Dorothy P. "Dottie" Fray, 47, Scio, Ohio, died Tuesday, February 12, 2002 at her home.
She was born August 18, 1954 in East Canton, Ohio, a daughter of the late Ora and Mary Lucille Foutty Jones.
She was a Laborer for D.L.H. in Carrollton and was formerly a Nurses Aid at the Carroll Health Center and Sunnyslope Retirement Center.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two infant brothers, Charles and Rickey Lee Jones.
Surviving are her husband, Nick Fray; one son, Nicholas Fray and his wife, Kim, of Scio; one daughter, Peggy Fray of Scio; four grandchildren, Yvonne and Kayla Fray, Destiny Bland and Drake Fray; 4 brothers, Keith Jones of Magnolia, George Jones of Augusta, Kenny Jones of Scio and Dale Jones of Minerva; 6 sisters, Shirley Foehrenbach of Canton, Deloris Jean Kramer of Brewster, Velma Monk of Minerva and Frances Grogg of Scio.

Darl T. "Wheelwrench" Mallarnee, 55, Cadiz, OH, died Tues., Feb. 5, 2002 at Trinity Medical Center, West, Steubenville, OH. He was born Oct. 20, 1946 in Freeport, OH, the son of the late Glenn Thurman Mallarnee and Ruth McClintock Mallarnee.
He was a truck driver having worked for Cramblett Trucking.
He was a Marine Veteran of the Viet Nam Era and a member of Hopedale American Legion.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Mallarnee.
Surviving are his wife, Tonya Trokel Mallarnee; 1 son, Jeff Mallarnee, Dillonvale, OH; 1 grandson, Jeff Mallarnee, Dillonvale, OH; 1 brother, Paul Mallarnee, Freeport, OH.

Nora Kathleen "Kate" Blankenship, 85, Cadiz, died Friday, May 24, at Harrison Community Hospital, Cadiz. Kate was born March 17, 1917 in Jewett, Ohio a son of the late George D. and Frances Mary Conway Lucas.
She was Lutheran by faith and a retired cook having worked at the Willow Restaraunt and former Airport Restaraunt. She also had worked at the former Scio Pottery Company.
She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Camden Blankenship in December of 1987 and a daughter, Mary Ann Sowers DiGenova.
She is survived by 2 sons: Wayne Blankenship of Cadiz and Sam Carrouthers of Breeman, Indiana; 3 daughters: Linna Poole of Wintersville, Barbara Shannon and Candy Sickle both of Cadiz; 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; and a sister, Marguerite Flowers.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with Pastor Ted Davis officiating.
Burial follows at Fairview Cemetery, Jewett, Ohio.

Ada C. VanFossen, 83, of Cadiz, died Friday, May 17, 2002 at her home.She was born October 15, 1918 in Belmont County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Clarence Todd and the late Dora Murphy Todd Luyster.ÝÝ
She was a former Volunteer at Harrison Community Hospital, Cadiz.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel "Ben" VanFossen in 1993 and her stepfather, Edwin Luyster.

Henry "Hank" Sall, 74, of Cadiz, Ohio, formerly of Annapolis, Ohio, died Friday, July 19, 2002 at Harrison Community Hosptial, Cadiz.He was born May 20, 1928 in Belmont County, Ohio, a son of the late Andrew and Anna Sall.
He was a retired teacher at Steubenville Big Red High School and a retired Carptenter for Local 186 in Steubenville.He was a former member of Red Oaks Country Club, Cadiz Country Club, the American Legion and the Retired Teacher Association.He was an Air Force Veteran who participated in the Berlin Airlift.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Shuman Sall in 1977; 6 brothers, John, Andy, Joe, Ed, Walter and Tom Sall; and one sister, Elizabeth Rybkoski.

Raymond A. "Mac" McConnell, 89, lifelong resident of New Athens, died Saturday, January 4, at the Harrison County Home, Cadiz. Mac was born August 28, 1913 in New Athens a son of the late George C. and Laura Minnie McConnell.
Mac was a retired Union Carpenter and Protestant by faith.
He was preceded in death by a son, Sonny McConnell; a daughter, Laura Fryer; and a brother, Adam McConnell.
Mac is survived by 2 sons: Lonnie Burroughs of New Athens and Kevin McConnell of Scio; 3 daughters: Karen Garrett of Lafferty; and Sue Kanopsic and Andrea Swann both of New Athens; 24 Grandchildren; 36 Great Grandchildren; and 5 Great Great Grandchildren.

Donald Norris
Donald Norris, 72, of Cadiz, Ohio died Thursday, December 26, 2002 at Harrison Community Hospital, Cadiz. He was a loving father and husband, and will be missed by all. He was born August 18, 1930 in Woodsfield, Ohio, a son of the late Forrest and Ada Ullman Norris.
He was a former coal miner with R. & F. Coal Co., and with the Nelms Mine at Y. & O. Coal Co., after which he operated Don's Service Station in Cadiz for 27 years. He was a Cadiz Township Trustee for 24 years and servced on the Cadiz Union Cemetery Board.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Harold and Denzel Norris and 2 sisters, Marie Hoskinson and Evelyn Rothenbuhler.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Dorothy Blake Norris; 2 daughters, Linda and her husband, Kenneth Baker of Cadiz and Donna and her husband, Ralph Crothers of Cadiz; 5 loving grandchildren: Jody, Melissa, Stacy, Scott and Michelle; 1 sister, Beverly McRae of Howard, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Lucille Huntsman Houze, 85, of Cadiz, Ohio, died Friday, December 27, 2002 at the Harrison County Home, Cadiz. She was born May 6, 1917 in Deersville, Ohio, a daughter of the late G. Howard and Ida L. Freeburn Smith.
She was a member of the Asbury Chapel United Methodist Church near Cadiz and the Unionport Chapter 360, Order of the Eastern Star. She was a retired Nurses Aide at the Harrison County Home.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, W. Doyle Huntsman in 1969 (They married June 26, 1940.); 1 brother, J. Walter Smith; and 1 sister, Mazie M. Conrad.
Surviving are a daughter, Marcia and her husband, William Merritt of Piedmont, Ohio; 2 sons, Thomas Huntsman and Robert Huntsman and his wife, Maurine (nee Leeser) all of Cadiz; 9 grandchildren, Timothy Fenstamaker, Lisa Bardall, Kenneth Fenstamaker, William Huntsman, Brenda Shriver, Brent Huntsman, Michael Huntsman, Mark Huntsman and Christie Positano; 11 great grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law, Mary Frances Smith and Dorothy Huntsman; several nieces and nephews.

Emery Gene DeVault, 76, of Conover, North Carolina, formerly of Cadiz, Ohio, died Thursday, February 6, 2003 at Catawba Valley Medical Center, Conover, North Carolina. He was born February 7, 1926 in Bridgeport, Ohio, a son of the late Clyde F. and Nellie Oliver DeVault.
He was a member of the East Warren Street Church of Christ in Cadiz, and was a retired Machinist for the former Hanna Coal Company in Cadiz. He was Marine Corps Veteran of World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
Surviving are his wife, Nellie Grace McKibben DeVault; a daughter, Patricia and her husband Mark Kidd of Conover, NC; two grandsons, Jonathan Kidd and Gregory Kidd; and two great grandsons, Justin Kidd and Joshua Kidd.

Keith Allen Barnhart, 38, of Columbus, formerly of Cadiz, died Thursday, February 6, 2003 at his home in Columbus. He was born July 26, 1964 in Wheeling, West Virginia, a son of Ted Barnhart of Zanesville, Ohio and the late Penny Griffiths Barnhart.
He was an employee of Gilson Construction Co. in Columbus and an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Nascar driver, Dale Earnhart.
Surviving are a brother Sam Barnhart of Johnson City, Tennessee; 2 sisters, Debra Evans of Columbus and Shelly Whitman of Columbus; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Commella was a homemaker and a member of the Pleasant Grove Apostolic Church.
She was preceded in death in addition to her parents, by her husband John Elmer Cutshall in 1998; 2 sisters: Cora Mull and Cleoda Maxwell Bennett; and 3 brothers: Alvin, Clarence, and Art McKinney.

Clinton Robert Smith, 86, Wooster, formerly of Cadiz, died Thursday, January 30, at his home in Wooster, Ohio. He was born October 5, 1916 in Mt. Plesant, Ohio a son of the late Emmett Smith and Nora Waller Smith.
Mr. Smith was a member and Bishop at the Hands of Grace United Pentecostal Church in Wooster and also a member of Harrison Hills United Pentecostal Church, Jewett. He was a retired shovel operator for Consolidation Coal Company in Cadiz.
He was preceded in death in additon to his parents by his wife, Muriel McMannis Smith in 2001; 4 brothers: Martin, Joseph, Emmett, and Clarence Smith; and 2 sisters: Cora Reams and Eunice Reams.
Surviving are a son, Robert Smith and his wife Jeri of Columbus; a daughter, Vivian Pickering and her husband Thomas of Evansville, Indiana; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Smith of Harrisville, Ohio.

Rev. Dr. Paul W. O. Heist
Rev. Dr. Paul W. O. Heist, 98, of Cadiz, Ohio, formerly of Martins Ferry, Ohio and Quakertown, PA., died Wednesday, April 23, 2003 at Harrison Community Hospital, Cadiz. He was born July 8, 1904, in Scranton, PA, a son of the late William S. And Carrie Ozias Heist.
Rev. Heist was named the Valedictorian of the class of 1926 at Muhlenburg College in Allentown, PA. He also was graduated from the Philadelphia Seminary and received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Thiel College. He was first called as associate pastor of Zion Lutheran Church in Johnstown, PA. Rev. Heist served the majority of his ministry at St. John's Lutheran Church in Martins Ferry, Ohio, where he was pastor for forty one years. He served as chairman of the Ministerial Examining Committee of the former Pittsburgh Synod and was Parliamentarian and member of the Executive Committee of the Ohio Synod of the Lutheran Church in America. Following his retirement, he returned to Eastern Pennsylvania, where he was a visitation pastor for Trinity Lutheran Church in Perkasie and Trinity Lutheran Church in Quakertown, PA. In recent years, he was an active participant in a Bible study group at the Presbyterian Church of Cadiz.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Snyder Heist in 1994. Surviving are his daughter Nancy and her husband, Jonathan Kirkland, and two grandchildren, Andrew Wilson Kirkland and Carolyn Leigh Kirkland, all of Cadiz.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Martins Ferry. Rev. Peter Pilger and Rev. Dr. William Hudson will officiate.

Abigail L. "Abby" Dunfee
Abigail L. "Abby" Dunfee, 23, Cadiz, died Friday, April 25 at Harrison Community Hospital, Cadiz. Abby was born November 5, 1979 in Wheeling, West Virginia a daughter of Timothy R. and Amie White Dunfee.
Abby's smile brightened the Harrison Community Hospital where she enjoyed working. Her love of animals made her a natural dog handler and an honorary member of the St. Clairsville, Ohio Kennel Club. Abby was a sincere and whole hearted person and gave a piece of her heart in everything she took part in and we will all miss her. Abby was a 2000 graduate of Harrison Centeral High School in Cadiz and a member of ST. Teresa Catholic Church in Cadiz.
Abby was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Paul Dunfee; paternal step-grandfather, Victor Duve; and maternal grandparents, Jermome "Red" and Anne White.
Abby is survived in addition to her parents by a brother, Timmy Dunfee and his wife Andrienne of Crawfordville, Florida; and her paternal grandmother, Virginia Dunfee Duve of Cadiz.

She was born May 29, 1915 in Shadyside, Ohio a daughter of the late Lewis and Ada Perkins Warner.
She was a retired Registerd Nurse having worked at Martins Ferry, Dennison and St. Johns Hospitals. She was a Catholic.
She was preceded in death by both of her husbands: Donald Warrington and Edward Bach; parents, a brother Vernon Warner, and a sister Hazel Warner.
She is survived by a son Richard "Buddy' Warrington of Minerva; a daughter, Judy Spiert of Massillon, Ohio; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and a sister, Gladys Lowther of Phoenix, Arizona.

Martha Lou Spurrier Thompson, 77, of Jewett, OH, formerly of Cadiz and Pleasant City, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, after a long battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 28, 1926 in Pleasant City, Ohio, a daughter of the late John O. and Mildred Hoy Spurrier.
She was a member of the E. Warren St. Church of Christ in Cadiz, and was a retired Telephone Operator with GTE in Cadiz.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Richards, and by 2 infant sisters and an infant brother.
Surviving are her husband, Lowell Thompson of Carrollton, formerly of Jewett; one sister, Dorothea and her husband, James Patterson of Columbus (with whom Martha resided for the past nine months); one brother, Reuben C. and his wife, Ivey Spurrier of Easton, PA; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews; many relatives and very good friends.

Kimberly Evon Bishop, 19, Freeport, Ohio, formerly of Cadiz, died Monday, January 26, 2004 as the result of an automobile accident.
Kim was born May 3, 1984 in Steubenville, Ohio a daughter of John and Donna Jenkins Bishop of Freeport, Ohio.
Kim attended the Uhrichsville Christian Temple; she was FFA Queen; Husky and Cardinal Mat Stat. She wrote poetry; was active in Teen Bible Quizzing; was a former youth leader at the Cadiz Church of the Nazarene; a sales clerk at JC Penny; and a operator at Southern Medical Center, Cambridge.
Her fiancé Luke Mallernee died in the same automobile accident.
She is survived by her parents; 3 brothers: John Steven Bishop of Chicago, Ill., Brad and Bill Bryant both of the home; a sister, Heather Christine Bishop of Carrollton; and her maternal grandmother, Ruth Jenkins of Cadiz.

Ernest A. "Ernie" Hardwick
June 13, 1939 - January 24, 2004
Ernest A. "Ernie" Hardwick, 64, of Cadiz, died Saturday, January 24, 2004 at Harrison Community Hospital, Cadiz. He was born June 13, 1939 in New Cumberland, WV, a son of the late Ernest Wilbur and Alice Helene Boyles Hardwick.
He was an associate member of St. James A.M.E. Church in Cadiz and was a retired employee of the Village of Cadiz, Water Department. He was a Sports Writer for the Harrison News-Herald, a member of the Cadiz Boosters Club and the Harrison Central Boosters Club. He was named Cadiz Booster of the Year in 1988. Ernie was well known throughout the area for his involvement in sports. He coached Biddy League Football, Women's Softball and Basketball, and umpired Softball and Baseball.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Hardwick.
Surviving are his wife, Gwen Brooks Hardwick; 4 sons, Brian and his wife, Lori and their daughter Jessica, all of Pittsburgh; Damon and his wife, Latonya; Shawn and Collin, all of Cadiz; 5 grandchildren, Kayla, Alysia, Kelsey, Christopher and Reanne; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Neva E. Cope, 91, of Cadiz, died Friday, January 23, 2004 at Harrison Community Hospital, Cadiz. She was born January 25, 1912 in Cadiz, a daughter of the late Harry and Florence Keesey Milliken.
She was a member of the First Church of God of Cadiz and a former member of the Cadiz Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Kenneth Cope in 1988, and by two brothers, Allen (Scott) Milliken and John Milliken.
Surviving are a son David Cope of Columbus; two daughters, Nancy Thompson of Cadiz and Doris Harris of Canal Fulton; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.
Friends may call Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz, Ohio, where funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Rev. Craig Haney will officiate. Interment will be in Cadiz Union Cemetery.

Joye Avalyn Huntsman, 72, of Cadiz, formerly of Norton, Ohio, died Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at the Carriage Inn of Cadiz. She was born July 16, 1931, in Manchester, Ohio, a daughter of the late Melvin M. and Dolly A. Smith Young.
She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Jewett, and was a former Waitress, Printer and Home Health Aid.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Wilbur Eugene Gray; her second husband, Harry F. Huntsman; and a son, Garry Allen Gray.
Surviving are three sons, Terry Dean Gray of Tucson, Randy Eugene Gray of Barberton, and Rick Gray of Cadiz; 12 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; a sister, Beulah V. "Boots" Young of Rochester, MN; 4 step children, Dean Huntsman, Thelma Huntsman, Dale Vacha, Karry Huntsman; and 5 step grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday, January 26, 2004 at 9:00 a.m. at the Greenlawn Memorial Park Chapel, Barberton, Ohio with Rev. Fr. Richard Burchell officiating.

Grace Warner Warrington Bach, 89, Bowerston, formerly of Cadiz and Nokomis, Florida, died Saturday, January 17, at Sunnyslope Retirement Center, Bowerston.
She was born May 29, 1915 in Shadyside, Ohio a daughter of the late Lewis and Ada Perkins Warner.
She was a retired Registerd Nurse having worked at Martins Ferry, Dennison and St. Johns Hospitals. She was a Catholic.
She was preceded in death by both of her husbands: Donald Warrington and Edward Bach; parents, a brother Vernon Warner, and a sister Hazel Warner.
She is survived by a son Richard "Buddy' Warrington of Minerva; a daughter, Judy Spiert of Massillon, Ohio; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and a sister, Gladys Lowther of Phoenix, Arizona.

Robert Isaiha Williamson, 11 month old son of Randal Williamson and Crystal Andears Burkhart both of Cadiz, died Friday, January 16 at Harrison Community Hospital, Cadiz.
He was born January 21, 2003 in Martins Ferry, Ohio.
He is survived in addition to his parents; by his maternal grandparents: Conrad Andears of Jewett and Sharon Andears of Cadiz; paternal grandparents: Randal and Sharon Williamson of Cadiz; 2 brothers: Dillon Burkhart and Cristian Andears both of the home; great grandmother, Ann Sable of Cadiz; 2 uncles: Bill Andears and Bob Andears both of Uhrichsville; 2 aunts: Dawn Andears of Jewett and Analynn Williamson of Cadiz; several great aunts and great uncles.

Martha Lou Spurrier Thompson, 77, of Jewett, OH, formerly of Cadiz and Pleasant City, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, after a long battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 28, 1926 in Pleasant City, Ohio, a daughter of the late John O. and Mildred Hoy Spurrier.
She was a member of the E. Warren St. Church of Christ in Cadiz, and was a retired Telephone Operator with GTE in Cadiz.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Richards, and by 2 infant sisters and an infant brother.
Surviving are her husband, Lowell Thompson of Carrollton, formerly of Jewett; one sister, Dorothea and her husband, James Patterson of Columbus (with whom Martha resided for the past nine months); one brother, Reuben C. and his wife, Ivey Spurrier of Easton, PA; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews; many relatives and very good friends.
