William St. Clair
William Andrew St. Clair, 72, of Leavittsburg, died Friday, April 6, 2001, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren, of heart failure.
Born Jan. 13, 1929, in Warren, he was the son of Raymond R. and Emma (Little) St. Clair. He lived in Leavittsburg for more than 50 years, moving there from Warren.
Mr. St. Clair was a truck driver for Motor Express Trucking for more than 43 years, until he retired in 1989.
His interests included fishing, woodworking and conversation.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha Irene (Hartman); sons, Russell of Leavittsburg and William (Bill) of Southington; daughter, Brenda Crawford of Niles; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, John (Jack) St.Clair of Cortland. His son, Vernon; brothers, Robert, Thomas and Larry; and sister, Nancy Zupan, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the First Church of God in Newton Falls where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park.

Ruth Brunelle
Ruth E. (Wickline) Brunelle, 69, of Green died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Akron General Medical Center.
Born Aug. 7, 1931, in West Carrollton, she lived in Mantua before moving to Green.
Mrs. Brunelle was a member of the Hillwood Chapel and a devoted follower of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Norman L. Brunelle Sr.; sons Norman L. Jr. (Rebecca) of Alabama and David E. (Carole) of Stow; daughter, Cindy (Paul) Bratanov of Green; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and brothers, Robert E. and James E. Wickline.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Schermeser Funeral Home, 600 East Turkeyfoot Lake Road (Rt. 619) in Akron. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Hillwood Chapel, 4824 S. Arlington Road in Green, with the Rev. Rufus Hofelt II officiating.

Helen Mary Trivelli
Helen Mary Trivelli, 86, of Ravenna, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna following a long illness.
Born Dec. 22, 1914, in Newell, Pa., she was the daughter of Dominick and Carmilla (Bianci) Liberati. She had lived in the Ravenna area since 1929.
Mrs. Trivelli worked at the Brown Derby in Kent and retired in 1988 from Elite Restaurant in Ravenna.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna.
Survivors include her sons, Henry (Christine) and John (Rosemary) both of Ravenna, eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Armando Colello of Tallmadge; sisters, Lena Chuifo of Ravenna, Josephine Bowers of Brimfield, Elizabeth Elio of Peninsula, Loretta Flood of Mentor and Edith Fiocca of Akron. Her husband, Peter, died in 1990. An infant daughter, Clara; brothers, Dominick and Tony; and sisters Margaret, Louise, Susan and Florence, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna, with Msgr. Robert Sabatino officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Ravenna.

Sister M. Therese Clouser
Sister M. Therese Clouser, 91, who was superior and principal at Immaculate Conception School in Ravenna, died Monday, April 9, 2001 at Our Lady of the Elms Infirmary in Akron.
Born Martha Clouser, Sister Therese was in the 66th year of her religious profession in the Sisters of St. Dominic of Akron.
She served at Immaculate Conception from 1955 to 1960. She also taught at several schools in the Akron and Youngstown areas, including St. Paul School in Akron, where she served as principal from 1960 to 1966 and from 1972 to 1974. She spent several years at St. Augustine School in Barberton before returning to Our Lady of the Elms, where she was a librarian at the high school until she retired in 1995.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today, with a wake service at 4 p.m., at Our Lady of the Elms Convent, 1230 W. Market St., Akron, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron. Hummel Funeral Home in Akron handled arrangements.

Raymond J. Koran
Raymond J. Koran, 71, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., a former Portage area resident, died Sunday, March 25, 2001.
Mr. Koran was the son of the late Raymond and Rose Koran of Freedom.
Survivors include his sons, Michael R. of Destin, Fla., and William R. (Judy); one grandchild; one step-grandchild; and sister Bernice (Gerald) Smith of Ravenna. His wife, Evelyn (Hartman) died previously.
A memorial service will be held in Charlestown at a later date.
Florence Aberegg
Florence Aberegg, 85, of 1140 Weinsz Drive, Dover, died Wednesday at Hennis Health Care Center in Dover from complications from a stroke. She had been ill since March.
Born Aug. 31, 1915, in Wheeling W.Va., she was the daughter of Louis and Mary (Tutorish) Gavrus. She lived in Dover for five years, moving from 4506 Mahoning Drive, Newton Falls.
Mrs. Aberegg was a custodian for Ohio Structural Steel Corporation for many years.
She was a member of St. Michael's Church in Newton Falls. She attended the McKeesport, Pa., school system. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, embroidery and gardening.
She is survived by a son, John Pelyak; a daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Mason, both of Dover; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Her first husband, Michael Pelyak whom she married July 25, 1936 died on Nov. 8, 1966. Her second husband, Walter Aberegg whom she married Dec. 5, 1970, died June 15, 1995. A son, William "Bill" Pelyak; two brothers, George and Peter Gavrus; and a sister Mrs. Mary Nicora, all died previously.
Calling hours will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Borowski Funeral Home in Newton Falls, until services at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. John Kasarda officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in Newton Falls.

Valeria M. Culley
Valeria M. "Val" Culley, 94, of Miller Avenue, Kent, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at Kent Healthcare Center.
Born April 14, 1906 in Springfield, Ky., she was the daughter of Dr. James C. and Emma (Beaven) Mudd. She had lived in Kent for 60 years.
Mrs. Culley was a member of St. Patrick Church in Kent, Woman's Club of Kent, Oak Branch Garden Club, Past Presidents Club and Alpha Phi Sorority Mothers Group.
Survivors include her son, Robert of Kent; daughters, Becky (Dick) McNeil of Kent and Betty (Jack) Adams of Louisville, Ky.; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and sister, Emily Smith of Dayton. Her husband, Robert M. II, died in 1983. Her daughter, Judy Jochim, died in 1982. Her brothers, Clarence and William Mudd; and sisters, Gladys Smith and Beck Wolfe, died previously.

Leona M. Doubrava
AURORA - Leona M. Doubrava, 84, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Aurora Manor Special Care Centre.
Born Aug. 30, 1916, in Aurora, she was the daughter of Charles C. and Sarah (Stutzman) Raber. She was a lifelong Aurora resident.
Mrs. Doubrava was assistant postmaster at the Twinsburg Post Office for 17 years.
She was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church and the Aurora Historical Society.
Survivors include her brother, Charles Raber of Tulsa, Okla.; and sister, Midred Bishop of Quakertown, Pa. Her husband, Max, died May 25, 1995.

Theodore Mellinger
SHALERSVILLE - Theodore Kenny Mellinger, 60, died Thursday, April 12, 2001 at Akron City Hospital.
Born June 24, 1940, in Akron, he was the son of Theodore K. and Gertrude (Polenavitch) Mellinger. He had lived in Shalersville for 32 years.
Mr. Mellinger was a truck driver for 42 years until he retired.
He was an avid hunter and enjoyed racing.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara (Hill), to whom he was married 32 years; son, Rob of Shalersville; daughters, Debra (Robert) Paden of Windham and Kerry (Frank) Angle of Ravenna; and mother, Gertrude of Ravenna.

Anthony Messina
Anthony Messina, 80, of Ravenna, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Feb. 22, 1921, in Glen Campbell, Pa., he was the son of Gaetano and Mary (Bambino) Messina. He had lived in Ravenna since 1952.
Mr. Messina was motor pool manager for the Ohio Department of Transportation division office in Ravenna until he retired. He also was a Portage County special deputy.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna and served on the Ravenna Planning Commission.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Florence (Quattro), to who he was married 50 years; sons, Michael of Ravenna and Mark (Michelle) of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; one grandchild; and sisters, Irene Barnett of Pennsylvania and Pauline Mandalin of Kent. Two brothers died previously.
Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, followed by services at 10 a.m. at Shorts Funeral Homes Ravenna Chapel. The Rev. David Misbrener will officiate. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna.

Jeffery V. Bailey, 44
BRIMFIELD - Jeffery V. Bailey, 44, of Meloy Road, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at his place of business.
The Portage County Coroner is investigating the death.
Born July 26, 1956 in Cuyahoga Falls, he was a son of Art and Vera (Speck) Bailey. He owned and operated the Town Center in Brimfield where he worked as an auto body technician.
Survivors include his wife, Leilani (Kuhstos-Walker); son, Josh Bailey of Kent; daughters, Mollie Bailey of Ravenna, Nicole Buffington of Ravenna; stepson, Mike Kuhstos of Streetsboro; stepdaughter, Veronica Walker of Kent; four grandchildren; brothers, Kurt Newkirk of Florida, Sid Bailey of Georgia; sister, Kim Newkirk of Ravenna. His mother, Vera Newkirk; father, Art Bailey; and brothers, Rex Bailey and Jamie Bailey.

Edna N. "Skip" Thomas, 87, of North Portage Trail, Akron, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Hospice Care Center in Copley Township.
Born April 15, 1913 in Ravenna, she was the daughter of William and Nellie (Youmpman) Luli.
Mrs. Thomas worked for 12 years as secretary for the Portage County Agricultural Extension Office in Ravenna. She was a member of St. Sebastian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Vincent L., to whom she had been married for 53 years; brother, James B. Luli of Broadview Heights; and sister, Mildred Tinlin of Ravenna. Her daughter, Patricia Ann, died in 1962.

Formerly of Streetsboro, she lived in Rootstown since 1981. She was a machinist at Kennametal in Solon.
Survivors include her husband, Albert Hummel, to whom she was married the past 23 years; sons Josh and Chad at home; daughter Jennifer at home; mother Elizabeth Cook of Pennsylvania; brother Butch Cook of Pennsylvania; sisters Mary Beth Bashtain, Teri Olliver and Joy Toomey, all of Pennsylvania; grandfather James W. Neely of Pennsylvania.

Virginia I. McClary, 75, of Hartville, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at the Hospice Care Center.
Born Oct. 7, 1925, in Indianapolis, Ind., she was the daughter of Raymond and Edna White Cotton Matthews.
Formerly of Indianapolis, she lived in Hartville the past eight years.
A painter, she was retired from naval Avionics in Indianapolis.
Survivors include sons, Dean (Yvonne) McClary and Donald (Susan) McClary, both of Indianapolis, and Dennis McClary of Cranbury, N.J.; daughter, Diana (Tom) Conners of Hartville; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Harry Otto "Corky" Bryan
ROOTSTOWN - Harry Otto "Corky" Bryan, 49, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Wade Park Veterans Hospital in Cleveland.
Born Aug. 10, 1951 in Ravenna, he was the son of Harrison and Marguerite (Drago) Bryan. He lived in Ravenna before moving to Rootstown 15 years ago.
Mr. Bryan was the former owner and operator of the Suspension Shop in Ravenna for 20 years. He had been employed by the Portage County Water Resources Department for the last two months.
He was a lifetime member of the Ravenna Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ravenna Eagles, Ravenna Elks, Ravenna Moose Lodge and the Ravenna Italian-American Society.
He was an avid bowler, played bocce and had played on the Ravenna Elks softball team.
Survivors include his daughter, Jaime of Ravenna; one grandchild; sister, Judy Harper of Streetsboro; and special friend, Barbara Wilkinson of Nashville, Tenn. A brother, Ronald Bryan, died previously.

Paul A. Brosius
GARRETTSVILLE - Paul A. Brosius, 71, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Casa Grande Medical Center in Casa Grande, Ariz. following a brief illness.
Born Dec. 29, 1929, in Hiram Township, he was the son of Harry Homer and Florence (Luton) Brosius. He was a life resident of the Hiram and Garrettsville areas.
Mr. Brosius was self-employed on his family's farm in Hiram Township until he retied. He also operated a small machine shop at his residence for many years and had been a truck driver for Yellow Freight Trucking and National Can Corp. for many years.
He was a member of Hiram Christian Church and the Hiram Grange.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis (King); sons, Dana (Debbi) of Argentina and Darwin (Kim) and Darrell (Vicki), both of Garrettsville; daughters, Diane (Al) Roberts and Debbie (LaVon) Moore, both of Garrettsville; 11 grandchildren; brother, Carl of Avon Lake, Fla.; and sisters, Mary Smith of Warren and Wilma Dilley of Mesa, Ariz. A grandson died previously.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2001 at Hiram Christian Church, with the Rev. Robert Bowen officiating. Private burial will be held for the family. Arrangements are being handled by Green's Funeral Home in Mantua.
Lawrence M. "Pappy" Schneider
Lawrence M. "Pappy" Schneider, 93, of Munroe Falls, died Saturday, April 14, 2001.
Born June 20, 1907, in Mason County, W. Va., he was the son of Caspar Balzaar and Mary Drusella Schneider.
Mr. Schneider was a machinist and worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. before owning two rubber mold shops, including Falls Mold & Die which he owned with his sons.
He had been a councilman and head of the water board in Munroe Falls. In 1948, he helped create the volunteer fire department in Munroe Falls.
Mr. Schneider was involved with the Stow Fraternal Order of Police Association for many years and belonged to the National Tooling and Machining Association and the Northern Ohio Rubber Group Association. He enjoyed his family and hunting and fishing.
Survivors include sons, William Elmer (Rita), Terrill Melvin and Jerrold Keith (Carmella); six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. His wife, Mildred Frances, died in 1967.

Ethel M. Bender
Ethel M. Bender, 69, of Ravenna Township, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at her home.
Born Oct. 26, 1931, in Cambridge, she was the daughter of John and Hazel (Moffit) Seibert. She had lived in Ravenna since 1952.
Mrs. Bender was a toll taker on the Ohio Turnpike until she retired in January.
She was a member of Ravenna Moose Lodge No. 1234.
Survivors include her husband, Harry "Homer", to whom she was married 49 years; sons, Terry and Kirk, both of Ravenna; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Tom Seibert of Ravenna; and sisters, Evelyn Booth of Ravenna, Edna Wilson and Lula Dixon, both of Coshocton, and twin sister, Eithel Lagneaux of Cambridge. Three brothers and three sisters died previously.

Joy J. Woodson, 83
Joy J. Woodson, 83, of Kent died Saturday, April 15, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Aug. 7, 1917, in Franklin, N.J., she was the daughter of Alan and Helen (Dillistin) Johnson. She lived in Bethel Park, Pa., before moving to Kent in 1963.
Mrs. Woodson was an associate professor of Library Science at Kent State University.
She was formerly active in the American Association of University Women.
Survivors include her sons, James C. Woodson III, of Lakewood, Colo., Alan J. Woodson of Urbana, Blair T. Woodson of Ravenna; daughters, Margaret W. Watts of Streetsboro, and Helen W. Maxey of Atlanta, Ga.; eight grandchildren; and a brother, Alan D. Johnson of Lynn, N.C.
