Gizella Riboczi
Gizella Riboczi (nee Susnyak), 93, of Moreland Hills, died May 28 2003 under the care of her family in Solon from natural causes. Born in Kolto, Hungary, on July 13, 1909, she was naturalized as a citizen June 17, 1935, and settled in Cleveland. She married Daniel Riboczi on Sept. 22, 1936, and lived in Moreland Hills since 1945. Employed at Moreland Hills Village Hall under Police Chief Harold Crow, she loved family, gardening, flowers, animals and nature. Mrs. Riboczi is survived by her children, Grace (Martin) Sutter, of Burton, Caroline (John) Gersey, of Solon, and Daniel J., of Russell; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel; granddaughter, Rebecca; and siblings, Miklos and Anne. Funeral services were held May 31, and burial was in Highland Park Cemetery in Cleveland. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve.

Mary W. Richards
Mary W. Richards (nee Warwick), 92, died June 1 2003 at Milestones Assisted Care in Bainbridge. Born June 14, 1910, in Pocahontas County, W.Va., she was educated at New River State College, Marshall College and Davis-Elkins College, all in West Virginia, and Western Reserve University in Cleveland. A retired school teacher, she was a charter member of Chagrin Valley Herb Society and Ichivo School of Ikebana, Flower Arrangers Garden Club, Chagrin Valley Needlecraft Guild and Clown Caravan Clown Ministry. Her hobbies were flower arranging, dancing and gardening. Mrs. Richards is survived by her care givers, niece Roberta and Robert Ashe, and other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred H. Richards; sisters, Ruth L. Kerr, Sally W. Beale and Claire W. Nottingham; brother, Ralph N. Warwick; and parents, Jesse L. and Nancy Caroline (nee Cleek) Warwick. Funeral services were held June 3 at Bainbridge Community Church. Edward W. Welch
Edward W. "Jimmie" Welch, 90, of Chardon Township, died May 29 2003 at Geauga Regional Hospital. Born March 11, 1913, in Peckville, Pa., he resided in Chardon for over 70 years. A machinist for the former Addressograph-Multigraph for over 30 years, he retired in 1972. He then worked part time for the Mountain Glen Farm in Chardon Township for 15 years. He married Mildred Peck on June 20, 1939, in Willoughby. A veteran of U.S. Army during World War II, he served in the European Theater. He was a private first class in the 20th Field Hospital from 1943 to 1946. Mr. Welch was a graduate of the Blakely High School, where he was a track star and won several medals for his sprinting abilities. A member of the former Chardon Lodge 93 F&AM and Chardon United Methodist Church, he enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles and worked tirelessly at gardening and keeping his yard well groomed. He enjoyed being outdoors. Mr. Welch is survived by his wife; daughters, Diane (William) Coleman, of Manassas, Va., and Cynthia (Ronald) Andrasi, of Sarasota, Fla.; son, Alan (Suzanne) Welch, of Greensburg, Pa.; grandchildren, Tina (Pete) Lahaye, of Sidney, Maine, Cheryl (Ronald) Uglow, of Clarksville, Tenn., and William (Stephanie) Coleman III, of Suffolk, Va.; great-grandchildren, Trent Uglow and Megan and Ethan Lahaye; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank R. and Ida Bella (nee Davis) Welch; two brothers and three sisters. Funeral services were held June 3. Anthony Amentini
Anthony Amentini, 88, of Cupertino, Calif., and formerly of Solon, died Oct. 17 2003 at his home after a brief illness. Born in Cleveland in 1915, he attended John Adams High School and worked in the family business during the Depression. He married Mary LoCastro in 1939. During World War II, he was a jet aircraft mechanic at NACA (now NASA). In 1945, he opened Amentini Motors on Miles Avenue in Cleveland with his three brothers. The dealership was the first Willys franchise in the area and grew to be the largest Jeep dealership in Ohio. In the 1930s, he rode his motorcycle from Cleveland to the Solon Airport on SOM Center Road to enjoy light airplane flying. He moved to California in 1974 and was a principal in an AMC/Mazda dealership in Napa, retiring in 1978. During retirement, he played golf weekly until his passing. Mr. Amentini is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Salvatrice (Glen) Wilcox, Antoinette (Robert) Araldi and Jean Amentini, of Solon; four granddaughters and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Saratoga, Calif., with burial at the Los Gatos Memorial Park.

Anthony J. Costello
Anthony J. Costello, 87, of Bainbridge, died Nov. 3 2003 at Wyant Woods Care Center after a short illness. Born Nov. 14, 1916, in Cleveland, he was retired from Ford Motor Co. Mr. Costello is survived by his daughters, Karen C. Beal and Claudia Lewis; and granddaughters, Lisa Lewis Jenkins, Jennifer Piccione and Beth Lewis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma J. Costello; and his parents, Philomena Giammarino and Vincenzo Castellano. Funeral Mass was celebrated Nov. 7 at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Louis E. Endle
Louis E. Endle, 98, a longtime resident of Moreland Hills, died Oct. 30 2003 at Fairmount Health Center in Breckenridge Village in Willoughby. Born Feb. 23, 1905, in Elyria, he spent five years at the Knights of Pythias Children's Home in Springfield. Mr. Endle retired from Ohio Bell Telephone Co. after 40 years, retiring as a supervisor. A 32nd-degree Mason, he was very active in Masons and a life member of Acacia Lodge and held memberships in the Scottish Rite, Al Sirat Grotto, Eastern Star, Brown Baggers for retired Masons, Garfield Memorial Methodist Church and Telephone Pioneers. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Toys for Tots. Mr. Endle is survived by his children, Marcia (John) Sutcliffe, of South Russell, and Dale (Jean) Endle, of Russell; grandchildren, Betsy Sutcliffe Mogk, of Grosse Pointe, Mich., Jennifer Sutcliffe Conway, of Lincolnshire, Ill., Katy Endle, of Seattle, and Kimberly Endle Saccardi, of Rochester, N.Y.; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Anna May (nee Kron); and parents, Andrew J. and Hattie L. (nee Geipel) Endle. A memorial service was held Nov. 3 at Lyons Memorial Chapel at Breckenridge Village. Interment was at Acacia Memorial Park. Thomas T. Herron
Thomas Terence "T.T." Herron, 72, of Aurora, died Nov. 7 2003 in Solon from heart failure. Born June 18, 1931, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, he graduated from Model School of Belfast and attended the Belfast School of Technology. Mr. Herron was a retired manager of information services at Eaton Corp. An avid golfer and reader, he played field hockey and cricket in his youth. Mr. Herron is survived by his wife, Norma; sons, Michael (Donna), of Moorpark, Calif., and David (Sally) Herron, of Oxnard, Calif.; daughters, Lynn (Greg) Deering, of Bainbridge, and Kelly (Mark) Thomas, of Holland, Mich.; grandchildren, Mike, Lacey and Christopher Herron, all of California, Patrick and John Deering, of Bainbridge, and Benjamin and Kirsten Thomas, of Michigan. Other survivors include his brothers, the Rev. Walter and Jack, both of Northern Ireland, and the Rev. Ernest Herron, of Canada; and sister, Margaret Mattison, of Australia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Agnes Herron; and sister, Nan Chapman. Memorial services were held at Lord of Life Lutheran Church. Agnes P. Hunter
Agnes P. Hunter, 90, of Chagrin Falls, died Nov. 4 2003 in Aurora. Born Aug. 2, 1913, in Sayville, N.Y., she was a graduate of Adelphia College, Long Island, N.Y., and Mount Sinai School of Nursing in New York City. A registered nurse and school nurse teacher in Sayville, she was active in Elderlife of Chagrin Falls. She was a former Girl Scout leader and hospital volunteer. Mrs. Hunter is survived by her daughter, Roxanne Hunter (Jon Fitzpatrick), of Bainbridge; son, Edgar J. Hunter III, of Albuquerque, N.M.; grandchildren, Katherine (Thomas G.), George (Beckie) and James (Julia) McGonagle, Mary (Mark) Rominger, and Sarah and Racheal Hunter; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar J. Hunter; and parents, Madeline and Allyn Robinson. Private services were held. Donald S. Leech
Donald S. Leech, 76, formerly of Solon, died Nov. 3 2003 at Arden Courts in Bainbridge. Born and raised in Bedford, he graduated from Bedford High School in 1945. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he settled in Solon and retired from General Electric in 1987. Mr. Leech is survived by his daughters, Kristen (Gary) Funkhouser and Amy (Charlie) Kingzett; and grandsons, Trevor Schneck and Devon Marek. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mildred Leech; and sister, Frances.

Mary L. Lyman
Mary Lou Lyman, 75, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., died Nov. 7 2003 at her home from a lengthy illness. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, shrimping and being with family and friends. Mrs. Lyman is survived by her husband of 56 years, Maurice; daughter, Debra A. (Philip) Berg, of Oak Hill; sons, Terry L. (Kathleen), of Palm Beach Gardens, and Gregory P. (Miriam), of New Smyrna Beach; sister, Donna Friedrich, of Ohio; grandchildren, Stacey Tufano, Ryan, Dylan (Becky), Kerry and Jared Lyman and Chrystal (James) Wharton; and two great-grandchildren, Trevor Tufano and Bree-Anna Wharton. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers and one sister. Memorial services will be held Nov. 16 at Union United Church of Christ in Edgewater, Fla., where she was a member. Robert A. Newberry
Robert A. Newberry, 79, of Munson Township, died Nov. 10 2003 at his home. Born Nov. 19, 1923, in Claridon, he was a lifelong Geauga County resident and 1941 graduate of Chardon High School. He married Waveleen J. Mayle on Sept. 29, 1959, in Chardon. She preceded him in death on Nov. 2. A veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, he served in the American and European theaters and was a member of the former Chardon Lodge No. 93 F&AM. A longtime member of the Claridon Congregational Church, he served as a deacon and a was a member of the choir. Mr. Newberry enjoyed woodworking, making furniture, toy chests and a table currently housed in the Claridon Congregational Church. For many years, he painted signs for local businesses, churches and private homes. He is survived by his daughters, Cynthia (Ralph) Cummings, of Willoughby Hills, and Paula (Joe) Mergl, of Eastlake; grandchildren, Tammy (Craig) Ash, of Painesville, Soonarie, of Willoughby, and Todd Lochan, of Euclid, and Joseph and Lisa Marie Mergl, of Eastlake; great-granddaughter, Paige Ash; and brother, Stanley (Elizabeth) Newberry, of Florida. In addition to the recent passing of his wife, Waveleen; he was preceded in death by his parents, Edward L. and Della (nee Warriner) Newberry. Funeral services were held Nov. 12. Mindy Nichols
Mindy Nichols (nee Janoch), 48, of Kalispell, Mont., and formerly of Russell, was fatally injured Nov. 8 2003 while operating a tractor near her home. The 1973 graduate of West Geauga High School completed her college studies at Skidmore College and Miami University. Owner of Mindy Nichols Interior Design, she was an avid fan of the outdoors. She owned three horses and had a lifelong passion for riding, recently having received accolades in team penning competitions in Kalispell, Mont. Ms. Nichols is survived by her mother, Nancy Janoch, of Russell; brothers, Robert (Jeanne), of Westford, Mass., and John (Kelly) Janoch, of Chagrin Falls; and nephews and nieces, Ryan, Drew and Alyssa Janoch, of Westford, Mass., and Megan and Evan Janoch, of Chagrin Falls. A local private service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Therapeutic Riding Center or Rescue Village.

Jane M. Ritondaro
Jane M. Ritondaro, 43, of Chardon, died Nov. 11 2003 at her home. A 1978 graduate of Chardon High School, she attended the Wilma Boyd School in Pennsylvania and was a graduate of Lakeland Community College. She worked for Auto Train in Washington, D.C., for three years and at Geauga Regional Hospital for 19 years. Mrs. Ritondaro was a licensed funeral director for 15 years and served as manager of the Ritondaro Funeral Home for the past three years. She is survived by her parents, John and Maggie Ritondaro; brothers, Sam (Theresa) and Anthony Ritondaro; nephew, Justin; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Nov. 14 at St. Mary's Church, 401 North St., Chardon. Family will receive friends at the church two hours prior to the Mass. Mina L. Sanders
Mina L. "Lee" Sanders (nee Mayhugh), 82, of Chardon, died Nov. 10 2003 at Holly Hill Nursing Home in Newbury. Born March 25, 1921, in Livingston County, Ky., she resided in Chardon since 1998 and previously in Garrettsville. Ms. Sanders was a cook at the former Red Raider Camp in Russell Township then at Hamlet Manor in Chagrin Falls, retiring in 1985. She married Raymond Lee Sanders in Salem, Ky., on Oct. 12, 1939. He preceded her in death Jan. 4, 2001. A member of the Doers of the Word Baptist Church in Newbury, she enjoyed cooking, vegetable and floral gardening and babysitting her grandchildren. Mrs. Sanders is survived by her daughters, Marjorie L. (Joe) Walker, of Mentor, JoAnne (Alfred) Barbian, of Willowick, and Deborah R. (Don) Tarbell, of Chardon; sons, William R. (Darlene), of Chester, Ernest W. (Ellen), of Russell, Raymond J. (Bonnie), of Chardon, David F. (Barbara), of Philomath, Ore., and James R. (Deborah) Sanders, of Cleveland Heights; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Hallie Jo Dunning and Irene Cosby, and her twin sister, Ina Mayhugh, all of Paducah, Ky.; and brother, Boyd Mayhugh, of Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents, William E. and Ida E. (nee Duncan) Mayhugh; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and brothers, Marvin, Bill, Robert and Lloyd Mayhugh. Wilhelmine E. Symes
Wilhelmine Emma "Billie" Symes (nee Millikin), 98, of Tempe, Ariz., and formerly of Orange, Chagrin Falls and Mayfield Heights, died Nov. 7 2003 following causes incident to age. Born premature on Aug. 24, 1905, in Courtright, Ontario, Canada, she was kept alive from the heat of the coal stove in the kitchen, cradled in a shoe box. Nicknamed "Billie," her family moved to Cleveland when she was 3 years old. As a teen, she spent summers with her father and brother on ore carriers on the Great Lakes. Following graduation in 1924 from Shaw High School, she was a receptionist for a doctor's office until her marriage to Alfred Noble Symes on March 24, 1928, in St. Paul's Episcopal Church in East Cleveland. He preceded her in death in 1968. They moved to Orange, where her husband served as a councilman and represented the area on the Rationing Board during World War II. She served as his assistant, registering local residents for free coupons for food. Following residencies in Chagrin Falls and Mayfield Heights, she moved to Salt Lake City in 1982. Her last residence was at Carestone Assisted Living Center in Tempe, Ariz. A former member of Chagrin Falls Methodist Church, where she served as president of the Women's Society of Christian Service in the mid-50s, she also served as secretary for missions for the Methodist Cleveland District. She was a member of Golden Rule Chapter No. 442 Order of Eastern Star and served as secretary for three years. She also served as first president of the Noble Road Garden Club of Cleveland Heights in the '30s and was given an honorary membership in 1957. She is survived by her daughter, Janette (Emerson) Best, of Phoenix; grandchildren, Susan B. (Bill) Donovan, of Gilbert, Ariz., Kevin (Kathi), of Spokane, Wash., and Mark (Kathy) Best, of Twinsburg; and great-grandchildren, Adam, Noah and Paisley, of Spokane, and Sarah, Andrew and D.J. (Daniel), of Twinsburg. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, William John Milliken and Emma Etta Ross. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 15 at Stroud-Lawrence Funeral Home in Chagrin Falls. Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service. Zbig Z. Zivny
Zbig Z. Zivny, 86, of Painesville, died Nov. 3 2003 at Chardon Health Care Center. Born Dec. 8, 1918, in Cleveland, he lived in Moreland Hills before moving to Painesville 40 years ago. He married Lillian Doubrava in Cleveland in 1941. She preceded him in death in 2000. The owner-operator of Purchasing Inc., selling to the rubber and automotive industries, he was very creative and enjoyed inventing things. He played tennis and golf and loved to dance. A member of Temple Lodge No. 28 F&AM in Painesville and the Al Koran Shrine in Cleveland, he also was active in the Clown Unit for many years. Mr. Zivny is survived by his daughter, Bonnie, of Healdsburg, Calif.; grandchildren, Carlisle Yuill-Thornton, of Healdsburg, and Mark and Paul (Diane) Swencki, of Chardon; great-grandchildren, Amelia and Clayton Swencki, of Chardon; and son-in-law, Ron Swencki, of Chardon. In addition to his wife, Lillian (nee Doubrava), he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathleen, just a few weeks ago, after she spent eight years taking care of her parents. Marian R. Beattie
Marian R. Beattie, of Chagrin Falls, died Dec. 2 2003 at her home. Born April 27, 1928, in Cleveland, she moved to Chagrin Falls in 1930. A 1946 graduate of Chagrin Falls High School and 1950 graduate of Wittenberg University in Springfield, she married Hugh V. Beattie on Oct. 13, 1951. Mrs. Beattie is survived by her sons, Hugh A. (Vicki), of Naperville, Ill., David L., of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Daniel G. (Genevieve) Beattie, of Parchment, Mich.; grandchildren, Stephanie, Rachel, Marcus and Andrea; and her sister, Betty (Stoneman) Lillie, of Solon. A memorial service was held Dec. 9.
