Frances Achtermann
Frances Achtermann, 83, of 431 Sunnybrook, Franklin, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
She was born Aug. 21, 1917, in Morrow, Ohio, the daughter of Frank and Glenna "Simpson" Whitacre. She was a longtime member of Franklin First United Methodist Church, and started the Willing Workers, a group making crafts to sell for the benefit of the church. She was named Woman of the Year in May 2000.
She was an avid seamstress, employed by Rikes Department Store, and made more than 30 quilts.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Philip Edward Achtermann; three sons, Philip (Lorna) of Spring Valley, Roger (JoAnn) of Waynesville and Marvin (Georgia) of Springboro; a daughter, Janet Click; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Anderson Funeral Home, 40 N. Main St., Springboro, with the Rev. Dale Lykins officiating. Burial will be at Miami Valley Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Eliza 'Esther' Back
Eliza "Esther" Back, 88, of Middletown, died Sunday morning at Middletown Regional Hospital.
She attended Grace Baptist Church, was a member of Moose Lodge 501, Eagles 528 and Middletown Senior Citizens. She had been employed by Duff's Cafe as a cook and at Aeronca as a riveter. She had lived in Middletown since 1941. She was born in Wolf County, Ky., on Dec. 7, 1912. Her parents, John and Esther Shockey, preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sons, Joseph (Connie) Back and James Lee Back, both of Middletown; two daughters, Wanda Wills of Trenton and Glenna (James) Dunn of Middletown; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: one son, Gary Winfred Back; one grandson, Joshua Taylor Back; three brothers, Raymond, Beach and Samuel Shockey; and four sisters, Bonnie Kash, Evalee Arnett, Ruby Pettit and Pauline Lindon.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Spencer officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. at Bonita Drive.
Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.

FRANKLIN -- Mrs. Georgia Back, 76, of 5541 Glendell Drive, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
She was born in Jeremiah, Ky., on Oct. 7, 1924, the daughter of Cleveland and Malva (Fields) Caudill.
Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Joe Back; a son, Roger Back of Franklin; a daughter, Diane Turner of Carlisle; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Bruce S. Bowman
Bruce S. Bowman, 52, of Mason, Ohio, formerly of Lebanon, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Bethesda North Hospital.
He was born in Columbus, Ohio, on Aug. 21, 1948, to Dr. B. J. Bowman and Inez (Vance) Bowman.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Nick Bowman; and two sisters, Becky Bowman and Robyn Bowman Kemp.
He is survived by a brother-in-law, Tom Kemp, and a niece, Rebecca Tealoff, both of Kettering, Ohio.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Lebanon, with Father Lou Hohlmayer as celebrant. Interment will follow in Lebanon Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the church prior to Mass.

Mrs. M. Lorine Capozzi, 76, of Middletown, passed away on Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, in Tampa, Fla.
She is survived by her husband, Tony Capozzi of Middletown and Tampa, Fla.; a daughter, Kathryn Capozzi Scallon of Tampa; two sisters, Eva Hampton and Thelma Spivey, both of Middletown; and a brother, Bill Hampton of Las Vegas, Nev.

Tim F. Dunlap, 58, of Middletown, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at his residence.
He was born in Middletown, Ohio, on Oct. 29, 1942, the son of the late Leman and Gertrude (Coyle) Dunlap. Mr. Dunlap was a member of Solid Rock Church. He worked as an inspector for Armco/AK Steel Co. for 28 years.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene K. Dunlap; two sons Tim J. and John L. Dunlap, both of Middletown; a daughter, Jaclyn (Shawn) Dunlap-Herd of Middletown; a brother, Leman L. (Dorothy) Dunlap of Franklin; a sister, Nancy J. (Arthur) Rossi of Middletown; and five grandchildren, Sommer Davis, Cheyenne Herd, and Devon, Maliki and Nathaniel Dunlap.

Beatrice Dunn
Mrs. Beatrice "Bea" Dunn, 82, of Middletown, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, surrounded by her family and loved ones at the Hospice of Dayton.
She was born on Oct. 4, 1918, in Morgan County, Ky., the daughter of the late Floyd Cochran and Nanny (Cox) Cochran. She and Elza Dunn were married on Oct. 11, 1939. Before Mrs. Dunn's illness, she attended the Poasttown Church of God.
She leaves to cherish her life, love and memories, two daughters, Judi (husband Bill) Howard of Germantown, Ohio, and Helen (husband Roy Lee) Clark of Wilmington, Ohio; two sons, Kenneth R. (wife Shirley) Dunn of Kingman, Ariz., and Omer S. Dunn of Middletown; grandchildren Donna, Tammy, Melanie and Bobby Dunn, Lisa (husband Mark) Hill, Patty (husband Tony) Baker, Russel Dunn, Joseph Howard, and his fianc饬 Lisa Johnson, William Jay (wife Jill) Howard, Steven (wife Jennifer) Clark, Adam (wife Melissa) Clark and Maryann (husband William) McCarty; 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; special nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and the many friends she had throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Elza Dunn, on Oct. 31, 1988; a son, Russel Leonard Dunn; two granddaughters, Shelly Rae Clark and Ivory Michele Howard; two sisters, Mary Couch and Vernice Dunn; brothers Clyde, Oren, Bob and Omer Cochran; and a very special niece, Maudie J. McCall.

Wallace Feltner
FRANKLIN -- Wallace Feltner, 70, of 442 Greenup Court, Franklin, passed away Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
He was born in Allais, Ky., on February 26, 1930, the son of Mose and Ella "Deaton" Feltner. Mr. Feltner was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving from 1950-1952 as a U.S. Army paratrooper. He was employed by American Materials as a plant operator for 37 years, retiring in 1995.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Lake, in March of 2000.
He is survived by a son, Larry Feltner of Franklin; daughters, Patricia Younts and husband Don of Tampa, Fla., Karen Barnes and husband Paul and Teresa Faulkner and husband Elmer, both of Franklin, and Ella Carder and husband Shawn of Middletown; brothers, Ozial and wife Belle of Hamilton, Don and wife Joyce and Mose Jr. and wife Linda, both of Indiana and Bob and wife Kathy of Kentucky; sisters, Norma Turner of Kentucky, Julia Turner and husband Chuck of Pennsylvania and Lois Jones and husband Preston of Hamilton; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mary Loretta Frye
Mrs. Mary Loretta Frye, 78, of Middletown, Ohio, passed away Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at 8 a.m. at her residence. She was born Jan. 9, 1922, to John W. and Elizabeth (King) Goodwin.
Loretta and her family moved to Middletown in 1960. She was a homemaker and former Sunday school teacher and vacation Bible school teacher. She had been a member of the First Church of God for many years. Loretta and her husband, Joseph, were married for more than 55 years. They loved to raise a garden together every summer. They also loved to travel, visiting 48 of the 50 states.
She was preceded in death by: parents John W. and Elizabeth (King) Goodwin; three sisters, Eunice Hon, Naomi Goodwin and Catherine Goodwin; and two brothers, Virgil and Frank Goodwin.
She is survived by: her husband of 55 years, Joseph; two sons, James (Susan) Frye and John (Becky) Frye, both of Middletown; one granddaughter, Marianne (Chris) Bowling; one grandson, Joe (Brandie) Frye; one great-granddaughter, Reagan Frye; one great-grandson, Cody Bowling; two sisters, Venice Martin of Versailles, Ky., and Ann Neff of Jonesville, Va.; one brother, John (Iwana) Goodwin of Cabin Creek, W.Va.; and one sister-in-law, Alwena Goodwin of Stanton, Ky.

Jack E. Graham
FRANKLIN -- Jack Eugene Graham, 69, of 129 E. Sixth St., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at the Veterans Hospital in Dayton. He was born in Santa Ana, Calif., on Sept. 10, 1931, the son of Fred and Leona (Wineberger) Gray Jr. Mr. Graham was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the U.S. Army. He was a former manager of the Franklin Golf Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Rick Graham.
He is survived by his sons, Mark Graham of Worcester, Mass., and Jay Graham of Hensley, Alaska; daughters Margo DeThomas of Kenneth City, Fla., and June Skiest of Millbury, Mass.; a stepbrother, Fred Gray, and a stepsister, Joyce Gray, both of Dayton; and eight grandchildren.

Louise Gray
Louise Pauline Gray, 76, of Trenton, died Dec. 26, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
She was born March 30, 1924, in Middletown, daughter of Bob and Mary Stover.
She was a homemaker associated with Girl Scouts of Trenton and Middletown and the PTA of Trenton. She was a graduate of Monroe High School, Class of 1942. She was a loving and caring person, devoted to her family. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert Gray of Trenton; daughter and son-in-law Mary Jane and Keith Fox of Miamisburg; grandsons Brian and Nana Fox of Camden, Greg and Jennifer Fox of West Alexandria and Jason Fox of Miamisburg; three great-grandchildren Brandon, Madison and Kirsten; four brothers, Bob Stover, Lionel Stover and Dick Stover, all of Middletown, and Don and Jenny Stover of West Elkton, Ohio; four sisters, Margie Schouse and Marilyn Buckner, both of Middletown, Norma Ward of Trenton and Betty Guilbert of Dayton; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Etta Haney
Mrs. Etta Haney, 74, of Middletown, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at Willow Knoll Nursing Center after a long bout with Alzheimer's disease. She had been a patient there since July 3. She was previously a patient at the Hawthorn Glen Nursing Center.
She was born on Nov. 8, 1926, in Middletown, Ohio, and had lived here all her life. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Haney had also worked in the cafeteria for the Madison School District. She was a member of the Charles Street First Church of God where her husband is the pastor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Vincent and Alice (Ingram) Dickerson; an infant son, Lawrence Haney Jr.; two sisters, Margaret Clifford and Virginia Noble; and a brother, William Dickerson.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Rev. Lawrence G. Haney; two sons, Larry Haney, and his wife, Sharon, of Madison Township, Butler County, Ohio, and Donald Haney, and his wife, Priscilla, of Middletown; a daughter, Andanena Charles, and her husband, Terry, of Middletown; five grandchildren, Lori Klinefelter, and her husband, James, Michael Haney, Heather Haney and Tammy Haney and Kelley Charles; four great-grandchildren, Cara, Kelsey and Amanda Klinefelter and Regan Haney; a sister, Ruby Conley of Middletown; and a brother, John Dickerson, and his wife, Dorene, of Trenton; and several nieces and nephews.

Denise Hartbarger, 27, of Miami Beach, Fla., died Dec. 27, 2000.
She was born on Aug. 7, 1973, in Middletown, Ohio. Denise worked as a waitress at various restaurants.
She is survived by her daughter, Alexis Griggs; her mother, Nancy Hartbarger; a sister, Wendy Geis; three brothers, Dan, Darrell and Mike Hartbarger, all of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews.

SEVEN MILE -- Mrs. D. Eileen Hayes, 76, of Seven Mile, died at 5:15 a.m. Monday, Dec. 25, 2000.
She was born in Zanesville, the daughter of Charles and Grace (Lashley) Stephens. She married the Rev. Robert L. Hayes on Nov. 24, 1945, in Zanesville. He preceded her in death on March 21, 1990. She was a member of the Jacksonburg United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women of the church and the WATAMA Club of Seven Mile.
She is survived by three sons, R. David Hayes and wife Deborah of Matthews, NC, Paul D. Hayes and wife Donna of Trenton and the Rev. L. Stephen Hayes and wife Karen of North Hampton, Ohio; one daughter, Mary E. Banks of Cincinnati; a niece, Judy Boling and husband Dick of Hamilton; two sisters, Louella Allen and Geneva Simmons, both of Crooksville, Ohio; a very special sister-in-law, Flo Hutchins of Tulsa, Okla.; nine grandchildren, Adam Groves, Ryan Hayes, Shana Ramsey, Mindy Stout, Carrie Hayes, Rob Hayes, Katie Hayes, Kim Schumacher and Kasey Schumacher; two great-grandchildren, Zachery Ramsey and Owen Ramsey, and nieces, nephews and many friends.

Della Hensley
Della Hensley, 83, of Middletown, died Saturday, Dec. 30 at Middletown Regional Hospital.
She was born Nov. 12, 1917, in Breathitt County, Ky., the daughter of Patrick Howard and Shrilda (McIntosh) Howard. Mrs. Hensley was a member of the Abundant Life Worship Center.
She is survived by three daughters, Betty Weathers of Middletown, Vernia Roe of Jonesboro, Ga., and Mary Chaney of Monroe; one son, Odes Hensley of Baldwin, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and one brother, Dexter Howard of Middletown.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Hensley on Nov. 18, 1984, and her parents.

Luther L. Hillard
MONROE -- Luther L. Hillard, 78, of Monroe, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
He was born in Danville, Ky., one of 12 children to Bennett and Maddie Hillard. Mr. Hillard was a member of Franklin Bible Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He earned an Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with two bronze service stars, a Good Conduct Medal, a Meritorious unit award, and a WWII Victory Medal. He worked for Armco Steel for 31 years as a truck driver.
He is survived by his wife, Bessie (Hanks) Hillard of Monroe and a daughter, Cheryl Lynn Baker of Middletown.

James Hounshell
James Hounshell, 76, of Kensington Place, formerly of Trenton, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born Sept. 11, 1924, in Lee County, Va., the son of Albert Hounshell and Hattie (Martin) Hounshell.
Mr. Hounshell worked as a machine operator for Sorg Paper Co.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Gerry and Carl Gentry of Trenton, and Kaye and Tim Sebastian of Germantown; a son, Larry Hounshell of Idaho; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Eck Hounshell of Knoxville, Tenn., Chic Hounshell of Franklin, and Leroy Hounshell of Taono, Va.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Loretta Hounshell, on Dec. 16, and a brother and a sister.

Helen C. Whiteted Jenkins
BLUE BALL -- Helen C. Whiteted Jenkins, 89, of Blue Ball, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at the Dayton Heart Hospital.
She was born on March, 23, 1911 in Silver Creek, Ky., and was a lifelong resident of Blue Ball. She operated the House of Fabrics Drapery Shop for 10 years and retired in 1975. She was a member of the Blue Ball Presbyterian Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands Lee Whiteted, in 1984, and Ray Jenkins and two brothers, Howard and Nolan Chrisman.
Surviving are two sons, Howard L. Whiteted of Wilmington, N.C., and Monte Whiteted of Blue Ball; two daughters, Carolyn Doliboa of Blue Ball and Beverly Phibbs and husband Ralph of Hunter; two sisters, Doris Savage of Middletown and Gladys Forbes of Miamisburg; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

James R. Johnson, 91, of Waynesville, died Friday, Dec. 29 at the Quaker Heights Care Facility in Waynesville .
Born in Middletown, the son of James Blaine and Matilda (Sears) Johnson, he retired from Armco Steel in Middletown.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rosellen (Morris) of Waynesville; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Joel Moore of Lebanon; grandchildren, Joel Todd Moore and his wife, Sherry of Lebanon and Whitney Ann Wilson of Georgia and great grandchildren Logan Moore and Jordan Wilson.

Terry Dean "Toddy" Johnson departed this life on Dec. 25, 2000, at the age of 49 at the VA Hospital in Dayton. Mr. Johnson was born Dec. 20, 1951, in Middletown, to the union of Mayme and Jesse Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Johnson, and his brother, George Morton.
Terry joined Second Baptist Church in Franklin at an early age when Rev. Kirby was the pastor. He graduated from Franklin High School in May 1970. After high school, he worked at the GM assembly plant in Lordstown, Ohio. When he was laid off at GM in 1972, he decided to join the U.S. Army from which he was honorably discharged.
Terry was known by all who loved him as Toddy. Even after an auto accident in 1973, which left him a quadriplegic, his disposition and spirit was always uplifting. He never asked for anything but was always willing to give others a helping hand.
Toddy leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, Mayme Morton Johnson; a daughter, Erica Dean Johnson; a granddaughter, Chelsea Dawn Albright; four brothers, Hummons (Debbie) Morton of Clearwater, Fla., Richard (Ruth) Morton of Akron, Melvin (Paula) Morton of Dayton, and Daryl Johnson of Monroe; three sisters, Yvonne M. Brown (Sonny Cobb) of Franklin, Norma J. Morton of Middletown, and Carol A. Jones of Columbus; five aunts; three uncles; 17 nieces; eight nephews; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews, many cousins, other relatives and friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, at Second Baptist Church, 116 S. Verity Parkway, with the Rev. N.L. Cooper officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Saturday until the time of service. Arrangements are by Johnson Brown Funeral Service, Cincinnati.
James Kirby
James Kirby, 31, of Middletown, passed away as a result of an auto accident on Ohio 63 in Warren County on Friday, Dec. 28, 2000, at 3:45 p.m. He was born in Hamilton on June 12, 1969.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge 501, an avid University of Cincinnati basketball fan and was employed as a brick mason for Miter Masonry Co. of Cincinnati for the last five years. On June 6, 1991, in Hamilton, he was married to Heather Knapp.
He is survived by his wife, Heather Kirby of Middletown; two sons, James Patrick Kirby and Robert Tyler Kirby, both of Middletown; three aunts, Terri (Brent) Blevins of Sardinia, Ohio, Debbie Mills of Hamilton and Kelly (Brian) Sanders of West Chester; and two uncles, Bobbie Kirby of Hillsboro, Ohio, and Kenneth Kirby of Cincinnati. He is also survived by his in-laws, Robert (Bonnie) Knapp of Hamilton, Patricia (Terry) Sexton of Norwood, Robert Knapp Jr. of Reading, Judith (Stuart) Buchanan of Springdale, Jennifer (Gary) Betz of Middletown and Brian (Linda) Knapp of Milan, Ind.; and by a very special friend, Larry Zimmerer of Trenton. He was preceded in death by his mother, Cathy Kirby.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held at the Brown Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Ave., Hamilton, at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Dale French of the Ross Avenue Church of God officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from noon until 2 p.m. Wednesday. The family requests memorials be made to a trust fund for his sons, James and Robert, to be established at a later date.
Katy C. Lengyel
Katy C. Lengyel, 68, of Middletown, died Saturday morning at her residence. She was a member of Holy Family Parish, and sang in the choir at Holy Trinity Church. She retired in 1985 from Armco as a secretary in the purchasing department.
She was born in Middletown on Sept. 29, 1932. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Caroline Swaim.
She is survived by her husband, Frank A. Lengyel; five daughters, Sandra (Stan) Butcher of Middletown, Diana (Don) Schott of South Bend, Ind., Cindy Downey of Middletown, Barbara (Tim) Frisch of Kokomo, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Josh Lengyel, Jonathan Frisch, Nate Ellis, Isaac Downey, Katy Frisch, Stacy Frisch and Susanne Schott; one great-grandchild, Tytus Miller, and a loved one, Martha Whalen of Pueblo, Colo.
ARRANGEMENTS: Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family-Holy Trinity Church with Father George Klein celebrant. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Ave. Entombment will be at Woodside Cemetery Mausoleum.

Edwin Lorig Jr.
MONROE -- Edwin T. Lorig Jr., 81, of 112 Maumee Drive, Monroe, passed away at his residence Sunday morning.
He was born in Mobile, Ala., March 5, 1919, son of Edwin and Oressa (Phillips) Lorig, and was a purchasing agent for Armco Steel, retiring in 1983 after 33 years of service.
He graduated from the University of Michigan, class of 1942. Mr. Lorig was a veteran of the Army Corps of Engineers, serving in the China-Burma-India theater during World War II. Following his retirement, he volunteered as a driver for the American Red Cross, and also was a volunteer at Middletown Hospital for 16 years. He attended St. Paul's United Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Amanda (Platt) Lorig; two daughters, Peggy Crews (husband Russell) of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Nancy Brown (husband David) of Indianapolis, Ind.; son, Robert E. Lorig (wife Connie) of DePere, Wis.; four grandchildren, Catherine Brown of Boston, Mass., John Brown (wife Laura) of York, Pa., and Carrie Lorig and Grace Lorig, both of DePere, Wis.; and a brother, Glenn Lorig of Hillsborough, NJ.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Grace Campbell.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home with the Rev. Susan Jones Thompson officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral home.

Emma Marshall
"Granny" Emma Marshall, 71, formerly of 816 15th Ave., died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Mount Pleasant Retirement Village in Monroe, Ohio.
Granny Emma was born on Feb. 22, 1929, in Middletown, Ohio, to the late Frank and Viola Mahone. She lived in Middletown for 71 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elgin Marshall, and a grandson, Teray Damone Marshall.
Mrs. Marshall was a member of United Missionary Baptist Church and also attended Faith Fellowship with her children.
She leaves to cherish her memory a brother, Frank Mahone Jr. (Rebecca) of Dayton, Ohio; two sons, Robert E. Marshall Sr. (Deidre) of Middletown and Gary L. Marshall (Sheila) of Minneapolis, Minn.; four daughters, all of Middletown, Jacquelyn E. Anderson (Donald), Claudia L. Burg, Iva N. Brown (Frank) and Patricia E. Herndon (Charles); 21 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, at United Missionary Baptist Church, 18th and Minnesota Street, with the Rev. Gregory Tyus officiating and Rev. Alvin Richardson, eulogist. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the church.

Amy L. McCarn
Amy Lee McCarn, 22, of Middletown, died Saturday, Dec. 29 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
She was born May 9, 1978, in Middletown. She worked at Worthington Plastics in Mason and Lone Star Steak House in Middletown.
She is survived by her mother, Alex Lindvall of Middletown; father, Dale McCarn of Dayton; stepfather, John Leet of Middletown; sisters Felicia Lindvall of Dayton and Melony Donhoe of Minnesota; grandfather, Bayard McCarn of Germantown, and grandparents Imogene and Ray Johnson of Middletown; aunts Vicki (Gerald) Reno of Germantown, Rae Jean Johnson of Middletown; cousins Jessica Reno and Jami Reno, both of Germantown; and numerous other aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a grandmother, Laura McCarn in 1999, and a grandfather, Roger Lindvall, in 1995.

Peter L. O'Quist
TRENTON -- Mr. Peter L. "Swede" O'Quist, 80, of Trenton, passed away at 11:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital, where he had been a patient for two weeks.
He was born Feb. 19, 1920 in Mora, Minn., and had lived in the Middletown area for 50 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a medic. He stormed Normandy Beach during the D-day invasion. As a teenager, he boxed professionally in Mora. He also served as a deputy sheriff there. He worked in construction for McGraw Construction for 30 years, retiring in 1980.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eric and Hannah (Neilson) O'Quist; his wife, Helen M. (Cavolt) O'Quist, in 2000; five brothers, Andy, Edward, George, Aron and Anard, and a sister, Florence.
He is survived by one brother, Don O'Quist and wife Grace of Grand Rapids, Minn.; one sister, Elsie O'Quist of Minnesota; a niece, with whom he made his home, Arlene Helsinger and husband Jerry of Trenton; four great-nephews, Jerry Helsinger II and wife Sunni, Jonathan Helsinger, Jeffrey Helsinger and Michael Hiatt and wife Judy of Trenton; three great-nieces, Suzanne McKinley, who assisted with his care, her husband Jeff, Teresa Hiatt, and Lisa Hunt and husband Marc; four great-great-nephews, Andrew McKinley, Jerry Helsinger III, Marc Hunt Jr. and Jacob Hiatt and a great-great-niece, Emily Hiatt.
ARRANGEMENTS: Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Butler County Memorial Park, Trenton, with the Rev. Carol Oetzel officiating. Graveside military services will be by the American Legion Post 218 Honor Guard. There will be no visitation.

Beatrice Skinner
FRANKLIN -- Mrs. Beatrice Skinner, 78, of Stadia Drive, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born on Jan. 27, 1922, in Warren County, Ohio, the daughter of Foster and Matilda (Hartsock) Mote.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Skinner is survived by her husband of 58 years, Lawrence; a son, Doug of Franklin; a daughter, Sandra Miller, and her husband, Herb, of Springboro; and a grandson, Zachary.

Mary Ellen Vance
Mary Ellen Vance, 75, of Somerville, formerly of Vance Fork, Ky., passed away Thursday, Dec. 28. A native of Morgan County, Ky., she was born Dec. 20, 1925, to the late Gobel and Hazel (Manning) Vance.
She retired from General Motors-Harrison Radiator Division in 1979 after 32 years of service. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Juanita Franks (2000) and her son, Garland Ray Howard (1943); her sister, Venus Easterling, and her brother, Mitchell Vance.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Hershell R. Vance; her daughter and son-in-law, Terry and Coy H. Gayhart of Germantown; her son and daughter-in-law, Timothy H. and Linda Vance of Middletown; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Nell Stossell of Moraine, Lillian Vance of Owensville, Ky., and Vivian Spencer of Winchester; her brother, Jack Vance of Springboro.
