Denise (Yearta) Adams, 35, of 4578 Stubbs Road, Middletown, passed away Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at her residence. She was born April 16, 1964, in Sylacauga, Ala., and lived in Middletown since 1986. She worked as a waitress and was a breeder of tropical birds. She was preceded in death by her father, Buford L. Yearta in 1969; a brother, Dennis Lee Yearta in 1962, and her step-father, Donald S. Paddock in 1972. Survivors include her husband of eight years, Gregory Scott Adams; a son, Dennis Michael Wunn of Middletown; her mother, Lynda I. Yearta of Brandon, Fla.; two sisters, Cathy L. Gately of Cocoa, Fla.; and Donna L. Glisson of Dover, Fla.; two brothers, Kevin W. Yearta of Valrico, Fla., and Terry L. Yearta of Louisville, Ky.; as well as four nephews and two nieces.

Arthur E. Beatty
DAYTON — Arthur E. Beatty, 80, of Dayton, went to his eternal rest on Monday, Feb. 21, 2000. He was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Mr. Beatty retired from Chrysler Corp. after 18 years. He was a member of Solar Lodge No. 730 Free & Accepted Masons. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Eleanor Beatty; sisters, Louise Danielson and Virginia Elizer; brothers-in-law, Don Danielson and James Elizer; son-in-law, David Bogan; and grandson, David N. Bogan. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Mary Beatty; a daughter, Sharon Bogan of Alaska; a son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence and Marilyn Beatty of Kettering; a grandson, Dan Bogan; two granddaughters, Laura Alig and Amanda Beatty; two great-grandsons, Robert and Thomas Alig; two nieces, Vickie Machetti and Sandra Bailey; stepchildren, Thomas Highfield of Florida, Candace Daniel of Dayton, Nancy Collier of Middletown, Jack Highfield of Kentucky, Victoria Patterson of Maineville, and Guy Highfield of Kentucky; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.The family wishes to thank everyone at Grafton Oaks Nursing Center for their love and special care.

Willard E. Bowling
FRANKLIN -- Willard E. Bowling, 80, of Franklin, Ohio, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. The Middletown native was born on April 16, 1919, and was a lifelong Middletown resident. He graduated from Middletown High School in 1938 and then went on the University of Cincinnati where he studied psychology. During World War II, he was a master drill sergeant in the Army, training new recruits. He also served afterward during the Army of occupation. He was the leader of a tank battalion and was stationed in France, Germany and the Phillipine Islands. Mr. Bowling was president of Reeves Jewelers for 42 years. He was a life member of the Middletown Sportsman's Club and the National Rifle Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Nannie Bowling; and recently lost his loyal and close friend, Otis Tekakis. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Mary; a daughter, Nancy Moore, and her husband, Daniel, of Middletown; four grandchildren, Kelly Moore, and wife, Paula, of Middletown, Tessa Decker, and husband, Stephen, of Charlotte, N.C., Kevin Moore, and wife, Barbara, of Chesterfield, Mich., and Tara Moore of Middletown; and five great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home, with the Rev. Nolan Phillips officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Donna M. Bowman
WEST ALEXANDRIA -- Donna M. (Isaacs) Bowman, 82, of West Alexandria, Ohio, passed away Saturday, Feb. 26, at Sycamore Hospital. A native of Hamilton, Ohio, she was born April 11, 1917, to the late Andrew and Dowthula (Webb) Isaacs. She was a member of the First Church of God in Germantown. She was preceded in death by her son, Troy Bowman, in 1987 and two brothers, Donald and Ronald Isaacs. Survivors include three grandchildren, Debbie Buschur and husband Dave of West Alexandria, Trovia Pogue and husband Tom of Riverside, Ohio, and Jennifer Bennett and husband Dave of Miamisburg; five great-grandchildren; an adopted daughter, Sarah Green-Baumann of Seven Mile, Ohio, and her family; special relatives, Davy and Lisa Bowman of Huber Heights and Patsy Bowman of Riverside and a host of other relatives and friends.

Robert G. Brown
FRANKLIN -- Robert G. Brown, 68, of Franklin, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at his residence. Bob was retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base and was an Air Force and Navy veteran. He is survived by his brother, Clifford, and his wife, Ann, of Franklin; and a nephew, Clifford Douglas, and his wife, Cheryl, of Franklin. Bob will always be loved and missed by his family and friends.

Ruth E. Brown
LEBANON -- Ruth Ernestine Brown, 80, a longtime Lebanon resident, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at home. She was born in Blanchester, Ohio, to Sidney Brown Sr. and Alice (Ferkel) Brown and was a graduate of Monroe High School. She worked as a nanny for many families in the area before her 20 years as a waitress for the Golden Lamb and El Toro restaurants in Lebanon. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Stella York, Margaret "Betty" Philips and Christena Crawford. Survivors include a brother, Sidney Brown Jr. of Lebanon; a sister, Ethel Crawford of Lebanon, and many nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday with funeral services immediately following at Oswald-Hoskins Funeral Home, 323 E. Mulberry St., Lebanon, with the Rev. Gary Hughes officiating. Interment will be in Lebanon Cemetery.

Floyd E. Coning
Floyd E. Coning, 81, of Middletown, Ohio, went to be with the Lord and his beloved wife on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital where he had been a patient for 11 days. He had been residing at the Willow Knoll Nursing Center since September 1998. He was born on April 20, 1918, in Randolph County, Ind., and had lived in the Middletown area for 38 years. He served in the Army during World War II. Mr. Coning was employed as a welder in scrap preparation at Armco Steel Co., retiring in 1981. He was a 26-year member of American Legion Post 218. He was preceded in death by his parents, Evert William and Daisy (Spangler) Coning; his wife of 50 years, Florabelle Coning in 1997; a brother, Evert William Coning Jr.; a sister, Dorothy Coning; and two daughters, Diane Arlington and Roberta Coning. Surviving are two sons, Edwin Coning of Middletown and Harvey Eugene Garrison; two daughters, Diana Rhodus, and Jane Moore, and husband, Connie, all of Middletown; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Stanley Coning of Eaton and Paul Coning of Winchester, Ind.; and two sisters, Pattie Carter of Berea, Ohio, and Doris Stephens of Dayton, Ohio.

Brenda S. (Duncan) Cox, 41, of Middletown died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born March 1, 1958, in Dayton and lived in Middletown for five years. She was a member of Abundant Life Tabernacle. Asa B. Creekbaum
TRENTON -- Asa B. Creekbaum, 88, of Trenton, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Garden Manor Extended Care Center in Middletown. He was born in Ezel, Ky., on June 6, 1911, to Millard and Julia (Martin) Creekbaum. Mr. Creekbaum worked for Armco Steel Co. for 38 years. He retired on Nov. 16, 1974, as a crane operator. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 131, American Legion Post 218 and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 501. He leaves his wife, Mary Faeta Creekbaum of Trenton; two stepdaughters, Theresa Mulligan of Trenton and Rose Ann (William) Calfee of Edgewater, Fla.; two brothers, Corbett Creekbaum of Middletown and Elmer Creekbaum of Sidney, Ohio; and a sister, Myrtle Fugate of Williamsburg, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Millard and Julia Creekbaum.

Clarence R. Dicken
FRANKLIN -- Clarence Rae Dicken, 73, of Franklin, passed away Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at his residence. He was born on Oct. 26, 1926, in Gore, Ohio, the son of Sherman and Daisy (Howdyshell) Dicken. Mr. Dicken was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army. He graduated from New Straightsville High School in 1944. He received his bachelor of science degree in education at Ohio University in 1951 and a master's degree in 1957. He was employed by the Franklin City School District in 1958. He became department head of Industrial Arts and was junior class adviser. He retired in 1984 with 34 years in education. Mr. Dicken was a member of the Mingo Lodge Free & Accepted Masons in Logan, Ohio, Harrison Chapter 255, Order of Eastern Star, Harrison, Ohio, William S. Roof Chapter 238 R.S.M in Franklin and the Franklin Lions Club. Mr. Dicken was also a life member of the state teachers system and the Franklin First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Robert Edward and Warren Lee Dicken. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Nell (Rice) Dicken; and two daughters, Mishelle and Trisha, both of Franklin.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 28, at the First United Methodist Church, S. Main Street and W. Third St., Franklin, with the Rev. Dale Lykins officiating. Ruth Dillman
Mrs. Ruth Dillman, 76, of Middletown, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Willow Knoll Retirement Community. She was born on Sept. 23, 1923, in Jackson County, Ky., to Robert and Bertie (Farmer) Gentry. Mrs. Dillman worked for 10 years for Arvin Industries in Franklin, Ind. She retired in 1986. Among her survivors are a brother, Lawson Gentry of Middletown; four sisters, Daisy Martin of London, Ky., and Pearl Gentry, Dottie Stroud and Lillian Pat Donham, all of Middletown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy K. Dillman in 1973; her parents, Robert and Bertie Gentry; two brothers, Lonnie and Howard Gentry; and three sisters, Dorothy Issacs, Geneva Steele and Pauline Gentry.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, with the Rev. Nolan Phillips officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

James Dokas Jr.
James Dokas Jr., 72, of Marriottsville, Md., died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at his home. He was born on Oct. 4, 1927, in Middletown, Ohio, the son of Markaleta Huntsberger of Trenton, Ohio, and the late James Dokas Sr. He was the husband of Mary T. Dokas. He was a graduate of Ohio State University. He was a sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II, serving in most of the islands in the South Pacific. Mr. Dokas had been a real estate broker with his business, Old Colonial Real Estate. He was an electrical engineer with Westinghouse. He was also a noted mathematician and had several works printed in mathematics journals, including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers publication. Surviving, in addition to his mother and wife, are sons James Paul Dokas of Malvern, Pa., and Donald James Dokas of Sykesville, Md.; daughters Joanne D. Wherley of Finksburg, Md., and Pamela M. Dokas-VanMaren of New Windsor, Md.; half-sister Charlene Kiniyalocts of Trenton, Ohio; and eight grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral liturgy was held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Liberty Road, Eldersburg, Md. Interment was in Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville, Md. Friends called from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, Md.

Kathryn A. Eidson
Kathryn Ann Eidson, of Middletown, 43, went home to be with her precious Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. Kathryn was a devoted Christian and always loved to tell everyone about how God loved all of us. She always took the time to pray for any problem you may have had. She taught Sunday school to the children at Town Christian Center. She loved to play the piano and sing. She was devoted to the residents at Barbara Parke Care Center and spent many happy hours visiting her grandparents, Dock and Dorothy Childers. She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Barbara and Robert Schenck; a sister, Lisa (Curt) Bunch; a brother, Steven Eidson; and a stepbrother, Bobbie Schenck, all of Middletown; nephews Christopher, Jimmy and Steve Bunch, and Bryant and Joseph Schenck, all of Middletown, and Gregory Eidson of California; nieces Stephanie Oakley, Leah Baker, Shelby, Bethany and Gretchen Eidson of California; and grand-nieces Alyssa Bunch and Hannah Oakley of Middletown. She was preceded in death by her father, James L. Eidson; and grandparents, Charles and Mary Eidson.

Sharon D. Gayhart
FRANKLIN -- Sharon DeAnn (Merriman) Gayhart, 45, of 3 Vernon St., Franklin, died Sunday, Feb. 27, at her residence. She was born in Middletown on Jan. 30, 1955, to James Shelby and Catherine (Gaffney) Merriman. She was employed by the Franklin City Schools for two years as a bus driver and also drove for the Warren County Head Start program. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shera Nicole Gayhart. Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Ray Gayhart; a son, Kevin Ray Gayhart of Franklin; a granddaughter, Taylor Nicole Gayhart; her father, James S. Merriman; her mother, Catherine McIntire of Franklin; two brothers, David Merriman of Middletown and Michael J. Merriman of Franklin; a sister, Beverly "Gale" Shepherd of Franklin; two step-daughters, Robin Hoskins and Audrey Mobley, both of Trenton; a step-brother, Douglas McIntire of Middletown; a step-sister, Pamela Calhoun of Morris, Ind., and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Linda L. George
Mrs. Linda Lou (Ferryman) George, 52, of West Chester, Ohio, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, after a brief battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Thomas Frank George; loving mother of Michael (Elizabeth) Brock, Amber (Jeremy) Howard and Gabrielle George; devoted grandmother of Morgan Brock; loving daughter of the late Floyd Ferryman and Georgetta DeSantis; and dear sister of the late Larry Ferryman. Her love for Christ and desire to glorify God were evident in her love for her family and friends and concern for all.

Virgie M. Getz
Virgie Mae Getz, 86, a resident of Garden Manor Extended Care Center since 1989, died there Thursday morning, Feb. 24, 2000. She was born on Nov. 20, 1913, in Maude, Ky., the daughter of Clayton and Ora Carney Woford. She had lived in the Middletown area since 1966 moving from Covington, Ky. She had been employed as a nurse's aide in area nursing homes. She was a member of the Central Baptist Church and the Middletown area Senior Citizens. She is survived by two sons, Glenn A. Getz of Middletown and Edward C. Getz of Hamilton; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Willie C. Woford of Springfield, Ky.; and a sister, Frances Conder of Port Richey, Fla.

FRANKLIN--Marion Lee Graham, 71, of 5305 Ohio 123, passed away Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Kettering Medical Center. He was born on Dec. 26, 1928, in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Thomas and Armitha (Katzenbach) Graham. Mr. Graham was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army. He was employed by Hamilton Dye Cast as a dye caster, retiring in 1980. His parents preceded him in death. Mr. Graham is survived by his wife, Barbara Louisa (James) Graham; sons Bryan, Randall and David Graham, all of Franklin, and Chris Graham of Middletown; a brother, Donald Graham of Dayton; a sister, Helen of Texas; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

HAMILTON--Ernest S. Hardin, 89, of Hamilton, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at 9:55 p.m. in Hospice of Cincinnati, Mercy Hospital, Hamilton. He was born in Corbin, Ky., the son of Ernest F. and Sudie (Lickliter) Hardin. He married Elizabeth Zimmers on June 1, 1933, in Newport, Ky. He was employed as a foreman in the round house at Armco Steel Co. for 42 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of Washington Lodge 17, Free & Accepted Masons, where he was a Worshipful Master in 1968; Hamilton Commandary 41, Knights Templar; Hamilton Chapter 21 Royal Arch Masons; Hamilton Council 19, Royal and Select Masons; Scottish Rite, Valley of Cincinnati; Syrian Shrine; Hamilton Shrine Club, The Desert Club; past president of the Masonic District Officers Association; Monkey Mutual Aid Society, Cage 1; and a Kentucky Colonel. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his daughter, Carol Eaton, and her husband, Charles of Hamilton; his sister, Flossie Woolum of Middletown; three grandchildren, and their children, Thomas (Mary Beth) Eaton, and children, Anthony, Vincent and Elizabeth of River Ridge, La., Timothy (Kimberly) Eaton, and son, Elliott, of New Orleans, La., and David Eaton of Golden, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Clarence Hardin, Otis Hardin and Carl Hardin; and two sisters, Myrtle Kostka and Helen Hardin.

Mrs. Maxine Hicks, 80, of Middletown, went to be with our Lord on Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at 5:36 p.m. at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born in Floyd County, Ky., on April 2, 1919, and lived here for 47 years. Mrs. Hicks was a homemaker and attended the Church of God of Prophecy on Tytus Avenue. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Hicks in 1968; her parents, Aster and Ida Barnett; a daughter, Zola Peck in 1988; a brother, Richard Barnett in 1998; a son-in-law, Joe Thomas in 1998; and a great-grandchild, Chad Hicks in 1995. Surviving are a daughter, Faye Thomas of Middletown; two sons, Ronald Hicks, and his wife, Betty, of Englewood, Ohio, and Virgil Hicks, and wife, Barbara, of Tennessee; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Artie White of Winchester, Ky.; four brothers, "Junior" Aster Barnett, and his wife, Bobbie, of Marietta, Pa., Farrell Barnett, and wife, Jenny, of Cordea, Ky., Oliver Barnett, and wife, Billie, of Winchester, Ky., and Burlin "Micky" Barnett of Fort Myers, Fla.; and many dear friends and neighbors. She was an angel who touched the hearts of many and will be sadly missed by all.

Freda C. Hoffman
Mrs. Freda C. Hoffman, 92, of Middletown, passed away Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Garden Manor Extended Care Center. She was born on Jan. 10, 1908, in Franklin County, Ind., to Joseph and Lena (Kunkel) Dudley. Mrs. Hoffman was a member of Holy Family Parish and Catholic Ladies of Columbia, Council 105. She leaves a daughter, Phyllis (Gene) Smith of Middletown; a daughter-in-law, Joan A. Hoffman of Middletown; a sister, Marie Crawford of Brookville, Ind.; a brother-in-law, William (Mary) Hoffman of Liberty, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Theresa Dudley of Comanche, Texas, and Florence (Norbert) Bleill of Liberty, Ind. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter A. Hoffman on March 25, 1997; her parents, Joseph and Lena Dudley; a son, Joseph W. Hoffman on May 30, 1999; and two brothers, Herbert and Eugene Dudley.

Rachel Hunt
HAMILTON--Rachel Hunt, 93, of Hamilton, passed away at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, Feb 24, 2000, at the Fort Hamilton Hospital. Born on July 1, 1906, in Clay County, Ky., she was the daughter of Nathan and Nancy Jane (Moore) Arnold. In 1924, in Wagersville, Ky., Rachel married Harlan Hunt Sr., and he preceded her in death on Aug. 19, 1974. She was a member of the Trenton Church of the Nazarene and the Queen Bowling League of Fairfield. She is survived by four sons, Ernest Hunt, and his wife, Inez, Harlan Hunl Jr., and his wife, Aliene, all of Hamilton, Russell Hunt, and his wife, Patty, of Monroe, Ohio, and Lee Hunt, and his wife, Renee, of Marengo, Ohio; two daughters, Marjorie Rogers, and her husband, William, of Camden, Ohio, and Lavada Hursell of Fairfield; 21 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. One brother, three half-brothers and two half-sisters also preceded him in death.

Vanessa Ingram
Vanessa Ingram, 78, of Middletown, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital of Dayton, Ohio. She was born in Middletown on Jan. 2, 1922, and lived in Middletown all of her life. She was a homemaker and attended the Healing Work Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herschel L. and Mary Lucille (Taylor) Barnhart. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, James A. Ingram; two sisters, Rebecca Ulrich of Centerville, Ohio, and Patricia Baker and husband Joseph R. of Middletown; a brother, Lowell Barnhart of Honolulu, Hawaii, and several nieces and nephews.

Arlie Kemplin
Arlie Kemplin, 86, of Madison Township, Ohio, passed away Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born on Aug. 5, 1913, the son of Austin F. and Mary Bell (Van Cleve) Kemplin. Mr. Kemplin worked for Armco Steel Co. for 39 years, retiring in 1979 from the instrument repair department. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Tunisia, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, the Rhineland and the European Theater. He received five bronze stars and a good conduct ribbon. Mr. Kemplin was also a Kentucky Colonel. Surviving are his wife, Mary Rose Kemplin of Madison Township; a daughter, Sandra Gividen of Middletown; a brother, Asa Kemplin of West Liberty, Ky.; three grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Mary Bell Kemplin; four brothers, Victor, Johnny, Olnie and Earl Kemplin; and two sisters, Norma Roe and Minnie Ellen Silver.

Mrs. Pauline S. Kramer, 78, of Middletown, passed away Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born in Middletown on July 27, 1921, and lived here most of her life. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Howard Kramer Sr. in June, 1997; a son, John Howard Kramer Jr. in January 2000; and her parents, Joseph and Vina (Hayes) Sorrell. She leaves two sons, Gerald Kramer, and his wife, Sharon, of Trenton, Ohio, and Joe F. Kramer of Denver, Colo.; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Rodney Sorrell of Middletown; two sisters, Louise Elam of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Mildred White of Franklin; and many nieces and nephews.

RICHMOND, Ky. -- Gregory Lee Lawson, 48, of Richmond, Ky., died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at Patti A. Clay Hospital. He was a native of Middletown, son of the late Clarence "Bulldog" Lawson. He was a graduate of Middletown High School and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Middletown until he moved to Richmond in 1976. He was a 20-year employee of Yuasa Exide and attended the Doylesville Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Lawson; his mother, Helen (William) Lawson; two sons, Gary Lawson and his wife Jodi and Michael Whitaker and his wife Julie; three daughters, Sandra Robertson, Rebecca Hoover and her husband Mike and Joan Robinson; 11 grandchildren; a brother, Mike Lawson and his wife Pam; a sister, Susanne Lawson and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy Smith Lewis
Mrs. Dorothy Smith Lewis, 81, of 301 Clark St., died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at the Otterbein-Lebanon Retirement Home. She was born in Estill County, Ky., on Sept. 26, 1918, the daughter of Jesse James and Hattie (Rose) Richardson, and lived most of her life in this area. She was a member of the Western Hills Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was married to Elmer Smith for 52 years prior to his death in 1986, and for three years to Bernie Lewis prior to his death in 1992. She is survived by five sons, Marvin Smith of Monroe, N.Y., Kenneth Smith and Douglas Smith, both of Middletown, Roger Smith of Miamisburg and Ricky Smith of Cincinnati; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and three step-great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Edith Dohn, Mildred Godsey and Thelma Lewis; and four brothers, Carris Richardson and Melvin, Earl and Samuel Richardson.

Anna M. Lott
Anna Mae Lott, 85, formerly of Hamilton, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at 1 a.m. at the Manor Care at Woodridge in Fairfield, Ohio, where she was a resident. She was born on Aug. 14, 1914, to John and Florence Lott in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was a nurse anesthetist for Mercy North Hospital in Hamilton for 35 years and for Hamilton-Hughes Hospital in Hamilton for eight years. She was a member of St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church in Hamilton. She was preceded in death by her parents. There are no immediate survivors.

Vida N. Maitland
Vida Nadine (Mills) Maitland, of Mount Pleasant Retirement Village, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at the Middletown Regional Hospital emergency room. She was the wife of the late William B. Maitland and daughter of the late James H. Mills and Ethel Lawrence Mills. She was born in Wadsworth, Ohio, on July 19, 1912. In 1915 the family moved to Berea, Ohio, where she graduated from high school in 1930. She received a B.A. degree from Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea in 1934, and in 1958, a master of education degree from Xavier University. In 1935 she married William B. Maitland of Norwood, Ohio. She taught at both old Woodward and new Woodward High Schools in Cincinnati, at Norwood High School, and later was the teacher of homebound students in Norwood. In 1935 she joined the Norwood Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder, a Sunday school teacher and president of the Women's Association at various times. From 1943 to 1945 while her husband was in the Army, she was a French translator in the U.S. Censorship Office in San Francisco. In 1977 the Maitlands moved to Mount Pleasant Retirement Village in Monroe, Ohio, where she served on several committees in the Residents Association, as an officer of the Handcrafters group, helped organize the Ladies Book Club and presented programs to residents. As a member of the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church, she was active with the Presbyterian Women and helped deliver food from the church pantry to the needy.
ARRANGEMENTS: Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Spring Grove Cemetery.

William Kenneth Mallory, 71, of Middletown, died Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Hospice of Dayton. He was a lifelong resident of Middletown and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a self-employed carpenter and owner/operator of the Take a Break Lounge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Mattie (Mayo) Mallory; a brother, George Mallory, and a sister, Martha Blair. Survivors include his wife of two years, Jorene Mallory; three sons, Bill Mallory and wife Lora of Georgia, Kenneth Mallory and wife Elaine of California and Charles Mallory of Middletown; step-children, Ron Plogman and wife Donna of Hamilton, Ladonna Short and husband Mike of Camden, Nikki Salyers and husband Bill of Trenton and Herbert Plogman of Middletown, and nine grandchildren.

Anna M. McIntosh
Mrs. Anna M. McIntosh, 84, a resident of the Mount Pleasant Retirement Community, died Tuesday morning, Feb. 29, 2000. She was born in Middletown on Jan. 16, 1915, a daughter of Edmund and Matilda (Adrion) DeBolt. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Mrs. McIntosh had worked for Gough-Lamb Cleaners and was retired from the Culligan Water Conditioning Co. She was a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She and her husband made their home for many years at 1118 Malvern St. She is survived by two sons, Robert McIntosh of Monroe and Jim McIntosh of Ortonville, Mich.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Eloise Courey, Mary DeBolt, Sarah Jane Davis and Kathy White, all of Middletown. Her husband, Wilbert, preceded her in death in 1996. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Ralph and Adrian DeBolt; and by a grandson, Robbie McIntosh.

Douglas McMonigle
Douglas McMonigle, 76, of Hillsboro, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at the Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Fla. He was born on Nov. 4, 1923, in West Middletown, Ohio, the son of the late Orin and Erie (Kolb) McMonigle. Mr. McMonigle was a carpenter and a member and past deacon of the Hillsboro First Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Little) McMonigle; one son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Cindy McMonigle of Augusta, Ga.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Dan Ingram of Newport, Ky., Jennifer and Bill Woznicki of Sturgis, Mich., Cindy and John Bloom of Hillsboro and Becky and Jim Newman of Seaman, Ohio; 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Fry of Springboro and Mary Kathryn Combs of Big Sandy, Texas; and two brothers, John and Lawrence McMonigle, both of Middletown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey McMonigle; two brothers, Roger and Ray McMonigle; and two half-sisters, Marabelle Belleman and Helen Collins.

Vernon Miller
Vernon Miller, 74, formerly of Middletown, died at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Harbor Site Health Care in Ocala, Fla. He had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease. He was born March 26, 1925, in Middletown. Mr. Miller was a longtime area resident. He was proceeded in death by a daughter, Betty Melton in 1989, and his parents. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Miller and Joyce Rhoads; four grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.

Daniel C. Moore
FRANKLIN-- Daniel Clinton Moore, 64, of Franklin, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Southview Hospital. He was born in Middletown on Aug. 13, 1935, to Ollie Raymond "Dud" and Lena (Hollingsworth) Moore and was a lifelong resident of Franklin. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1953 and attended the University of Dayton. He was employed by Union Camp in Franklin for 18 years as a purchasing agent and was plant manager, retiring from Worthington Custom Plastics in Mason. He served on Franklin City Council and was acting city manager. He was listed in Outstanding Young Men in America. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Warren County Democratic Party, member and past president of Franklin Jaycees, a member of Eastern Star Lodge 55, F&AM of Franklin, First Baptist Church of Franklin, past chairman of several July 4 parades and was active in various community affairs. He was preceded in death by his father, Ollie Moore. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Beverly (Emrick) Moore; a son, Christopher and wife Jan of Lexington, Ky.; two daughters, Teresa Haddix and husband Kenny of Middletown and Tammy Wallace and husband Ric of Atlanta, Ga.; mother, Lena (Hollingsworth) Moore; a sister, Anne Gorsuch and husband Carl of Franklin; five grandchildren, Chris Shotwell of Franklin, and Amber, Nichole, Erica and Sean Wallace, of Atlanta.

Sophia Pembleton
Mrs. Sophia (Detty) Pembleton, 103, of Wilmington, Ohio, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at 10:15 a.m. at the Wilmington Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on May 24, 1896, in Vinton County, Ohio, the daughter of George Detty and Mary (Ellis) Detty. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Earl Pembleton; a daughter, Martha Mae Pembleton; two brothers, Howard and Roy Detty; and two sisters, Molly Oaks and Barbara Price. Surviving are three daughters, Maryruth Gleadall of Xenia, Ann Patterson of Wilmington and Jane (John) Butts of Trenton. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Gilbert J. Rivers
Gilbert J. Rivers, 75, of 606 Ross Ave., Hamilton, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Fort Hamilton Hospital. He was born in Middletown on July 29, 1924, a son of Johnny Rivers and Pearl (Hampton) Rivers. Mr. Rivers was a 1942 graduate of Middletown High School and then worked as a civil engineer with various construction companies. He was a U.S. Marine and served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He participated in several campaigns, including Iwo Jima, in which he received the Bronze Star. He also served in the Korean War. Mr. Rivers lived in the Hamilton area for the past 11 years and was a former resident of Middletown. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marilyn; five daughters, Teresa Rinear and Charlotte Downard, both of Hamilton, Shannon Rivers and Lisa Rivers, both of Middletown, and Angela Miller of West Carrollton; a son, John Rivers of Hamilton; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Frances Stoutenborough of Middletown; and a brother, Jack Rivers of Middletown. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Rivers.

Mrs. Flossie Evaline (Pence) Rose, 89, of Malone, Ky., died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, in the Wolfe County Health Care Center in Campton, Ky. She was the daughter of the late Logan and Lula Sheffield Pence. Mrs. Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Henderson Rose. Surviving are five daughters, Louise Kidd of Middletown, Lois Martin (Henry) of Middletown, Phyllis Renfro of Lexington, Ky., Peggy Back (Dennis) of Circleville, Ohio, and Debbie Griggs (Gary) of Means, Ky.; two sons, Ray Rose of Means, Ky., and Larry Rose (Betty) of West Palm Beach, Fla; three brothers, Warren Pence of Campton, Ky., Logan Pence of Tennessee and Ova Pence of New Jersey; four sisters, Cova Barnett, Fern Dury, Pat McCray and Jean Barker, all of Middletown, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 1, at the Index Community Church, with the Rev. James Allen officiating. Burial will be in the Evans Cemetery, Campton, Ky. Visitation is from 6 p.m. today, Feb. 29, at Herald & Stewart & Halsey Funeral Home in West Liberty, Ky.

Timothy P. Ryan
Former Middletown resident Timothy P. Ryan, 29, of Dallas, Texas, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at his residence in Dallas. He was born in Lorain, Ohio, on June 15, 1970, the son of James and Elizabeth (Pathe) Ryan. Mr. Ryan was a funeral director-embalmer. He was president of Affiliated Mortuary Service and Ryan & Rose Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Fenwick High School and the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service. He was a member of the Dallas County Funeral Directors Association, the North Texas Funeral Directors Association, the Texas Funeral Directors Association, the National Funeral Directors Association and the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Among his survivors are his parents, James and Elizabeth Ryan of Middletown; two brothers, Christopher A. Ryan of Columbus and John A. (Dana) Ryan of Huber Heights; three sisters, Lisa Marie (Frank) Pallotta of Syracuse, N.Y., Paula Joanne (Daryl) Nevitt of Jacksonville, Fla., and Regina Michele Ryan of Middletown; and three nieces, Jessica Ryan and Kelly Ann Nevitt and Erin Rose Nevitt.
ARRANGEMENTS: Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 3, at Holy Trinity Church of Holy Family Parish, with Father John Civille as celebrant. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home.

Dorothy V. Sabo
Dorothy V. Sabo, 80, of Middletown died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at her residence. She was born on Nov. 9, 1919, in Wolfe County, Ky., to Jossie (Gibbs) and Donny Coffey. She worked for Ohio Bell for 35 years, retiring in 1976 as chief operator. She attended Unity Baptist Church and was a member of Middletown Business and Professional Women, Telephone Pioneers of America and bowled with the senior citizens. Survivors include three sons, D.C. Cokley and wife Blanche of Madison Township, Edward Sabo and wife Jane of Hamilton and Roy L. Sabo and wife Mary Jo of Clinton Township, Mich.; two sisters, Maxine Wells and husband Loren of Middletown, and Addie Wells and husband Bob of Middletown; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Sabo Jr., on March 31, 1997; her parents; a brother, James Kelly Coffey; and three sisters, Virginia Mae Coffey, Nancy Nunamaker and Sally Butts.
ARRANGEMENTS: The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 29, at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, with the Rev. Clay Colwell officiating. Burial will be in Woodside Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home.
