Mary E. Anders
Mrs. Mary E. Anders, 79, of Camden, Ohio, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
Mary was born in Breathitt County, Ky., on April 10, 1921, and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by a son, David English; her mother, Hazel Combs; a sister, Gladys Prasec; a granddaughter, Patricia Theresa Hensley, age 3; and her former husband and the father of her children, Goodloe Combs, on Jan. 11, 1965.
She is survived by her husband of 32 years, James D. Anders; two sons Rick Combs of Las Vegas, Nev., and Goodloe Phil Combs Jr. of Middletown; four daughters, Donna Weathers of Monroe, Judy Worley of Franklin, Kay Combs of Alaska and Cindy Sprinkle of Middletown; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Sarah Lee Anderson
Mrs. Sarah Lee (Southers) Anderson, 70, of Dayton, passed away Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Miami Valley Hospital.
Sarah Lee was born in Quicksand, Ky., on Dec. 7, 1930, to James and Lillie (Duncil) Southers. Sarah graduated from Germantown High School in the Class of 1948. She was a homemaker and an avid animal lover. She would often take in stray animals and would look after and care for them.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Floyd Southers.
Leaving to cherish her memory, she is survived by her husband of 25 years, William Anderson; her mother, Lillie Southers of Middletown; her sister, Betty Lee of Franklin; three neices, Vonda McFarland of Middletown, Angie Southers of Germantown and Wanda Jennings of Franklin; four nephews, Terry Southers of Dayton, Ray Southers of Middletown, Ryan Southers of Kentucky and Gary Lee of Springboro; ner stepson, Wil Anderson, and two step-grandchildren, Josh and Candace Anderson, all of New Hampshire; numerous great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at the Dalton Funeral Home, corner of Ohio 4 and Weaver Road, Germantown.

Betty Sue Beam
TRENTON -- Mrs. Betty Sue Beam, 61, of Trenton, Ohio, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
A native of Mount Sterling, Ky., she was born on Dec. 7, 1939, and had lived in this area since 1955. Mrs. Beam was a homemaker and loved to sew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Josh and Geneva Adams; and a sister, Doris Duff.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, James H. Beam; daughters, Sherry Lynn Poff (Jake) of Trenton, Tracy Ann Williams (Benny) and Sandy Kay Slamka (Dennis), both of Middletown, and Tammy Sue Snow of Monroe; a son, James Harvey Beam Jr. of Fort Mitchell, Ky.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, at Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home in Middletown, with Pastor Eric Brazelton officiating. Interment will be at the Butler County Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Harry F. Beckett
FRANKLIN -- Harry F. Beckett, 78, of 448 E. Fourth St., formerly of Vanceburg, Ky., died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Hillspring Nursing Home in Springboro, Ohio, after an extended illness.
He was born in Athalia, Ohio, on Jan. 20, 1922, to the late O. M. Beckett and Berva (Burchum) Beckett. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Beckett retired from Armco Steel Co. in 1982 with 36 years of service in hot strip mill maintenance. He was married to his wife, Mary Ruth (Plummer) Beckett, for 51 years.
Among his survivors are his wife, Mary Ruth of Franklin, Ohio; a son, Steve Beckett of Tipp City, Ohio; a sister, Kathleen (husband Argel) Lowe of Satellite Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren, Heather, Caitlin and Tyler Beckett; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Garrett Beckett.

Verola T. Benigno
Verola Thomas Benigno, 79, passed away Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at her home in Moraga, Calif.
She was born on Nov. 3, 1921, and was raised in Middletown. She graduated from Middletown High School in 1939.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Hobart and Inez Thomas; two brothers, Zane Keith and Joseph Gail Thomas, and a sister-in-law, Barbara Lamme Thomas, all of Middletown; and a son, David Benigno of California.
She is survived by a son, Michael Benigno of Jan Jose, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Steve Mazaika, and their sons, David and Darran, all of Moraga, Calif.; several nieces and nephews of Middletown; and many beloved cousins.
ARRANGEMENTS: A private service was concluded for the family earlier in California.

John Calhoun III
John Calvin "Man" Calhoun III, 29, of Middletown, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born Nov. 7, 1971, in Middletown, to John Calvin II and Sara Calhoun.
"Man" was a graduate of Middletown High School in the class on 1991. He was a lover of football and baseball. He played from pee-wee on through high school. "Man" was a running back for the Middletown Middies and was a pitcher for the Middies. He also played in knothole ball. He really loved sports. John was a very gentle, loving person and always had a smile. He was always giving and ready to lend a helping hand. John loved his family and two daughters very much. "Man" had many, many friends who enjoyed spending time with him.

Jack Campbell
Jack Roger Campbell, 67, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001. Formerly of Cincinnati, he had been a resident of Naples, Fla., for the past three years.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He was a deputy sheriff at Hamilton County (Cincinnati) Jail until his retirement in 1997.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Lauren Campbell.

Chester Carroll
Chester Carroll, 67, of Middletown, passed away at Middletown Regional Hospital Sunday afternoon, Jan. 14, 2001.
He retired from Aeronca in 1995 after 44 1/2 years as a tac welder.
Mr. Carroll is survived by his wife, Christine; two daughters, Suzie Albi and Heather Willis Carroll, both of Middletown; two sons, Rickie Carroll and Glen Carroll, both of Kentucky; 11 grandchildren; three brothers, Kendial Carroll of Dalton, Ga., Ed Carroll of Brighton, Mich., and Vernon Carroll, Jr., of South Lyon, Mich; two sisters, Allene Allen of Middletown and Ruby Miller of Crossville, Tenn.; four stepsons, James Edward Eads of Mason, Doug Jackson and Dale Jackson, both of Middletown, and Duke Bowman of Morrow; a stepdaughter, Bertie Mae Fultz of Middletown; numerous nieces and mephews; special friends, Frank and Sharon Chambers; and a host of great friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Carroll was preceded in death by four brothers, Benny Jean Carroll, and Billy, Kenneth and Roland Carroll.

Birdie Cheesman
Birdie Cheesman, 96, of Middletown, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Willow Knoll Nursing Care Center.
She was born Aug. 6, 1904, in Frenchburg, Ky., the daughter of Benjamin Morrison and Ida Francis (Coldiron) Morrison. Mrs. Cheesman was a member of Ridgecrest Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Cheesman Sr., and two sons, Jack Franklin Smallwood and James Edward Cheesman.

Mary L. Conley
Mrs. Mary L. Conley, 75, of Trenton, was released into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
Mary was born in Middletown, Ohio, on July 20, 1925, and was a lifelong resident of Franklin, Ohio. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Conley was a member of the Christian Assembly of God, the Left Behind Friends and Brothers and Sisters at the Trenton First Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Conley Jr. in 1992; her parents, Herman and Pearl Scholl; a daughter, Donna R. Mullins; a sister, Ethel Helton; and brothers John, Donald and George Scholl.
She leaves a son, Ron L. Conley, and his wife, Julie, of Middletown; five grandchildren, Kimberly, Chad, Megan, Ryan and Mason Conley; and a brother, Charles Scholl of Bradenton, Fla.

Larry M. DeHart Sr.
After a long and courageous battle with leukemia, Larry Millard DeHart Sr. passed away Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Jewish Hospital, Cincinnati, at the age of 52.
He is survived by grandchildren Dylan and Trevor Maxx Bruce; sisters-in-law Carol Pfaff, Diane (Rudy) Diaz, Andrea (Straud) DeHart and Linda (Steve) Zulock; brothers-in-law Jim and Jerry O'Flynn; nieces Mary Frances Pfaff and Tiffany Marie Zulock; nephew Michael Diaz; godmother Suzanne Slamka; special friends Greg Slamka, Dainus and Sandy Hicks, Bob and Susie McCloud, and Steve Alderman; and mother-in-law Pat Lane.
He was preceded in death by brother-in-law, Mike O'Flynn.
He is also survived by many other dear friends and relatives.
Before his retirement, Larry was employed by Jefferson-Smurfitt Corp. for 26 years as a stock-prep operator and was a Vietnam veteran.

FRANKLIN -- Mrs. Mildred "Tommy" (Hornsby) Dodson, 81, formerly of Franklin, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, in Havelock, N.C.
Mildred was the daughter of John and Mary Brock Hornsby.
She is survived by her son, William A. Dodson of Havelock, N.C.; three daughters, Mary Margaret Patrick of Springboro, Daisy Napier of Lexington and Ella Mae Pearson of Hillsboro; a brother, John Hornsby of Hamilton; a sister, Florence Hufnagle; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Tommy was preceded in death by her husband, William, in 1986.

Harold C. Duff
Harold C. "Red" Duff, 80, of Middletown, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Dayton.
He was born on Feb. 14, 1920, in Winchester, Ky., and lived here most of his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Duff was property manager for Heritage Investments for 15 years before retiring in 1985.
He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3809 of Middletown, and a former member of American Legion Post 218 and Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 528 of Middletown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Garfield and Effie (Blair) Duff; and two brothers, Thomas F. and Bill Duff.
He leaves his wife of 50 years, Opal V. Duff; a daughter, Karen S. Ryan of Middletown; a son, William H. Duff of New Richmond, Ohio; a stepson, Arthur Lee Spicer of Trenton; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Glen Duff of Middletown.
He will be sadly missed.

Tony Ellis
Tony Ellis, 81, of Kettering, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2001.
He served as a lieutenant with the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. Tony was the owner of the Carpet House on Wilmington Pike in Kettering for 30 years before retiring in 1985.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Nina; a son, Stephen Ellis of Morristown, Tenn.; four daughters, Mary Ann Ellis of Dayton, Barbara (James) Trehearne of Seattle, Wash., Nikki Burns (Bob Feldmann) of Kettering and Delores (Tom) Minor of Lexington, Ky.; three brothers, Harry (Beatrice), Charles (Janet) and James (Harriet), all of Dayton; two sisters, Mary Craft of Cleveland and Connie (Sam) Mellas of Dayton; and seven grandchildren, Nicole and Nisa Trehearne, Michael Burns, Angela Ellis and Eleni, Callie and Anthony Minor.

She was born on June 10, 1927 in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of Stephen and Ruth (McGreevy) Faherty.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, in 1995.
Mrs. Fitzgerald is survived by four sons, Thomas Fitzgerald, and his wife, Susan Adams, of Eastville, Va., Stephen, and his wife, Terry Fitzgerald, of Athens, Ga., James Fitzgerald of Middletown and Timothy Fitzgerald of Mason; a daughter, Bridget, and her husband, Craig Janeck, of Mason; a brother, Timothy, and his wife, Cathy Faherty, of Canton, Ohio; a sister, Anne Marie Faherty of Columbus, Ohio; an aunt, Agnes Hudack of West Chester; and two grandchildren, Stephen and Adam Fitzgerald.

Billy Ray Fultz
Billy Ray Fultz, 48, of Noblesville, Ind., died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at his residence.
He was born in Middletown, Ohio, on Feb. 11, 1952, the son of Donald E. and Elsie (Taublee) Fultz. Mr. Fultz was a sales representative for Scott Industrials in Indianapolis, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Surviving are his wife, Diane (Dummel) Fultz; his mother, Elsie Fultz-Manning of Middletown; a son, Thomas Fultz of Franklin, Ohio; two sisters, Diane Rose and Brenda Smith, both of Middletown; and two stepsons, Michael D. Zajdel and Robert S., and his wife, Barb, of Indianapolis, Ind.
Cynthia L. Gates
Cynthia Louise Gates, 61, of Middletown, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001 at Hospice of Mercy Hospital in Hamilton, Ohio.
She was born on July 3, 1939, in Middletown, Ohio, to the late Robert and Emma (Reese) Gates. Cynthia was a dedicated member of Bethel A.M.E. Church who lived her life diligently serving the Lord daily and giving of herself unselfishly to others for whatever their need might be.
Cynthia sang in the choir her entire life and in community choirs. She sang in the group called "The Gospel Five." She had a great talent which she loved to use to glorify the name of Jesus. She transported senior citizens, worked with children, helped at all church functions and with community organizations. She also worked with children with learning disabilities at Vail Middle School and Creekview Elementary School.
Besides her parents, Cynthia was also preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Ann Hinton and Nancy Gates.
Cynthia leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Shelley Dee Gates of Middletown; her stepmother, Mary Lee Gates; sisters Christell, Josephine and Jacqueline, all of Middletown; five brothers, Robert Lee Gates of Chicago, Ill., Paul Gates of Dayton, James (Pam) Gates of Middletown, David (Florine) Gates of Meadow Lark, Texas, and Tom Gates of Dayton, Ohio; a stepsister, Margaret Quinn of New York; three grandchildren, Larry Reep Gates of Edgewater, N.J., Summer Louise, and Lester Gates and Derrick (Poodie) Gates, all of Middletown; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Julia Hatton
Julia Hatton, 73, formerly of Middletown, passed away Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, Ky.
She was born in Winchester, Ky., on April 1, 1927.
Survivors include her children, Donnie L. (Etta) Williams of Middletown, Gary D. (Helen) Williams of North Carolina and Chester L. Hatton; six grandchildren, Tina (Stephen) Dunn of Germantown, James Hatton, Ryan and Brittany Williams, Chase Hatton and Dillon Hatton; two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Tyler Dunn; four sisters, Louey Hatton, Zella Smith, Roena Brown and Elsie Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Raymond Hatton; four brothers, Earl, Caney, Dorsey and George Smith; and a sister, Betty Jean Peck.

Albert Howard
Albert Howard, 65, of Springboro, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
He was born in Breathitt County, Ky., on Oct. 18, 1935, the son of Ashford and Rebecca (Fugate) Howard.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Iona Daniels.
He was a self-employed carpenter for many years until his retirement.

Mary Jane Kinnear
Mrs. Mary Jane Kinnear, 90, of Middletown, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at Garden Manor Extended Care Center.
She was born on Dec. 20, 1910, in Hamilton, Ohio, the daughter of Stanley Ogg and Alma (Koehler) Ogg. Mrs. Kinnear attended Redeemer United Church of Christ.
She is survived by a daughter, Joan (husband Alan B.) Cooper of Middletown; three grandchildren, Amy Cupples, Dr. Diane Cooper and Jim Cooper; three great-grandchildren, Michael and Kate Cooper and Lauren Cupples.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Kinnear in 1986 and her parents.

Robert H. Laws
Robert Huey Laws, 61, of Middletown, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at his residence.
He was born on May 14, 1939, in Hempstead, Texas. He moved from Texas to Middletown in 1984. Mr. Laws was a graduate of Texas A&M University with both bachelor of science and master of science degrees. He was employed as an analytical chemist for Armco/AK Steel Co. for 19 years.
He was formerly employed as head chemist at Southwestern Laboratories in Houston, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his father, Albert H. Laws.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Carolyn F. Laws; a son, Robert Lawrence "Larry" Laws of Houston, Texas; his mother, Faye Laws of Alpharetta, Ga.; a sister, Betty Smith, and her husband, Leland, of Big Canoe, Ga.; two nephews, Trey Smith, and his wife, Beth, of Loveland, Ohio, and Brad Smith, and his wife, Debbie, of Dallas, Texas; a niece, Linda Davis, and husband, Rob, of Colorado; great nieces and nephews Adam, Blake, Julie, Virginia, Laws and Macrae Smith, and Drew Davis; and a host of friends.

Mario Lolli
Mario Lolli, 76, of Middletown, passed away Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
A Middletown native, he was born on Dec. 9, 1924, to Fernando and Louisa (Ranalli) Lolli. Mr. Lolli served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 218, Disabled American Veterans 131, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3809 and Eagles Aerie 528. He will be remembered for his good nature and fantastic sense of humor.
Surviving are a daughter, Belinda Bradley of Glens Falls, N.Y.; a sister, Maria (Jim) Ricchio of Hamilton, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; a good friend, Geneva Giles; and a good friend and neighbor, Dorothy Barrett.

LEBANON -- Stephen E. Longacre, 60, of Lebanon, and a lifetime Warren County resident, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Kettering Medical Center.
Born in Lebanon, Ohio, on Nov. 30, 1940, to Calvin and Ina (Burnett) Longacre, he was a graduate of Waynesville High School and a member of the Lytle United Methodist Church. Mr. Longacre was a senior sales associate with Henkle-Schueler Realtors for 16 years. He was a member of the national, Ohio and Warren County Boards of Realtors and was past president of the Warren County Board.
His parents, a son, Richard, and a brother, Keith, all preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Janet (Durham) Longacre; a son, Daniel of Bowling Green; a brother, Virgil of West Union; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Norma and David Stratton of Lebanon and Carol and Robert Campbell of Waynesville; a sister-in-law, Joy Durham Chong of Miamisburg; and many nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Jan. 12, at Oswald-Hoskins Funeral Home in Lebanon, with an Elks service at 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at the funeral home. Dr. William C. Cain will officiate. Interment will follow in Miami Cemetery, Corwin.
Donald H. Malcom
Donald H. Malcom, 86, died peacefully Monday, Jan. 8, 2001. He was a native of Oto, Iowa, and a resident of Port St. Lucie, Fla., for the last 20 years.
Prior to his retirement he was marketing manager for Armco Steel Co. in Middletown, Ohio.
Mr. Malcom was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, and a son, Joseph.

Billie Frances Mayer
Mrs. Billie Frances Mayer, 82, entered heaven Sunday morning, Jan. 14, 2001, at 10:20 a.m. She had been a patient at Middletown Regional Hospital since Dec. 27.
Billie was born in Middletown, Ohio, on Feb. 1, 1918, to John Barnett and Beulah Summers (Crane) Smith. She was a devoted mother and homemaker. During the war, she worked at Filson's Dress Shop and later at the Joy Shop on Central Avenue. She was also a volunteer at the Middletown Clothing Depot.
Billie was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church and also loved to visit and fellowship at Eastview Baptist Church with her daughter and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar W. Waddell in 1965; her husband, Ernest W. Mayer in 1995; her parents; and a brother, Clifton E. Smith.
She leaves behind her loving daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Jack Barr; granddaughter, Lisa Barr; her sister, Vivian Jolliff of Lebanon; a nephew, Ted Rudie of Waco, Ky.; nieces, Millie (Paul) Tutt, Marion (Sonny) Taylor and Phyllis (Jack) Logsdon; and many great-nieces and nephews. She also leaves dear neighbors and friends who have become an important part of her family.
Although we the family grieve this loss, we have the assurance and comfort found in II Corinthians 5:7-8: "For we walk by faith, not sight. We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord."
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home today, Jan. 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, with the Revs. David Moreland and Dwaine Tilford officiating. David J. McLaughlin
David J. McLaughlin, 75, of Middletown, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
He was born in Middletown on April 8, 1925, and was a lifelong resident of this area. He attended Holy Trinity School and graduated from Middletown High School in 1943.
David was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, American Legion Post 218, Veterans of Foreign Wars 3809, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 131 and Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 501.
He attended Holy Trinity Church of Holy Family Parish.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ebenezer and Helen McLaughlin; a brother, Jerry D. McLaughlin; and a sister, Mary Gross.

Jayne P. Paulson
HAMILTON -- Jayne P. Paulson, 65, of Hamilton, died at the Butler County Care Facility at 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001.
Born in Holton, Ind., on May 15, 1935, she is the daughter of Perrell and Florence (Bostic) Salyers. She was educated in Holton, Indiana, schools and she attended Boliver College. She married Pastor Kenneth Roy Paulson on June 29, 1957, at Dabney Baptist Church in Holton, Ind., and he preceded her in death on April 18, 1990.
Mrs. Paulson worked for the Ohio Casualty Insurance Co. for 11 years as a stenographer, and she was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Mark David Paulson, and his wife, Sandra, of Trenton, and Gregory Keith Paulson, and his wife, Deborah, of Mason; four grandchildren, Joshua, Elijah, Justin and Danielle Paulson; two brothers, Paul Saylers, and his wife, Mary, of Versailles, Ind., and Mark Salyers, and his wife Doris, of West Prot, Ind.; and two sisters, Hilda Lustig, and her husband, Harold, of Clarksville, Ind., and Shirley Brown, and her husband, Herb, of Barron, Wis.

George W. Rothwell
Former Middletown resident George William Rothwell, 72, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away at 7:34 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Mercy Hospital in Fairfield where he had been a patient for the past 14 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret (Rushart) Rothwell and Chester William Rothwell; two sisters, Louise (Rothwell) Keyser and Mary (Rothwell) Raivio.
He is survived by a son, Douglas Rothwell (Karen) of Franklin, Ohio; a daughter, Beverly Baker (Jesse) of Carlisle, Ohio; a brother, Paul C. Rothwell (Jean) of Loveville, Md.; two sisters, Joan Rose (William) of Fairfield, Ohio, and Nora Mantz (Edwin) of Monroe; two granddaughters; a great-grandson and a great-granddaughter; and by his former spouse, Rebecca (Busby) Rothwell.

Flora Sanderson
Flora Grace Sanderson, 68, of Trenton, loving wife of 53 years, mother of five, grandma to nine and great-grandma to 12, went Home to be with her Father on Friday, January 12, 2001. She left behind her husband, Donald Eugene Sanderson, whom she had loved since the third grade and married on December 27, 1947.
Together they raised Wanita Catherine Hatton (Lawrence), Edith Diane Warmoth (James), Paul Arthur Sanderson, Jacqueline Louise Taylor (Mike) and Perry Gene Sanderson.
Mom was born the eldest daughter of the late Dave Woolum and Catherine Woolum, who survives her. She was born Sept. 19, 1933, in Middletown. She leaves her sister, Zeola Riley, and brothers, David and Frank Woolum. Grandchildren include Michelle Lynn Swartz (Mark), Tamra Lynn Schaff, Samantha Arlene Triplett (Tim), Donald Eugene Hatton (Shannon), James Edward Warmoth Jr., Amy Lee Allen, Anthony Wayne Taylor, Jennifer Jo Lee Lawson (Tommy) and Nicole Elizabeth Sanderson.

Ruth E. Shiflett
FRANKLIN -- Mrs. Ruth E. Shiflett, 80, of Franklin, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Sycamore Hospital.
Ruth has recently resided at Heartland of Oakridge in Miamisburg. She was formerly active in Franklin Amvets Auxiliary and the Eastern Star Masonic Lodge in Franklin. She was a native of Farmersville and the daughter of Earl and Lillian Borger
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Tom, in 1983.
Survivors include her daughters, Thora Smith of Camden, and Gloria Osborne and Barbara Shiflett, both of Franklin; a brother, Perle Keister of Miamisburg; sisters, Vernelle Millikin of Farmersville and Helen L. Cromer of Lebanon; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

HAMILTON -- Hazel Shiplet, 92, a former resident of Hamilton, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001.
She was born in Irvine, Ky., on May 10, 1908, the daughter of Cash and Mary Elizabeth (Cox) Willis. She was united in marriage to Raymond H. Shiplet on May 10, 1928.
Survivors include her children, Marjorie E. Jackson, Raymond A Shiplet and Victoria (William) Combs; six grandchildren, Stephen Jackson, Susan E. Phillips, Raymond A. Shiplet Jr., David (Julie) Shiplet, Jennifer Combs and William L. (Jennifer) Combs II; and eight great-grandchildren, Jessica and Joseph Jackson, Stefanie E. and Joshua Phillips, and Brandi, Tyler, Dana and Victoria Shiplet.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and four brothers and four sisters.

Courtney Paige Smith, infant daughter of Kenneth Roberts and Angela Smith, passed away at Middletown Regional Hospital on Wednesday. She was born at Middletown on Jan. 10, 2001.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her maternal grandparents, Roxana Hunt of Middletown and Keith Smith of Dayton; paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Mary Roberts of Middletown; three brothers, Jeffrey Smith, Kyle Young and Gage Roberts; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Virginia M. South
Mrs. Virginia May South, 78, of Middletown, passed away at 9:41 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton where she had been a patient for nine days.
She was born on Aug. 4, 1922, in Middletown, Ohio, and had lived here all of her life. She retired as a cafeteria worker from the Middletown City Schools after 25 years of service. Mrs. South had also worked in the deli department at Hills Department Store and Ames Department Store. She attended St. Paul's United Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons, John David South, and his wife, Kathleen, of Centerville, and Donald Lee South, and his wife, Gail, of Middletown; a daughter, Patty Ann Bowman of Carlisle; six grandchildren, John South Jr., Leah South, Jeremy Bowman, and Crystal, Michael and Alicia South; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Velma Brelsford, and her husband, Jack, of Middletown; a brother, William H. Rupp, and his wife, Marjorie, of Franklin; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Annie Spears
Mrs. Annie Spears, 87, of 706 11th Ave., departed this life on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at her residence.
She was born on May 28, 1913, to Lucy and William Hillard in Oak Grove, Fla. She united in Holy Matrimony to the late Spencer Spears in 1946. Mrs. Spears was a faithful member of United Missionary Baptist Church. She was a licensed beautician.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lucy and William Hillard; her husband, Spencer; and a daughter, Eva Dixon.
She is survived by one daughter, Alvie (Horace) Miller; six grandchildren, Myron (Diane) Dixon of New Jersey, Theda Dixon of California, Harweda Burns of Trotwood, Ohio, Derrick Miller of Cincinnati, and Anson Dixon and Timothy Miller of Middletown; 10 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at noon Friday, Jan. 19, at United Missionary Baptist Church, 18th Ave. and Minnesota Street, with the Rev. Gregory Tyus officiating. Entombment will be at Woodside Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Friday until time of service at the church.

Matt H. Spencer
MONROE -- Matt H. Spencer, 89, of Monroe, died Sunday morning, Jan. 14, 2001, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law.
He was born Sept. 16, 1911, in Key, Ky., the son of Ellsbury Spencer and Helen (Eversole) Spencer.
Mr. Spencer worked 26 years for Frigidaire, retiring in 1973. He was a World War II veteran and a member of Baptist Tabernacle in Carlisle, where he serves as a deacon and missions director for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Marie (Weaver) Spencer in 1993; his parents; and brothers and sisters, Clayton, Hattie, Rudy, Ealy, Porter, Polly and Katherine.
ARRANGEMENTS: Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16 at Newnam Funeral Home, Beattyville, Ky. Lloyd Spicer
Lloyd Spicer, 79, of 1506 Forest Ave., died Tuesday morning, Jan. 9. 2001, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
He was born in Breathitt County, Ky., on Nov. 14, 1921, a son of James and Lizzie (Bellamy) Spicer and lived most of his life in this area. He was retired from Armco Steel Co., East Processing.
He is survived by a son, Mike Spicer (wife Teresa) of Middletown; two grandsons, Michael Wayne Spicer and Justin Spicer; three sisters, Marie Bates, Lois Jean Vincent and Shirley Strong; and seven brothers, Hargis, Lawrence, Roy, Charlie, Willie, Hobart and Earl.
His wife, Juanita, preceded him in death in May of last year. He was also preceded in death by his parents; by a sister, Pearlie Clemons; and a brother, Robert.
Delora E. Sullivan
Delora E. Sullivan, 70, of Miamisburg, Ohio, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, in Houston, Texas.
She was born in Middletown, Ohio, on Dec. 20, 1930, and lived in this area most of her life. Delora was formerly employed at the Texas Heart Institute before retiring in 1993. She was affiliated with Grace Baptist Church and the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary of Middletown.
She was preceded in death by her parents and numerous brothers and sisters.
She leaves two daughters, Shirley Croley of Miamisburg and Sue Smith of Houston, Texas; two sons, Michael and Thomas Sullivan, both of Houston; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Walter Doyle of Monroe, Ohio.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home, with the Rev. Howard Sears officiating. Interment will be at Miami Valley Memory Gardens in Centerville, Ohio. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
