Lindsey Rae Taylor
Lindsey Rae "Bubbles" Taylor, 10-week old infant daughter of Larry James Taylor and Anita Rose McDonald of Middletown, went to be in the arms of Jesus Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at her residence. She was born on Nov. 3, 2000, in Middletown, Ohio. Besides her parents, she is also survived by a sister, Jennifer Marie McDonald, at home; two stepsisters, Sarah Garner of Middletown and Jessica Helton of West Chester; paternal grandparents Ronald and Judy Gross of Germantown and Larry Taylor of Middletown; maternal grandparents Jim and Janet McDonald of Lynchburg, Ohio; paternal great-great-grandparents Stella Taylor of Middletown and Jerry and Flora Long of Gratis; and many aunts, uncles cousins and friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kenneth Angel officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery in Middletown.

Celeta R. Tillery
Mrs. Celeta (Smith) Tillery, 58, formerly of Middletown, Ohio, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, in Prince George County, Md. She was born in Middletown, Ohio, on March 22, 1944, to Monroe and Nina Stallworth Smith. Mrs. Tillery worked for the federal government for more than 35 years. She is survived by two devoted daughters, Lorretta Tillery and Angelita Tillery, both of Maryland. Two granddaughters Celeta and Jennifer Tillery; eight sisters, Delilah Whiteside of Cincinnati, Dorothy (Mike) Smith of Reidsville, N.C., Judith Hughes of Middletown, Debbie Smith of Cincinnati, Donna (Percy) Chapman of Middletown, Estella (Richard) Patterson of Omaha, Neb., Vicki (Best) Stewart of Wilson, N.C., and Setphanie Smith of Largo, Md.; three brothers, Nelson (Pond) Smith of Vacaville, Calif., James (Delores) Smith of Cincinnati and Guno Smith of Oakland, Calif.; a devoted friend, Winifred Abrams of Maryland and Delores Rolark of Middletown; and a host of other relatives and friends. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Smith, and a sister, Faye Smith, preceded her in death.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be Friday at Bethel AME Church at 11 a.m., with the Revs. Kevin Parks and Donald H. Jordan Sr. officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. Friday until time of services. Arrangements are by Hall-Jordan Memorial Chapel.

Ethel W. Truesdell
Born April 3, 1911, in Flat Gap (Ezel) Kentucky, she was the daughter of Monroe and Nannie Bartley Walton. She resided in the Middletown area since the early 1930s. She was formerly employed by P. Lorillard Co., The Central Store and Coolidge Corp. in Middletown. She loved her family and working in her flowers at home. Ethel is survived by her son, Jerry William and his wife, Jan, of Franklin; a granddaughter, Cherie Lynn Truesdell of Loveland; a grandson, Charles William Truesdell of Franklin; and a sister-in-law, Lorene Walton of Springboro. She is also survived by her good longtime friends, Nora Deaton of Middletown and Ruby Hill of Silver Springs, Md. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Arnold Truesdell in 1990; her parents; a sister, Gladys Walton; and three brothers, Roy, Claude and Chalmer Walton.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17 at Eaton-Anderson-Unglesby Funeral Home, 1357 E. Second St., Franklin, with the Rev. Keith Hazelwood officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodside Cemetery.

Rev. Willie Turner
SPRINGBORO -- The Rev. Willie Turner, 85, of 1075 W. Ohio 73, passed away at his residence Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001. He was born on Nov. 9, 1915, in Altro, Ky., the son of Edward and Jenny Turner. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Rev. Turner was a devoted minister, serving and helping people in the Commonwealth of Kentucky for more than 35 years and in Franklin for 10 years. He was an avid fan of the University of Kentucky and Cincinnati Reds. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Raleigh Turner in 1970, and a son, Joe E. Turner. He is survived by his sons, Cleveland Turner of Darien, Ill., Larry G. Turner of Springboro, and Garry Turner of Miamisburg, a daughter, Dorothy Turner of Springboro,; his brothers, Vincent Turner of New Lebanon and Roy Turner of Altro, Ky.; a grandson, Gregory A. Turner; a sister, Alice of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.s
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at the Anderson Funeral Home, 40 N. Main St., Springboro, with the Rev. Dale Bowling officiating. Edith Wright
Mrs. Edith Wright, 91, of Middletown, passed away on Monday, Jan. 8, 2001. She was born in Boyne City, Mich., on April 18, 1909, and had lived here for 70 years. Mrs. Wright was a homemaker. She was very active in Western Hills Baptist Church in West Alexandria and belonged to the Middletown Senior Citizens. She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Wright in 1965; her parents, Thomas and Eliza Burns; and three brothers and four sisters. She leaves a son, Rick Wright of Middletown; two grandsons, John and Steven Wright of Middletown; two great-grandchildren, Courtney and Shawn Wright of Middletown; a sister, Clara Davis of Boyne City, Mich.; and a brother, Bill Burns of Boyne City.

Lloyd W. Bowman
CARLISLE -- Lloyd Wayne Bowman, 52, of Carlisle, Ohio, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Miami Valley Hospital. He was born on Nov. 16, 1948, in Clay City, Ky., and served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. Mr. Bowman was a steel worker at Armco/AK Steel Co. where he had worked for 29 years before retiring earlier this year. Among his survivors are his wife of 32 years, Patty; a son, Jeremy Bowman of Carlisle; five sisters, Edna Repyneck of Seven Mile, Rosa Smith (Kenny) of Middletown, Rita Ratliff (Ray) of Port Richey, Fla., and Sharon Cate (Dave) and Stephanie Thompson (Morris), both of Middletown; three brothers, Buford Bowman (Deana), David Bowman and Bill Bowman (Dawn), all of Middletown; his parents, Cornelius "Bo" and Eureka "Peg" Bowman; his mother-in-law, Ginny South; brothers-in-law, John South and Spank South; and also survived by many nieces and nephews and lots of family and friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8, at Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home, 1500 Manchester Ave., Middletown, with Pastor John A. Cooper officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mason Eric Breuer
Mason Eric Breuer, 19, grandson of Dr. Merle Gibson of Vandalia and Elizabeth Gibson of Middletown, passed away at Duke University Hospital in Durham, N.C., on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, after a long and courageous fight with cystic fibrosis. Mr. Breuer was one of three triplet sons of Matthew Breuer and Deborah Gibson-Breuer, both originally of Vandalia. Mr. Breuer is survived by his two brothers, Micah Joseph and Martin Andrew; and his parents, Matthew and Deborah Gibson-Breuer, all of Durham, N.C. He is also survived by all four grandparents, an aunt, three uncles and numerous cousins. A great inspiration to his mother and father as well as his entire family, Mason will be missed by many friends and family in Ohio and North Carolina alike.
ARRANGEMENTS: A private memorial service was conducted at St. Stephen's Church in Durham where Mason will be interred with his family.

Susie "Sue" Brown
Susie "Sue" Brown, 89, of Middletown, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born in Menifee County, Ky., on Oct. 13, 1911. She lived 35 years in Middletown and was a homemaker. Mrs. Brown was a member of the Grand Avenue Church of God and enjoyed cooking and sewing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Brown, in 1966; her parents, Irvin and Mary Whitt; brothers, William Whitt, Estel Whitt, Ellis Whitt and Edison Whitt, and sisters, Ida Hall and Vina Bowers. She is survived by sisters, Stella Moore of Middletown and Daisy Dalton of West Field, N.Y.; a stepson, Edward Brown, and nephews, Ova Hall of West Carrollton, Donald Moore of Carlisle and Daniel Moore of Middletown.
ARRANGEMENTS: Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial is at Woodside Cemetery. Arrangements are by Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home.

Lacy M. Clayton
Mr. Lacy M. Clayton, 78, of Middletown, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, after a lengthy illness. He was born Aug. 23, 1922, in Roxboro, N.C., the son of John W. and Annie Mae (Oakley) Clayton. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946. He lived in Kentucky for 19 years, where he enjoyed farming and retired from Hobart Manufacturing in Mount Sterling in 1987. He lived in the Middletown area for a total of 30 years. Mr. Clayton was born again and baptized in July 1952 at the Elk Creek Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Annie Mae (Oakley) Clayton, and a brother, Philip Clayton.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Dr. Howard Sears officiating. Interment will be at Germantown Cemetery.

Billie S. Cox
SPRINGBORO -- Billie S. Cox, 80, of Springboro, passed away Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Hospice of Dayton after a valiant fight with cancer. Billie was born in Dryden, Va., on Aug. 8, 1920, to the late Robert J. and Rebecca J. (Olinger) Cox. He was a World War II Army veteran and retired from Frigidaire in 1982 after 35 1/2 years of service. Mr. Cox served on the Springboro City Council from 1991 to 1994. He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters. Bill will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Springboro Christian Church, 720 S. Main St., Springboro, with the Rev. Delbert Dawes officiating.

Larry B. Doud
Larry B. Doud, 55, of Middletown, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Middletown Regional Hospital. Larry was a graduate of Lemon-Monroe High School and received his bachelor in fine arts from Miami University in 1975. He began working at the Middletown Fine Arts Center in 1975 as an instructor. Larry was truly one of the builders of Middletown Fine Arts Center. He launched a number of student art careers while teaching oils and pastels during the 1975-1985 tenure at the center. During the last four of those years, he combined teaching with being center director. He had 75 students, in addition to his managerial duties, when he resigned to go into the real estate business. He joined Coldwell Banker-Oyer in 1986 as a real estate agent and remained with them until 1999. Larry had been a member of the Middletown Fine Arts Board, Middletown Athletic Boosters, served on the board for the Smmer Youth Theater, Middletown Boosters Club, worked at the All-American Weekend, board member of Middletown High School Musical Arts, and did scenic design for several of the High Fever Follies. He was a member of the Church of the Ascension. He served four years in the Air Force, 13 months of which was in Vietnam. In the fall of 2000, when Larry resigned from the Middletown Fine Arts Board due to illness, he was given the Gardener Award. Mr. Doud is survived by his wife, Sandra K. Doud of Middletown; two sons, Jared M. Doud of Burbank, Calif., and Adam D. Doud of Middletown; and one brother, Thomas L. (Lynda) Doud of Carlisle.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation is this evening, Jan. 9, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the funeral home, with the Rev Clyde Martin officiating. American Legion Post 218 Honor Guard also will conduct military services. Edward C. Haberny
Edward C. Haberny, 76, of Middletown, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Middletown Regional Hospital. A native of Chicago, Ill., he was born on Aug. 15, 1924, and lived here most of his life. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Haberny was a machinist at Aeronca where he worked for 17 years before retiring in 1986. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, in 1991. Survivors include a daughter, Delores Mary Haberny of Williamsburg, Ohio; sons, Edward J. and Kevin M. Haberny, both of Middletown, John E. Haberny of Camden and Thomas A. Haberny of Ottway, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services are set for 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home, with Deacon Tom Coyle officiating. Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Bertha Hamilton
Bertha Hamilton, 57, passed away at her residence, 1387 Symmes Road, Apt. B, Fairfield, on Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at 6:20 a.m. She was born in Manchester, Ky., on Sept. 3, 1943, the daughter of Rufus and Dorothy (Wagers) Collins. She was employed as a factory worker for Foxtail Foods for the past year. She attended the First Baptist Church. In 1958, in Newport, Ky., she married William Carl Hamilton. She is survived by her husband, William Carl Hamilton of Fairfield; five sons, Michael (Lorena) Hamilton, Matt Hamilton and Jimmy (Angela) Hamilton, all of Hamilton, Ohio, Carl (Bonita) Hamilton of Preble County and Billy Hamilton of Middletown; two daughters, Earlene (Dave) Shepherd of Hamilton and Charlene (James) Fletcher of Middletown; her mother, Dorothy Collins of Hamilton; three brothers, Harmon "Pete" (Flo) Collins of Lauren, Ind., and Leon (Jamie) Collins and Glenn Collins, both of Hamilton; one sister, Arcie (Alfonse) Smith of Trenton; 28 grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her father, and one sister, Addie Smith.

Robert K. Harry
Robert K. Harry, 70, of 8382 Towson Blvd., Miamisburg, passed away Tuesday morning at his residence. He was born in Bluefield, W. Va., on May 1, 1930, a son of John and Marjorie Harry, and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired from the Rish Equipment Co. in 1978, then began his own business, Harry Equipment Co. Mr. Harry was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, the Order of the Moose and the Ohio Contractors Association. He belonged to the Centerville United Methodist Church. He is survived by a daughter, Laura S. Harry of Bellevue, Ky.; his former wife, Marianne Harper of Springdale, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Debbie Pendleton, and two stepsons, Chuck Harper and Steve Harper; grandchildren Ashley Brown, Nicki Brown and Nathaniel Harper; and two brothers, John J. Harry of Bluefield, W. Va., and James Harry of Champaign, Ill.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home in Middletown, with Pastor Raymond Merz officiating. Easter L. Hodge
Mrs. Easter Lillie Hodge, 83, of Lebanon Country Manor, formerly of Springboro, Ohio, passed away Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Levi Hodge on Oct. 3, 1996.
ARRANGEMENTS: Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today, Jan. 10, at Woodside Cemetery in Middletown, with the Rev. Don McMurray officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are in care of the Gebhart-Schmidt-Parramore Funeral Home in Miamisburg.

John H. Hollon Jr.
John H. Hollon Jr., 45, of Middletown, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, in Versailles, Ind. He was an iron worker and construction worker most of his life. John is survived by his mother, Daisy Hollon of Middletown; his father, John, of Dayton, Ohio; two daughters, Christina Fields and Elizabeth McIntosh, both of Middletown; two sons, Ian and Jason (Candy) Hollon of Middletown; a granddaughter, Taylor McIntosh of Middletown; grandson Jason Hollon Jr.; three sisters, Pam (DeWayne) Gray, Tabitha (Bill) Lange of Middletown, and Marcha from Dayton, Ohio; three brothers, Anthony, Robert and Jeffery (Dawn) Hollon, all of Middletown; special uncle and aunt, Billy and Helen Martin of Middletown; a host of uncles, aunts and cousins; six nephews and nine nieces; a great-nephew; and many friends who will miss him dearly. Charlotte C. Kirby
Mrs. Charlotte C. Kirby, 93, of Monroe, Ohio, passed away Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Mount Pleasant Retirement Village. She was born in Minneapolis, Minn., on May 14, 1907, to Mr. and Mrs. William Cowles. She is survived by her husband, Roy G. Kirby of Monroe; a son, John (Barbara) Kirby of Tulsa, Okla.; a daughter, Sydney (Peter) St. Clair of Cincinnati; seven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Mrs. Kirby was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, John Madden.

Lillian M. Leap
Lillian Mae (Saunders) Leap, 91, of Middletown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001. She will be remembered as a loving soul with a warm, caring heart who put others' needs before her own. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all those she touched with her gentle kindness and wonderful sense of humor. Lillian is survived by her two daughters, Dorothy McWhorter of Middletown and Marilyn Schwabenton of Greensboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Danny McWhorter, Claudie Brewer, Elizabeth Gunning and Eric Canada; five great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Tom Saunders. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Leap, in 1998, and her parents.

Laurence W. Lee
HAMILTON -- Laurence W. Lee, 68, of Dyersburg, Tenn., formerly of the Hamilton area, died suddenly at home on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001. He was born on Feb. 23, 1932, in Preble County, the son of the late Webb and Dorothy (Pottenger) Lee. He worked for General Motors in Fairfield, Ohio, and Kalamazoo, Mich., for more than 35 years, retiring in 1994. Laurence was employed as a security guard at the Dyersburg Methodist Hospital since his retirement. He was a U.S. veteran of the Korean War. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Mitzie (Pogue) Lee; three sons, Bruce Lee, and his wife, Teddie, of Michigan, John Lee, and his wife, Sherry of Hamilton, and Tom Newton, and his wife, Beverly, of Hamilton; two daughters, Robin Sizemore, and her husband, Tom, of Seven Mile, and Shannon Morphis, and her husband, Jason, of Tennessee; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Vera Boice of Seven Mile; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His parents, Webb and Dorothy Lee, and one brother, Robert Lee, preceded Laurence in death.

Myrtle L. Mays
Mrs. Myrtle Lee Mays, 69, of Middletown, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Hickory Creek Nursing Center. Mrs. Mays was born in Paintsville, Ky., on July 7, 1931, and had worked as an adult care provider for 10 years. She was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Davis. Among her survivors is her husband of 43 years, James D. Mayes; a son, Roger Davis; a grandson, Mark Anthony Davis; three sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.

David McKeever
David McKeever, 90, of Middletown, passed on to be with his Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001. He was born on Feb. 14, 1910, in a log house near Sinking Springs, Ohio. He grew up on a farm, attended a one-room school house and graduated from high school in 1929. He attended Wilmington College where he was a member of the class of 1933. David worked for Armco Steel Co. for eight years. Then, in 1942, he accepted Dr. David Gerber's offer to manage and operate the doctor's farm. For 30 years, David lived the farm life he loved so much. He went to work for the Middletown School System for nine years. After retirement, he and his wife, Jessie, enjoyed extensive traveling. Mr. McKeever was a member of the Grace Baptist Church of Middletown. He is survived by his loving wife, Jessie, with whom he celebrated his silver wedding anniversary last year. In addition, last February, many family and friends gathered from Ohio, Indiana, Minnesota and California to share in celebrating David's ninetieth birthday. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Sharon McKeever; a stepson, Dr. Ronald (Gretchen) Trosper; stepdaughter Susan (Robert) Horbaly; grandchildren Christopher McKeever, Kim Nordquest, Robert and Eric Horbaly, Ingrin and Jenny Trosper and Erin (Mark) Gonzales; great-grandchildren Sebastian Nordquest and Maia and Hannah Kenny; a sister-in-law, Phyllis (Paul) Florence; and several brothers-in-law and nieces. David was preceded in death by two infants; his first wife, Clara; and his adult son, William "Bill" McKeever.

Ernest Lee McQueen
Ernest Lee McQueen, 47, of Trenton, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at the Middletown Regional Hospital emergency room. He was born March 14, 1953, in Hamilton, the son of Albert McQueen and Gracie (Proffitt) McQueen. Mr. McQueen worked as a welder until 1986. He was a member of the Trenton Fishermen's Club and attended the Little Family Baptist Church in Jacksonburg. He is survived by: his wife of 30 years, Leanna P. (Holbrook) McQueen; two sons, Richard (Susan) McQueen of Middletown and Steven McQueen of Trenton; a daughter, Deanna (Jonathan) Haber of Trenton; four grandchildren, Brittany and Whittney McQueen of Middletown and Devin and Austin Haber of Trenton; three brothers, Walter (Janie) McQueen of Arkansas, Jeffery (Rachel) McQueen of Trenton, Jimmy (Jennifer) McQueen of Hamilton; two sisters, Vickie McQueen of Trenton and Bonnie Jean Heinric of Hamilton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ella Mae Kellum.

Ada Louella Pence
FRANKLIN -- Mrs. Ada Louella (Barcalow) Pence, 90, formerly of 701 Millard Drive, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Heartland of Oakridge. She was born in Germantown, Ohio, on Oct. 13, 1910, the daughter of Everet E. and Hazel (Fitzgerald) Barcalow. Mrs. Pence was a charter member of the Middie Band Parents Association. Preceding her in death were her husband, Russell H. Pence in 1989; two brothers, Gerald and Jack Barcalow; and a sister, Helen "Bili" Moats. Surviving are a son, Russell E. Pence, and his wife, Janet, of Middletown; a daughter, Nancy J. Hathaway, and her husband, Carl, of Franklin; a sister, Peggy Laymon of Cleveland; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Bonnie Lucinda Phillips, 55, of Fairborn, Ohio, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001. She was born in Gratis, Ohio, on Aug. 3, 1945. Mrs. Phillips was employed for five years as an licensed practical nurse (LPN) in the maternal child heath care field. She was preceded in death by her father, Harlan Thomas. Survivors include a son, Greg (Salena) Phillips of Middletown; grandchildren Shawn Phillips and Lauren Phillips, both of Middletown; her mother, Nell Thomas of Middletown; a brother, Guy Thomas of Middletown; and her ex-husband, Roger Phillips of Middletown.

FRANKLIN -- Michael B. Raines, 39, of Franklin, Ohio, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Miami Valley Hospital. He was born in Tampa, Fla., on Oct. 17, 1961, but lived in this area most of his life. Among his survivors are his parents, James M. and Janet L. Raines of Middletown; three brothers, James Milton Raines of Plant City, Fla., Dwayne Edward Raines of Middletown and Timothy Ritter of Franklin; and a nephew, James Edward Raines of Middletown.

Della M. Riggs
Mrs. Della M. Riggs, 78, of Middletown, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Garden Manor. She was born July 25, 1922, in Chavies, Ky., the daughter of the late Marion and Elizabeth Fugate. She was a homemaker and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She and her husband, Robert L. Riggs, enjoyed 53 years of marriage. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Willie Fugate, Charles Fugate and Arnold Fugate, and her sisters, Lona (Fugate) Davidson and Polly (Fugate) Riggs. She will be sadly missed by her beloved husband, Robert L. Riggs; her cherished daughter, Jo Ann Riggs; two much loved grandchildren, Shane (Tuesday) Nisewonder and Brandi (Jason) Fry; her precious great-granddaughter, Rylee; her brother, Dan W. (Estelle) Fugate and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Herschel E. Robinson
Herschel E. Robinson, 87, of Monroe, Ohio, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Mount Pleasant Retirement Home. Born in Hughes Station, Liberty Township, Ohio, on Dec. 20, 1913, he was the son of Stanley and Carrie (Dudley) Robinson. In 1937, he married Arline Lois Lotz and she preceded him in death in 1989. In 1992, Herschel married Mildred Hinkle and she preceded him on July 16, 1994. On Nov. 9, 1995, he married Evelyn B. Wear. For 42 1/2 years Mr. Robinson was a plant superintendent for Stearns and Foster Co., retiring in 1978. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 678 of Mason, Ohio, and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. Mr. Robinson is survived by his wife, Evelyn B. Robinson; his sons, Merle Scott Robinson, and his wife, Kay, of Columbus, Ohio, and Maxwell N. Wear, and his wife, Janet, of Fairfield, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Virgil Robinson of Tucson, Ariz., and Donald Robinson of Gallipolis, Ohio; two sisters, Ada Schutte of Hamilton, Ohio, and Glendora Bicknell of Hughes Station, Ohio. His parents, a son, Barry Robinson, and two sisters, Kathleen Robinson and Geneva Barnes, also preceded him in death.

Mrs. Martha E. Schneider, 87, of Middletown, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Middletown Regional Hospital. A Middletown native, she was born on Dec. 10, 1913, to James and Carrie (Zimmerman) Galeese. Mrs. Schneider was a member of Holy Trinity Church of Holy Family Parish. She was secretary to Robert B. Gardener at Diamond International for 29 years. Martha was an avid bridge player. Surviving are two sons, Larry (Margy) Schneider and Don (Barbara) Schneider; a brother, Paul D. Galeese; five grandchildren, Doug, Jeff, Beth, Christopher and Andrew Schneider; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur J. Schneider; her parents; and a brother, Joseph Galeese.

TRENTON -- Mrs. Hazel "Grannee" Sears, 83, of Trenton, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born in Middletown, Ohio, on Sept. 17, 1917, and was a lifelong area resident. Mrs. Sears was deli manager at McGee's Supermarket for many years. She was leader of TOPS #549 for 33 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmonte "Del" Sears in 1985; her parents, Charles E. Soule Sr. and Anna (Helton) Soule; and two sisters, Jean Reis and Helen Soule. She leaves a son, Charles "Bud" Sears (Juanita) of Middletown; a daughter, Christine "Pinky" Osborne of Middletown; nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Christine Semmler (Charles) of Monroe and Joyce Kramer of Middletown; two brothers, Malcolm Soule (Joyce) and Charles Soule Jr., both of Middletown; and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by many very close friends.

Elizabeth A. Slezak
Elizabeth A. "Bette" (Toth) Slezak, 75, of Middletown, died Tuesday, Jan 2, 2001, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born in Middletown, Ohio, on March 2, 1925, the daughter of Stephen and Anna Belovics Toth, originally from Austria--Hungary. Mrs. Slezak was a member of Holy Family Parish, St. John's Church, her entire life. She was a graduate of the Immaculate Conception Academy in Oldenburg, Ind., and the Middletown Business School. On Oct. 25, 1947, she married Fred S. Slezak. They were married for more than 35 years when he preceded her in death on April 8, 1983. Mrs. Slezak is survived by her son, Fred S. Slezak Jr., and his wife, Nancy, of Springboro, Ohio; her daughter, Elizabeth Anne "Betsy" Brune, and her husband, Mark, of Middletown; two grandchildren, Stephen and Jennifer Slezak; and three sisters, Mary Toth and Wilma Bukosky, both of Middletown, and Frances Molnar of Dayton. She was also preceded in death by five infant daughters and one infant son; her parents, Stephen and Anna Toth; a brother, Steven Toth; and two sisters, Julia Heggi and Ann Nicely.

Ilene V. Southward
Mrs. Ilene V. Southward, 76, of Middletown, Ohio, passed away at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at the Altera Assisted Living center where she had been residing for 1½ years. She was born on June 4, 1924, in Lancaster, Ohio, and had resided in the Middletown area for many years. She was employed at one time as a clerk at the Gallagher Pharmacy in both Middletown and Circleville, Ohio. Mrs. Southward and her husband farmed in the West Middletown area for many years. She attended Grace Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Linda (Eldridge) Jarrell; and her husband, Richard Everett Southward in 1980. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Mary Cox of Pennsylvania; a brother-in-law, Harry Weidle of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews, two of whom live locally, Kevin Gross and Melissa Johnson, both of Middletown.

SPRINGBORO -- Phyllis Geraldine Vinson, 60, passed away from this life and went to live with Jesus on Friday, Jan. 5, 2001. She was born in Fleming, Ky., on Oct. 25, 1940, and was raised in Chopping Branch, McRoberts, Ky. She has left behind her husband, Paul L. Vinson of Springboro; her sons, Arthur W. Vinson of Norwood and James P. Vinson of Miamisburg; daughters, Brenda Vinson of Norwood and Dawn Vinson of Miamisburg; grandson, Jonathan W. Vinson, and her Heart Adopted children, Judy A. and Joshua D. Shelton of Batavia and Tim Smith of Franklin; a sister, Lillian Dorigan of Virginia; six brothers, Henry Brown of Nicholasville, Ky., Jack Brown of Lexington, Ky., Bill Brown of St. Cloud, Fla., Tom Gardner of Okla., Jesse Gardner of Texas and Curtis Gardner of Georgia; many nieces, nephews and cousins and many friends God blessed her with. Preceding her in death were her sisters, Vivian Taplin, Beatrice Winslow and Margaret Trevathon and two brothers, Bill and Mac Gardner of Virginia. She was a member of the Franklin Freewill Baptist Church in Franklin and was also a member of the Springboro Mothers Club for 15 years.

Virgil Wright
Virgil Wright, 85, a longtime Warren County resident, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born in Morgan County, Ky., on Feb. 14, 1915, to John L. and Rausie (Mullins) Wright and was a graduate of Morgan County High School. Mr. Wright retired from General Electric in 1980 after more than 25 years of service as a millwright. He was a very active member of the Marantha Baptist Church in Mason, a lifelong member of the Conservation Association and a member of the Warren County Senior Citizens. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, singing and playing his harmonica. His father, John L. Wright, his mother and stepfather, Rausie and George Johnson, and one grandson, John Wright, all preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Wilma (Fugett) Wright; a son and daughter-in-law, William Joseph and Margie Wright of Hebron, Ind.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Anita and Jim Sibcy of Lebanon, Pauline and William J. Allen of Hamilton, Joyce and Floyd Collins of Loveland and Gerry and Larry Perkins of Kings Mills; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 3, and the funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4, at Oswald-Hoskins Funeral Home in Lebanon. Pastor Fred Howard and Dr. Guy Culberson will officiate. Interment will follow in Lebanon Cemetery.
