Herbert Chester Bates
TRENTON - Herbert Chester Bates, 57, of Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Trenton, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at his residence. Mr. Bates was born Sept. 30, 1943 in Connersville, Ind., the son of Chester and Mildred (Lykins) Bates. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and was an agent for Western Southern Insurance Co. for 25 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, James Edward Bates. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Mary Ellis Bates of Lakeland, Fla.; two daughters, Beth and husband Paul Bennett of Trenton and Becky and husband John LeForce of Franklin; stepchildren, Victoria Lamberson of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Richard Lange and Michelle Oakley, both of Ormond Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Donna "Gail" Bowman of Dalton, Ga., and Bonnie Collins of Salem, Ind.; five grandchildren, Brandi and Justin Bennett, Tyler Stockslager, Nicholas LeForce, and Kelly Jacob LeForce; and seven grandchildren in Florida.
ARRANGEMENTS: Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 21, at the Eaton-Anderson & Unglesby Funeral Home, 1357 E. 2nd St., Franklin, with the Rev. Lester Johnson Jr. officiating and burial in Woodhill Cemetery, Franklin. Visitation will be on Monday from noon until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Thelma E. Bibbs
Thelma Eloise Bibbs was born on May 16, 1928, to William Lyle and Callie Ruth Tate in Winder, Ga. She departed this life on Saturday, May 19, 2001. On Feb. 20, 1953, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Rodman Bibbs in Chicago, Ill. They eventually moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, and she united with the First Baptist Church of Kennedy Heights where she served faithfully until her demise. She retired from McAlpins after many years of service and was employed by Chick-Filet prior to her death. Mrs. Bibbs was also a member of Electa Chapter No. 6 of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodman; her parents; a daughter, Donna Wilson; and a son, Emmanuel. Thelma leaves many memories to be cherished by her son, Apostle James Anthony Lyle (Lenita) of Middletown, Ohio; grandchildren Nicolle Thompson (Elder Jeremy) of Phoenix, Ariz., Shelley Kawalsingh (Pastor Lyode) of Monroe, James Lyle II (Doris) of Cincinnati, Jeremy Lyle (Ronette) of Middletown, and Kahonda Dena' and Timothy, all of Dayton, Ohio; 11 great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Lyle of Dayton; a special cousin, Loree Pilgrim of Mount Healthy; and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the Thompson, Hall & Jordan Silverton Funeral Home, 6943 Montgomery Road, Silverton, where services will begin at 10 a.m.

Dorothy M. Broadnax
Mrs. Dorothy M. Broadnax, 78, of Anderson, Ind., formerly of Middletown, died Monday, May 14, 2001, at her home after an extended illness. Mrs. Broadnax was born in Middletown and moved to Anderson where she lived for over 50 years. She graduated from Middletown High School and also attended the Business College and Honey's Cosmetology School in Dayton. She was employed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base as an executive secretary and also worked at Fisher Guide Lamp in production where she retired with 15 years of service in 1983. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Anderson, the Cherie-Arnie Club, Young Women's Missionary group, Church Women United of Madison County, serving as treasurer, the W.W. Club, Greater Center Advisory Board (secretary-treasurer), Second Baptist Missionary, and the Anderson Community Pantry. She is survived by five sons, John M. Broadnax of Arlington, Texas, Robert Dallas Broadnax of Anderson, James Phillip Broadnax (wife Janie) of Dallas, Kelvin Broadnax of Anderson and Terrance L. Broadnax (wife Stephanie) of Fisher, Ind.; a daughter, Joi T. Broadnax of Houston; four brothers, Dallas Jackson (wife Shelia) of Columbus, William Jackson (wife Carrie) of Columbus, Charlie Jackson (wife Doris) of Middletown, and Harold Jackson (wife Phobe) of Middletown; a sister-in-law, Verda Cochran of Anderson; five grandchildren, Scott D. Broadnax, John P. Broadnax, Jeremy P. Broadnax, Tobias S. Broadnax, and Haley N. Broadnax; a great-grandchild, Scott Broadnax Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives and many special friends. Mrs. Broadnax was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Broadnax, her parents, Dallas and Mary Jackson, and a brother, Donald Jackson.

Carrie Ann Calhoun
Mrs. Carrie Ann Calhoun, 71, of Middletown, died Tuesday at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born Jan. 5, 1930, in Boyd County, Ky., and had lived here for 51 years. She worked as an assembler at the Miami Carey Corp. plant for over 15 years and was a member of the Yankee Road First Church of God. Mrs. Calhoun was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Drusy Stewart, a brother, Edward Stewart, and by three sisters, Ilene Jobe, Willabell Childers and Maxine White. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Vernon Calhoun; a son, the Rev. Michael Calhoun and wife, Sandra of Troy, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Brenda Blevins of Sandusky, Ohio; four sisters, Clara Woods of Middletown, Florence (John) Dickson of Middletown, Bert (Hershel) Arrowood of Middletown, and Ethel Mosely of Catlettsburg, Ky.; two brothers, Ben Stewart of Pennsylvania and Dwayne Stewart of Kentucky; two grandchildren, Stephanie Calhoun and Jared Calhoun; two step-grandchildren, Jerri Stacy and Allen Stacy; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Alta M. Deem
Mrs. Alta Marie Deem, 84, of Middletown, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at her home. She was born Feb. 22, 1917, in Jackson, Ky., the daughter of the late Charles and Media Walters. She has been a resident of Middletown for 59 years and was a lifetime member of the Towne Boulevard Church of God, formerly the Grand Avenue Church of God, where she was a missionary, a Sunday School teacher and faithfully served the church in many additional ways over the years. Alta was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Edgar Harris "Bub" Deem; one son, Darrell Deem; one brother, Albert Walters; three sisters, Irene Walters, Virginia Siebien and Mary Jane Amburgey; two daughters-in-law, Jackie Deem and Chrissy Mooney; and one son-in-law, Jack Arrowood. She is survived by three daughters, Vivian Arrowood of Middletown, Wilma J. Brewer of Monroe and Lois A. Deem of Middletown; four sons, Robert "Kelly" Deem (Laura) of Brookville, Ind., James Albert "Jabo" Deem (Nancy) of Germantown, Donald R. Deem (Norma) of Carlisle and SPC Jonathan Mooney of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a foster son, Don Brisco of Middletown; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Alma (Ned) Cope of Middletown, Noka (Ralph) McDonald of Middletown and Morene (Winfred) Brewer of Spring City, Tenn., and many other loving family members and friends. She was well known and will always be remembered for her loving and caring ways, along with her great willingness to give her hand to those in need. She will be greatly missed but never out of our hearts.

Jonathan E. Duff
TRENTON -- Jonathan E. Duff, 25, of Trenton, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2001, at 11:09 p.m. at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born April 12, 1976 in Somerset, Ky., and had lived in Ohio most of his life. He was employed as a construction worker by Ball Brothers Construction. He was preceded in death by a brother, Brian Christopher Duff in 1999; maternal grandparents Dale and Carol Schubert; and a niece, Megan Nicely. He is survived by his wife, Tonya (Ackman) Duff; one son, Jonathan D. Duff; two daughters, Brittany and Katelinn Duff; his parents, Steve and Sue Duff of Trenton; brother Stephen D. Duff of Springboro; two sisters, Emily Ackman of Middletown and Jamie Duff of Trenton; paternal grandparents, Hiram and Prudy Duff of Middletown; four nephews Michael Ackman, Dougie Ackman, David Ackman and John Thomas Herald; and two nieces, Jessika Ackman and Mary Ellen Ackman.

Marion G. Emmett
Marion Gilbert Emmett, 37, of Middletown, died here Friday, May 18, 2001. Mr. Emmett was born Sept. 23,1963, in Dayton and had lived here his entire lifetime. He was an honorably discharged Army veteran who served in Grenada and in the Gulf War. He was a SP4 in the Army and was a member of American Legion Post 218. He is survived by his parents, Franklin D. and Virginia L. Emmett of West Middletown; daughters, Connie Charistina Emmett of Mason and Amanda Michelle Emmett also of Mason; a brother, the Rev. Thomas D. and wife Pamela Emmett of Louisville; a sister, Laquita H. Bonasera of Belleview, Mich.; nephews, Samuel Emmett of Louisville, John Burnette of Ann Arbor, Mich., Kenny Burnette of Utah and Marco Bonasera of Belleville, Mich; nieces, Rachael Burnette of Saline, Mich., Carmela Bonasera and Angelina Bonasera, both of Belleville, Mich; and several aunts, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Thomas and Janice Loretta Emmett, and by a brother, Robert Amos Emmett.

Fred Erhardt Jr.
SOMERVILLE - Fred Erhardt Jr., 77, of Somerville, died Thursday evening, May 17, 2001, at McCullough-Hyde Hospital in Oxford. He was born May 7, 1924, to Fred and Henrietta Seller Erhardt in Cincinnati and graduated from Mt. Healthy High School in 1942. Fred was a lifelong dairy farmer and on Feb. 14, 1946, he was married to Hazel Nippert of Mt. Healthy. He was a member of the Collinsville Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Hazel Erhardt of Somerville; one daughter, Beverly Garrett and her husband, Don Garrett of Eaton; one son, Bruce Erhardt of Somerville; and one grandson, Aaron Garrett, and his wife, Trisha Garrett of West Chester. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Virginia Solar, and one brother, David Erhardt.
ARRANGEMENTS: Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. R.C. Nein & Sons-Thompson Funeral Home, Camden, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Michael S. Frisch
Michael S. Frisch, 45, of 238 Bragg Hill Road, Westminster, Mass., formerly of Middletown, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at the Worcester Medical Center after a short illness. He was born Nov. 16, 1955, in Middletown, the son of the late Jack W. and Darlene Hall (Collier) Frisch, and lived here for many years. He graduated from Lemon Monroe High School in 1974. He played football and wrestled with the LMHS teams. He later attended the University of Tennessee. Mr. Frisch was a member of the Forresters, president of the Oakmont Pop Warner Football League and was a member of the Brick Layers Union, Local 6. He owned and operated Leominster Tile and Marble Co. in Leominster. He leaves his wife of 17 years, Pamela (Hawkins) Frisch; a son, Ian M.A. Frisch of Westminster; a daughter, Jillian M. Frisch of Westminster; his grandparents, Vernon and Nellie Collier of Middletown; a brother, Gregory A. Frisch of Middletown; two sisters, Kristy L. Reves and Kelly L. Hall, both of Middletown; and several aunts and uncles and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Randy J. Frisch in September 1995.

Harrison C. Fritts
Harrison C. Fritts, 80, of Olympia, Ky., passed away Saturday, May 19, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lexington, Ky. He was born in Menifee County, Ky., on March 1, 1921, and had lived in this area for most of his life. He was an Army veteran and was formerly employed in construction with W. L. Harper in Cincinnati. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Alice Elisabeth (Hardin) Fritts; his wife, Wilma (Blevins) Fritts; and a son, Randall Fritts. Surviving are sons Lee Fritts of Bryson, N.C., Roger Fritts (Laverne) of Olympia, Ky., and Michael Fritts (Jodie) of Middletown; daughters, Alice Chaney (Rick) of Gratis, Ohio, and Connie Thiess (Emery) of Camden; a daughter-in-law, Janet Fritts of West Alexandria; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a special nephew, Arthur Chandler of Middletown.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home, with the Rev. Doug Bottles officiating. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Gratis.

Joseph E. Gividen
Joseph Emerson Gividen, 67, of Riverdale, Ga., formerly of Middletown, died Sunday, May 20, 2001, at Haven House Hospice in Georgia. He was born in Middletown on Oct. 18, 1933, lived here most of his life but had resided in Riverdale, Ga., for the past four years. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Gividen was employed as a maintenance engineer at Armco, retiring in 1969. He also served as a part-time deputy sheriff in Warren County, Ohio. He was a member of the Fayetteville United Pentecostal Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Alpha (Colliver) Gividen. Survivors include two sons, Ron Gividen of Indian Springs, Ohio, and Rev. N. J. Gividen of Newnan, Ga.; a daughter, Lisa Longworth of Middletown; a sister, Doris Depew of Monroe; 10 grandchildren; and five nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Services are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Truth Tabernacle - UPC, 6879 Hamilton-Middletown Road, (Ohio 4, Middletown). The Rev. Gerald Vittitow will officiate. Interment will be in Mound Cemetery. Visitation is today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Baker-Stevens Funeral Home in Middletown.

Elsie Stamper Henry
Mrs. Elsie Stamper Henry, 91, of Middletown, died Thursday, May 17, 2001, at the Garden Manor Extended Care Center. Born in Menifee County, Ky. Jan. 18, 1910, she was a homemaker and a member of the Towne Boulevard First Church of God, was very active in her church and sang with the Stamper Trio and other gospel groups. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Stamper, June 5, 1969; by her second husband, Eldon C. Henry on Jan. 23, 1997; her grandson, Roger Stamper; great-grandchildren, Justin Stamper and Brian Cook; and by several brother and sisters. She is survived by sons Gerald Stamper (Elizabeth) of Middletown and Harold Stamper (Pauline), also of Middletown; daughters, Ruth Mathis (Carmel) and Junis Stephens (Bud), both of Middletown; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 21, at the Towne Boulevard Church of God with burial at Woodside Cemetery. The visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Baker-Stevens Funeral Home.

Jerry Kramer
Jerry Kramer, 64, died at his residence in Union Township Friday morning, May 18, 2001. Mr. Kramer is a 1954 graduate of Fenwick High School, who served in the U.S. Air Force and graduated from the University of Dayton in 1963. Mr. Kramer was an electrical engineer. He was the vice president of operations for KDI Precision Products in Clermont County, from which he retired in 1997 after 26 years. Mr. Kramer's hobby was collecting and restoring antique clocks. He was also an avid fisherman and liked to hunt. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis G. Kramer Sr. and Zelma J. Wolf Kramer. He is survived by his wife, Sandy Kramer of Union Township; his daughter Becky E. (Virgil) Chapman of Union, Ky.; two granddaughters, Jessica and Courtney Chapman; a brother Jim (Donna) Kramer of Middletown and sister Sheila Lisella of Fairfield.
ARRANGEMENTS: Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Holy Family Parish/Holy Trinity Church. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd.

Beulah C. Lyons
MONROE -- Beulah C. Lyons, 92, died Saturday morning at Mount Pleasant Retirement Village. Mrs. Lyons was a school teacher in the Wolfe County, Ky., school system. She is survived by her son, Harlan (Aleta) Rogers of West Chester; two daughters, Nancy (Joseph) Day of Franklin and Rosemary (Greg) Roberts of Fairfield; a sister, Vergie Henry of Berea, Ky.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Nancy (Brown) Sample; two husbands, James Rogers in 1956 and Alvin Lyons in 1978; her brother, Curtis Sample; and three sisters, Clara Sample, Della Ashby and Ora Eads.

Jean Ann Mayer
Mrs. Jean Ann Mayer, 77, of Middletown, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. She was born July 19, 1923, in Middletown, the daughter of Mary Adeline (Fidanza) Iezzoni and James Frank Iezzoni. She was employed in the medical profession where she worked for several local doctors and nursing homes. More recently she was involved in volunteer work for organizations such as the Cancer Society, International Children Famine Relief and others. She donated much of her time to numerous charities for the impoverished and afflicted. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adrian Mayer, her father, James Frank Iezzoni, and her mother, Mary Adeline Iezzoni. Survivors include a daughter, Linda (Clarence "Buster") Strassburger of Franklin; two sons, Dwayne (Anne) Mayer of Middletown and Doug Mayer, also of Middletown; a brother, Gabriel (Joan) Iezzoni of Cincinnati; two sisters, Terry (George) Strausbaugh of Cincinnati, and Carmella Just of Fairfield; grandchildren, Amber, Ashley and Donald Mayer and grandchild Bryan (Shelley) Titus.

John Miller
John Miller, 83, of Sebring, Fla., formerly of Middletown, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at his home in Sebring. Born in Hazard, Ky., he had lived in Sebring since 1977, moving there from Middletown. He was a coal miner and served as a volunteer for NuHope of Highlands County and was a member of the Ridge Rollaways Square Dance group. Mr. Miller is survived by his wife, Stella Miller; a son, Ronnie Lee Miller of Franklin; two daughters, Candace Maria Day of Sebring and Barbara Ann Barker of Franklin; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Norma 'Elaine' Myers
Mrs. Norma "Elaine" Myers, 75, of Middletown, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at Middletown Regional Hospital. Born Feb. 26, 1926, in Dayton to the late Elder Bert and Bertha Perkins, she was a retired Aeronca Inc. employee who attended Bethlehem Temple Apostolic Church. She was a caring, loving person who thought the world of her family and friends. She was soon to be called "Ah Precious." Mrs. Myers was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Daniel "Buster" H. Myers; four brothers, Jack Lovell, Richard Lovell, Bert Perkins Jr. and Elmer Perkins; and two sisters, Eulalia Bea Dupee and Constance Dews. She leaves behind in loving memory her husband, William Myers Sr.; her stepmother, Evangelist Orine Perkins of New York; three sons, William (Ellen) Myers Jr., Reese Myers, and Johnny Myers, all of Middletown; three daughters, Kathleen Moorer of St. Louis, and Karen (David) Pipkin and Kimberly Myers, both of Middletown; three sisters, Katherine (Levi) Pope of Cincinnati, Gloria (Galveston) Latimore of Middletown and Euniece Perkins of New York; one brother, Paul Perkins of Middletown; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Elsie L. Neumann
Mrs. Elsie L. Neumann, 67, of Middletown, died at her residence Tuesday, May 15, 2001. Mrs. Neumann, who loved gardening and animals, is survived by three sons, Paul (Susan) Neumann of Middletown, Gene Neumann of Tucson, Ariz., and Vincent (Gwen) Neumann of Middletown; one daughter, Susie (Tim) Neumann of Middletown; 11 grandchildren, Althea, Danny, Darin, Devin, Lola, Andrew, Michael, Megan, Tricia, Michael and Mathew Neumann; three great grandchildren; and by a special friend, "Little Man." She was preceded in death by her parents, James Davis and Mary (Hill) Owens.

James H. Penwell
TRENTON - James H. Penwell, 73, of Trenton, formerly of Lebanon, died Monday, May 14, 2001, at Garden Manor Care Center in Middletown. Born in Miamisburg, the son of Clarence and Lona (Ludy) Penwell, he was retired from the Howard Paper Mills in Dayton. Mr. Penwell was a member of the Lebanon Church of God. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was preceded in death by his parents and his former wife of 41 years, Janet (Linebaugh) Penwell. He is survived by his wife, Kay (Amburgy) Penwell; sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Mary of Miamisburg, and Randy and Della of Lebanon; daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Frank Gruber of Waynesville; daughter, Cindy Penwell of Lebanon; and special daughter, Barbara Gardner of Lebanon. He is also survived by two stepdaughters, Ronda and Ronald Gibson and Robyn and Daron Bare, all of Trenton; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Dorothy Elizabeth Pratt
Dorothy Elizabeth Pratt (nee Dorothy E. Davies), Middletown,an Angel on Earth, joined the Heavenly Host of Angels on Wednesday, May 16, 2001. She was the only daughter of George and Vera (Blaising) Davies and was preceded in death by her mother and father. She succumbed to a lengthy illness at Alterra Nursing Home after several years of constant care by several nursing homes and her loving family. Mrs. Pratt was a graduate of Middletown High School, Class of 1940, and had attended Miami University, Oxford, and Southwestern College in San Diego, Calif. She was also a graduate of the Middletown Business College. Dorothy was active in Bethlehem Lutheran Church activities, the Middletown Music Club, genealogy organizations and was very active as a vocal soloist in earlier years. She had been very active in school affairs, the Cub Scouts and parental groups when her family was young. She was previously a member of Browns Run Country Club and currently Forest Hills Country Club. She leaves her husband of 56 and a half years, Harry D. Pratt; three loving sons and their families, including Dave and Robin, Dick and Cheri and Doug and Sherrie. Her family includes six grandsons, two granddaughters and two great-granddaughters, and she is also survived by a cousin, Mary E. Harvey.

GERMANTOWN - Gladys Ransom, 74, of Dona Vista, Fla., formerly of the Germantown area, died Monday, May 14, 2001. She was born on Aug. 2, 1926, the daughter of Vernon and Julia Puckett. She had been a resident of the Germantown area before moving to Dona Vista, Fla., in her later years. Mrs. Ransom is survived by two daughters, Robin Xenias of Orlando, Fla., and Gloria Wells of Dona Vista, Fla.; her sisters, Grace and husband David Sebastian of Indiana, Ada Dunsmoor of Franklin, and Mary Daugherty of Kentucky; a brother, Walter Puckett of Maryland; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Douglass Ransom; her daughter, Linda Lewis; and sons Robert and Douglass Ransom.

GERMANTOWN - Mrs. Martha Virginia Roberts, 85, of 8848 Cherry St., passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at Sycamore Medical Center. She was born Oct. 19, 1915, in Dayton, the daughter of Martin A. and Pansy Jane (Mobley) Riley. Mrs. Roberts formerly worked at the House of Drugs and at the Family Shoe Store. Preceding her in death were her parents, a brother, Bud, and a sister, Dorothy. She is survived by her husband Earl; a son, Bob Barnes and wife Cledith of Germantown; a daughter, Virginia Lee Leonard and husband, Cap of Franklin; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Shirley Jo Shrout, 47, of Cincinnati, formerly of Middletown, passed away Monday, May 14, 2001. She had been a resident of Scarlet Oaks Nursing Home. Rev. Robert J. Suver
Robert Joseph Suver died Friday, May 18, 2001, at the Franciscan at St. Leonard after a long illness. Born June 25, 1914, in Springfield, Ohio, he completed his preparatory studies at St. Gregory Seminary, studied theology at Mount St. Mary Seminary and earned his bachelor of arts degree from the Athenaeum of Ohio. He was ordained by Archbishop John T. McNicholas on May 18, 1940, at St. Monica's Church. After his ordination, Father Suver's first appointment was as an associate at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Norwood, Ohio. In March 1942, he was appointed associate pastor at Holy Trinity Church in Coldwater, Ohio. He returned to Cincinnati in 1945 as an associate at St. Leo Church, Fairmount. He served as associate at St. Matthew Church, Norwood, and the following year at St. Joseph Church, Ezzard Charles Drive. He also taught at DePorres High School. On March 17, 1949, he moved to St. Catharine Church, Westwood, as associate pastor and taught at Elder High School. He was appointed chaplain at the Maria-Joseph Home, Dayton, in December, 1950. In 1954, he served as associate pastor at St. James Church, Dayton, and chaplain of the Montgomery County Workhouse. In 1956, he was associate at St. Mary, Springfield, and the following year, administrator of St. Michael Church, Mechanicsburg, and Immaculate Conception, North Lewisburg. On Aug. 25, 1965, he was appointed pastor of St. Nicholas Church, Osgood, and in 1973, pastor of St. Mary Church, Franklin. He began his retirement on July 3, 1989, at Holy Family Parish, Middletown. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary (Reagen) Suver, and a sister, Margie Ann Suver, S.C. He is survived by the Brademeyer and Bramlage families.

Clarice (Heflin) Wallace
Mrs. Clarice (Heflin) Wallace, 91, of 119 Shafor St., Middletown, went to be with the Lord Friday, May 18, 2001, at 3:30 a.m. at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born Sept. 13, 1909, in Dover, Tenn., to Arthur and Eunice (Smith) Heflin and had resided in Middletown since 1950. Mrs. Wallace was a 45-year member of the Yankee Road Church of God and had recently attended the Tytus Avenue First Church of God. She was a homemaker and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Eunice (Smith) Heflin; her husband of 65 years, Lloyd Wallace in 1992, and by one infant son, Woodrow Wilson Wallace. She is survived by two sons, Andrew Wallace and wife Jo of Middletown and Melvin Wallace and wife Carolyn of Franklin; three daughters, Martha Wood of Culver City, Calif., Etta Wallace and husband Robert of Middletown and Freida Shuler and husband Robert of Hamilton; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Juda Kathryn "Grandma" Blackburn, 79, of 1618 Sheridan Ave., was called home to be with Jesus on May 13, 2001. She was born in Morgan County, Ky., June 13, 1921, a daughter of Robert Lee and Myrtle (Meek) Price, and lived in this area most of her life. She devoted her life to Christ many years ago and spent her life serving God, loving her family and helping others any way she could. To many, she was known as "Grandma." Over the years she had been a member of various churches. She leaves behind her loving family of 3 daughters, Brenda and Albert Ingram of Middletown, Edith Combs of Ezel, Ky., and Elizabeth and William Bush of Frenchburg, Ky.; a son, Roy James "Byrd" and Lee Ann Blackburn of Campton, Ky.; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Gracie Bush of Mt. Joseph B. Borchers
Joseph B. Borchers, 88, of 44 S. Main St., Fort Loramie, Ohio, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at 1 a.m. at the Heritage Manor Nursing Center in Minster, Ohio, following a three-and-a-half month illness. Born June 11, 1912, in Fort Loramie, he was the son of William J. and Magdalina (Seiters) Borchers. He was married May 3, 1939, in Middletown to Mary E. Ritter. He was member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Fort Loramie, serving as a church usher from 1935 to 1960, on the parish council from 1960 to 1965, as minister of communion from 1970 to 2000, and lector from 1965 to 1972. He served as secretary-treasurer of St. Michael Cemetery from 1953 to 1995, served on the village council 21 years and was president of council for two years. He also served as village council clerk-treasurer for 11 years and worked many years with Boy Scout Troop 355. He was a member of Kiwanis and served as president in 1980. He was also Interclub chairman for 10 years and division chair of public relations for two years. Mr. Borchers was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Minster for 68 years, serving as chairman of the scholarship committee, he was president of Shelby County AAA for 26 years, and he was on the Dorothy Love board of directors. He was the owner and operator of Borchers Store in Fort Loramie until 1993 and was a former district manager of distribution for the Dayton Daily News. He was a 1929 graduate of Minister High School and a graduate of Miami Jacobs College of Business Administration. His wife, Mary E., died in 1998, and he was also preceded in death by two brothers. He is survived by children, Judith and Richard Beck of Fairborn, Robert and Jennifer Borchers of Worthington, Ohio, and Ted and Kay Borchers of Fort Loramie; and by sister and brother, Victoria Alberts of Fort Loramie and Carl Borchers of Winter Springs, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

LEBANON - Maxine Crisp, 71, of Lebanon, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at Bethesda North Hospital. Born in Lebanon Jan. 1, 1930, the daughter of Hobart and Letha (Blevins) Crisp, she was a well known business woman in Lebanon, having owned and operated The Flower Basket for over 38 years. She was a member of the Lebanon Eagles, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Brack Crisp. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Debbie Osborne of Mason; a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Bill Sulfsted of Oregonia; a daughter, Cindy Spencer of Kentucky; a brother, Jerry Crisp of Lebanon; a sister, Virginia Fugett, also of Lebanon; grandchildren, Bart Osborne, Cindy Tanner, Lisa Traud, Kelea Morrow and Preston Spencer; and two great-grandchildren.

Ann Crow, 83, of Middletown, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Middletown Regional Hospital. Born here April 26, 1918, she was the daughter of Joseph and Mari (Ruman) Orth. She was a member of Holy Family Parish and the Middletown Senior Citizens. She worked as an accountant for the National Amusement Co., retiring in 1974 after more than 38 years of service. Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis R. Bohm of Rochester, Ind.; granddaughter, Angela D. Stanton of Wilmington, Ohio; a grandson, Kenneth A. Roberds, Gratis, Ohio; great-granddaughters, Mallory Jane Stanton and Staci Brown; great-grandchildren, Rebecca Jean and Kyle Andrew Roberds; and great-great-grandchildren, Kaylie Kristen and Benjamin Scott Brown. Lorena W. Danneker
TRENTON - Mrs. Lorena W. Danneker, 93, of Trenton, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at the Hawthorn Glen Nursing Home. Born Nov. 9, 1907, in Picayune, Miss., she grew up in New Orleans and had lived in Trenton for 41 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Ida Morningstar chapter of the Eastern Star 572. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lorraine Hughes, sons-in-law Logan Hughes and John W. Ruroede, and a granddaughter, Jill Danneker. Mrs. Danneker is survived by her husband of 75 years, Christian M. Danneker; a daughter, Elaine Ruroede of Hasbrouck, N.J.; a son, John Danneker and wife, Joy of Rindge, N.H.; four great-great-grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and nine grandchildren, including Michael and Diana Hughes, whose family provided tremendous support. The family members also extend their thanks to Hawthorn Glen for the wonderful care given in recent months.

Edward F. Fabing
Edward F. Fabing, 81, of Middletown, died Monday, May 7, 2001, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born Oct. 1, 1919, in Middletown, the son of George Fabing and Cora (Stubbs) Fabing. Mr. Fabing was a veteran of the U.S. Army, inducted at Fort Thomas on March 14, 1941, and discharged at Camp Atterbury, Ind., on Oct. 29, 1945. He served in the USA and Germany, receiving the Bronze Star and other medals. Mr. Fabing was employed for 29 years at the Middletown Journal and for 17 years at the Dayton Daily News. He was married to Dora Gomia on April 25, 1942. He was a member of American Legion Post 218 for 56 years, founded the American Legion Bowling League, was active with the Sports Bowl Senior League and became a member of the Middletown Bowling Association Hall of Fame for over 50 years of achievement and outstanding contribution to bowling. He also played softball for many years in organized leagues and was a member of the Patterson Field team when stationed there. He is survived by his wife, Dora Fabing; daughter, Judith Anne; grandson, Stan Margerum and wife, Kathy; and great-grandchildren, Brandon and Jade Margerum, and Holly Lynn Bennett. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother and a granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Bennett.
ARRANGEMENTS: Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Leiter officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Butler County Memorial Park. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside by the American Legion Post 218 Color Guard.

John W. Finkbone
John W. Finkbone, 95, of Clarksville (Washington Township) in Warren County, formerly of the Middletown area, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at the Quaker Heights Nursing Home in Waynesville. Born May 25, 1905, the son of George W. and Elizabeth (Slade) Finkbone in Middletown, he was a self-employed farmer in Butler and Warren counties, retiring from his Washington Township farm in Warren County where he and his family had lived since the 1950's. He served twice in the U.S. Army and was a volunteer officer's candidate in the World War II era. Mr. Finkbone also served three sheriffs as a special lieutenant deputy sheriff in Warren County and had worked with the Ohio State Highway Patrol Auxiliary for a number of years. A member of American Legion Post 218, Middletown, he was an active member of the Warren and Butler County Farm Bureau for many years and was a member of the Clarksville Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite. He also assisted his father-in-law as overseer of the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Poasttown for over 50 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and bother, George T. Finkbone. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 72 years, Lucille (Bowlus) Finkbone, a retired Morrow Elementary School teacher; son, Bill Finkbone and his wife, Lorraine Bradley of Mason; double cousin Ruth Slade and sister-in-law, Oveda Finkbone, both of Middletown. He is also survived by grandchildren, Scott Bradley and wife Christina of Athens, Kevin Bradley of Mason, Christopher Bradley and his wife, Angela of Chicago, John W. Finkbone II of Clarksville and William Todd Finkbone of Mason; and three great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Friends my call on the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with Masonic services at 8 p.m. at the Stine -Kilburn Funeral Home in Lebanon. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, at the Mount Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church, Poasttown, with burial in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Patricia B. Graham
Mrs. Patricia B. Graham, 79, of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of Middletown, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at the Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater following a short illness. She was born in Hamilton on April 10, 1922, the daughter of H. Allen Murray and Dorothy L. Murray. Mrs. Graham came to Clearwater in 1988 from Sharonville, Ohio, after retiring from the Princeton School District. She gave most of her adult life to helping others, including collecting for many charities, serving as a nurse's aide at Middletown Hospital during World War II, volunteering with Meals on Wheels in Pinellas County and assisting the secretary at Hope Presbyterian Church in Clearwater where she was a member. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Walter L.; two sons, Timothy A. of Deer Park and Jon T. of Sharonville; a daughter-in-law, Robin E.; three grandchildren, Brian P., Jeffrey L. and Jeremy M. Graham; and a brother, Howard "Jack" Murray of Middletown.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service at Hope Presbyterian Church in Clearwater, Fla., is to be announced in the future. Interment will be in Florida.

Robert Gray
TRENTON - Robert Gray, 78, of Trenton, died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at the Oak Creek Terrace Nursing Home in Kettering. Born Sept. 18, 1922, in Middletown, Mr. Gray had lived his entire life in Trenton. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and had worked at the coke plant at Armco Steel Corp. He was a member of American Legion Post 218 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. During his service years he received the American European-African-Middle East-Asiatic and Pacific ribbons, along with five Bronze Stars. He was initiated into the Solemn Mysteries of the Deep, having crossed the equator aboard the USS Gillespie. He was also initiated into the Oriental Mysteries of the Honorable Ancestors of the Golden Dragon and was recognized as a Trusty Dragon Back. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Pauline Gray, Dec. 26, 2000, and by his parents, Clifford and Bessie Gray. He is survived by a daughter, Mary Jane (Keith) Fox of Kettering; three grandsons, Brian (Nana) Fox of Camden, Greg (Jennifer) Fox of West Alexandria and Jason Fox of Miamisburg; three great-grandchildren, Brandon, Madison and Kirsten Fox; two brothers, David Gray of Middletown and Raymond Gray, also of Middletown; and two sisters, Anna Mae Bowlin of Colonial Heights, Va., and Phyllis White of Alabaster, Ala.
ARRANGEMENTS: Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, at the Baker-Stevens Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas B. Mellott officiating and burial in Woodside Cemetery. The visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

John (Jack) Hagan
John (Jack) Hagan Jr., 92, of Middletown, died Monday, May 7, 2001, at Middletown Regional Hospital. Born Nov. 8, 1908, in Parnassus, Pa., he was the son of Violet Ellen (Howells) Hagan and John Joseph Hagan Sr. Mr. Hagan was a member of the Church of the Ascension, a charter member of Brown's Run Country Club and a member of the Historical Society of Middletown and the Friends of the Middletown Library. He worked for Armco Steel Corp. as a senior mill representative, retiring in 1973. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John Joseph Sr. and Violet Ellen Hagan; brothers, Robert and Richard "Dick" Hagan; and by a sister, Emily Benedict. Mr. Hagan is survived by his wife, Mary Hagan; two sons, Michael Moon of Middletown and John Moon of South Padre Island, Texas; daughters, Judy Hagan Woods of Jensen Beach, Fla., Beverlie Pogue of Gaithersburg, Md., and Marna (Bruce) Hall of Middletown; grandchildren, Jim (Lorraine) Woods of Union Mills, N.C., David M. Hall of Middletown, Richard D. Moon of Roanoke, Va., Eric Moon of Wrightsville Beach, N.C., Aaron Pogue of Newark, Del., and Sarah Pogue of College Park, Md.; and four great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Woodside Cemetery with the Rev. William Rathman officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are by the Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home.

David W. Hetzler
FRANKLIN -- David W. Hetzler, 94, of the Otterbein Retirement Center, formerly of Franklin, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born Nov. 2, 1906, in Germantown, the son of Edwin and Pearl "Shaffer" Hetzler. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed as a coater for Armco Steel Corp. for 28 years, retiring in 1972. He was a member of the Armco Retirees, Franklin Lions Club, American Legion in Franklin, Methodist Men's Fellowship, St. Mary's Church and the Franklin Historical Society. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Cecelia Costello Hetzler. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Lintner Hetzler; four sisters, Virginia Weaston, Lenore Evans Blue, and Joanna Hughes, all of Lebanon, and Mary Michael Arnold of Germantown; stepsons, Marc Lintner of Middletown and Paul Lintner of Cincinnati; and many nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: There will a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Church in Franklin with the Rev. Joseph Breuning officiating and burial in Woodhill Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Otterbein Lebanon Retirement Center. Eaton-Anderson & Unglesby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
