Johnny M. Brown
Johnny Mack Brown, 41, of 2813 Lefferson Road, passed away Friday at his residence. He was born in Middletown July 6, 1959, a son of James and Lillian (Moore) Brown, and was a lifelong resident.
Among his survivors are his mother, Lillian Brown; a sister, Lisa Smith; two brothers, Timothy Brown and Robert (Carrie) Brown; his grandmother, Grace Moore; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. His father preceded him in death in 1999.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home, with the Rev. Billy Wilson officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time Monday. Burial will follow in Woodside Cemetery.
Joe M. Carpenter Sr.
Joe McVernon Carpenter Sr., 54, of 948 Dubois Road, 1D, Carlisle, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, in Hamilton.
He was born in Middletown March 9, 1947, the son of the late William A. and Golden G. (Tinch) Carpenter. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, AMVETS, was the Florida state pool champ in 1996 and was a drummer. He was formerly employed by Day Pak in Dayton.
Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, B.J. and Raymond Dean Carpenter.
Surviving are his wife of 16 years, Wandalene (Tolson) Carpenter; two sons, Joe Carpenter Jr. and Steven Carpenter, both of Carlisle; two daughters, Nikki Williams of Carlisle and Heather Carpenter of Springboro; and a brother, Gary Carpenter of Waynesville.

Edna Caskey
Edna L. Caskey, 76, of Middletown, died Saturday, June 2, 2001.
She was born Jan. 16, 1925, in Vanceburg, Ky. She lived in the Middletown community for 45 years. She was a machine operator at Inland Container for 43 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of Church of God in Jesus.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Katie Applegate; a son, Roy D. Caskey Sr.; and a brother, Everett Applegate.
She is survived by a grandson and his wife, Roy and Rose Caskey Jr. of Middletown; a great-granddaughter, Spirit Caskey of Middletown; a stepgranddaughter, Nikki Caudill; and many friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home. Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery.
Elizabeth Corrill
Mrs. Elizabeth "Bette" Corrill, 77, of Dublin House, Middletown, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at 4:45 a.m. at Middletown Regional Hospital where she had been a patient since May 17.
She was born on Oct. 3, 1923, in Charter Oak, Iowa, and had lived in Ohio for 50 years. She was employed as a department manager at Hills Department Store for 20 years, retiring in 1986. Mrs. Corrill was a member of Holy Family Parish and was a volunteer at the St. John's Bingo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Gertrude (Schmidtz) Staley; a son, James Michael Corrill in 1993; a brother, Jim Staley; and a sister, Monica Keuhl.
She is survived by six sons, John "Pat" Corrill, and Paul Corrill, and his wife, Gail, all of Middletown, Bradley Corrill of Cincinnati, Eric Corrilll of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Bill Corrill, and his wife, Debbie, and Tom Corrill, all of Middletown; three daughters, Kathleen "Kate" Warren of Norwalk, Ohio, Monica F. McIntosh of Miamisburg and Therese Mowery, and husband, Dennis, of Middletown; a daughter-in-law, Karen Corrill of Middletown; 20 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Lovell, and husband, Paul, of Logan, Iowa; and many, many, many friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: There will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, June 7, at St. John's Chapel of Holy Family Parish, 1405 First Ave., Middletown, with Father John Civille as celebrant.

Edward G. Ditmyer
Edward G. Ditmyer, 85, a resident of Middletown, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2001, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
Mr. Ditmyer enlisted into the Army on March 5, 1942, and left the United States for foreign duty on June 8, 1943. He participated in the Sicilian Campaign, the Italian Campaign, the Southern France Campaign and the German Campaign. He served with Cannon Company of the 180th Infantry and had attained the rank of staff sergeant. He was awarded a Battle Field Honorable Discharge on Jan 13, 1945.
Ed reenlisted into the Army on Jan. 14, 1945, with the ran of First Lieutenant. He had participated in battles of the Rhineland and in Central Europe. He returned to the United States in September, 1945, and received his honorable discharge at Camp Atterbury, Ind., on Dec. 2, 1945.
Mr. Ditmyer was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his outstanding courage, loyalty and sincere devotion to duty. On June 11, 1947, he was awarded a Letter of Commendation from the President of the United States for Patriotism, Valor and Fidelity while in the service of his country.
Mt. Ditmyer was a lifelong farmer in the Butler County area and had been a member of the American Legion Post 136 Durwin Schantz.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Norman (Edith) Lindauer of Waynesville and Margaret Jarrendt of Middletown; a brother, William J. Ditmyer, and his wife, Mary, of Oxford; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William G. and Sarah Anne (Bergmyer) Ditmyer; and three brothers, Arthur, Marcus and Henry Ditmyer.
ARRANGEMENTS: Prayer services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 16, at the Colligan Funeral Home, 437 South Third St., Hamilton, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church in Trenton, Ohio. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Oliver F. Fielder
Oliver F. Fielder, of Middletown, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was 86.
He was born in Franklin, Ohio, on Dec. 15, 1914, and lived in this area for 20 years. Mr. Fielder was a plumber. He formerly worked through Union Local 162 and retired about 20 years ago. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Vessie Fielder.
Among his survivors are his wife of 66 years, Evelyn; a son, Kenneth O. Fielder (Bunny) of Monroe; three grandchildren, Gregory Fielder (Jaqui) of West Chester, and Christina Randolph (Barry) and Michael Fielder, both of Monroe; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Dunham of Miamisburg.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at Miami Valley Memory Gardens.

Larry Fletcher
Larry Fletcher, 51, of 814 Aeronca St., Middletown, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
He was born in Blue Diamond, Ky., on Dec. 18, 1949, the son of Albert Fletcher and Emma Lee Collins (Campbell). Mr. Fletcher was a member of the Community Jesus Church in Franklin Township.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and stepmother, Rose Fletcher of Kentucky.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Virginia (Neace) Fletcher; sons, Larry Fletcher Jr. and Gregory Fletcher, both of Middletown; stepfather, Emory Collins of Indiana; brothers, Gene Charles of Kentucky and Wayne and Anthony of Indiana; sisters, Betty Gail of Ohio, Debbie, Rayme and Frances of Kentucky, and Donna, Kathy, Brenda, Pam and Mable, all of Indiana; an aunt, Glenna, and uncle, June; and a host of other relatives.

Glenna L. Fugate
Glenna L. Fugate, 61, of Middletown, passed away at Middletown Regional Hospital Wednesday morning, June 6, 2001.
She was born on Nov. 17, 1939, in Wildie, Ky., the daughter of Roy and Mattie Burdett Cummins. She was employed by BP Oil of Ohio for 19 years as a cashier.
She is survived by three daughters, Terri L. Fugate, Toni L. Fugate Barrett and Kristi Brewer, all of Middletown; two sisters, Dorothy E. Coffey and Doris E. Johnston, both of Middletown; a brother, Jack Cummins of Middletown; and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert McNutt.

Phyllis G. Gabbard
Phyllis Geraldine Gabbard, 64, of Somerville, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2001, at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati.
Surviving are her four children, Dale Gabbard of Hamilton, Ohio, Tammy Newton of Somerville, Ohio, and Nancy Rainwater and Robert L. Gabbard Jr., both of Williamsburg, Ky.; and one sister, Linda Marcum of Somerville.

Ethel Siple Guinter
Mrs. Ethel Siple Guinter, 85, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, in Monroe, Ohio, following a lifetime of physical problems and a recent surgery.
She was born in Wrightsville, Pa., on Nov. 20, 1915. She lived in York, Pa., and Rochester, N.Y., before moving to Dayton. Her last eight years were spent with her husband at Mount Pleasant Retirement Village in Monroe.
She is survived by her husband, John, at Mount Pleasant; her sister, Esther Creamer, and husband, Lynn, of Lancaster, Pa.; two children, Bonnie Venable, and her husband, Robert, of Roanoke, Va., and Dr. Robert Guinter, and his wife, Dee, of Collierville, Tenn.; and four grandchildren, Barbara Bowman of Norfolk, Va., Jeffrey Bowman of Louisville, Ky., Brian Guinter, and wife Kacey, of Cordova, Tenn., and Scott Guinter, and wife Karla, of Arlington, Texas.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service will be held in Monroe, Ohio, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, at the Mount Pleasant Center.

Violet M. Hay
Violet M. Hay, of Monroe, died Sunday at Mount Pleasant Retirement Home.
She was born to Leslie E. and Mary Elsie (King) Snook. A lifelong resident of Warren County, she was a licensed cosmetologist, owning and operating a beauty shop in Lebanon for a number of years. She and her husband owned and operated W.O. Hay Furniture and Real Estate. Mr. Hay passed away in 1980. She retired and spent her time with her family, friends and her devoted dog, Mollie K. She was a member of the Lebanon Presbyterian Church and several other local groups for many years.
She leaves a daughter, Carol Ann Hawke, and husband Maynard of Lebanon; three grandchildren, Kathy Lynn Shafor and husband Eric of Lebanon, David Hawke and wife Renee of Xenia, and William Hawke and wife Kimberly of Cincinnati; three great-grandchildren, McKenzi Hawke, Mikaela Hawke and Katrina Shafor, and many friends and relatives.
ARRANGEMENTS: Private services to be held at the Oswald-Hoskins Funeral Home, Lebanon with interment to follow at the Deerfield Cemetery, South Lebanon. The Rev. Stan Goeckel will officiate.

Carol Herlihy
Mrs. Carol (Thomas) Herlihy, 66, of Middletown, died Monday, June 4, 2001, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
She was born in Middletown on Aug. 10, 1934, and was a lifelong Middletown resident. Mrs. Herlihy was supervisor at the Warren County Board of Mental Retardation and had worked there for 171Ú2 years before retiring in 1994.
She was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Women of the Moose Lodge 183, Elks, American Legion, Eagles and the Harvest Chapter of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Herlihy; her father, Earl A. Thomas; a sister, Marlene Thomas; and an infant son, John Herlihy.
Surviving are a son, Alan Pummill (Shelia) of Middletown; daughters, Ellen Fink (Dan) of Middletown, Vicki Kierstead (Jim) of Beavercreek and Beth Day of Dayton; a brother, Bruce Thomas of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; her mother, Marjorie Thomas of Middletown; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and an uncle, Frank Gibbons of Middletown.

Virginia M. Hensey
Mrs. Virginia May Hensey, 82, formerly of Lemon Township, died at Mount Pleasant Retirement Village, Friday, June 8, 2001.
Virginia was born in Middletown, Ohio, on June 14, 1918, to Nicholas and Evelyn (Bauer) Lakoff.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, John A. Hensey.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, several cousins and nieces and nephews.

Karen S. House
HAMILTON -- Karen S. House, 41, went to be with our heavenly father on Sunday, June 10, 2001, after suffering a massive stroke while attending a business conference. She passed away at Tulane University Hospital, New Orleans, La.
Born on Oct. 28, 1959, in Hamilton, Ohio, she was the daughter of David and Geraldine (Allen) House. Karen was valedictorian of the 1978 graduating class of New Miami High School. She was a graduate of Miami University, earning a bachelor of science in 1982, graduating magna cum laude, and a master of science in Educational Leadership in 1983.
Karen was a dedicated employee of Miami University of Hamilton, serving as Director, Continuing Education and Business and Industry Center. She was a longtime member of Tri-County Baptist Church.
Karen was very active in the community, serving on several boards and committees, including Greater Hamilton Business Expo 2001 Planning Committee, the Small Business Development Center, 2001 and 2002 Kids' Health Fair Planning Committees, Lifelong Learning Task Force in the City of Hamilton's Vision 2020 planning process, board member and alumni participant, Leadership Hamilton activities, and Southeastern Butler County Chamber Leadership 21 Program.
She served as chairperson of the Continuing Education Directors networking group, Greater Cincinnati consortium of Colleges and Universities, Conference Services Committee, and Ohio Continuing Higher Education Association Constitution and Bylaws Committee, 2001-2002.
She was a member of the University Continuing Education Association, American Society for Training and Development-Cincinnati Chapter, Greater Consortium of Colleges and Universities -Continuing Education Directors. She served as past president of Ohio Continuing Higher Education Association 1995 - 1996 and was re-elected to a second two-term to serve as treasurer of the University Continuing Education Association.
Karen is survived by her loving family, including her mother, Geraldine of Hamilton; her brother, James D. House, and his wife, Mary, of Hamilton; her sister, Donna J. Lindy, and her husband, Rudy, of Fairfield; and brother David L. House II of Hamilton. She was the devoted aunt of Jenna and Ryan Lindy, and Joseph, Emily and Rachel House. Her father, David L. House, preceded her in death in 1999.
She will be greatly missed by several aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, colleagues and associates. Karen was a very giving person in life and continued giving in death as an organ donor.

Geneva M. Irvin
FRANKLIN -- Mrs. Geneva M. Irvin, 75, of 8884 Oriole Drive, passed away Friday, June 8, 2001, at Sycamore Hospital.
She was born in Lynch, Ky., on March 29, 1926, the daughter of Judd Polk and Mary (Voyles) Grizzle. Mrs. Irvin was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Loraine Eversole and Ailene Wilcox; and three brothers, Judd Jr., Billy and Bobby Grizzle.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Arnold; two daughters, Gloria Bohannon of Franklin and Pam Goins of Carlisle; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Bert Isaacs
Bert Isaacs, 90, of 5027 Brock Lane, Dayton, formerly of the Trenton area, died Friday, June 8, 2001, at Kettering Hospital.
He was born July 22, 1910, in Williamsdale. He was the son of Steve and Laura (Lakes) Isaacs. He married Dorothy Smith on December 23, 1933. She preceded him in death in 1992. He was a member of the First Church of God in Camden.
He retired from Fisher Body in Fairfield and also farmed for many years in Preble and Butler counties. His son Clifford lovingly cared for him for the past 10 years.
He is survived by two sons, Clifford Isaacs and Gary L. (June) Isaacs, all of Dayton; two daughters, Carol Jean (Richard) Barnhart of Dayton and Rita Fae (John) Little of Xenia; nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; two brothers, Russell Isaacs of Mt. Sterling and James Isaacs of Arizona; three sisters, Stella McVey of Riley, Hazel English of Connersville, Ind., and Thelma (Garrett) Forman of Hamilton; and many other relatives and friends.
Two sons, Teddy and Clyde; seven brothers and one sister also preceded him in death.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation for Mr. Isaacs will be on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the R.C. Nein & Sons-Thompson Funeral Home, 249 N. Main St., Camden. Reverend John Jennings
The Rev. John Patrick Jennings, 87, former pastor of St. John Parish in Middletown, died Friday at Mercy Franciscan Hospital in Western Hills.
The Rev. Jennings served as pastor at St. John from 1969 to 1973 before moving to North Bend, where he served for 10 years as pastor at St. Joseph Parish before retiring in 1983.
Father Jennings was a career Army chaplin and attained the rank of colonel during 20 years of service.
During his second tour of duty he served at posts in the United States and abroad, including duty with the 65th Infantry Regiment in Korea, where he received a Bronze Star medal for valor in 1951.
He was a graduate of Mount St. Mary's Seminary in Cincinnati, had taught at Purcell High School and served as assistant pastor at St. Augusta and St. Teresa parishes in Cincinnati.
Denzil R. Jestice
Denzil R. Jestice, 87, of Middletown, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Hillandale Health Care Center in Hamilton, Ohio.
He was born in Maytown, Ky., on Dec. 6, 1913, and lived here since 1927.
Mr. Jestice had worked as a blacksmith and in maintenance at Armco Steel Co. for 42 years, retiring in 1976. He had also worked part time at the Baker-Stevens Funeral Home for 22 years.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge 693 Free & Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite and York Rite and Shriners.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hansford and Etta (Pieratte) Jestice; and brothers, Robert, Clester and Coy Jestice.
He leaves his wife of 62 years, Marilyn Darnell Jestice; two daughters, Barbara Gray, and husband, Ray, of Lebanon, and Linda Poynter, and husband, Bill, of Middletown; four grandchildren, Paul Gray, and wife, Laura, and Danny Gray, and wife, Lisa, all of Lebanon, Elizabeth Benson, and husband, Gil, of Florence, Ky., and John W. Poynter of Monroe; two great-grandchildren, Rachel Gray and Zane Gray; a godson, Alex Hardy; special neighbors, the Hardys, the Olingers and the Yaegers; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to express their special thanks for the care and concern provided to Mr. Jestice by the Hillandale Health Care staff.

Nora Lou Johnson
FRANKLIN -- Nora Lou Johnson, 57, of 617 S. River St., No. A, Franklin, passed away Monday, June 4, 2001, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
She was born in Harlan, Ky., on Dec. 29, 1943, the daughter of Luther and Laura (Clem) Davidson.
She was preceded in death by her mother; brother baby Davidson; three sisters, Pearly and Ethel May Davidson and Rosa Lee Davidson; and a granddaughter, Jessica Nichole Peck.
She is survived by her children, Laura Lynn Robbins, and husband, Fred, of Franklin, Price Johnson Jr., and wife, Rita, of Franklin, and Randell Lee Johnson, and wife, Susan, of Middletown; her father, George Luther Davidson of Harlan, Ky.; four brothers, Luther (L. C.), and Harold and Berchel Davidson, all of Franklin, and Monroe Davidson of Middletown; four sisters, Nealus of Harlan, Ky., Linda Robbins of Franklin, Phyllis Davidson of Beavercreek and Hazel Shaw of Kentucky; eight grandchildren, Ricky Lee Craig, Tony Monroe Craig, Krisha Kay Weaver, Randy Scott Craig, Brandon Heith Robinson, Randell Lee Johnson Jr., Amelia Johnson and Jacob Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Kayla Hummerick, Paige Renee Craig, Brittany Lynn Weaver, Mason Monroe Craig and Cody Craig Weaver.

Mildred G. Kemp
Mildred G. Kemp passed away on her 93rd birthday at the McKnight Terrace Assisted Living home in Middletown on Monday night, June 10, 2001.
She was born in Sardinia, Ohio, the daughter of Ralph and Winona Rosselott Kennedy. In 1959, she moved to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where she enjoyed the warm weather and ocean.
Millie moved to Middletown three years ago to be near her family. She will be fondly remembered for her warmth, sincere concern and generosity to others, and her gentle wit.
She is survived by a son, Thomas A., and his wife, Judy Kemp, of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter, Jean Anne, and her husband, Dr. Ray Kiefhaber of Middletown; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Friends may visit and remember Millie at the home of her daughter, Dr. Ray and Anne Kiefhaber, 505 Curryer Road, today, June 14, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Arlie E. King, 80, formerly of Middletown, died Thursday in St. Augustine, Fla. He was a World War II veteran and was employed by Armco Steel for 38 years before his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce King, of St. Augustine, Fla.; two daughters, Judy Martin of Warsaw, Ind., and Vikki Davis of St. Augustine, Fla.; two sons: Larry King of Pennsacola, Fla., and Rodney King of St. Augustine, Fla.; fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His mother-in-law, Marie Williamson of Gratis, and several nieces and nephews.

FRANKLIN -- Willie A. Lakes, 84, formerly of Franklin, of Belleview, Fla., passed away Friday, June 8, 2001, in Kentucky.
He was born on Aug. 9, 1916, in Lincoln County, Ky., the son of John and Ella (Morris) Lakes. He was a Southern Baptist minister at Hillcrest Baptist Church, retiring in 1968.
He is survived by his wife, Charity Marie; a son, William Joseph "Bill" Lakes of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Evelyn Louise "Kandi" Griffin of Ocala, Fla.; four brothers, L. J. Lakes of Arizona, Gerald Lakes of Springboro, Theodore Lakes of South Carolina and Dale Lakes of Dayton; four sisters, Etta Mae Dotson and Carolyn Minton, both of Middletown, Betty Lou Caldwell of Miamisburg and Dora Lee Elmore of Dayton; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Paul G. Langan
Paul G. Langan, 82, of Middletown, Ohio, passed away at 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Heartland of Oak Ridge in Miamisburg where he had been a patient for two weeks.
He was born on May 9, 1919, in Lima, Ohio, and had lived in Middletown since 1957. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Langan was a watch and jewelry repairman for Fenzel-McDonough Jewelry Store for 29 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Holy Trinity Church of Holy Family Parish and a member of American Legion Post 218.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Byron and Rose (Simons) Langan; his wife, Marie in 1996; and a brother, Richard Langan.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Leukhardt, and husband, Ed, of Miamisburg, and Marilyn Abbott of San Diego, Calif.; six grandchildren, James Michael Leukhardt, and wife, Sharon, of Kettering, Robert Paul Leukhardt of Barberton, Ohio, Becki Marie Leukhardt, and fiance, Randy Allemeier, of Wapakoneta, Ohio, Patrick Corey Leukhardt of Middletown, Kelli Ann Leukhardt of Miamisburg and Joshua David Abbott of San Diego; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Blanche Langan of Lima, Ohio.

FRANKLIN -- Mrs. Marilyn Gail Leach, 50, of Franklin, passed away after a lengthy illness on Sunday, June 3, 2001, at 4:35 a.m. at Hospice of Dayton, where she had been a patient for three days.
She was born Sept. 17, 1950, in Oak Hill, W. Va., and lived in Ohio for 45 years. She graduated from Carlisle High School in 1968. She was employed as a medical assistant for Dr. Murphy and Kettering Family Practice. She also made and sold craft items. She was a member of Community Baptist Church in Franklin.
Mrs. Leach was preceded in death by her father, V. James Moore in 1999.
She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Joseph K. Leach; a daughter, Robin R. Leach at home; her mother, Jackie (Burr) Moore of Carlisle; a sister, Vickie Johnson and husband, Don, of Miamisburg; and nieces and nephews Todd and Tiffany Weist, and Matt and Ryan Johnson.

GERMANTOWN -- Grant Gene Little, 69, of Germantown, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Willow Knoll Nursing Home.
He was born on July 15, 1931, in Menifee County, Ky., the son of Joseph M. and Ethel (Collins) Little. Mr. Little was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the U. S. Air Force in the Phillipine Islands for two years. He was formerly employed by Armco Steel Co. in the Open Hearth Department for 29 years, retiring in 1989.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Surviving are his wife of 22 years, Janet (Small) Little; sons, Greg Little (Mary Jane Burns) of Connecticut, Joe Little (Sheila) of Eldarado, Ohio, and Jonathon Little (Anastyia) of Washington, D.C.; stepchildren, Scott Emily (Cathy) of Germantown, Lorna Smith (Michael) of Middletown and Jennifer Halron of Wisconsin; stepbrother, Butch Little of Middletown; four grandchildren; and eight step-grandchildren.

Robert Lykins
Robert "Bobby" Lykins, 57, of Middletown, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
He was born Aug. 7, 1943, in Middletown and had lived his entire life in the community.
Mr. Lykins was employed as a backhoe operator for the city of Monroe for 11 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lykins; brothers, Kenny Lykins and Danny Lykins, and a brother-in-law, Ed Bogard.

Charles McDowell
Charles W. McDowell, 87, of College Corner, Ohio, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at McCullough-Hyde Hospital in Oxford.
He was born March 24, 1914, in Hamilton, to the late William and Cynthia (Minter) McDowell. He was a retired general foreman for Armco Steel and was the retired owner of Lakeside Inn in Middletown. A former member of Middletown Moose Lodge and Middletown Elks Lodge, Mr. McDowell was a 1933 graduate of Camden High School.
Mr. McDowell was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marguerite (Dihrkop) McDowell; brother, Emerson McDowell; and sisters, Eva Thomas, Lillian Wright and Helen Johns.
He is survived by son and wife, C. William and Susan McDowell Jr. of Roanoke, Va.; daughter and husband, Judy and Wayne Staton of College Corner; four grandchildren; brothers, Everett McDowell of Franklin and Glenn F. McDowell of Middletown; sister, Bessie Crout of Middletown; and nieces and nephews.

FRANKLIN -- Everett McDowell, 84, of Franklin, Ohio, passed away Monday, June 4, 2001, at the Otterbein-Lebanon Retirement Community.
He was born in Butler County on June 24, 1917, and was a lifelong area resident. Mr. McDowell was formerly employed in the maintenance department at Armco Steel Co. and had worked there for 43 years before retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Franklin United Methodist Church and Knights of Pythias.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wanda McDowell; two daughters, Bonnie Thompson and Judy McDowell; brothers, Emerson and Charles McDowell; and sisters, Eva Thomas, Lillian Wright and Helen Johns.
He leaves his wife of 24 years, Alfreda McDowell; a son, James McDowell (Linda) of Middletown; a stepson, Gary Smallwood (Missy) of Middletown; stepdaughters, Deborah Oakley (David) of Middletown and Darlene Smallwood of Franklin, his special caregiver; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Glenn F. McDowell of Middletown; and a sister, Bessie Crout of Middletown.

Samuel Robert McIntosh, 73, of Middletown, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at the Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born in Jackson, Ky., Jan. 19, 1928, the son of Daniel and Etta (Reynolds) McIntosh.
He is survived by four daughters, Amanda Kay Penwell of Iowa, Mary Jo Hatchett of Fairborn, Jackie McQuitty of Missouri, and Melissa McIntosh of West Carrollton ; four sons, Mike McIntosh of California, John McIntosh of Germany, Mark McIntosh of Middletown and Samuel McIntosh of Middletown; 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Williams, Shirley Kindrick, Helen Bell and Nellie Agoston; and a brother, Rufus McIntosh.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret "Maggie" McIntosh in 1995; a daughter, Aretta McIntosh in February; three sisters, Marie McIntosh, Mildred Tharp, and Ruby McIntosh; five brothers, Daniel, Virgil, Joe, Herbert and Eugene McIntosh; and a great-grandson, Rodney Everhart Jr.

Mary Lee Phillips, 77, of Middletown, died Saturday, June 9, 2001, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 15, 1923, in Middletown, the daughter of the late Edward and Jessie (Gray) Smith. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her two daughters, Patricia Lee Phillips and Sharon Lee (Troy) Stacy, both of Middletown; two brothers, David Ray (Sharon) Smith of Miamisburg and Richard (Mary Lou) Smith of Middletown; a sister, Florence (Russell) Geradine of Middletown; two sisters-in-law, Sarah Smith of Middletown and Helen Smith of Carlisle; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and special friends.

Dr. Michael Reedy
Middletown native and former resident Dr. Michael T. Reedy, 59, of Camp Hill, Pa., passed away of natural causes on Thursday, June 7, 2001, while vacationing with his wife in Athens, Greece.
Dr. Reedy was a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, the only board certified oral implant specialist in Pennsylvania, and the owner and president of Miller Oral Surgery.
He was a former chairman of the Section of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at both Polyclinic Medical Center and Harrisburg Hospital, as well as a former executive officer of the Middle Atlantic Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and president of the Central Pennsylvania Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Dr. Reedy was a fellow of numerous organizations including the International College of Dentists and the International Society and Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Along with serving as a diplomat to the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, Dr. Reedy also was serving on the Board of Directors for Pennsylvania Blue Shield and Healthmate.
Finally, Dr. Reedy maintained many memberships, including the American College of Oral Implantology and the Pennsylvania Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
He was born in Middletown, Ohio, to Bernice and Donald Reedy and graduated from Middletown High School in 1960. He was a graduate of Case Western Reserve University and Dental School and completed his oral and maxillofacial residency at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. Always an eternal student and unbending teacher, he thrived on traveling, amateur photography, sports memorabilia collecting, hiking and living life to the fullest. He was once quoted as saying by Dr. Charles Fields: "If I had to do it over, I would not change a thing because all that I ever wanted to do I have done."
Surviving are his loving wife, Robin C. Reedy; his father Donald Reedy of Pine Island, Fla.; two sons, Dr. Brian and Sarah Reedy of Wyomissing, Pa., and Dr. Christian and Melinda Reedy of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; daughter Erin Reedy, RDH of Baltimore, Md.; brother Scott Reedy of Pine Island, Fla.; sister Lyn and David Ring of Indianapolis, Ind.; and two grandchildren, Liam and Connor Reedy.

Albert Saylor, 75, formerly of Middletown, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2001, at Carlisle Manor Nursing Home in Carlisle.
He was born on Aug. 8, 1925, in Hamilton, Ohio, the son of William and Sylvia (Alexander) Saylor. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy and was employed as a body repairman at Guyler Buick.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; two sons, Tom of Middletown and Mark Saylor of Carlisle; four daughters, Donna Day, Beverly Margerum and Lori Saylor, all of Middletown, and Marie Manning of Carlisle; five brothers, Jim, Kenneth, Howard and Hobert Saylor, all of Hamilton, and Frank Saylor of Middletown; four sisters, Genevieve Combs, Patty Miller, Dorothy Hinkle and Linda Fredricks, all of Hamilton; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Charles E. Soule Jr., "Charlie-Pooh," 70, of Middletown, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at Dayton, Ohio.
A Middletown native and lifelong resident, he was born on April 11, 1931, to Charles and Anna Soule. Mr. Soule was employed at Armco Steel Co. as a head heater and had worked there for 42 years before retiring in 1992.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty in 1995; his parents; and sisters, Helen Soule, Jean Reis and Hazel Sears.

Sara Agnes Sprinkel, 86, of Germantown, passed away Friday, June 8, 2001, at Sycamore Hospital. She was the daughter of Thomas and Josephine Mitchell. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, 20th Century Club of Germantown, Germantown Historical Society, BP&W, Germantown Garden Club and an active bridge player.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene R. Sprinkel in 1995; sisters and brothers Mary Mitchell, Claire Ruemping, Thomas Mitchell, John Mitchell and Charles Mitchell.
She is survived by her son, Robert, and wife Toni Sprinkel of Dayton; daughter Jan New and husband John of Knoxville, Tenn., and daughter Christa Sprinkel of Centerville; grandchildren Kathy and Dan Stewart, Michael Sprinkel, Elizabeth and David New; three great-grandchildren; and brother Robert Mitchell of Florida.

He was born in Blue Diamond, Ky., on June 9, 1935, a son of Roy and Cora (Mercer) Suttles, and moved to this area in 1954. He worked for 20 years as a tow motor operator for the Miami-Carey Co. and had formerly worked on the Armco railroad.
Mr. Suttles is survived by his wife of 47 years, Martha (Napier) Suttles; two daughters, Mary Hollon and Vicki Akers, both of Middletown; five grandchildren, Johnnie, Jesse, Gary, Michael and Martia; two great-grandchildren, Gary Jr. and Brooke; and a sister, Mary Combs, and a brother, Larry Suttles, both of Hamilton, Ohio.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 11, at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.
Harold Tabor
Harold Tabor, 61, of Middletown, went home to be with Christ on Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
He was born in Middletown, Ohio, on Feb. 29, 1940, and was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Tabor retired from his job as a car repairman at Armco/AK Steel Co. in 1992 after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Dessie Tabor.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy C. Tabor of Middletown and Dawn Lamb of Franklin; a son, Ronnie Tabor (Tonya) of Carlisle; three grandchildren, Ryan Tabor, Taylor Lamb and Jordan Tabor; a brother, James Tabor (Barbara) of Middletown; and three sisters, Norma Cruse (Kenneth) of Franklin, and Marie Spicer (Leland) and Yvonne Mason, both of Middletown.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Baker-Stevens Funeral Home, with the Rev. Benny Spencer officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mary Tabor
Mary (Armstrong) Tabor, 59, of Middletown, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at 12:35 a.m. at Middletown Regional Hospital where she had been a patient since May 23. She was born Dec. 29, 1941, in Dayton, and had lived in Middletown most of her life. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Brock and Mota (Vest) Armstrong; three sisters, Maggie Fraley, Gertrude Hillysberry and Thelma Jo Eversole; a brother, Daniel Armstrong; and a great granddaughter, Skyler Hess.
She is survived by one son, Charles David Robinson of Middletown; two daughters, Sharon Kimberlin and husband Robert and Mota Long and husband Victor, all of Middletown; nine grandchildren, Bill and Bobbie Kimberlin, Angel Hess, Kyle and Patricia Long, Charles Frye, John David Robinson, Jessica Chamblis and Tony Edwards; one great-grandchild, Tiffany Hess; one brother, Kernie Armstrong of California; two sisters, Rosetta Pierce of California and Katherine Armstrong Ballenger of Florida.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main Street, Middletown. Funeral Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor David Zornes officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery, Middletown.

George P. Taylor
GRATIS -- George P. Taylor, 81, of Gratis, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2001.
George was born on April 6, 1920, to the late James J. and Elizabeth Taylor. He retired from Harrison Radiator in 1976 after 30 years of service. Mr. Taylor attended the Beechwood United First Church of God.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Lee (1955); two sisters, Opha Neatherton and Verna Daley; and five brothers, Truman, Claude, Roy, Everett and John Taylor.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Fern (Bowman) Taylor; his daughter, Flo Hanson of Camden; sons and daughters-in-law, Harvey and Cathy Taylor of Middletown, David and Anna Taylor of Gratis, and Floyd Taylor; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; his sister, Audrey Poole of Crestwood, Ky.; two brothers, Herbert Taylor of Taylorsville, Ky., and Ernest Taylor of Mount Washington, Ky.

James T. Terry
James T. Terry, 76, of 5342 Mosiman Road, passed away Saturday evening at his residence.
He was born in Logan County W.Va., Aug. 29, 1924, a son of Terrell and Maude (Moreland) Terry and lived in this area for over 60 years. He had worked for many years as a carpenter at McGraw Construction Co.. A veteran of the Army Air Corps during World War II, he was a 50-year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. He was also a member of the Faith United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty J. (Fordyce) Terry; his children, Carol and John Ramsey, James and Debbie Terry, and Bruce and Andrea Terry, all of Middletown; Donna and Ken Goad of Tucson, Ariz.; Sharon and Lawrence Locke of Gallup, N.M.; and Debbie and Scott Wood of Jacksonburg. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; a sister, Dora (Gomer) Allen of Middletown; a brother, Ray (Pat) Terry of Palmdale, Calif.; several nieces and nephews; and special cousins, Bob and Betty Sorrell.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Sebastian Thomas
Sebastian Solen-Michael Thomas, 6-week-old son of Marcus Tyrone and Jodi Lynn Thomas of Fairborn, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2001.
Sebastian was born on April 27, 2001, in Clinton County, Ohio.
He is survived by his loving parents; a brother, Matthew Arthur Jordan, and a sister, Anthea Tatyanna Thomas, both of Fairborn; maternal grandparents, Trieva Dawley, and husband, Craig, of Midland, Ohio, and Mitch Mongold, and wife, Mary, of Wilmington, Ohio; paternal grandparents, Tyrone D. Thomas of Middletown, Ohio, and Janece Gilliam of Colorado; maternal great-grandparents, Janet Hayslikp and William F. Mongold of Wilmington, Ohio; paternal great-grandparents, W. H. Thomas of Middletown and Betty Whicker of Enon, Ohio; and numerous other family members.

Lorna Tuttle
Lorna (Ritchie) Tuttle, 81, 9117 Bertha Dr., Franklin, died Friday, June 8, 2001, at Sycamore Hospital. She was born in Elm Rock, Ky., Jan. 6, 1920, the daughter of the late Dillard and Rachel (Shepherd) Ritchie. She was employed as a nurses' aide at Grandview Hospital for 21 years, and for the past 10 years was employed by the Towne Mall. She was a member of the United Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Sam Ritchie, in 2000; son Stevie Ritchie in 1969; two brothers, Watts and Orlando Ritchie; three sisters, Nancy, Myrtle and Zell; and two great-grandchildren, Antonio and Kortney.
Surviving are two sons, Dennie Lee Tuttle and wife Debbie, and Paul Edward Tuttle and wife Brenda, all of Franklin; two brothers, Curtis Ritchie of Indiana and Jake Ritchie of Georgia; a sister, Sidney Calton of Tennessee; six grandchildren, James, Robert, Josh, Matthew, Lesa and Natasha; and five great-grandchildren Mike, Amber, Katie, Konnor and Carrissa "Stevie."

Herman G. Wenzel
Herman G. "Dutch" Wenzel, 97, of Florida, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, June 10, 2001.
He was born on Sept. 28, 1903, in Middletown and had lived the past 20 years in Florida.
Mr. Wenzel worked at Armco for 32 years, retiring in 1965.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Catherine (Weinel) Wenzel.
He is survived by daughters, Mary Kay Wenzel Deaton (Walter F.) of Middletown and Lois A. Warrick (Ronald) of Germantown; sons, Edward R. Wenzel (Frances) of Houston, Texas, and Richard A. Wenzel (Blanche) of Hunter; eight grandchildren, Tracey Deaton of Kettering, Taryn (Dave) Imsande of Dayton, Jeffrey Wenzel of Dallas, Texas, Richard Scott Wenzel of Middletown, Kimberly Velte Steinmetz, David Todd (Melanie) Velte and Misty Lynn Collins, all of Germantown; 11 great-grandchildren; a niece, Dorothy Esposito (Dominick) of Middletown and nephews, David Witt of Middletown and Richard Witt of Pueblo, Colo.

Margaret Whiteman
Mrs. Margaret Whiteman, 86, of Madison Township, Ohio, passed away Monday, June 4, 2001, at her residence.
She was born on May 24, 1915, in Somerville, Ohio, the daughter of William Francis Wetzel and Otis L. (Greenfield) Wetzel. Mrs. Whiteman was a member of the Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Ted (Margaret Ann) Whiteman and Mark (Marna) Whiteman, both of Madison Township, Ohio; a daughter, Mary B. (James) Lawson of Madison Township; and eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Whiteman was preceded in death by her husband, John C., on April 16, 1989; her parents; four brothers, Marion, Linley, Robert and Theodore Wetzel; and a sister, Hattie Hauslman.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Thursday, June 7, at Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church, with Pastor George Brewer officiating. Interment will be at Somerville Cemetery, Milford Township, Ohio.
Visitation is today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Ave., Middletown. There will be an additional visitation at the church prior to the service Thursday morning from 9 to 10 a.m.

Mary A. Whitton
Mary Annette (Kurfiss) Whitton, 83, of Franklin, formerly of Germantown, went to be with the Lord on June 7, 2001.
She retired from Dayton Walther Corp. in 1979 after 21 years of service and was a member of the Moraine Heights Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard; her parents, Lester and Pauline (Tait) Kurfiss of Germantown; her son, Gary A. Dunker of Englewood; her sister, DeNell Peck; and brothers, Neal and Lee Kurfiss.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherry D. Lewis (with whom she lived) of Franklin; her son, Rick (Bonnie) Lewis of Dandridge, Tenn.; her daughter-in-law Judith Dunker of Englewood; one granddaughter, two grandsons and five great-grandchildren; and her sister, Kathryn Southwood of California.
