Jane P. Neilson
Jane P. Neilson, 88, died Jan. 20 2003. She is survived by her son, Bruce (Rose); and daughter, Diana Hall; grandchildren, Catherine (Bob) Bassett, Holly (Tom) Williams and Scott Neilson; and brother, William Freeland, of Newark. She was preceded in death by her husband, William; and sister, Peggy. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 15 at United Methodist Church, 241 Aurora Road, Aurora.

Robert M. Rozboril
Robert Mark "Bob" Rozboril, 58, of Munson Township, died Jan. 24 2003 at Hillcrest Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born in Cleveland on Sept. 30, 1944, he lived in Bainbridge and Lyndhurst before moving to Munson in 1974. He married Kathleen Lazzaro on June 5, 1971, at St. Clare's Church in Lyndhurst. Mr. Rozboril was a building superintendent at First Realty Apartments in Lyndhurst for 35 years until August 2001, when his illness prevented him from continuing his work. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chardon, where he was a eucharistic minister. Also an active member of the Knights of Columbus Geauga Council 3304, where he served as trustee and was a Past Grand Knight, he enjoyed bowling both with a league in Bainbridge and his friends from Euclid. He also enjoyed polka music, dancing, football and being a grandfather. Mr. Rozboril is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughters, Suzanne (Terry) McCann, of Eastlake, and Deborah Savage, of Lyndhurst; grandchildren, Kailey and Cameron McCann; brother, Michael (Fran) Rozboril, of Richmond Heights; and mother-in-law, Rose Lazzaro, of Lyndhurst. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Theresa (nee Cicik) Rozboril; and father-in-law, Joseph Lazzaro. Funeral Mass was held Jan. 28 at St. Mary's Church in Chardon. Burial was in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rozboril family.

Margaret Schaefer
Margaret Schaefer (nee Rupple), 85, of Solon, died Jan. 22 2003 at her home. Born in Cleveland and a graduate of Lincoln High School, she was a 52-year resident of Solon and a member of the Gray Panthers Card Club in Solon. Mrs. Schaefer is survived by her daughter, Karen Ross; son, Timothy (Sharen); grandchildren, Patrick Ross, Maureen Kichinka, Peggy Cognati, Dean Ross, Jennifer Mynes and Jason Schaefer; great-grandchildren, Amy Schaefer, Marley Kichinka, Lydia, Cory and Tyler Cognati and Spencer Ross; great-great-grandson, Joseph Schaefer; and sister, Ann Janosko. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Schaefer; son-in-law, Thomas Ross; and siblings, Marie Morsfield, Katherine Weiss, Helen Glenn, Mildred Behm and William, Edward and Donald Rupple. Funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 24 at St. Rita Church in Solon. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery in Brook Park.

Nancy A. Schartner
Nancy A. Schartner, 54, of Troy Township, died Jan. 26 2003 at her home following a lengthy illness. Born in Wickliffe on March 8, 1948, she moved to Troy Oaks Mobile Park in 1994. A secretary at Bowman Industries division of Barnes Distribution in Cleveland for over 10 years until being disabled in 1993, she was a member of New Hope Christian Church in Troy. She enjoyed crocheting and arts and crafts. Ms. Schartner is survived by her sister, Donna Mae Tinta, a resident at Blossom Hill Nursing Home in Huntsburg; nieces, Diane (John) Lenz, of Newbury, Karen (Michael) West, of Dayton, and Kerri (Thomas) Geyer, of Indianapolis; and brother-in-law, Donald Tinta, of Cleveland. She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Stephanie (nee Horney) Schartner; brother, Larry R. Schartner; and sister, Kathleen "Kathy" Hunt. Funeral services were held Jan. 30 at Chapel of Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chester, where burial followed.

Susan Stoneman
Susan Stoneman, 51, of Mentor and formerly of Chagrin Falls, died Jan. 21 2003 at her home. Born Oct. 3, 1951, in Cleveland, she resided in Mentor for 22 years. Ms. Stoneman was vice president of Grand Rock Co., where she was employed for 27 years. She is survived by her brother, Bill Stoneman, of Mentor; sister, Sara (Doug) Wilson, of Auburn; nieces and nephews, Jennifer and Jeffrey Stoneman, of Mentor, Christopher Kofron, of Auburn, and Matthew Wilson, of Auburn. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Stoneman (nee Starkey) in 2002; and father, Harold Stoneman, in 1998. Funeral services were held Jan. 25. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Anna M. Cox
Anna Miller Cox, 93, of Aurora, died March 28 2003 at Anna Maria Nursing Home from congestive heart failure. Born May 7, 1909, in Ashtabula County, she earned a master's degree and was a Latin and English teacher at Solon High School. A member of Eastern Star and the Ohio Teachers and State Teachers, she enjoyed reading and always had a dog. She had no living relatives, but many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Cox; sisters, Mary Sharp and Ruth Cunningham; and parents, William and Nellie (nee Shannon) Miller. Private funeral services were held. Helen Jacko
Helen Jacko (nee Matuey), 77, of Largo, Fla., and formerly of Solon, died March 30 2003 in Largo. She was a retired office secretary for Solon schools. Mrs. Jacko is survived by her daughter, Kathleen, of Solon; sons, Joseph (June), of Texas, and James (Josie), of Solon; grandchildren, Lindsay and Laurel Gassner, Michael, Elissa, Steven, David and Kevin; and sister, Wilma Hurtack, of Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph. Memorial services were held April 4, and burial was in All Saints Cemetery.

Eugene A. Lillie
Eugene A. Lillie, 78, of Russell, died March 27 2003 at his residence. Born Nov. 4, 1924, in Cleveland, he was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served during World War II. Following his military service, he was an expediter for TRW for 30 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of Valley Lutheran Church in Chagrin Falls and the Solon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. Mr. Lillie is survived by his wife, Jean E. (nee Stone), whom he married on Aug. 5, 1947; children, Kathleen A. (Ben) Mitchell, Robert A. (Lynda) and Richard A. (Linda); five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers. A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Valley Lutheran Church, 87 E. Orange St., Chagrin Falls 44022, or to any other charity of choice.

Edgar A. Luce
Edgar Anson Luce, 74, of Claridon Township, died March 28 2003 at Geauga Regional Hospital. Born May 24, 1928, in Dunkirk, N.Y., he resided in Claridon for 30 years. A 1950 graduate of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa., he received a bachelor of science in biology and was a member of Theta Chi fraternity, Theta Alphi Phi and the Bucknell Cap and Gown. Mr. Luce was a retired regional vice president of ARA Services in Cleveland. He also was a retired captain in the U.S. Naval Reserves after 22 years of service. He married Lorna Taylor on Sept. 28, 1969, in Drexel Hill, Pa. Mr. Luce is survived by his wife, of Claridon; sons, Stephen (Mary Ellen), of Plano, Texas, and James (Gale) Luce, of Coto de Caza, Calif.; brother, Royce D. Luce, of Columbia, S.C.; and grandchildren, Stephen, William, Taylor, Bryn and Denae Luce. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Walter and Ruhama (nee Denton) Luce; and brother, Chester W. Luce II. A memorial service will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman at a later date to be announced. Linda J. Byerly
Linda J. Byerly (nee Papp), 53, of Symsonia, Ky., and formerly of Auburn, died May 27 2003 at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Ky. Mrs. Byerly was valedictorian of her class at Kenston High School and received a bachelor of science from Michigan State University. She retired as regional director of air pollution control for the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection in Kentucky. In 1991, she was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel for her exemplary services to the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Mrs. Byerly is survived by her son, John, of Symsonia; her parents, Dorothy (nee Jackson) and Louis Papp, of Chagrin Falls; and her sister, Diane L. (Michael) Finn, of Moreland Hills. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Byerly. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mellon Center for M.S. Billie A. Cumber
Billie A. Cumber, 75, of Newbury, died May 31 2003 at her home. Born Sept. 13, 1927, in Arkansas, she lived in Newbury for the past 26 years, prior in Solon. A secretary at Erico Co. in Solon from 1971 to 1981, she enjoyed reading and was a member of Eastern Star in Chagrin Falls. Mrs. Cumber is survived by her husband of 26 years, William; sons, Eric Kus, of South Bend, Ind., and Steven (Debra) Kus, of Strongsville; daughter, Tina (Gregory) Barnauskas, of Concord; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held June 2, with burial in Munn Cemetery in Newbury.

Doris Emshoff
Doris Emshoff (nee Bollinger), 89, of Solon, died May 31 2003 at Stratford Commons Nursing Home, where she was a resident for the past year. Born Jan. 12, 1914, in Cleveland, she graduated from Charles F. Brush High School in South Euclid and worked as a teller bookkeeper for the South Euclid Savings and Loan Co., now Key. On July 16, 1938, she married William Emshoff, of Lyndhurst, and in 1953 they moved to Solon and founded Emshoff Excavating Inc. She retired in July 1993 after 40 years as secretary-treasurer of the company. Mrs. Emshoff is survived by her children, William (Lois), of Arizona, James (Margie), of Chicago, Joan (Carl Majeczky) Jorgenson, of Annapolis, Md., and Alan (Marilyn), Chris (Connie) and Mary (Robert) Meany, all of Solon; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a sister. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985 and her parents, Rudolph and Emily (nee Tyndall) Bollinger. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. June 6 at Advent Lutheran Church, 5525 Harper Road, Solon. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Solon. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. June 5 at Kindrich-McHugh Steinbauer Funeral Home, 33375 Bainbridge Road in Solon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Advent Lutheran Church or Hospice of the Western Reserve.

Jeanette C. Gebo
Jeanette C. Gebo (nee Brasch), 86, of Bainbridge Township, died May 30 2003 at University Hospitals Health System Geauga Regional Hospital. A housewife and homemaker, she is survived by her children, Celia (Jim) Makowski, of Bainbridge, and Wayne (Deborah) Gebo, of Brook Park; and granddaughter, Michelle. She was preceded in death by five brothers and a sister. Funeral services were held June 1, with a private interment.

Anna I. Gruzd
Anna Irene Gruzd, 78, of Chagrin Falls, died May 28 2003 of congestive heart failure at University Hospitals Health System Geauga Regional Hospital. Born Oct. 7, 1924, in Middlefield, she was a graduate of Middlefield High School and Dyke Business College. A former secretary for Central National Bank in Chagrin Falls, she enjoyed crocheting, gardening and cooking. She was a member of Brown Baggers of Chagrin Falls, AARP, and Ladies Auxiliary of Solon Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mrs. Gruzd is survived by her husband, Anthony L. Gruzd; daughters, Barbara J. Gruzd, of Cleveland, and Margaret Ann (Kenneth) Snyder, of Solon; grandchildren, Andrew Vance Snyder and Melissa Ann Synder, of Solon; and sisters, Ina Burger and Sunelma Teiberis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil Kiviniemi and Anna Mustalumpi. Funeral Mass was celebrated May 31 at St. Joan of Arc Church in Chagrin Falls. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Paul F. Gutmann
Paul F. Gutmann, 65, died May 1 2003 in Charlotte, N.C., as a result of peritonitas. Born July 4, 1937, in Cleveland, he attended Euclid schools. He received a bachelor of arts from Miami University of Ohio and an M.B.A. from Harvard-Zuric and was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Retired from Master Builders Co. after 20 years, he last served as senior vice president of international, where he traveled to over 50 countries and served on 12 international boards of directors. His entire career was in the Portland cement concrete and additives industries. He founded World Air Chemicals Co., of Cleveland, later sold to Solvay, of Brussels, Belgium. He also founded Perigin Chemicals, where he served as senior vice president at the time of his death. He also held a number of patents for concrete admixtures. Mr. Gutmann is survived by his son, Perry, of Prescott, Ariz.; daughter, Kelly Good, of Los Angeles; three grandchildren; and brother, Phillip (Barbara) Gutmann, of Moreland Hills. He was preceded in death by his parents, Doris and Lester Gutmann. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. June 12 at Garfield Memorial Methodist Church in Pepper Pike. Private burial will be in the family plot in Cortland.

Marilyn M. Harris
Marilyn Harris (nee Motz), 79, died May 22 2003. A 1941 graduate of Hathaway Brown School, she married John Langdon Harris on Aug. 18, 1945. Mrs. Harris was a member of the Junior League of Cleveland, the Country Club, Fairmount Presbyterian Church and a deacon at the First Presbyterian Church of Willoughby. A dedicated volunteer, she gave many hours to St. Luke's Hospital, Youth Enrichment Services and Cleveland Museum of Natural History, where she was a docent. She was a resident member of the board at Breckenridge Retirement Village and former president of the Country Club Garden Club. Her hobbies included golf, gardening, bridge, reading, cooking and traveling. Mrs. Harris is survived by her sons, John L. (Shelley Scott) Jr., of Augusta, Ga., William W. (Katherine Handel), of Fort Myers, Fla., and Robert M. (Mollie Micheau) Harris, of Oakland, Calif.; and daughter, Marilyn "Lynn" (Philip Craig) Ross, of Seattle, Wash. Other survivors include her grandchildren, Kelley (Matthew) Pickering, Kile, Ryan, Philip, Travis, Hillary, Kimberly (Kent) Ryskamp and Robert McCord Harris Jr. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Langdon Harris, the former president of Winnen Incinerator Co. in Bedford, whom she married on Aug. 18, 1945, in Riverdale, N.Y.; her son, Robert; sister, Jane Motz Sundberg; and her parents, Guy Warren and Florence Hoffman Motz. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. June 7 at the First Presbyterian Church of Willoughby. Mary C. Hauck
Sister Mary Clare Hauck, 76, of Munson, died May 28 2003 at the Health Care Center, Notre Dame Educational Center. Born Feb. 3, 1927, in Cleveland, the daughter of Leo A. and Bertha (nee Gleichauf) Hauck, she was a certified school counselor and history and business education teacher. She taught at Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin and other Cleveland-area high schools for over 12 years, then for 36 years ministered as a guidance counselor for high school students. Although she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1964, she remained active in education until 2000. She is survived by her sisters, Claire Repasky and Sister Mary Leo Hauck, and the congregation of Sisters of Notre Dame, with whom she shared her life for 55 years. Mass of Christian Burial was held May 30 at Notre Dame Educational Center, with burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Provincial Center Grounds in Munson. Dorothy A. Howell
Dorothy Ashworth Howell, 89, of Chester, died May 28 2003 at Blossom Hill Health Care Center in Huntsburg Township. Born Feb. 19, 1914, in Moundsville, W.Va., she resided in Chester since 1959. Mrs. Howell was an elementary school teacher in Moundsville and substitute teacher in the West Geauga School District for many years. She married Irvin "Stretch" Howell in Moundsville on Nov. 23, 1936. He preceded her in death June 23, 1991. A graduate of Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va., she was an active member of the Chesterland Baptist Church and the Moundsville Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school for over 40 years and served as a Deaconess for many years. Mrs. Howell is survived by her daughter, Jean (Alan) Chapman, of Chester; granddaughter, Roberta Chapman, of Chester; brother, Robert J. (Blanche) Ashworth, of Beckley, W.Va.; sister-in-law, Patricia Ashworth, of Beckley, W.Va.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, Robert J. and Darthula (nee Johnson) Ashworth; brothers, Harold, Charles and John Ashworth; and sister, Betty Fulkerson. Funeral services were held May 31, and burial was in Riverview Cemetery in Moundsville. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 7861 Crile Road, Concord 44077.

Grover Ramsey
Grover Ramsey, 81, of Moreland Hills, died May 24 2003 at Hospice House from congestive heart failure. Born April 4, 1922, in Peculiar, Mo., he was raised in Portland, Ore., and resided in Moreland Hills since 1963. A 1940 graduate of Jefferson High School in Portland, where he was editor of the school newspaper, he attended Oregon State College in 1941 and 1942. In 1943, he entered the Navy V-12 program at the University of Oklahoma, majoring in chemical engineering and graduating in 1944. He played center for the University of Oklahoma national championship basketball team in 1944. Mr. Ramsey entered naval officers training at Columbia University and was quartered on the USS Prairie State. He was chosen most outstanding athlete for which he was presented with the Navy sword. Commissioned an ensign in March 1945, he served as Lt.j.g. in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1950 and served during World War II on the destroyer USS O'Brian in the Pacific Fleet. Following his discharge, he attended Oregon State College and worked in the rubber industry in California, during which time he earned several patents. He joined B.F. Goodrich Chemical Co. in Cleveland and retired as director of marketing in 1981. Following retirement, he worked for SCORE and joined the International Executive Service Corps, working in Thailand, Guatemala and Honduras to help small rubber companies. A member of the American Chemical Society, Cheshire Cheese Club of Cleveland, Federated Church Men's Club and Western Reserve Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, he enjoyed golf, tennis, traveling and lunching with his many friends. Mr. Ramsey is survived by his wife of 58 years, DeVoe (nee Johnston), whom he married June 16, 1945, in Portland; daughters, Diana Davis, of Colorado, and Michele Hoffman, of Williamson, N.Y.; and five granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adeline and Walter Ramsey; and two brothers. Funeral services were held May 31 at the Federated Church in Chagrin Falls. Memorial contributions may be made to the Federated Church, 76 Bell St., Chagrin Falls 44022.
