Wade Nicely
TRENTON - Wade Nicely, 50, of Trenton, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1998, at University of Cincinnati Hospital in Cincinnati.
He was born on Confluence, Ky., on Jan. 30, 1948, and had lived in this area for 40 years. Mr. Nicely served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was employed at Magnode Corp. in Trenton for 26 years before retiring in 1997.
Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Bonnie; two daughters, Kristina Nicely of Trenton and Jennifer Applegate, and her husband, Stephen, of Trenton; a granddaughter, Arielle Grace Applegate; her mother, Helen Nicely Hunt of Middletown; and a brother, Scott Nicely of Trenton.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Nicely Jr.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Olivet United Presbyterian Church, 509 W. State St., Trenton, with Pastor Daniel Graham officiating. There will be no visitation.

Allene Nichols
FRANKLIN - Mrs. Allene (Howard) Samons Nichols, 69, of Stadia Drive, died Sunday, May 31, 1998, at her residence.
She was born on Jan. 18, 1929, in Floyd County, Ky., the daughter of the late Earl and Emma Reed Howard. In early life, she married Raymond Samons. To this union two daughters were born, Cassandra, (husband Nathan E. Casson) of Franklin and Joanna Nichols of Las Vegas, Nev.
In later life, she married Green "Tom'' Nichols. He had a daughter, Donna Nichols Collins of Texas.
She also had six grandchildren, Tracy Wentzel, Aaron and Jason Casson, and Gary, Teresa and Tonya Beam; and three great-grandchildren, Jessica, Christopher and Michael Wentzel.
Mrs. Nichols was a member of Ball Branch Regular Baptist Church in Knott County, Ky.
She had a wonderful care-giver who cared for her in her last days. The family wishes to thank Bobbi Hineline. Her special grandson, Davis Ross, was also very good to her.
Mrs. Nichols had five brothers, all deceased, Burton and Raymond Howard, both of Mousie, Ky., Isadore Howard of Estill, Ky., Norman Howard of Dema, Ky., and Dillard Howard of Martin, Ky.
She had four sisters, two deceased, Eldred Allen of Fairborn, Immi Jean Morris of Georgetown, Ind., Goldie Stewart of Cleveland, Ohio, and Donna Brown of Kettering. Allene is also survived by a host of friends and nephews.
Children: If you want to see mom again, get right with God and you, too, can be with the angels. May God bless you all. She loved all of you (her sister in Christ, Donnie Brown).
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Unglesby-Anderson Funeral Home, 1357 E. Second St., Franklin, with the Rev. Ralph Howard officiating. Burial will be in Woodhill Cemetery.

Lomanie Noble
Mrs. Lomanie Noble, 79, of Middletown, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
She was born in Ned, Ky., on June 4, 1919. Mrs. Noble had worked for Environmental Services and the Lomas Co.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Ike Noble of Winchester, Ky.; two daughters and their husbands, Wilma and Delmar Gross of Middletown and Linda and Larry Turner of Jackson, Ky.; a stepdaughter, Bertha Noble of Indianapolis, Ind.; two stepsons, Mitchell Noble of Winchester, Ky., and Arnold Noble of Campton, Ky.; two grandchildren, Fern Lanier and her husband, Randy, of Monroe, and Tunda Jennings of Middletown; three great-grandchildren, Ashley Gehron of Monroe and Katrina and Courtney Jennings, both of Middletown; and three great-grandsons, John, Joe and Luke Lanier, all of West Elkton, Ohio.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.

Gwendolyn Oelslager
FRANKLIN - Mrs. Gwendolyn Oelslager, 80, of 517 Fourth St., passed away at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, 1998, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
Born in Alabama on Aug. 23, 1917, she was the daughter of J.D. and Tressie (Jackson) Nelson. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Franklin.
Mrs. Oelslager is survived by her husband of 54 years, Albert D. Oelslager; a son, Gerald, and his wife, Darlene, of Eaton; a daughter, Janice Wagner, and her husband, Harry, of Mason; two sisters, Dorothy Dendy of Athens, Ga., and Sarah McCerdes of Albertville, Ala.; two grandchildren, Kimberly Wagner of Mason and Cassle Bowels of Centerville; and a great-grandchild, Nathan Bowels.
Graveside services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Miami Valley Memory Gardens, with Dr. Gary Hartman officiating. There will be no visitation.

Opal O'Kelly
LEBANON - Mrs. Opal (Dawson) O'Kelly, 82, of Lebanon since 1946, formerly of Kentucky and Indiana, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at Lebanon Country Manor.
She was born in Morgan County, Ky., on Feb. 1, 1916, to Morton and Ada (Templeton) Dawson and was a graduate of West Liberty High School. Mrs. O'Kelly retired from the Warren County Sheriff's Department in 1978 after 16 years of secretarial service. She was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church and the Support Friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Michael H. O'Kelly, on Oct. 28, 1976; a brother, James Dawson; and a sister, Geneva Patton.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Deb O'Kelly of London and Thomas and Mary Frances O'Kelly of Lebanon; a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Tom Ariss of Lebanon; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, with the funeral service immediately following, at Oswald-Hoskins Funeral Home in Lebanon. Interment will follow in Lebanon Cemetery.

Anna Marie Oligee
MIDDLETOWN - Anna Marie Oligee, 70, of Middletown, died Friday, May 8, 1998, at her residence.
She was born Nov. 9, 1927, in Middletown, the daughter of Stanley and Nettie Hale. She was a homemaker and lived in this area her entire life. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Marvin Oligee; a son, the Rev. David and wife Lois Oligee, of West Alexandria, Ohio; two daughters, Brenda and her husband Howard Cox, of Farmersville, and Candace Oligee, of Germantown; two granddaughters, Stacy Oligee, of Ashland, and Jaime Baber, of Fairfield; two grandsons, David ``Matt'' Oligee, of West Alexandria, and Justin Cox, of Miamisburg; and a great-granddaughter, Haley Oligee, of West Alexandria.

Wheeler Owens
FRANKLIN -- Wheeler Owens, 71, of 70 Boulder Drive, died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at Veterans Hospital in Dayton.
He was born in Harlan, Ky., on Feb. 27, 1927, the son of Charley and Beatrice Owens. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Owens was employed by Dayton Walther Corp. for 14 years, retiring in 1989.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Hubert and Chuck; three sisters, Patsy, Betty and Barbara; and three grandchildren, Tony, Robbie and Josh.
Surviving are his wife of 18 years, Nona; three sons, Don, and his wife, Pam Owens, of Franklin, Jeff Owens of Middletown and Tim Owens of Franklin; two daughters, Judy, and her husband, Willard Sanders, of Franklin, and Jenny, and husband, David Marshall, of Booneville, Ky.; two sisters, Opal Rainy of Detroit, Mich., and Ethel Marie Owens of Milwaukee, Wis.; seven grandchildren; stepchildren, Kristi, and husband, Jerry Alcorn, of Franklin, Jamie, and husband, Freddie Alcorn, of Franklin, Linda, and husband, Jerry Hines, of Crittenden, Ky., Teresa Woodall of Middletown, Michael Woodall of Lebanon, Gary Woodall of Franklin and Glen Woodall of Bloomfield, N.M.

Charles E. Pohlable
Charles Edward Pohlable, 55, of Middletown, died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at Veterans Hospital in Dayton.
The Middletown native was born on July 8, 1943, and was a lifelong resident. Mr. Pohlable was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a cook and served a total of 14 years in the U.S. Army.
Among his survivors are his father, Carl H. Pohlable, his mother, Hazel Elizabeth Morris, and a brother, Carl W. Pohlable, all of Middletown; three sisters, Mary C. Snodderly and Jennie Mae Martin, both of Middletown, and Myrle Ellen Leighton of Memphis, Tenn.; and his companion of 15 years, Debbie Ann Alcorn of Middletown.

Willard A. Owens Jr.
JACKSON, Ky. - Willard A. Owens Jr., (Butch Owens) born Jan. 14, 1952, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willard Owens; one son, Steven Douglas Owens; his stepfather, Carl Risner; his father and mother-in-law, Lewis and Cassie Neace; his grandparents, Dan and Grace Spicer, a sister-in-law, Etta Mae Fetter; and two uncles, Frank Spicer and Sam Jetts.
He is survived by his loving wife who loved him very much, Ida Neace; a son, Gary Dwayne Owens, at home; a daughter, Christina Anders, and son-in-law whom he loved like a son, Charles Archie Anders; a grandson, Steven Lewis Owens; a granddaughter, Abbigail Jo Rose; his wonderful mother, Hazel Risner, of Jackson, Ky.; his stepmother, Easter Owens, of Illinois; a sister, Elizabeth Kay Hall, and her husband, John, of Middletown; two brothers, Kenneth Owens, and his wife, Bonnie, of Versailles, Ky., and William Boyd Owens, and his wife, Ileen, of Van Buren, Ark.; and a host of in-laws; three nephews; 19 nieces; 37 great-nieces and great-nephews; three great-great-nieces; a special great-niece, Priscilla Beth Griffith, who loved Uncle Butch very much; an aunt, Jean Saum; and a host of cousins and many friends who loved him.
He was a member of Local 534.

Clarence H. Page
Clarence Hanable Page, 87, formerly of Middletown, died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at the Mariner-Kensington Convalescent Center in Kensington, Md.
He was born on March 5, 1911, to Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell and Rosemary Clark Page of Elbe, Ala. They later moved to Dothan, Ala., where Clarence grew up with his brothers, Mitchell Jr., Festus and James.
The family moved to Middletown in the 1920s, where Mitchell Sr. worked for Armco Steel Co. and the brothers attended Middletown public schools.
The family also joined Second Baptist Church, where Mitchell Sr. became a member of the deacon's board. Following the death of his wife, Mitchell Sr. married Carrie Olivia Page, who was a very popular teacher in Middletown schools for more than 30 years.
In 1942, Clarence married Maggie Lee Williams, a popular cook and caterer who for many years baked the church's communion bread.
Years later, Clarence would follow in his father's path in becoming chairman of Second Baptist Church's deacon board. He was also an active member of the church's choir.
Before Mr. Page retired in 1974 from Wrenn Paper, where he had worked as a custodian for 41 years, he was profiled in the Middletown Journal. A reporter seeking a history of the company was told by the company official that "no one knows the history of Wrenn better than Clarence Page.''
"Dad will be remembered for good cheer and a relentless smile,'' said his son, Clarence Eugene Page, a syndicated columnist for the Chicago Tribune. "When I was growing up, he was so clever, his friends called him 'The Fox.' ''
Besides his son, Mr. Page is survived by a daughter-in-law, Lisa Johnson Page, and a grandson, Grady Jonathan Page, all of Washington, D.C.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Second Baptist Church, 116 S. Verity Parkway, Middletown, with the Rev. N.L. Cooper officiating. Entombment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hall-Jordan Memorial Chapel, 918 S. Main St., Middletown.
Clarence Pence
FRANKLIN - Clarence (Darb) Pence, 60, of 8465 Heather Court, died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at Middletown Regional Hospital after being stricken at home.
He was employed at Corson Packaging in Middletown for more than 30 years and was a member of the Moose Lodge in Middletown.
Mr. Pence is survived by his wife, Glenda (Faye); a son, Scottie of Franklin; a daughter, Tracy, at home; three grandchildren; two brothers, Virgil of Stanton, Ky., and Vernon of Campton, Ky.; and four sisters, Ruth and Alene Pence of Campton, Ky., Pauline Arajs of Centerville and Ruby Miller of Fairfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Addie Pence, and a brother, Ralph.

Robert Pennington
Robert "Bob'' Pennington, 75, of Middletown, died Saturday, April 25, 1998, at Barbara Parke Care Center.
He was born in Bond, Ky., on Feb. 9, 1923. Mr. Pennington had worked as a self-employed painter for 45 years before his retirement in 1970.
He leaves his mother, Nancy Pennington of Shelbyville, Ind.; a son, David Pennington of Germantown; two daughters, Phyllis Clark and Susan Pennington, both of Franklin; three grandchildren; nine brothers, Cecil and Carl Pennington, both of Mount Sterling, Ohio, Andrew Pennington of London, Ky., Theodore and Donald Pennington, both of Shelbyville, Ind., Jesse Roy Pennington of Greenfield, Ind., Eudorice Pennington of Westfield, Ind., and Dale and Kenny Pennington, both of Rushville, Ind.; two sisters, Ruby Hurley of Middletown and Ruth Randoff of Fresno, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His father, Jesse Pennington, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harold Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Butler County Memorial Park in Trenton.

Robert Planck Jr.
Robert D. Planck Jr., 67, of Middletown, died Monday, April 27, 1998, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
He was born in Paris, Ky., on April 6, 1931, and lived here most of his life. Mr. Planck was a member of Port Union Church of God and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 501 in Middletown.
Surviving are three daughters, Denise Planck of Camden, Tonya Planck of Lebanon and Charlene Highlander of Cynthiana, Ky.; four sisters, Anna Belle Pridemore, Sue Davis, Frances Hatton and Phyllis House, all of Paris, Ky.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert D. and Marguerite Planck; and a brother, Brooks Planck.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Woodside Cemetery Mausoleum. There will be no visitation.

William R. Penwell
William R. Penwell, 79, of Middletown, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at Barbara Parke Care Center.
He was born in Madison County, Ohio, on Sept. 14, 1918, and had lived here for 10 years. Mr. Penwell was formerly employed in the maintenance department at Monsanto Chemical Co. where he worked for 25 years. He attended the Church of God.
Survivors include a sister, Marjorie Zimmerman Jones of Medway, Ohio; a brother, Herbert Penwell of South Salem, Ohio; several nieces, nephews and friends; and special friends, the Creech family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Della (Russell) Penwell; a sister, Mildred Carroll; and a brother, Raymond Eugene Penwell.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Butler County Memorial Park, with Pastor Larry Fultz officiating. There will be no visitation.

Marilyn M. Perry
SPRINGBORO - Mrs. Marilyn Marie Perry, of 7511 Sharts Road, died Saturday, June 20, 1998, at Sycamore Hospital in Miamisburg.
She was the beloved wife of Jim Perry; dear mother of Deanna Garrett of Springboro and Jeff Hammonds of Carlisle; and dear sister of Doug Williams of Roswell, N.M., Gene Williams of Riley, Kan., and Gretchen Trumpp of Garnett, Kan. She was also survived by a grandson, Lee Hammonds.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rolland and Louise Williams; a sister, Helen Holt; and her brother, Harlan Williams.
Mrs. Perry had been employed at Wal-Mart in Lebanon the past eight years.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. today at Unglesby-Anderson Funeral Home, 1357 E. Second St., Franklin. Sister Karen Egelston officiated and Brother Randall Lawson sang at the service. Visitation was Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Euclid J. Pierce
Euclid J. Pierce Jr., 78, of Middletown, died Wednesday, July 1, 1998, at Middletown Regional Hospital where he had been a patient for three days.
He was born on July 25, 1919, in Gobi, Tenn., and had lived in the Middletown area most of his life. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Pierce was a welder at Armco Steel Co. and worked there for 34 years before retiring in 1974.
He was a charter member of the Mayfield Volunteer Fire Department and served as fire chief for nine years. He started the First Aid Fire Program for city schools. He had also served as a special fire prevention inspector for the state of Ohio.
Mr. Pierce was a former scoutmaster and a member of the Armco Middletown Wood Carvers.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary E. (Hawkins) Pierce; three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard A. and Judy Pierce of Chandler, Ariz., Fred H. and Janice Pierce of LeSourdsville, Ohio, and Robert P. and Rita Pierce of Monroe; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca ``Becky'' and Michael Pennington of Middletown and Corabelle ``Corky'' and Robert Lawson of South Vienna, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Jamie Pierce, Karen Eby, Christopher Helton, Karla Brewer, Kris Lawson and Mike, John and Jorge Pierce; seven great-grandchildren, Hilary and Olivia Pierce, Rachel Fultz, Cody and Austin Brewer, Alan Eby and Christopher Cory Helton; two sisters, Pat Agner of Monroe and Lillian Moren of Franklin; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Euclid Jasper Pierce Sr. and Armina Jane (Neal) Pierce; a son, Franklin Pierce; a granddaughter, Ruth Ann (Pierce) Fultz; two brothers, Warren Harding Pierce and Robert Harold Pierce; and two sisters, Mary Hurley and Ella Mae Pierce.

Tracie Lynn Parrish, 33, of Middletown, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
She was born in Middletown on Aug. 3, 1965, and was a lifelong resident and a homemaker.
Among her survivors are her parents, Cleveland and Betty Combs of Middletown; two sons, James Alan Parrish and Joseph Michael Parrish, both of Middletown; three sisters, Angela Parrish of Middletown, Pamela Combs of Akron, Ohio, and Christin Emerick, and her husband, Robert, of Akron; three nieces, Neely and Lacy Henning and Courtney Emerick; a nephew, Sean Parrish; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Nannie Ethel "Tiny" Pelfrey, 92, of Middletown, passed away Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
She was born in Campton, Ky., on May 20, 1906, and lived in this area most of her life. She had worked as a cook at Ray's Cafe for 18 years.
Among her survivors are two daughters, Lucille White of Sardinia, Ohio, and Virginia Williams, and her husband, Billie, of Middletown; 22 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Edna Brewer of Cincinnati; and a brother, Rodney Brewer of New Richmond, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leeds Hasson; her parents, George and Lula Brewer; a son, Charlie Bill Spencer; a daughter, Geneva Spencer; a son-in-law, Marvin White; and four grandchildren.

Creed T. Pruitt
TRENTON -- Creed T. Pruitt, 27, of Trenton, died of cancer on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
Born in Hamilton, Ohio, on Dec. 21, 1971, he was the son of Roger Pruitt Sr. and Dana Adams Pruitt. He served in the U.S. Army during the Gulf War. Mr. Pruitt was employed as a line technician for Warner Cable Co.
Surviving are his wife, Wendy Ann Kleinsmith Pruitt of Trenton; his mother, Dana Pruitt of Trenton; a son, Creed Ren Pruitt of Trenton; two daughters, Hailey Rachel Pruitt and Kaitlyn Ann Pruitt, both of Trenton; two brothers, Roger Lee Pruitt II of Trenton and Wayne Rhodes of Hamilton; two sisters, Tonya Clemmons and Shawna Joseph, both of Hamilton; his grandparents, Hobert and Betty Antrican Adams and James A. and Rose Cobb Beacraft; aunts Lisa and Darrell Crowe and April Adams; an uncle, Philip David and Sue Keith Adams; and cousins Jeff and Lorie Adams and Justin Crowe.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Pruitt Sr., on Feb. 11, 1994.

Fred R. Pummill
MIDDLETOWN - Fred R. Pummill, 92, of Middletown, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at Garden Manor Extended Care Center.
Born on June 11, 1906, in Greenfield, Ohio, he had lived in the Middletown area since 1911. He had worked as a yard foreman at Denny Lumber Co. He retired in 1983 after 30 years of service.
Mr. Pummill was very well-known and respected in the building trade industry in the Middletown area. He enjoyed bowling and was an avid fan of the Middies basketball team. After the death of his wife, he lived at Trinity Manor for seven years, where he was always willing to assist other residents with repairs and in providing them with transportation.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Marie (McNabb) Pummill, in 1980; his parents, Isaac C. and Mahala (Burnet) Pummill; a grandson, Gregory ValDoench, in 1972; sisters Alma and May Cogan, Maude Deck and Ethel Barnes; and brothers Ray and Orville Pummill.
He is survived by two sons, Robert W. Pummill of Germantown, Ohio, and Fred M. (Barbara) Pummill of Middletown, Ohio; a brother, Cary B. Pummill of Middletown; a special friend, Barbara Potter; seven grandchildren, Alan (Shelia) Pummill of Middletown, Ellen (Dan) Fink of Middletown, Vickie (Jim) Kirstead of Dayton, Ohio, Beth Ann Day of Dayton, Kim (Mike) Burton of Middletown, Robert (Amy) Pummill Jr. of Fairfield, Ohio, and Kim (Richard) Jackson of Madera, Ohio; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, at Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Eric Newell officiating. Burial will be at Butler County Memorial Park in Trenton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Breiel Boulevard First Church of God.
Rick Patterson
Rick Patterson, 42, of Middletown, died Monday at Middletown Regional Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home.
Percy T. Phillips
Percy Thomas Phillips, 58, father, companion and friend to many, silently passed away at his home in Chicago, Ill., on Saturday, March 27, 1999.
He was born in Middletown, Ohio, on May 17, 1940.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Cecil Sr. and Gladys Phillips; his beloved aunt, Odessa Parson; and two brothers, John Cecil Jr. and Edgar Lee. Percy was baptized at an early age at Second Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army where he received an honorable discharge before relocating to Chicago, Ill., where he was employed by Ford Motor Co. for 30 years.
He is survived by a daughter, Crystal Lynn Whiteous of Phoenix, Ala.; a loving companion, Carol Pettit of Chicago; five sisters, Norma Jean (Cliff) Harris, Wadena Sherron, and Patricia (Robert) Hill, all of Middletown, Betty Ann (Robert) Marlow of Greenville, Ala., and Gladys (Roy) Jones of Fairfield, Ohio; two brothers, Robert (Joanne) Phillips and Norman (Carolyn) Phillips of Middletown; a devoted niece, Cecilia (Jeff) Burg of Middletown; a stepbrother, John Amos Jr. of Middletown; a stepsister, Lorena Mayes of Dayton, Ohio; and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Services in Chicago, under the direction of the Gadlins Chapel, will be at 7 p.m. today, March 30.
Funeral services will also be in Middletown at noon Friday, April 2, at Hall- Jordan Memorial Chapel, 918 S. Main St. The Rev. N.L. Cooper will officiate. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery in the Soldiers Lot.
Roy W. Payne
Roy W. Payne, 78, of Hanover Township, died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at 7:40 p.m. at his residence.
He was born on Dec. 4, 1920, in Hamilton, Ohio, the son of Clyde and Margaret (Ruhl) Payne, and was educated in the Hamilton Catholic schools. On March 28, 1947, in Hamilton, Ohio, he married Ellanora Coleman. Mr. Payne had been employed at Krauth & Benninghofen as a tool and die maker, retiring in 1980. He lived in Hanover Township 50 years.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 8th Air Force, 453rd Bomb Group. While in the service, he served as a turret gunner and photographer, flying 35 missions over Europe and Germany. He received a Good Conduct Medal, an Air Medal and a Distinguished Flying Cross.
He is survived by his wife, Ellanora of Hanover Township; a daughter, Debbie (Richard) Lakes of Hamilton; two sons, Jerry Payne of Hamilton and Greg (Rayetta) Payne of Illinois; three grandchildren, Richie (Susie) Lakes, Gregory Payne and Dawn (David) Michael, all of Hamilton; two great-grandchildren, Kori and Cassie; and a brother, Don (Rita) Payne of Fairfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
ARRANGEMENTS: Prayers will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, March 26, at Paul R. Young Funeral Home, 3950 Pleasant Ave., Hamilton, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Queen of Peace Church, 2250 Millville Ave., with Father Kenneth J. Schoettmer officiating. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Edith Phillips
Former West Middletown resident Mrs. Edith L. Phillips, 87, of Franklin, Ind., passed away Monday, March 22, 1999, at Todd-Aiken Health Care Center in Franklin, Ind. She was a resident of Franklin, Ind., for the past 15 years. She was born on Dec. 1, 1911, in South Portsmouth, Ohio. Her parents were Leon and Virginia (Bellamy) Lamothe. Edith was married in Cincinnati, Ohio, on July 26, 1928, to Howard E. Phillips. He preceded her in death on Feb. 21, 1980.
Survivors include two sons, Roger F. Phillips of West Middletown, Ohio, and Russell L. Phillips of Oregonia, Ohio; a daughter, Betty Jeanne Roman of Franklin, Ind; two brothers, Bill Allison and Richard Allison, both of Middletown, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son.
Mrs. Phillips was a homemaker. She was a member of the Franklin, Ind., Community Church and Franklin Senior Center where she played in the rhythm band. She was a Southern Smile Clown and a 50-year member of the Prosser Chapter 367 Order of Eastern Star in Middletown, Ohio.

Elizabeth Ann Powell
Mrs. Elizabeth Ann "Gangy" Powell, 66, of 1404 Kensington St., Middletown, died at 5:05 p.m. Wednesday, March 3,1999, at Middletown Regional Hospital, after an extended illness.
She was born on Aug. 16, 1932, in Franklin, Ohio, and had lived all of her life in the Franklin and Middletown areas. Mrs. Powell was a homemaker and a member of the University Baptist Church of Middletown.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Alma (Vaughn) Roberts; and a sister, Dorothy Newkirk.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Donald B. Powell; three sons, Kevin, Keith and Grant Powell, all of Middletown; two daughters, Shelley Snell-Plumbo, and her husband, Mike, and Shannon Emrick, and her husband, Randy, all of Middletown; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Gibbs and husband, Mike, Hollie Snell, Michelle Plumbo, Shandi Farquer and husband, Charlie, Chris Emrick and wife, Tiffany, Creighton Emrick, and Jordan Powell, all of Middletown; nine great-grandchildren, Sara Snell, Ian, Connor, and Emily Duff, Zachary and Alexis Farquer, Trey Snell-Jackson, Kiah Allen, MaCorey and Austin Emrick; and four sisters, Virginia Lieungh and husband, Bob, of Camden, Betty Ujlaki and husband, Ralph, of Dayton, Phyllis Hammons and husband, Loy, of Carlisle, and Peggy Cook of Franklin.

Thomas W. Proffitt
Thomas W. Proffitt, 82, of Millard Drive, Franklin, died Friday, March 5, 1999, at his residence.
He was born in Morehead, Ky., Jan. 1, 1917, a son of the late Arthur Proffitt and Emma Proffitt Lambert.
Mr. Proffitt lived in the community for 39 years. He was a journeyman printer for 35 years and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Proffitt was a member of the Chapter 7 Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with two Bronze stars, the American Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star and a Good Conduct Ribbon.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carol Ann Proffitt; a daughter, Cindy Todd of Centerville; sons, Thomas Proffitt Jr. of Franklin, James Proffitt of Franklin, Michael Proffitt of New Brockton, Ala., and Steven Proffitt of Kettering; seven grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Hannah; and a brother, Dan Wagner.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Butler County Memorial Park, Trenton.

Joan Belcher Puckett
Joan Belcher Puckett, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died Thursday, March 18, 1999 at Riverside Hospital in Columbus at the age of 92.
She was born in Lincoln County, Ky., June 2, 1906, daughter of David and Sarah (Gross) Belcher, and lived in Middletown for most of her life.
She was employed by Armco as a laboratory analyst for many years. Following her husband's death, she lived in Columbus, and most recently in Friendship Village, in Dublin.
She took great pride in her gardening, cooking, and sewing, only a few of her wonderful talents.
Her many gifts and loving ways will be dearly missed by her daughters, Helen Puckett Kaurich, and her husband, Frank, of Columbus, and Marjorie Puckett Jaffee, of Boca Raton, Fla. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Douglas Richards, and his wife, Leigh, of Clinton, N.J., Deb Tongren, and her husband, Rob, of Columbus, David Kaurich, and his wife, Mary, of Muskegon, Mich., Charles Jaffee, of Portland, Ore., Joan Jaffee Miller, and her husband, Will, of Seattle, Wash., Tracy Kaurich Columbo, and her husband, Frank, of Wooster, and Thomas Kaurich, of London, England; and great-grandchildren, A.J. and Amy Richards, Jennifer, Peter, and Andrew Tongren, Katherine and Elizabeth Miller, and Alison Columbo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and loving husband, George William Puckett.
