Edgar T. Adams
Edgar Taylor "E.T." Adams, 64, of Middletown, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born on Nov. 21, 1934, in Malaga, Ky., and had lived in Middletown for 43 years. Mr. Adams was an independent truck driver for many years. He then was employed as a grounds keeper for the Willow Knoll Retirement Village and as a heavy equipment operator for Moraine Products of Middletown. He retired in 1997. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 3458, 2114 Oxford State Road, Middletown. He was preceded in death by his parents, Caleb and Minta (Halsey) Adams; an infant daughter; a sister, Ora Holland; and two brothers, Raymond and Ernie Adams. Surviving are his devoted wife of 42 years, Janice; a daughter, Belvuia K. Bumgardner, and her husband, Ric, of Middletown; two sons, Kenneth R. Adams and Edgar T. "Sonny" Adams, and his wife, Brenda, all of Middletown; two grandsons, Joseph T. and Steven A. Adams, both of Middletown; a step granddaughter, Samantha Sloan, and husband, Mike, of Kentucky; a step great-granddaughter, Natanya Sloan of Kentucky; a brother, Milton Adams, and wife, Gretchen, of Waynesville; and a sister, Bobbie Drake, and husband, Winfred, of Middletown.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 15, from noon to 2 p.m. at Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Keith Spencer officiating. Entombment will be in Woodside Cemetery Mausoleum.

Gertrude H. Alder
Mrs. Gertrude Herman Alder, 89, of Garden Manor Extended Care Center, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999. She was born in Middletown on Feb. 7, 1910, and lived her entire lifetime in Middletown. She was one of five daughters born to Charles and Henrietta Herman. She worked at Coyle Plumbing Co. until Bill Coyle's death. She then was employed by Mayme Gordon and Robert Gibbs at the John Arpp Plumbing Co. and had also worked at the old Gordon Theater for many years, retiring in 1952. She was married to Barney Alder in 1937 and he preceded her in death in 1978. During World War II, Mrs. Alder was active in the Red Cross, earning a citation from President Truman. She took pride in corresponding with many soldiers, knitted 200 sweaters for them and sold thousands of dollars worth of War Bonds at rallies. From 1980 to 1994, she wrote a column in the Middletown Journal which the editor (the late Paul Day) titled: "Remember When," which took one back to the "Good Old Days." Her mail to this day was hard to keep up with. Mrs. Alder is survived by only one sister, Virginia Jane Boxwell; and a number of nieces and nephews. Before coming to Garden Manor, she attended the Central Baptist Church and Brother Harold Thompson will officiate at her funeral.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, at the Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Woodside Cemetery.

James Alcorn
CARLISLE - James Alcorn, 66, of 561 Elm Drive,, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at 3:15 p.m. Two weeks before his death, James came to know his savior. He was born in Richmond, Ky., on Dec. 12, 1932, the son of Mozie and Melva Alcorn. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother Dallas; and two nephews, Tony and Jeff. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Shirley "Gould" Alcorn; two daughters, Janet Ketchem of Germantown and Sandy and husband Pete Wasner of Franklin, Tenn.; four sons, Dan and wife Mora Alcorn of Oceanside, Calif., Mike and Randy Alcorn of Franklin and Andy and wife Sharon Alcorn of Middletown; four sisters, Margaret Harvey of Franklin, Betty and husband Bruce Reeder of Oklahoma, Carolyn and husband Russell Middleton of Carlisle and Marilyn Wagner of Florida; two brothers, Eugene and wife Pat Alcorn of Carlisle and Robert Alcorn of Arizona; a sister-in-law, Brenda Gould of the Ivory Coast; 16 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and many other great family members and loving friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Unglesby-Anderson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim Hicks officiating. Burial will be at Hill Grove Cemetery in Miamisburg. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Freada T. Baker
Mrs. Freada T. (Morris) Baker, 93, of 113 S. Heinkel Road, Middletown, passed away Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, at her residence. She was born in Mount Summit, Ind., on April 13, 1906, the daughter of John M. and Ollie (Coyle) Morris. Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Irvin, in1937. She is survived by her daughter, Fay Bolender of Middletown; and a sister, Helen Baker of Franklin.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, at Eaton-Anderson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Walter Lamb officiating. Burial will be in Woodside Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

JoAnn S. Brown
MORAINE - JoAnn S. Brown, 61, of Moraine, passed away Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at her residence. She was a retired employee of Delphi Chassis with 22 years of service. She was preceded in death by her son, Donald R. Brown, Aug. 22, 1967, and by an uncle, Thorton McClain, April 19, 1989. She is survived by her husband, Earl R.; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Jo and Scott M. Marsh of Miamisburg; a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel R. and Diane Brown of Moraine; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe Kelly Shepherd and wife Barb and Doug Shepherd and wife Linda, both of Middletown; a sister, Darlene Winkler of Illinois; an aunt, Bertha McClain of Middletown, who raised her; stepmother Jenny Shepherd of Middletown; and six grandchildren, Danielle, Danay and Lindsey Brown, Erin and Bryan Marsh and Sarah Brown.

Bret D. Brubaker
Bret David Brubaker, 41, of Roswell, Ga., died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. He was born in Ashland, Ohio, on April 11, 1958, to Larry and Virginia (Keiser) Brubaker. Mr. Brubaker was employed in the hotel management business. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Brubaker of Roswell, Ga.; sons Eric Bradley, and Aaron David Brubaker of Roswell, Ga.; his father and stepmother, Larry and Annie Brubaker of Bethel, Ohio; his mother, Mrs. Virginia Keiser of Newport, Ky.; sisters, Mrs. Lori Brubaker and brother-in-law, Bill Mallory, of Acworth, Ga., and Ms. Melanie Brubaker of Atlanta; brothers, Larry Brubaker Jr. and Rob Brubaker of Newport, Ky.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Brad and Monica Brubaker of Springboro, Ohio, and Jeff and Peggy Brubaker and Jed and Janice Brubaker, all of Middletown, Ohio; a stepsister, Mary Kay (and Steve) Crone of Cincinnati; stepbrothers, Joe Keiser of Cincinnati and David (and Dena) Keiser of Amelia; and nieces and nephews.

Virgina B. Collins
Mrs. Virginia Belle (Mabry) Collins, 78, of Carthage (Cincinnati), Ohio, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999. She was a member of the Elmwood Wesleyan Church. She was the beloved wife of Elmer F. Collins; dear mother of Richard Allen Collins, Catherine Romona Tyson and Juanita Marie Wilson; and grandmother of Shawn Michael Collins and Bradley Scott Wilson. She is also survived by six step grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was a sister of William, Melvin, Alvin and Kenneth Mabry and the late James Hanford, Lonnie, Fannie Helen and Laurie Mabry. Mr. and Mrs. Collins were foster parents to 33 children over a 10-year period.

Ruth P. Flanagan
Ruth P. Flanagan, 92, of Middletown, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at Garden Manor Extended Care Center. She was born Feb. 6, 1907, in Magoffin County, Ky., the daughter of Buehl Picklesimer and Hattie (Whitt) Picklesimer. She received her master's degree from East Carolina College and was a devoted teacher for Middletown City Schools. Mrs. Flanagan was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She is survived by a sister, Opal Hatton of Middletown; nieces Yvonne Harrison of Roanoke, Va., Janice McGraw of Boiling Springs, Pa., Veva Nell Picklesimer of Middletown and Vivian Marini of Louisville; and nephews Norman Hatton of Greensboro, N.C., and Donald Hatton of Middletown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Beecher Flanagan, in 1950.

Celestine A. Frey
Celestine A. Frey, 91, of Middletown, passed away Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born on Aug. 13, 1908, in Belleville, Ill., to Benno and Anna (Andres) Frey. Mr. Frey was a member of St. John's Chapel of Holy Family Parish, the Knights of Columbus Council 1610 and the Holy Name Society at St. John's Chapel. Survivors include his wife, Alma E.; a son, James (Marjorie) Frey of Venice, Fla.; a daughter, JoAnn (Max) Gruendl of Annapolis, Md.; nine grandchildren, Maria (Dan) Tambellini, Marie (Bob) Clark, James (Jennifer) Frey II, Melissa Frey, Robert Gruendl, Elizabeth (Donnell) Harris, Jennifer (Michael) Hill, and Joseph and Nicholas Gruendl; and five great-grandchildren, Jonathan Tambellini, Michael Clark, Victoria and Samantha Frey and Alexander Hill. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Sylvester Frey.t

Friedrich Graf
Friedrich "Fred" Graf, 85, of Middletown, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born in Molidorf, Yugoslavia, on Jan. 20, 1914, and was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Graf was forced to leave his homeland and fled to Linz, Austria, where he resided with his family until 1952. He then emigrated to the United States in 1952 entering at Ellis Island. He was employed in maintenance at Fenwick High School for 25 years before retiring in 1979. He enjoyed football and gardening. Fred was the beloved husband of 60 years of Marjanna (Ceschan) Graf. He is also survived by a cherished daughter, Maria Elfriede Graf of Cincinnati; and two sisters, Susanna Nickels and Elisabeth Eschbach, both of Offenbach, Germany. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kristof and Kristina Graf; two sons, Peter and Gustav Graf; and a sister, Maria Jakob.

George C. Howard
George C. Howard, 75, of Middletown, passed away Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at Garden Manor in Middletown. He was born Nov. 19, 1923, in Breathitt County, Ky., then he moved to Middletown, where he worked for Armco for 40 years, retiring in 1986. He was also a World War II Army veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 218 for 26 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia "Ginny" Bair Howard; a son, Jeffrey L. Howard; grandchildren Benjamin J. Howard and Kelsey K. Howard; two brothers; and one sister. He is survived by one son, Gary C. Howard of Camden, Ohio; daughters Cathie F. Sherman and Janice S. Seals, both of Eaton, Ohio; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Paul Ray Howard of Indiana, James Blanton Howard of Indiana, and Forrest Howard of California.

Thelma G. Jett
Mrs. Thelma G. Jett., 82, of Middletown, passed away Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at the Barbara Parke Care Center in Middletown. She was born Feb. 9, 1917, in Indianapolis, Ind., and spent most of her life in Middletown. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray T. Jett, who died June 15, 1988, and by a brother, William A. Chapman. She is survived by her daughters, Betty Small, and her husband, Bob, of Bellfontaine, Ohio, and Linda Wills, and her husband, Joe, of Middletown; two sons, Curt F. Jett of Middletown and James R. Carl Jones
FRANKLIN - Carl Jones, 44, of 9655 Johnson Drive,, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born in Perry County, Ky., on Aug. 17, 1955, the son of Verlene and Ann Napier Jones. He owned and operated the Carl Jones Trucking Co. for the past five years. Preceding him in death was a brother, Harold Dean Jones. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Singleton Jones of Franklin ; a son, Bodie Michael Jones of Franklin; a daughter, Carla Sue Jones of Franklin; his father, Verlene Jones of Ocola, Fla.; his mother, Ann Toler of Franklin; two brothers, Mason Toler III of London, Ky., and Jeff Toler of Middletown; and a sister, Anna Jones of West Carrollton.

Edith Lindon
FRANKLIN-Mrs. Edith Lindon, of 4794 Betsy Drive, died Monday morning, Nov. 8, 1999, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born in Logansport, Ind., the daughter of Jesse Townsend and Alba (Vanderpool) Townsend. Mrs. Lindon worked for Jefferson Smurfit Co. for 33 years, retiring in 1990. She was a member of the Breiel Boulevard Church of God. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Allen Lindon; two daughters, Sondra Martz-Smith, and her husband, Anthony Smith, of Franklin, and Patsy Jean Jensen, and her husband, Thomas C. Jensen, of Franklin; a son, Charles Steven Lindon, and his wife, Catherine, of Franklin; four grandchildren, James Steven Martz, Joseph Dwight Jensen, John Matthew Jensen and Benjamin Steven Lindon; a great-granddaughter, Kylie Joe Jensen; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas Christopher Jensen II; five sisters, Cleo Cox, Adeline Patrick, Beulah Gose, Naomi Anthony and Ila Townsend; and three brothers, William, Joseph and Paul Townsend.

Alice McKenzie
FRANKLIN-Mrs. Alice McKenzie, 87, of Franklin, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Garden Manor Extended Care Center. She was born in Bath County, Ky., on Nov. 25, 1911, but had lived in this area for most of her life. Mrs. McKenzie was a nurse's aide and was self-employed in home health care. She was a member of the Towne Boulevard Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lacy Lee McKenzie; her parents, Elmer and Laura Patton; a grandson, Johnny Havens in 1986; a daughter, Phyllis Frye in 1967; five sisters, Ethel Ingram, Ida Crouch, Hattie Bottles, Olean Rose and Alfreda Patton; and four brothers, Oscar, Brackie, Tommy and Orma Patton. Survivors include a daughter, Janice Havens, and her husband, John, of Camden; three grandchildren, Rusty Havens of Middletown, Tressy Ball of Carlisle and Sondra Johnson of Franklin; four great-grandchildren, Chantell Havens, McKenzie Exner, Cheyenne McGlone and Brianna McGlone; a brother, Willie Patton of Jackson, Mich.; and a sister, Iva Lamb of Berea, Ky. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews.

Walter A. Mischley
Former Middletown area resident Walter A. Mischley passed away Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, in Fernandina Beach, Fla. He was born in Alpena, Mich., on Feb. 28, 1920. Mr. Mischley was a civil engineer graduate of Michigan State University where he was a charter member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He did graduated work in hospital management and finance at Purdue University and Stanford University. He and his wife, Ann, moved to Fernandina Beach in 1987 from Middletown, Ohio, where he was the president of the Middletown Hospital Association and served as the hospital chief executive for 26 years. The hospital grew from 150 beds at the time of his arrival to a 400 bed facility. He served as a member and chairman of many hospital association committees; a Fellow American College of Hospital Executives (F.A.C.H.E.), past president of the Greater Cincinnati Hospital Council, past president of Ohio Hospital Association, a board member of the American Hospital Association, regent of the American College of Hospital Executives, and a faculty preceptor at Xavier University and Ohio State University. He represented health systems of the U.S. in China, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Belgium and other locations in the U.S. Walt has been recognized for his accomplishments in Men of Achievement, Who's Who in Health Care and Who's Who in America. Prior to his tenure as a hospital administrator, he was city manager of Hartand Manistee, Michigan, and worked from 1951-1956 for the Atomic Energy Commission in Richland, Wash., responsible for city operations to convert a government owned city to an independent free-standing community. He was a World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Signal Corp. as a first lieutenant in the Pacific theater. Walter was an active member in community programs and organizations including being a member of Rotary for more than 50 years, Arts in Middletown, Middletown United Way, Red Cross, American Cancer Society, Boy Scouts Ministerial Association and the Middletown Area Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the Fernandina Beach, Fla.., Golf Association, served as chairman of the local Republic Party Committee of 100 Members and the Fernandina Beach Pension Board. He was an accomplished hobbyist. He enjoyed making furniture and creating fine jewelry. He is survived by his wife, Ann, and their two children, Walter A. Mischley II of Fernandina Beach, Fla., and Sally O'Brien of Ben Lomond, Calif.; four grandchildren, Walter and Christopher Mischley and Matthew and Laura O'Brien; and his sisters, Vivian and Virginia Mischley of Alpena, Mich.
ARRANGEMENTS: Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at the Oxley-Heard Funeral Home, Fernandina Beach, Fla. Private burial will take place at the convenience of the family.

Helen Mondics
GERMANTOWN-Mrs. Henen B. Mondics, 89, of Germantown, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born on Oct. 2, 1910, in Germantown, Ohio, the daughter of the late Harry and Myrtie (Smith) Boyer. She was retired from NCR Corp. and Monsanto. Helen was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Marion B. Emrick; and her husband of 42 years, John S. Mondics Sr.; a son, Frederick B. (Fritz) Emrick; a great-grandson, Zachary Garbig; and five sisters and a brother. Helen is survived by two daughters, Alda (Dave) Nan of Germantown and Noretta (J.C.) Strayer of New Iberia, La.; a stepdaughter, Elizabeth (Tom) Stephens of Arcanum; a stepson, John S. (Barbara) Mondics Jr. of Arcanum; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Emrick of Tacoma, Wash.; two sisters, Dorothy Savage of Franklin and Mary Russell of Germantown; 22 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

FRANKLIN-Mrs. Marie S. Mote, a native of Richmond, Ky., passed away after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at Hospice of Dayton. She was 88 years old and had resided in Harpland in Franklin for 43 years. She is survived by three daughters, Billie K. Leslie of West Carrollton, Jo Ann Mote and Carolyn M. Akers, both living in Franklin; also two granddaughters, Debra E. Davis of West Carrollton and Laura M. Akers of Columbus; a niece, Sue Cook of Corpus Christi, Texas; and two great-nieces, Catherine Albert of Corpus Christi and Pamela Slote of Hingwood, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth E. Mote in 1996; and a great-grandson, Jason Ty Davis in 1998. Marie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Franklin where she served as secretary of the Pollyanna Class for 36 years and sang in the church choir for 36 years. She was a member of the Village Singers, a charter member of the Franklin Historical Society and Daughters of America Lodge. She was a past president of the Christian Ladies Breakfast Club for 25 years and served as a correspondent for the Franklin Chronicle for several years. She was also a scout leader of Troop 112 as well as a member of the Missionary Society.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at Eaton-Anderson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gary Hartman officiating. Burial will be in Woodhill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Aubrey F. Mullins
FRANKLIN-Aubrey Finis Mullins, 78, of 5511 Decker Road, passed away Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at Hospice of Dayton. He was born in Highland, Ky., on March 12, 1921, the son of William Thomas and Carrie (Hunt) Mullins. He was employed by NCR Corp., Dayton, in the frame department for 30 years, retiring in 1976. Mr. Mullins was a member of the Miamisburg Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife of five years, June (Stephens) Mullins; a daughter, Linda Williams of Miamisburg; stepsons Mike King of Monroe, Alan King of Madison, Miss., and Greg King of Vandalia; a stepdaughter, Becky Cantrell of Middletown; two sisters, Mildred Sabastian of Waynesburg, Ky., and Nora Chadwell of West Carrollton; grandchildren Charles Gregory Allen and Linda Michele Allen; two great-grandchildren, Ceara Allen and Dani Allen; nine step grandchildren; and six step great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, at the Fox Funeral Home, Stanford, Ky., with Brother Rob Cox officiating. Burial will be at Buffalo Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Unglesby-Anderson Funeral Home.

Beverly Mullis
FRANKLIN-Mrs. Beverly (Dotson) Mullis, 55, of 728 S. Main St., passed away Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, at Southview Hospital. She was born in Middletown, Ohio, on Oct. 23, 1944, the daughter of Riley Leonard Bud and Betty Jane (Routt) Dotson. Mrs. Mullis was employed for the past 12 years at Bank One as an account receivable clerk. Her father preceded her in death. She is survived by her sons, Doug Haddix, and wife, Kim, of Trenton, and Scott Haddix of Franklin; her husband, Don Mullis; her mother, Betty Dotson of Middletown; and two grandchildren, Matthew and Kaitlyn.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, at Eaton-Anderson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Springboro Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Joyce A. Oliver
Joyce Ann Oliver, daughter of the late Carl and Glennis Oliver, was born in Middletown, Ohio, on May 7, 1950, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She departed this life on Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, after an extended illness. She was a graduate of Middletown High School, class of 1966. She attended Miami University for two years. Joyce leaves to cherish her memory, three devoted sisters, Polly (Bobby) Clark, Carolyn (Norman) Phillips and Marlene (David) Howard, all of Middletown; three aunts, Florence Cargill and Jessie Massey, both of Middletown and Janie B. Williams of Pontiac, Mich.; a special aunt, Thelma (John) Barnes of Middletown; a great-aunt, Callie Calhoun of Cincinnati; four nieces, Tamarra Young, Jai Howard, Joslin and Ta'la Johnson, all of Middletown; four nephews, Kenneth (Deborah) Clark of Dayton, Ohio, Ronald Clark of Middletown, and David Howard Jr. and Judton Howard of Lebanon, Ohio; and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, at Hall-Jordan Memorial Chapel, 918 S. Main St., with the Rev. N.L. Cooper officiating. Visitation will be from noon until time of service Friday at the chapel.

Park Owens
Park Owens, 89, of 3304 Yankee Road, died Friday evening, Nov. 12, 1999, at his residence. The Kentucky native was born on Oct. 9, 1910, a son of Elbert and Pearl (Cox) Owens, and had lived in this area most of his life. Mr. Owens worked for 47 years at Diamond National, retiring in 1979 as supervisor in the beater room. He was a longtime member of the Grace Baptist Church. He leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Jim Pleak of Middletown; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Trinkie Owens of Middletown; two granddaughters, Tori Owens and Pam Pleak; seven grandsons, Bart, Tony, Richie and Ted Owens, and Tom, Tim and Jim Pleak; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Sadie Miller; and two brothers, Glenn and Irvin Owens. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline in 1979; a son, Ronald in 1983; and a grandson, Brett Ronald in 1987.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Baptist Church, with Dr. Howard Sears officiating. Burial will follow in Grace Memorial Cemetery. Visitation is today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home.

Bettie L. Perkins
Mrs. Bettie L. Perkins, 69, of Cortland Circle, Geneva, Ohio, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, at the Country Club Retirement Center in Ashtabula, Ohio. She was born on Feb. 17, 1930, in Geneva, the daughter of Penrose and Helen (Marshall) Burkolder. She was a graduate of Geneva High School in 1947. She had been employed by Carlisle's Department Store in Ashtabula and Geneva. She retired from Geneva Memorial Hospital where she had worked in the admitting office. Mrs. Perkins was a member of Park Street Christian Church of Geneva, Grace Chapter 11 Order of Eastern Star of Geneva where she was a Past Matron, and was also a member of the Geneva Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Her hobbies were enjoying her grandchildren and traveling. Surviving are her son, Richard J. Perkins of Mentor, Ohio; a daughter, Marilyn J. Noll of Middletown; three brothers, Harry Burkholder of Harpersfield, Donald Burkholder of Jefferson, Ohio, and Ronald Burkholder of Perry, Ohio; a sister, Hallie Hutchins of Ashtabula; and four grandchildren, Matthew and Nicholas Perkins and Kristin and Jessica Noll. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard E. Perkins on May 4, 1991; and a brother, David Burkholder.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Kennedy-Billman Funeral Home, a Family Care Group Affiliate, 323 S. Broadway, Geneva, Ohio, with the Rev. Larry Wade of the Park Street Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Geneva.Calling hours will be Sunday, Nov. 14, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home, with an Eastern Star service at 5:45 p.m.

Dudley H. Pierson
Dudley H. Pierson, 88, of 609 The Alameda, died at Hawthorn Glen Nursing Center Monday morning, Nov. 8, 1999. He was born on June 24, 1911, in Booneville, Ky., the son of Robert and Gerde Bowles Pierson. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Pierson had been employed at Montgomery Ward Co. He was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 218. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Elsie E. Pierson; a daughter, Gail Mack of Middletown; a grandson and his wife, David and Christine Mack, of Somerville, Ohio; five great-grandchildren, David, Elizabeth, Sarah, Christine, and Thomas Mack; and a brother, William E. Pierson of Treasure Island, Fla.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home, with the Rev. Johnny Schmitt officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery where the American Legion Post 218 Color Guard will conduct military honors.

Dorothy L. Pilkenton
CARLISLE-Mrs. Dorothy Lois Pilkenton, 77, formerly of 142 Montgomery Ave., passed away Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at Piqua Manor. She was born in Pound, Va., on Dec. 13, 1921. Mrs. Pilkenton was a member of the Community Baptist Church of Franklin. Preceding her in death were her parents, and her husband, Ray Pilkenton, in 1994. She is survived by her son, Larry Pilkenton of Miamisburg; three daughters, Cheryla Gwinn of Middletown, Judi Cooley of El Paso, Texas, and Linda Wiley of Piqua; a brother, Edgar Fletcher of Detroit, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, at Unglesby-Anderson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Loma Gwinn officiating. Burial will be in Butler County Memorial Park in Trenton. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Harlow H. Piper
Harlow H. Piper, 78, of Forsyth, ill., died at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at his residence. Mr. Piper, who had lived in Middletown briefly, was born on Nov. 6, 1921, in Princeton, Ill., the son of Hiram E. and Ina (Bradley) Piper. He graduated from Northwestern University in 1943 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He served two years as a deck officer in the U.S. Navy. He was employed as a design engineer by Caterpillar, Inc., retiring after 40 years in 1986. He married Betty Jean Grant on May 7, 1949, in Middletown, Ohio. Mr. Piper was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Decatur, Ill., where he served many years as treasurer of the trustees, a Sunday school teacher, chaplain for United Methodist Men, and active participant in the Early Birds Bible Study. He was a district president of United Methodist Men. He helped to found and served as president of the Good Samaritan Inn, whose purpose is to feed the hungry. He was an Emeritus Board Member of the Mental Health Association, also having served as its president. Later, he served as president of the Mental Health Association of Illinois. In 1990, the Sertoma Club honored his many volunteer activities with the "Services to Mankind Award." He had also served as president of the local chapters of the Society of Automotive Engineers and the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers.
ARRANGEMENTS: Memorial services will be held in the First United Methodist Church in Decatur, Ill., at 11 a.m. today, Nov. 13, followed by a private family service and entombment in the Star of Hope Mausoleum, Graceland Cemetery, Decatur. Visitation was Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brintlinger's Funeral Home in Decatur.

Ruth E. Reight
Mrs. Ruth Emig Reight, 84, a lifelong resident of Gahanna, Ohio, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999. She was a life member of Peace Lutheran Church in Gahanna having been raised, baptized, confirmed and married in the church. She was a founding member of Ruth's Circle. Mrs. Reight was preceded in death by a son, Joseph G. Reight. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Joseph F. Reight; two daughters, Susan Klein of Orlando, Fla., and Lenia (Kenneth) Hammond of Trenton, Ohio; a son, Fred (Dorothy) Reight of Hebron, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at the Peace Lutheran Church, 455 Clark State Road, Gahanna, with Pastor Earl Fritz officiating. Interment will be at Mifflin Township Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the new Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 E. Johnstown Road (at Beecher Road) in Gahanna and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.

Leroy Stewart
Leroy Stewart, 79, of Franklin, passed away Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at Willow Knoll Nursing Home. He was born in Middletown, Ohio, on Sept. 1, 1920, to James and Sarah (Gross) Stewart and lived in this area most of his life. He retired from Armco Steel Co. in 1970 as a first helper after 25 years of service. Mr. Stewart was a member of Grace Baptist Church, George M. Verity Masonic Lodge and was a Kentucky Colonel. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Christine (Tipton) Stewart; a daughter and her husband, Linda and J. Larry Anderson of Middletown; a son and his wife, Ronald Leroy and Jackie Stewart of Middletown; five grandchildren, Jeff Stewart, and his wife, Sara, Ronnie Stewart, and his wife, Cheryl, Greg Anderson, and his wife, Jenny, Jodi Winters, and her husband, Steve, and Jill Anderson; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Jack, Hargis and Luther Stewart; and three sisters, Alpha Fosdick Mit Cole and Lou Carpenter.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home in Middletown, with the Rev. Howard Sears officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home, with a Masonic service planned for 1:45 p.m.
