CHARLESTOWN - Evelyn P. Price died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born in Waynesburg, Pa., she was the daughter of Arnie W. and Inez (Berry) Hamilton. She had lived in Sycamore, Pa. prior to moving to Charlestown in 1960. Mrs. Price retired from the Mantaline Corporation in Mantua. She was a member of Edinburg United Church. Survivors include her husband, Rila Jr.; sons, Arnie of Ravenna and Scott (Virginia) of Rittman; daughters, Bonnie (Edward) Suzelis of Newton Falls and Beverly Morgan of Ravenna; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Carl Hamilton of Washington, Pa., Kenneth (Joanne) Hamilton of Graysville, Pa., Lynn (Beverly) Hamilton of Rogersville, Pa., Sheryl (Linda) Hamilton fo Graysville, Pa.; and sisters, Alberta (Keith) Wise of Graysville, Pa. and Garnett (Robert) Smouse of Washington, Pa. Her sons, Stephen and David, brother, Donald Hamilton and sister, Lena Chenney, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Ruth Chartier officiating. Entombment will be in the Grandview Memorial Park Mausoleum in Ravenna.

Paul T. Froelich
MANTUA - Paul T. Froelich, 54, died Monday, July 30, 2001, at University Hospitals in Cleveland. Born Dec. 9, 1946, in Bedford, he was the son of Clarence and Luna (Holsopple) Froelich. He had lived in Maple Heights before moving to Mantua 24 years ago. Mr. Froelich was a manager at Ameritech in Cleveland until he retired. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Mantua, Telephone Pioneers Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Solon. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Mr. Froelich was a Sunday School and Confirmation teacher. He coached Little League baseball in Crestwood and coached and announced Peewee Football games in Streetsboro. Survivors include his wife, Ellen (Borling), to whom he was married 24 years; son, Walter of Mantua; daughters, Heidi and Janet, both of Mantua; and sister, Dolly Kopsak of Twinsburg. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Christ Lutheran Church in Mantua, with the Rev. Douglas Riley officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery in Mantua. Memorials can be made to Christ Lutheran Church in Mantua or to any charity.

William Frank Jachthuber
Memorial services are scheduled Thursday in Atlanta for William Frank Jachthuber, the father of Mrs. Jack (Heidi) Kohl II, who died Monday, July 30, 2001. Born and reared in Milwaukee, Wis. he graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1955. Mr. Jachthuber worked for Fiat-Aliss, Komatsu and Daewoo in construction machinery international sales development. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie, to whom he was married 45 years; daughter, Wendy and her husband, Will Clemente of Pompano Beach, Fla., and their children Wills and Weston; daughter, Heidi, and her husband, Jack, and their two children, Jakob and Jarrod, Ravenna; sons, William and his wife, Catherine, of Atlanta, and their daughters, Catherine and Ann, and Scott of Atlanta. James Boyd Walker Sr.
James Boyd Walker Sr., 85, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001. Born in Akron, he was the son of Henry and Carrie Walker. He lived in the area all his life. Mr. Walker retired from Goodyear Aerospace as a self-taught jig builder after 35 years of service. He worked on major construction projects in the area, including Mogadore Dam, the Akron Rubber Bowl and Ravenna Arsenal. He also was co-owner of an Amoco gas station in Ellet.. Survivors include his wife, Doris Dean, to whom he was married 66 years; sons Jimmy B. Jr. (Diane) of Lyons, Ohio, Dallas D. (Judy) of Tallmadge; daughters Eva (Jim) Gump of Mogadore, Karen D. (Dorsey) Whited and Doris Kay (Paul) Day, both of Akron; 26 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard (Elizabeth) of Hartville and Orville of Akron; and sisters, Betty Short of Akron and Ellen (Marvin) Frye of Delaware, Ohio. Three brothers and three sisters died previously. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home in Akron, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Ann K. Paya
Ann K. Paya, 88, formerly of Newton Falls, died of heart failure Monday, July 30, 2001, at her home in North Royalton. Born July 26, 1913, in Munhall, Pa., she was the daughter of John and Anna (Hayduk) Durkos. She had lived in Newton Falls before moving to North Royalton 66 years ago. Mrs. Paya had been employed in sales at Kaufmann's before her retirement. She was a member of St. Albert The Great Church of North Royalton and the Slovak Catholic Sokol of Cleveland. Survivors include her son, Roger of North Royalton; and brother, Edward Durkos of Newton Falls. Her husband, Andrew, whom she married in September 1936, died in 1973. Her brothers, Michael and John, died previously. Calling hours will be private. Private services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Borowski Memorial Funeral Home in Newton Falls, with the Rev. John P. Madden officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Newton Falls.

Eileen Henretty
Eileen Henretty, 70, of Newton Falls, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren after a long illness. Born Nov. 3, 1930, in Wilkinsburg, Pa., she was the daughter of Paul Williamsand Elizabeth Lorraine (Geeches) Harding. She was a graduate of Howland High School and had lived in Braceville and Howland before moving to Newton Falls 15 years ago. Mrs. Henretty was a homemaker. She had previously worked as a cook, waitress and bartender at the Kings Table and Leons Bar in Howland. She was an active member of the Newton Falls Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. She loved camping and fishing. Survivors include sons, Roger Lee Bell of Hilton Head, South Carolina and Eric Henretty of Youngstown; daughters, Mona Rochelle Young of Warren and Renee (Bell) Honesty of Jefferson City, Missouri; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Shirley Enderton of Sierra Vista, Ariz. Her husband, Billy Thomas Henretty, whom she married Jan. 21, 1961, died March 22, 1993. Brothers, William, Paul and Richard Harding; and sister, Jacqueline Stassin, died previously. There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Braceville Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls.

Helene D. Trump
Helene D. Trump, 65, of Wooster, who was a former Hiram College and Kent State University professor, died Friday, July 13, 2001, at the Kendal at Oberlin Retirement Community in Oberlin. Born Dec. 24, 1935, in Cleveland, she was the daughter of William and Elise Disselhoff. She had lived for many years near Tallmadge, where her German immigrant parents owned a wholesale florist business. Mrs. Trump taught undergraduate courses in German at Hiram College, Kent State University and Montana State University. She retired in 1984 and moved to Santa Fe, N.M. She attended Valparaiso University and KSU, where she earned a bachelor's degree in 1957 and a master's degree in German language studies in 1964. Survivors include her husband, Richard S.; nephew and nieces. A private family memorial service will be held later this month. Pauline A. Keith
MANTUA ­ Pauline A. Keith, 90, died Wednesday, August 1, 2001, at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna. Born Jan. 24, 1911, in Mantua, she was the daughter of Charles and Minnie (Marsella) DiAdario. Mrs. Keith retired from Higbee's Department Store in Cleveland where she worked for 47 years. Survivors include her sister, Helen Lechner of Mantua; two great-nephews; and four great-grandnephews. Her husband, Edward L., died in 1964. Cremation has taken place. Private graveside services will be held for the family. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Mantua. Arrangements are being handled by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home.

Elizabeth Mae Cox
MUNROE FALLS - ELizabeth Mae "Bette" Cox, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001. Born in Wadsworth, she was an area resident for most of her life. Mrs. Cox was a communications coordinator at Kent State University for 14 years until she retired in 1988. Survivors include her daughter, Toni (Dennis) Collins of Los Angeles, Calif.; three grandchildren; and brother, John (Elinor) Mack of Barberton. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Hennessy-Bagnoli Funeral Home in Tallmadge. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Jacinda Paige Kolt
Jacinda Paige Kolt, the daughter of Jeff and Amber (Weekly) Kolt, was stillborn Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Survivors include her grandparents, George and Lori Weekly, and John and Alix Kolt. There will be no calling hours. Private graveside services for the family will be held at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park in Cuyahoga Falls. Arrangements are being handled by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Dorothy B. Chatman
Dorothy B. Chatman, 94, a Kent resident for nearly 80 years who was a matriarch of the city's African-American community, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at the Portage County Nursing Home in Shalersville. Born April 25, 1907, in Champaign, Ill., she was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Annie Bell (Combs) Brown. The family settled on Maple Street in Kent and she became the first black woman to graduate from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1926. She married her husband, Holice, one week after graduation and lived on Oak Street in Kent for more than 70 years. Mrs. Chatman was a homemaker and was involved in numerous church and civic activities. She was a lifelong member of the Spelman Chapel A.M.E. Church in Kent, where she was secretary and treasurer, a member of the senior choir, supervisor of the Sunday School and member of the Missionary Society. Mrs. Chatman was a member of the AARP, Retired Senior Volunteer Program and Church Women United of Portage County. She also volunteered at the geriatric clinic sponsored by the Kent Visiting Nurse Association and was active in the RSVP Outreach Program. She was a frequent visitor to area nursing homes, including the Portage County Nursing Home, where she had lived since January. While rearing her family, Mrs. Chatman was involved in school activities at South School and Roosevelt and was the first black president of the Kent PTA Council. She later worked at Holden Elementary School for several years as a teaching assistant through the RSVP program, spending several hours each week reading to students and doing one-on-one work with them. She always welcomed neighbors into the area with home-baked goods and enjoyed gardening, crafts, flowers, photography, reading and traveling. Proud of her heritage and the Kent community, Mrs. Chatman kept track of local history for more than 50 years by compiling scrapbooks of newspaper clippings and other items of historical interest. Survivors include her daughters, Yvonne Johnson and Imogene (George) Drake, both of Cleveland, and Constance (Curtis) Clinkscales of Jamaica, New York; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Paul L. (Agnes) Brown of Kent; sisters, Eugenia Stonework of Cleveland and Thelma Hallman of Hubbard; and many nephews and nieces. Her husband, Holice, died in 1976. A daughter, Linda Stone, died in 1989. Sons, Harmon and Lee; and a grandson, Gregory C. Drake, also died previously. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Kent Chapel. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Spelman Chapel A.M.E. Church in Kent. Memorials can be made to the Dorothy Chatman Scholarship Fund of the Spelman Chapel A.M.E. Church of Kent.

Donald Robert "Don" Holcomb
WINDHAM - Donald Robert "Don" Holcomb, 86, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at his home. Born June 21, 1915, in Arcola, W.Va., he was the son of William Harrison and Florence (Morris) Holcomb. He had lived in Cowen, W.Va. before moving to Windham 45 years ago. Mr. Holcomb was a coal miner in West Virginia and retired from Walker China Pottery in Bedford, where he was a kiln foreman. He was a member of the United Mine Workers and the Democratic Party. Survivors include his wife, Pauline M. (Roberts); sons, Gary (Bonnie) of Streetsboro, Donald Lee of Shade, Ohio and Robert (Debbie) of Mecca; daughters, Ruth Ann (James) Owens of Windham and Carol (Ernest) Bradley of Garrettsville; 30 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and brother, James (Barbara) Holcomb of Florida. His first wife, Pearl Pauline (Tyler); son, James; daughter, Kathryn Holcomb; adopted son, Gary Michael; four brothers; and two sisters, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Joe Board and Minister Rick Tincher officiating. Burial will be in Windham Township Cemetery.

DEERFIELD - Earl N. Exline, 46, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at his sister's home following a short illness. Born May 28, 1955, in Morgantown, W. Va., he was the son of Ward H. and Laurene (Gibson) Exline. Survivors include his wife, Kimberly (Freetage), to whom he was married for 10 years; a daughter, Monica J. Exline of Boardman; sons, Earl N. Jr. of Groton, Conn. and Geremy of Smith, Tenn.; stepson, Daniel J. Freetage; stepdaughter, Bobby Jean Sheriff; four grandchildren; brothers, Ward and Jonny Exline of Calhoun, Tenn. and James Exline of Girard; sisters, Brenda Robinson, Wendy Fox and Rosemary Exline, all of Dillner, Pa., Joyce Seem of Deerfield, Mary Wallace of Florida and Nancy Moats of Calhoun, Tenn. Maggie T. Villarreal
Maggie T. Villarreal, 86, of Ravenna, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at her home following a brief illness. Born Dec. 22, 1914, in San Antonio, Texas, she was the daughter of Agapito and Concha (Valdez) Villarreal. She had lived in San Antonio before moving to Ravenna two years ago. She was a homemaker. Survivors include a daughter, Rosie V. Perez-Stevens of Bedford; four grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Joseph Villarreal of Oregon. Three sisters died previously. Visitation will be held one hour prior to 2 p.m. funeral services Monday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna.

PARIS - Edna Arlene Hauser, 82, died of leukemia Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren. Born Dec. 4, 1918, in Jamestown, Pa., she was the daughter of Carl and Effie Elverta (Norton) Bates. She was a lifetime resident of Newton Falls. Mrs. Hauser was a homemaker. She attended the Messiah Lutheran Church in Newton Falls. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards and crocheting. Survivors include sons, David of Ravenna, Kenneth of Newton Falls, Robert of Cortland and Pastor James Hauser of Norton; daughters, Kay (Gregg) Arnold and Beverly Hauser, both of Newton Falls; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Raymond Bates of Newton Falls, Clarence Bates of Niles and Carl Bates Jr. of Warren; and sisters, Shirley (Robert) Duncan of Newton Falls, Betty (William) Dunbar of Southington and Virginia Parana of Warren. Her husband, Steve D., whom she married Dec. 9, 1939, died Dec. 5, 1984. A son, Steve; brothers, Howard and Darwin Bates; and sisters, Dorothy Bates, Dana Bates, Florence Dann and Marion Warzala, died previously. Alberta Vogel, 81
Alberta A. Vogel, 81, of Streetsboro died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, in University Hospitals in Cleveland. Born Nov. 24, 1919, in Cleveland, she was the daughter of Albert and Etta (Schaefer) Maison. She lived in Streetsboro since 1957. Mrs. Vogel was a homemaker. She attended St. Joan of Arc Church in Streetsboro and was a member of its Alter and Rosary Society and the church choir, and she was a former member of the parish council. Survivors include her son, Thomas (Marie) Vogel of Loveland, Colo.; daughters Anne (Frank) Minnelli of Lakewood; Kathleen (James) Dawson of Deerfield, Therese (Jack) Donzanti of Hudson; Mary (Michael) Shick of Shalersville and Christine (Jeffrey) Bonk of Green; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters Kathleen John of Richmond Heights, and Roslyn Davis of Oak Harbor, Wash. Her husband, George Vogel died in 1983 and a son, George Vogel III died in 1982. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Shorts Funeral Homes in Streetsboro. Services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joan of Arc Church in Streetsboro with Msgr. Frederick Slaven officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Streetsboro. Uriah Dokes
Uriah Dokes, infant son of Steven and Nikita (Ransom) Dokes of Ravenna, was born, and died, Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at Akron General Medical Center in Akron. Private graveside services will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna for the family. The Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, is handling arrangements.

Barbara Jean Martin
WIN LAKES - Barbara Jean Martin, 73, of Woodway Drive, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at her home. Born Oct. 12, 1927, in Marietta, she was the daughter of John G. and Helen (Smith) Martin. She kept residences in Twin Lakes and Jensen Beach, Fla. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Lakewood and the Elm Garden Club of Portage County and donated to the American Red Cross for over 50 years. She attended Lakewood High School and graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1949. Survivors include her husband, Robert W., whom she married Sept. 12, 1948; sons, Robert C., Christopher J. (Carol), Shawn D. (Susan), and Kevin W. (Leslie), all of Kent, and Jeff W. (Ann) of St. Louis, Mo., 13 grandchildren; brother, Charles E. Martin of Ocala, Fla.; and sister, Joy Blackburn of Keswick, Va. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Services will be held Monday, with the time and place to be announced.

Pauline Seyfried
Pauline May (Alger) Seyfried, 85, of Ravenna, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at Akron General Hospital following heart surgery. Born July 1, 1916, in Akron, she was the daughter of Clifford and May (Kent) Alger. She graduated from Ravenna Township High School in 1934. After leaving Ravenna in 1968, she resided in Reynoldsburg for 26 years before returning to Ravenna in 1994 following the death of her husband. Mrs. Seyfried worked with her husband, Wilbert, at Isaly Dairy and Seyfried's Restaurant in Ravenna, which they owned, for many years. She was a life member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Ravenna. She was an avid baseball fan, enjoyed working crossword puzzles and crocheted doilies and afghans for friends and family. Survivors include her son, James (Toni) of Columbus; daughter, Sally (Richard) Lott of Palmyra; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Rachel A. Ritter of Kent; and brother-in-law, Harold (Dama) Seyfried of Toledo. Her husband, Wilbert E., whom she married on Dec. 23, 1941; brother, Earl Alger; and sister, Lucille Novak, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church of Ravenna, with the Rev. Cliff Garris officiating. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Ravenna.

Harold Blankenship
Harold Blankenship, 69, of Kent, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at his residence of natural causes. Born Aug. 5, 1932, in Barboursville, W. Va., he was the son of Herbert and Hester (Hall) Blankenship. Formerly of Cuyahoga Falls, he lived in Kent for several months. Mr. Blankenship was the owner of Rocky's Mobile Home Services in Ravenna. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Survivors include his wife, Glendora (Eagle), whom he married in 1997; daughters, Luann Holly and Dorothy Burd, both of Huntington, W. Va.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Roger of South Carolina and Larry of Tennessee. His brother William died previously. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Shorts Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Akron.

Richard Altemus
MANTUA - Richard M. Altemus, 67, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at Maple Wood Care Centre in Streetsboro after a long illness. Born Aug. 8, 1934, in Jamestown, Pa., he was the son of James B. and Ruth Arbutus (Dunmyre) Altemus. He lived in Garrettsville before moving to Mantua. Mr. Altemus was a construction engineer at Richard L. Bowen & Associates in Shaker Heights. Survivors include his son, Chris of Ravenna; daughters, Lisa (William) Paxton and Tracy (Fred) King, both of Freedom; four grandchildren; brother, James of Oregon; and sister, Ruth Jean Jamison of Aurora. His wife, Carolyne (Bowen), whom he married Feb. 15, 1958, died May 17, 1996. Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m.until services at 1 p.m. Monday at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville. Burial will be in Park Cemetery in Garrettsville.
