Nathalie Bassett
Nathalie "Nat" Bassett, 78, of Vero Beach Fla. died Sept. 4, at Palm Garden Nursing Home, after a prolonged illness. Nathalie was born Feb. 5, 1921, in Franklin, Ohio, and was a lifelong resident of Franklin, until moving to Vero Beach in 1983. She graduated from Franklin High School, in the Class of 1939, and she was a member of the high school band. Mrs. Bassett was retired from the GM Corp. accounting department, in Dayton, Ohio. She was a past member of The Order of the Eastern Star, of Franklin, the Franklin Golf Club, the Wildwood Golf Club, of Middletown, and Vista Royale Golf & Country Club, of Vero Beach.
Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Sam T. Bassett; one daughter, Patricia Anne Folck and her husband James, of Dayton. Two grand children, James C. Folck, of Andersonville, Tenn. and Susan Riedel, of LaFollette, Tenn. Four great grandchildren, Jeni and Chris Folck, and Amber and Nick Riedel.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation services were provided by Indian River Cremations, of Vero Beach.

Elizabeth "The Egg Lady" Baumann
Betty Baumann, 80, of Hamilton, died Monday, Sept. 6, at Fort Hamilton Hughes Hospital.
Elizabeth Ellen Bake was born June 17, 1919, in Jacksonburg, Ohio, to the former Erva and Maude Bake. She later graduated from Lemon Monroe High School in 1937. She married Alfred J. Baumann Feb. 3, 1940. They bought a farm which they tended together until her death.
In May 1950, her only child Douglas was born. Betty delivered eggs door to door for over 59 years. She was a member of Front Street Presbyterian Church of Hamilton, the Lemon Monroe Alumni Association, a past member of the Edgewood School Board and a previous president of the Youth Council of the Butler County Farm Bureau. She traveled widely to several different countries and enjoyed dining at many famous restaurants. Some of her special hobbies were uniquely decorated eggs, Teddy Bear and doll collections and doting over her only grandchild, Beverly Anne Baumann.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather Raymon Schenk; brother, Everett Bake; and two nephews Jerry and Donny Bake.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Alfred Jacob Baumann of Hamilton; one loving son Douglas Lee Baumann and wife Sarah Green-Baumann of Seven Mile; granddaughter, Beverly; one sister-in-law, two brother-in-laws, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Betty will be sadly missed by many close friends and numerous acquaintances of whom many were long standing egg customers which she delighted in serving.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Woodside Cemetery Chapel with the Rev. Keith Risner officiating. Entombment will be at Woodside Mausoleum.

Juanita Beckwith
Juanita Beckwith, 85, a lifetime resident of Middletown, died Sunday at Middletown Regional Hospital.
She was a former resident of Barbara Parke Care Center and died after complications from long-term health problems.
She is survived by her brother, Ben Plott; daughters Patricia Lynch and Carol Hayes of Middletown; son Larry Beckwith Jr. of Columbus, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lucy Plott and Oakley Catching; husband Larry Beckwith Sr.; and daughter Judy Nabor, all of Middletown.
She was born in Middletown on Jan. 31, 1914. She was a member of St. Luke's Presbyterian Church, a former president of the American Business Women's Association and was named Woman of the Year for two consecutive years. She was a wonderful mother, wife, sportswear buyer at the Central Store, and co-proprietor, with her late husband, of Beckwith Camera Shop in downtown Middletown.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today and funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bob Clark officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery.
Larry D. Blevins
Larry Dale Blevins, 51, of 6199 Berwick Drive, Franklin, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, at Miami Valley Hospital.
He was born in Middletown, Ohio, on Feb. 13, 1948, the son of Thomas and Mary Banks Blevins. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army for three years. He was employed for 26 years by Meritor, formerly Dayton-Walther Corp., and was a member of the Classic Car Association.
Preceding him in death were his father, Thomas, in 1992, and a stepson, Jason Napier, in 1993.
Surviving are his wife, Frankie (Prater) Blevins, whom he married in 1975; three daughters, Jaimie and Julie, both at home, and Jennifer Steel of Phoenix, Ariz.; his mother, Mary Blevins of Carlisle; two brothers, Rick Blevins of Columbus and Gary Blevins of Carlisle; a sister, Ramona Lainhart and her husband, Steve, of Carlisle; a granddaughter, Katie; numerous nieces and nephews; and a large loving family.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, at Eaton-Anderson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Woodhill Cemetery with full military honors.

Lorena Brewer
Lorena P. Brewer, 84, of Lebanon died peacefully Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at the Otterbein Home.
Born in Menefee County, Ky., the daughter of William and Nallia (Egleston) Little, she was a homemaker and a member of Titus Avenue Church of God in Middletown.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert Carl Brewer in 1993, and brother Vernon Little.
She is survived by daughters, Jeanne Young and Joanne Perschelli, both of Lebanon; son William S. Brewer of Middletown; brothers Virgil and Robert Little, both of Kentucky; sisters Deloris Little of Springboro, and Norma Ritchie of Kentucky; five grandchildren and eight great-granchildsons.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at the Otterbein Chapel with the Rev. Stanley Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow in Lebanon Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Stine-Kilburn Funeral Home.

Bethel L. Clark
Former Middletown resident Mrs. Bethel Lee Clark "Gangi," 85, of Three Rivers, Mich., died Thursday, Sept. 9. 1999, while at home. She was born on Aug. 22, 1914, to Benjamin Presley and Bessie Belle (Duerr) Choate in Franklin, Tenn. On Aug. 30, 1930, she married Charles E. Clark in Mayfield, Ky. Together, they moved to Three Rivers, Mich., in 1967, from Middletown, Ohio.
Mrs. Clark was a member of the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and cooking. Her grandchildren remember her best for her great story telling. Prior to her husband's death in 1978, they enjoyed dancing and bowling together.
Surviving are three children, a son James E. Clark of Three Rivers, Mich., and two daughters, Joanne (James) Armitage of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Patricia (Al) Puntureri of Hermitage, Pa.; a sister, Alma Hoover of Middletown, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Clark was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; a sister, Edith Billie Yenser; and a half brother, Bobby Givens.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be held Sunday, Sept. 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at Halverson Chapel, 305 Rock River Ave., Three Rivers, Mich. Birdella Clark
Birdella Clark, 95, of Bethany Lutheran Village, Dayton, passed away Friday, Sept. 10, 1999.
She was born on Oct. 15, 1903, in Cynthiana, Ky., the daughter of William Martin and Sara (Renaker) Martin. Mrs. Clark was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Prosser Chapter and the First Christian Church. She was a graduate of Miami Jacobs College.
She is survived by her nieces, Louise W. Seman of Kettering and Mary Elizabeth (husband Boyd) Stepler of St. Cloud, Fla.; a nephew, Robert (wife Phyllis) Waits of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and many great-nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Vernie C. Clark in 1967.

Alga Crowe
Alga Crowe, 74, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, at the Willow Knoll Retirement Center. A lifelong resident of Middletown, she lived at 106 Burton Road until moving to Willow Knoll in June 1999. She was born Feb. 4, 1925 in Buford, Ohio. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Middletown and the Disciples of Christ at the First Christian Church. She was preceded in death her husband, James McClellan Crowe; two sisters, Marjorie Woodward and Gaynelle Loop; one brother, Virgil Gossett; son-in-law, Carl William Boyce; and parents Joseph and Frances (Campbell) Gossett.
She is survived by her son, Phillip (Karen) Crowe of Middletown, Ohio; her daughter, Janis Boyce of Middletown; three grandchildren, Melissa (Daniel) Beckett, Shannon Crowe and Shawn Crowe, all of Middletown; and one great grandchild, A.J. Dillingham, of Middletown.

Travis Emrick
Travis Emrick, 58, formerly of Middletown, passed away Sept. 10, 1999 at Central Park Village in Orlando. She was born in Middletown on April 9, 1941, and moved to Orlando in 1998. She was an activities director for the Otterbein Homes in Lebanon.
She is survived by her son, Gregory Emrick, of LaGrange, Ky.; her daughter, Elizabeth Gribben, of Orlando; grandchildren Brian and Nicole Gribben and Hailey and Sarah Emrick

Elmer Gayhart
Elmer Gayhart, 74, of 902 Catalpa Drive, Middletown, Ohio, passed away Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999 at 8:05 p.m. at Middletown Regional Hospital, where he was patient for four days. He was born March 29, 1925, in Blue Diamond, Ky., but had lived in the Middletown area most of his life. He was employed for 20 years as a tree trimmer for the Cincinnati Gas and Electric Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ballard and Fannie (Trent) Gayhart; two sisters, Illa Mae Brown and Helen Lawwill; one brother, Ballard Gayhart, Jr.; and one granddaughter, Nicole Gayhart.
He is survived by one son, Elmer Ray Gayhart and his wife Sharon of Franklin; four daughters, Linda Sue Bourne and her husband Richard of Las Vegas, Nevada; Eva Mae Holder and her husband Larry of Corona, Calif.; Darleene Koppin and Gary Moore of Springboro; and Dawn Rene Hill and husband James of Centerville; 12 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; four brothers, Audney Gayhart of Oxford Ohio; Robert Gayhart and Bill Gayhart, both of Middletown, and Herman Gayhart of Germantown; and two sisters, Malta Pelfrey and Lorene Stout, both of Middletown.

George W. Hall Jr.
George William Hall Jr., 70, formerly of Middletown, was killed in an automobile accident Friday, Sept. 10, in California, where he had resided for the last 25 years.
He was a graduate of Middletown High School in the class of 1948.
He is survived by three sons and a daughter, Greg Hall of Indiana, Grant Hall of California, Dean Hall of Florida and a daughter, Sara Cole of Columbus, Ohio; two grandchildren; sisters Mildred Kinnamon, Gladys Womack and LaVerne Ober, all of Middletown, and Ruth Gambill of Florida and Betty (Bob) Lucas of California; and many nieces and nephews.

Ellen Jane Hill
Ellen Jane Hill, 52, passed away Sept. 6, 1999 after a three-year battle with illness.
Ellen was born March 16, 1947 in Wheeling., W.Va.. She graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in fashion merchandising and used her skills in the fashion industry as a buyer and manager of several fashion boutiques. She also worked in the real estate and telecommunication industries and later because vice president of a local mortgage company, where she remained until her illness.
She is survived by her husband, Robert E. Hill, of Richardson, Texas; her mother, Marian Kelchak, of Manhattan, Kan.; her son, DC Sauter, of Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Tiffany Eden Sauter and Heather Hart Sauter, both of Dallas; two stepsons, Robert E. Hill Jr., of Trenton, and William Scott Hill of Somerville, Ohio; and her sister, Barbara Kennedy, of Green Valley, Ariz.
Nina Hymer
Nina Hymer, 95, of Hamilton, passed away Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, at 7:30 p.m. at Wellington Manor.
She was born Jan. 17, 1904, in Greenfield, Ohio, the daughter of Howard and Emma (Tickle) Cogan.
Nina was employed as a packer for Pillsbury for 16 years, retiring in 1969. She was a member of the Trinity Family Fellowship. Nina enjoyed sewing and making dolls, and was know as "Granny" by all her grandchildren. In 1935, in Jellico, Tenn., she married Clarence Hymer, who preceded her in death in 1977.
She is survived by two sons, Tommy Hymer and his wife, Edna, of Hamilton and Toleman Spurlock and his wife, Maxine, of Rush, Colo.; one daughter, Mildred Moore and her husband, Jerry, of Hamilton; 22 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Delmar, Robert and Lester Spurlock; and a sister, Kathryn Birchmore.

Ernestine Kiser
Mrs. Ernestine (Oney) Kiser, 61, of 6914 Ronald Drive, Middletown, formerly of Olive Hill, Ky., died Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, at her residence. She was born in Carter County, Ky., on May 20, 1938, to the late James Ernest and Stella Mae (Duncan) Oney. Mrs. Kiser had worked as a teacher for 35 years. She taught in schools in the Middletown, Ohio, area and in the Lakota School District in West Chester, Ohio.
She was a member of the Teachers Fraternity and belonged to the Springboro Church of God.
Survivors include her husband, Harlan Kiser of Middletown; a sister, Doris Ann Gilliam of Olive Hill, Ky.; and two nieces, Chelle Gilliam of Richmond, Ky., and Cherri Knipp of Olive Hill.
ARRANGEMENTS: Graveside services are set for 1 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Cemetery in Olive Hill, Ky., with Ministers Allen Wells and Charlie Cooper officiating.

Charles Kurtz
Charles P. Kurtz, 69, of Middletown, died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at his residence. He was born on Aug. 8, 1930, to Peter John Kurtz and Ona (Hurst) Kurtz. He was an Army Air Force veteran. Mr. Kurtz worked as a melter at the Armco Open Hearth Furnace for 36 years, retiring in 1985. He then went to work in the transportation department at the Otterbein-Lebanon Retirement Community for five and a half years. He was a member of the Monroe Christian Church and a volunteer at Middletown Regional Hospital, having received his 500-hours pin this past July.
Surviving are his wife, Lodema (Parks) Kurtz of Middletown; three daughters, Cheryl Kay (Richard A.) Pratt of Mason, Charlene G. Kurtz of Middletown and Karen G. Florea of Houston, Texas; two sons, Charles R. Kurtz and Art McQuinn, both of Middletown; a brother, Robert (Rose) Kurtz of Monroe; three sisters, Mary (Jesse) Prugh of Miamisburg, and Margaret Tobitt and Mildred (William) Hoppe, both of Middletown; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents, Peter John and Ona Kurtz; and three brothers, John, Art and William Kurtz.

Georgia H. Lane
Mrs. Georgia H. Lane, 73, a resident of Garden Manor Retirement Center, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999. She and her husband formerly lived at 1907 Queen Ave. She was born in Lexington, Ky., on Aug. 14, 1926, a daughter of Ralph and Ann Preston and had resided in the Middletown area for more than 50 years. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Lane; a daughter and son-in-law, Larinda and Rickey Scragg of Middletown; a grandson, Jody "Joe" Wilhoit; a great-granddaughter, Katie Wilhoit; two sisters, Ruby Bowing of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Ann Girardi of Broadview, Ill.; and a brother, Harry Preston of Danville, Ky. Her parents preceded her in death.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services for Mrs. Lane will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Grace Baptist Church, with the Rev. Howard Sears officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services Saturday at the Church. Burial will follow in Grace Memorial Cemetery.

Leo T. Martin
Leo T. Martin, 76, of Wayne Township, Ohio, passed away Friday, Sept. 10, 1999 at Mercy North Hospital in Hamilton. He was born July 23, 1923 in Liberty, Ind., the son of Gladys (Johnson) Martin and Herschel Martin.
Martin was a finish carpenter who worked for Fishbaugh Homes for 15 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Truth Tabernacle Church.
He is survived by his wife, Nellie J. (Black) Martin of Wayne Township; brothers Gilbert (Millie) Martin of Sebring, Fla., Ivan (Joanne) Martin of College Corner, and Charles (Gwen) Martin of Richmond, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Virginia Moore
FRANKLIN-Mrs. Virginia "Ginny" Moore, 86, of 7718 Franklin-Trenton Road, formerly of Chautauqua, passed away Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, at her residence. She was born on Jan. 17, 1913, in Miamisburg, Ohio, the daughter of Harry and Anna (Purnell) Mount. She was a member of the New Covenant Church in Middletown and attended the New Jersey Presbyterian Church in Carlisle.
Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis D. in 1990; a son, James Moore; and a brother and sister.
She is survived by her son, David, and his wife, Dixie Moore, of Anderson, S.C.; a daughter, Cynthia Moore of Springboro; a sister-in-law, Marilena Moore of Miamisburg; and grandchildren, Dawn (Moore) and husband, Mark Yeargan, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla, Eric K., and his wife, Amy Moore, of Grand Rapids, Mich., Pete Moore of Sydney, Australia, Terri Moore of Huber Heights, Kelley Moore of Philadelphia, Pa., Anna, and husband, Donnie Mays, of Carlisle, Jennifer, and husband, Bryan Green, of South Vienna, Ohio, and Jonathan Williams of Cincinnati; and six great-grandchildren.

Nathaniel Mosby
Nathaniel "Nate" Mosby, 70, of Atlanta, Ga., formerly of Middletown, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999. Nate attended Middletown City Schools and was a 1947 graduate of Middletown High School. Upon graduation, he furthered his education at Morehouse University in Atlanta, where he received his bachelor and Ph.D. degrees. Nate was a very active civic and political leader in Atlanta as well as an entrenpeneur. Well known and liked by all, he has left quite a legacy. He loved life, he loved people and was a very talented speaker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Mosby and Elsie Moore; and a brother, John Mosby II.
He leaves to mourn and cherish his memories, his wife, Gwen; four sons, Philip, Howard, David and Warren; a daughter, Natalie; several grandchildren; two special aunts, Sallie Latimore of Middletown and Betty Coleman of Franklin; and many special cousins and friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, at the First Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Ga.

Charles Austin Mullen
Charles Austin Mullen died in Cincinnati, Ohio on Sept. 12, 1999. He was born in Dayton, Ohio on Feb. 7, 1927, the son of Ethel Bane Mullen and William Mullen. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He owned Charlie's Barber Shop, Tallehassee and My Way Lounge.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Marlayne and Tom Skeens, of Middletown; one son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Linda Mullen, of Batavia, Ohio; two grandsons, Chad Russell and his wife, Tara, of Middletown, and Ryan Mullen, of Batavia; Charlie died as he lived. He did it his way.
