It was later known as Camp Middlemoor. During World War II, she volunteered many hours with the Red Cross in training first aid classes. She served on the Children's Board for eight years at the Hamilton Children's Home. In April 1997, she was honored by Drs. Perkins and Buchert as their first employee when they started their practice together on Main Street. She left this position in later years to help her husband in his business full time, first at Fay Tire and later Fay Pipe and Piling. She was a member of the American Red Cross, American Business and Professional Women, Elks Socialites and the Smiling Grandmothers. Mrs. Fay was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Roseanna Strickler; sisters Ruth O'Barr, Clare Skatzes and Frances Cogan; brother Leon Strickler; husband J. Eugene "Gene" Fay; and son James "Jimm" Fay. She is survived by two children, Sandra (Jim) Stafford of Tennessee and Irene (Jim) Rhoads of Miamisburg; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Mass of Christian Burial will be at Holy Trinity Church of Holy Family Parish at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 29, with her nephew, Father David Fay as celebrant. Visitation is today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home.

Irma S. Groves
EATON -- Mrs. Irma S. Groves, 84, of Middletown, Ohio, formerly of Eaton, Ohio, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born on June 3, 1915, in Camden, Ohio, to the late Clarence and Alberta (Johnson) Steel and lived most of her life in Preble County. Mrs. Groves was a retired cashier from Miller's IGA Store in Eaton. She was a member of the Eaton United Church of Christ and a graduate of Camden High School. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold S. Groves Sr., on March 17, 1996; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Cox; a grandson, Michael Scott Cox; and two brothers, Samuel Steel and Vernon Steel. She is survived by a son and his wife, Harold S. and Judy Groves Jr. of Middletown; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a brother, Norman Steel of Somerville; and nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St., Eaton, with the Rev. William Whitley officiating. Norma J. Hall
Mrs. Norma J. Hall, 84, of Middletown, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2000, at Garden Manor Retirement Village. She was born in Toledo, Ohio, on Aug. 20, 1915, and lived in the Middletown area for 26 years. Mrs. Hall was a registered pharmacist and was employed at Segal Drug Store for 10 years before retiring in 1956. She was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest L. Hall in 1987; a brother, Carl Wechsel; and an infant sister. Surviving are a son, Bill Hall (Christine) of Franklin, Ohio; a grandson, Joshua Hall of Franklin; and two sisters-in-law, Luella Wechsel of Toledo and Edna Selby of Hurricane, W.Va. The family wishes to give their special thanks to the Garden Manor staff for all their love and support.

Marion L. Haller
Marion L. "Hoss" Haller, 74, of Middletown, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born in Miamisburg, Ohio, on Oct. 23, 1925, and lived in this area most of his life. He served in the Army during World War II. Mr. Haller had worked as a shipping clerk at Black-Clawson, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Orioles and Disabled American Veterans. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mable (Whitt) Haller in 1987; a sister, Carole Cook; two brothers, Raymond and John Cook; and his parents, Walter and Maria Cook. He leaves a daughter, R. Diana Demostenes (Paul) of Middletown; three sons, H. Michael Brewer (Patricia) of West Harrison, Ind., L. Stephen Brewer of Los Angeles, Calif., and Charles R. Brewer (Vikki) of Monroe, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruby Blair; and two brothers, Jim Cook and Jerry Cook.

J. Scott Hayes
J. Scott Hayes, 33, of Ridgewood, N.J., died Friday, April 28, 2000. He was born in Middletown, Ohio, and was a resident of West Chester, Pa., before moving to Ridgewood, N.J. Scott was an insurance brokerage manager for Bisys in New York City. Surviving are his wife, Amy (Schultheiss) Hayes; his children, Alyssa, Lauren and Travis; his parents, John and Marilyn (Mandzak) Hayes of Middletown, Ohio; his sister, Betsy Hayes of Cincinnati, Ohio; and his maternal grandmother, Rita Mandzak of Middletown, Ohio.

Anna Mae King
Anna Mae King, 66, of Germantown, passed away Friday, April 28, 2000, at Kettering Medical Center. She attended the Full Gospel Outreach in Middletown. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and a sister. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ray Roberts Jr. and wife, Trish of Franklin; three daughters and sons-in-law, Trish Abner and husband, Jim of Germantown, Rita Abner and husband, Ralph of Miamisburg and Vickie Boggs of Somerville, Ohio; a brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Ann Hale of Miamisburg; a sister and brother-in-law, Reba and Clarence Noble of Miamisburg; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Virginia G. Lever
LEBANON -- Mrs. Virginia G. (Geist) Lever, 89, of Lebanon, Ohio, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at the Otterbein-Lebanon Retirement Community. She was born on Oct. 15, 1910, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Clifford W. and Elsa Ann (Fuhrmann) Geist. She was a 1932 graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a bachelor of arts degree in zoology. Mrs. Lever was a member of several groups including the AAUW, the Loveland Historical Society, the Springboro Historical Society, the OMT, the Stitch and Chatter, and the 10 O'Clock Scholars. In 1998, she was awarded the Woman of the Year Award from the Covenant Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Lever was a charter member of the Clearcreek Township Garden Club, a member of the AMICAE, and the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, John E. Lever. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Sally, and her husband, David K. Adams, of Middletown and Mary Lever, and her husband, Dick Crews, of Midlothian, Va.; five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be Saturday, May 6, from 10 to 11 a.m., with a memorial service immediately following at 11 a.m. at the Otterbein-Lebanon Chapel. The Rev. Denver Noggle will officiate. Interment will follow at Heritage Hills Cemetery.

Mrs. Beulah E. "Boots" (McKee) Long, 84, of Brooklyn Heights (Cleveland), Ohio, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2000. She was born in Middletown, Ohio, on May 10, 1915, to Ova McKee and Esther (Sellers) McKee. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert F. Long; dear mother of Robert M. (June) Long, Jack T. (Jean) Long, Timothy D. (Nancy) Long and Shirley (Terry) Stineman; dear grandmother of Shannon, Bobby, Cindy, Johnny, Kim, Sandy, T.J., Julie and Corey; great-grandmother of Colin Patrick and Spencer; dear sister of Matts, Beets, Kate, Jim and many deceased brothers and sisters; and sister-in-law of Don Long.

FRANKLIN -- Frank McIntosh, 62, of Franklin, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at Sycamore Hospital in Miamisburg. He was born on July 4, 1937, in Blue Diamond, Ky., the son of Clarence and Ressie (Harper) McIntosh. Frank was a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of AMVETS and Eagles Lodge 2309. He is survived by two daughters, Gale Meade of Moraine and Christy McIntosh of Franklin; a son, Tim McIntosh of Middletown; a stepson, Terry Parker of Franklin; two sisters, Della McQuinn of Dayton and Pauleen Barbee of Miamisburg; two brothers, Wayne McIntosh of Dayton and Kermit McIntosh of Kettering; six nieces and nephews, William Aaron, Richard Keith, Sharon Kaye, Tracie Lynn Pyburn, John Burge and Debbie Fletcher.

Adrianne Miller-Welch, 22, of Middletown, passed away Friday, April 28, 2000, at 7:20 a.m. at University of Cincinnati Hospital where she had been a patient for three days. She was born Sept. 4, 1977 in Middletown and had lived here all her life. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Emil Miller and stepfather, Tim Markland. She is survived by her husband, Micah Welch; one son, Jacob Seth Welch at home; Momma, Charlotte Markland of Middletown; Daddy, Don R. Miller of Middletown; one sister, Jessica Miller of Middletown; one brother, Ryan Miller of Middletown; paternal grandmother, Nellie Miller of Middletown; maternal grandparents, Charles and Gerema Egleston of Middletown and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mary Lou Morrison
Mary Lou Morrison, 70, of Lebanon since 1947 and formerly of Kentucky, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at Willow Knoll Retirement Community. She was born in Wide Creek, Ky., on July 24, 1929, to Wilson and Dovie (Combs) Burton. Mary Lou dedicated 17 years to Morrison Real Estate and was very active with the Christian Science Society of Lebanon. She also enjoyed gardening and cooking. Her parents; two brothers, Lemuel and Willard Burton, and one sister, Rheba Campbell, all preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Richard "Dick" Morrison Sr.; one son, Richard "Dick" Morrison Jr. and his wife, Phyllis of Franklin; one daughter, Jody Frasik and her husband, Art Jr. of Lebanon; two grandchildren, Mary Jean Foster and Benjamin Foster; two brothers, James Burton of Lebanon and Dale Burton of Wide Creek, Ky., and two sisters, Elizabeth Slusher of Morrow and Loberta Freeman of Newark, Ohio.

Ermon R. Neathery
Mrs. Ermon Ryan Neathery, 79, of Middletown, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. She was born in Albany, Ky., on Aug. 3, 1920, the daughter of Ransom Leonard and Lula (Campbell) Leonard. Mrs. Neathery was a longtime member of the Presbyterian Church. She was still currently working and operating the Pre-School School in Monroe. She leaves two sons, Allen Kent Neathery of Monroe and William A. (Rita) Neathery of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Eleanor Jean Lakin of Columbus, Ga., a brother, Eugene P. Leonard of Hoopeston, Ill.; a sister, Myrtle Felton of Star City, Ark.; and six grandchildren, Jody and Jennifer Neathery, Heather, Christopher and Brian Lakin, and Larry Lakin Jr. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Allen Neathery in 1986; her parents; and five sisters.

Charles R. Perkins Jr.
Charles R. "Bob" Perkins Jr., 62, of Middletown, went to be with our Lord Tuesday evening, April 25, 2000. He was born in Middletown on March 11, 1938, the son of Charles R. Perkins and Dorothy Ward Schwettman. Mr. Perkins had been employed by the State of Michigan Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1974. He was the league secretary of the Saturday night mixed doubles bowling league at Eastern Lanes. He had served as treasurer of Middletown Knothole Baseball for seven years and was also actively involved in the Middletown Peewee Football program. Mr. Perkins was a member of the Pentecostal House of Prayer. He was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Beverly Perkins; four sons, David Leach, and his wife, Lou, and Allen Leach, Donald Leach, and Ronnie Leach, and his wife, Heather, all of Middletown; a daughter, Debbie, and her husband, Rick Henry, of Middletown; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; and many loving friends and family.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home, with the Rev. Rick Henry officiating. Visitation will be held Friday at the funeral home from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery. Cary B. Pummill
FRANKLIN -- Cary B. Pummill, 88, of Franklin, Ohio, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2000, at the Franklin Ridge Nursing Home. He was born in Greenfield, Ohio, on June 27, 1911, and was a lifelong resident of this area. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Pummill was a meat cutter. He had worked for Salmon's Market for 40 years before retiring in 1976. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Mahala Pummill; four sisters, May, Alma, Maud and Ethel; and three brothers, Fred, Orville and Raymond. Several nieces and nephews survive.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services are set for 10:30 a.m. today at Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home. The Rev. Everett Crockett will officiate. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., prior to the service. Interment will be at Woodside Mausoleum.

James Baxter Roberts Jr., 52, of Middletown, died Sunday, April 30, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born on Oct. 24, 1947, in Campton, Ky., the son of James Baxter Roberts and Albertie (Dobson) Roberts. Mr. Roberts was employed as a pipe-fitter at Sorg Paper Co. He is survived by two daughters, Teresa Carmody and Terri Forester, both of Middletown; two sons, Anthony Roberts of Gratis and James B. Roberts IV of Middletown; eight grandchildren; a sister, Brenda Caudill of Middletown; two brothers, Don Roberts of Carlisle and Rick Roberts of Hamilton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mrs. Roberta (McGraw) Romans, 84, of Middletown, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born in Shelbyville, Ind., on June 24, 1915, the daughter of Robert Leslie and Margaret (Ford) McGraw. Mrs. Romans was a very active member of Christ United Methodist Church, singing its choir for more than 30 years. She was also an Elks Socialite and a member of the American Business Women's Association. She is survived by her husband, Ernest Romans of Middletown; a son, Michael F. (Kathleen D.) Romans of Middletown; a daughter, Rita Beth (Bill) Hickman of Middletown; two brothers, Elmer McGraw of Middletown and Harold (Patsy) McGraw of Trenton; a sister, Ruth Steele of Carlisle; six grandchildren, Todd (Vicki) Hickman, Tim (Christy) Hickman, Terry (Lori) Hickman, Betsy (Mark) Campbell and Emily and Julie Romans; and three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Brittany and Rance Hickman. Mrs. Romans was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Leslie and Margaret McGraw; three brothers, Eugene "Spec" McGraw, Earl "Fox" McGraw and Paul "Scotty" McGraw; and two sisters, Bernadine Yenser and Freda Wilson.
