Kent resident Ray Robert Styer, 50, of South Water Street, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, following a traffic accident. Mr. Styer was born in Ravenna on June 7, 1951, the son of Sanford Martin and Garnet Virginia (Mason) Styer. He was employed by Floyd's Trash Removal. Survivors include his brothers, Jack of Akron and Howard of New York City; sister, Kay Dague of Franklin Township; four nephews; two great-nephews; two great-nieces; and his fiancee, Judy Miller of Port Charlotte, Fla. Donations may be made to the family. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent.

Thomas Svoboda
Graveside services will be held Tuesday for Thomas Svoboda, 50, of Auburn Township, who died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at his home. Born Nov. 5, 1950, in Garfield Heights, he was the son of Charles and Helen (Vondrak) Svoboda. An Auburn area resident all of his life, he was a 1969 Kenston High School graduate. Mr. Svoboda was employed as a carpenter for many years by Albert Sell Builders in Chagrin Falls. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam era. Survivors include his brother, James (Beth) of Columbia, S.C. No calling hours will be held. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Shadyside Cemetery in Auburn Township. Green's Funeral Home in Mantua is handling arrangements.

Kevin Spencer
Kevin Michael Spencer, 24, of Hunter Ave., Munroe Falls died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at Akron City Hospital as a result of injuries suffered in a motorcycle-truck accident in Stow. Born Feb. 27, 1977, in Ravenna, he was a son of Tim and Marsha (Spencer) Scharder. Mr. Spencer owned and operated Hands on Roofing in Munroe Falls. Survivors include his mother, Marsha Spencer of Kent; father, Tim Scharder of Ohio, sister, Erin Spencer of Kent; uncles, Frank Spencer of Alabama, David (Ce Anne) Spencer of Houston, Texas, John (Paulette) Spencer of Suffield and Paul (Trudy) Spencer of Ravenna; aunts, Nancy (Tom) Reid of Suffield, Sally (Ronald) Taliaferro of Alabama, Betty (Tom) Melton of Alabama, Kim (Mark) Arrowsmith of Blacklick, Pamela (Kevin) Long of Thermont, Md.; and fianc, Carla Cencer of Solon. Marjorie Williams
Marjorie Williams, 91, of Sebring, a former resident of Wayland and Ravenna, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at Crandall Medical Center in Sebring after a long illness. Born March 4, 1910 in Palmyra to Everett and Grace (Fisher) Evans, she had lived in Sebring since 1992. Mrs. Williams was postmaster in Wayland and helped to operate the Williams General Store in Wayland. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ravenna, past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Leading Star Chapter in Newton Falls. She also enjoyed gardening and quilting. Survivors include her sons, Randall of Falls Church, Va., and Kenneth of Hannibal, Mo.; five grandchildren; brothers, Edward Evans of Ravenna, Wilbur Evans of Warren and Ernest Evans of Wayland. Her husband, Griffith, died Aug. 19, 1995. Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. until services at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Burial will be in Hawley Cemetery in Paris. Harold T. Bridges
ROOTSTOWN _ Harold T. Bridges, 72, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna. Born Feb. 19, 1929, in Knoxville, Tenn., he was the son of James L. and Katie (Thomas) Bridges. He had lived in Akron before moving to Rootstown in 1956. Mr. Bridges retired from B.F. Goodrich in Akron, where he worked in research and development. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Ravenna. Survivors include his wife, Julia (Sturtz); sons, Daniel of Beaver Creek, Ohio, and Jonathan (Carolyn) of Chardon; daughters, Debra of Rootstown and Brenda (Lynn) Long of Orlando, Fla.; six grandchildren; brother, John (Tama Jo) of Loma Linda, Calif.; and sisters, Betty (Robert) Brown of Chattanooga, Tenn. and Helen (Cloman) Weaver of Loma Linda. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Ravenna, with the Rev. John Bridges and the Rev. Shelvan Arunan officiating. Anna M. Szenas
STOW _ Anna M. Szenas, 82, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at her home. Born May 20, 1919, in Reynoldsville, Pa., she was the daughter of Stephen and Anna (Ruman) Miskolcze. She had lived in Greensburg, Pa., Seminole, Fl. and Mount Vernon, Ohio before moving to Stow two years ago. Mrs. Szenas was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Cuyahoga Falls. She took an active role in the construction of the family home in Greensburg. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing golf. She also was a talented seamstress and enjoyed crafts such as needlepoint and counted cross-stitching. Survivors include her husband, Alexander A.; son, Allan B. (Laura) of Mount Vernon; daughter, Susan L. (Larry) Alexander of Stow; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; brothers, William (Ann) Miskolcze and Julius Miskolcze, both of Ellwood City, Pa. and Arthur Miskolcze of Warren; and sisters, Margaret Lipovsky of Ellwood City, Pa. and Irene (Ralph) Elbrecht of Chesterland, Ohio. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the 11 a.m. memorial service Wednesday at the United Presbyterian Church in Cuyahoga Falls, with the Rev. Steve Brundage officiating. Former Newton Falls resident Paul W. Bungard, 73, of Davenport, Fla., died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001 at Tandem Health Care Center in Winter Haven, Fla. Born April 11, 1928, in Canton, he was the son of William D. and Zora E. (Miller) Bungard. He had lived in Davenport since 1991. Mr. Bungard was a foreman at Rockwell International for 34 years until he retired in 1983. Survivors include his wife, Mary Fay, whom he married on June 4, 1949; daughters, Mrs. Clem (Carol) Schneider of Olmsted Falls, and Glyn (Judith) Rogers of Clay City, Ky.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Carl T. of Naples, Fla., and Charles M. of Berlin Center. A son, Dale, three brothers and one sister died previously. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at First Church of God in Newton Falls, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday. STREETSBORO _ Marilynn E. Daugherty, 52, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001. She was the daughter of Thomas and Theresa (Zingalis) Vecchio. Survivors include her sons, Richard (Kim) Spicel, Larry (Stacey) Heydon Jr., and Anthony Heydon; daughter, Gina Slusher; four grandchildren; sister, RoseAnn Cox; and brothers, Thomas Vecchio and Joseph Vecchio. Services were held today at Ripepi Funeral Home in Parma.

Pansey "Pat" Jones
Pansey "Pat" Jones, 83, of Nashville, died Thursday, June 14, 2001. Born Oct. 14, 1917, in Nash County, she was the daughter of the late Joshua and Mary Elizabeth (Collie) Eddins. Mrs. Jones was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include her brother, Jack Eddins of Kathleen, Fla.; nine nephews and nine nieces. Her husband, Wilbur, died previously. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Vaughn Cemetery in Lake Milton, with the Rev. Marvin Brown officiating. Arrangmements are being handled by James Funeral Home, Newton Falls.

MANTUA _ Helen I. Lechner, 92, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born Feb. 17, 1909, in Mantua, she was the daughter of Charles and Minnie (Marsella) DiAdario. She had lived in Mantua most of her life. Survivors include her grandsons, Kenneth Lechner of South Russell and Jeffrey Lechner of Chesterland; and great-grandsons, Scott, Mark, Matthew and Tommy Lechner, all of South Russell. A son, Kenneth Lechner; sisters, Jane DiAdario and Pauline Keith; and a brother, Leonard DiAdario, died previously. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel with the Rev. Gene Navias officiating. Diana L. (Kale) Archer, 53, of Ravenna Township, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born Oct. 8, 1947 in Ravenna, she was the daughter of Carl and Mary (Doak) McDaniel. She was a Ravenna resident most of her life. Mrs. Archer was a homemaker. She attended Bethel Baptist Church in Ravenna. Survivors include her son, Richard (Kim) Kale of Akron; daughter, Mindy (Christopher) Walker of Ravenna; three grandchildren; parents, Carl and Mary McDaniel of Ravenna; brother, Alan McDaniel of Ravenna; and sister, Julie McDaniel of Suffield. Thomas R. Brewster Sr.
Thomas R. Brewster Sr., 57, of Spring Hill, Fla., a former Hiram Township resident, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at his home in Florida of lung cancer. Born March 14, 1944, in Cleveland, he was the son of Arthur and Irene (Torkey) Brewster. He had lived in Florida 10 months, moving from Mumford Road in Hiram Township. Mr. Brewster had been employed for 18 years by Stouffer Foods in Solon as a maintenance mechanic. He previously was a welder and truck driver. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany during 1965-67. He was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, carpentery, NASCAR and street rods. Survivors include his wife, Sharon (Blust), whom he married March 21, 1986; sons, Thomas R. Jr. and Justin T., both of Spring Hill, Fla.; brother, Ronald of Wakeman, Ohio; and sisters, Theresa Morgan of Strongsville and Patricia Dunn of Crossville, Tenn. His parents died previously. Wallace D. "Shanny" Shanaberger
Wallace D. "Shanny" Shanaberger, 87, of Sheri Drive, Kent, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born Nov. 7, 1913, in Fairchance, Pa., to Lloyd E. and Ella (Darby) Shanaberger, his family moved to Kent when he was 2 years old. He graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in Kent and attended Kent State University. He retired as a supervisor with Lawson Milk Co. in 1977. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in the African and European theaters of war. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 496 and Faith Lutheran Church of Kent. Survivors include his wife, Peggy A. (Koch), to whom he was married 61 years; son, Eric (Holly)of Medina; daughter, Diane (Richard) Sherlock of Plantsville, Pa.; six grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Bill Koch. GARRETTSVILLE _ Doris L. Fellenstein, 75, of Garrettsville, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at Lake Hospital System-West in Willoughby following a period of declining health. Born Sept. 8, 1925, in Chagrin Falls, she was the daughter of Norman and Gertrude (Laferty) Rood. She had lived in Aurora for 52 years before moving to Garrettsville in 1998. Mrs. Fellenstein was employed for 14 years as a cafeteria worker with the Aurora City Schools before retiring in 1988. She had been a member of the New Life Assembly of God Church in Aurora. She was currently a member of Praise Assembly of God Church in Garrettsville. She was a 1943 graduate of Chagrin Falls High School, a former member of the Aurora Board of Education, and a former member and past president of the Geauga Lake Improvement Association. She was a worker with the Portage County Board of Elections and a volunteer with the American Cancer Society. Survivors include her husband, Robert G., whom she married July 23, 1946; sons, Terry A. (Terry) of Oklahoma City, Okla., Robert G. Jr. of Aurora, Marty (Deborah) of San Diego, Calif., John R. (Lori) and William T. Helen L. Rutan, 70, of 324 Ophelia, Newton Falls, died of renal failure Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at Laurie Ann Nursing Home in Newton Falls. Born Feb. 10, 1931, in Buckhannon, W.Va., she was the daughter of Samuel E. and Helen L. (Slaughter) Lane. She had lived in Newton Falls for most of her life. Mrs. Rutan was a homemaker. She was a member of the Newton Falls First Church of God. She enjoyed camping, watching football and baseball, liquid embroidering and attending the Slaughter family reunion. Survivors include daughters, Carol A. George P. Shuster, 81, of Deidrick Road, Kent, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born Jan. 17, 1920, in Lungbridge, Pa., he was the son of John and Frances (Kish) Shuster. Mr. Shuster retired from the maintenance department at Kent State University. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his sister, Katherine Wrabec of Tallmadge; brothers-in-law, Vernon R. (Ruth) Mains of Kent and Guy E. Mains of Kent; and nephews and nieces and their children, including Connie, Al, Alley and Carrie Ewart. His wife, Margaret M. (Mains), died in 1986. Herman Calhoun, 75, of Ravenna Township, who is survived by 116 direct descendants, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital. Born Sept. 29, 1925 in England, Ark., he was the son of Henry and Rosetta Calhoun. He had lived in Ravenna for 45 years. Mr. Calhoun was a mill worker before retiring from Colonial Rubber. He was a member of the Community Baptist Church in Ravenna and a Doric Lodge Mason. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy (Howard) to whom he was married more than 50 years; sons, Nathaniel and Richard, both of Ravenna, Daniel (Cathy) of Kent, Forrest (Christina) of Cleveland, Rathatis (Nancy), Melvin, and Ronald, all of Warren; daughters, Geraldine Calhoun of Kent and Beverly (Alvin) Clark of Ravenna; 49 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Pauline M. Yanchar, 80, of Euclid, the mother of Philip Yanchar of Kent, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at Euclid Meridia Hospital. Born Nov. 24, 1920 in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Pauline Tichar. Mrs. Yanchar was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Christine Church in Euclid. She was av avid bowler and golfer and followed her husband's polka band closely. Survivors include her husband, Paul F.; sons, Philip (Susan) Yanchar, of Kent and Paul (Paul Martin) of Lakewood; daughters, Patricia (William) Bailey of South Euclid, Paulette (James) Busher of South Euclid, and Pamela (Patrick) May of Avon Lake; and 15 grandchildren. Survivors include his mother, Marsha Spencer, of Kent; father, Tim Schrader of Ohio; sister, Erin Spencer of Kent; aunts, Nancy (Tom) Reed of Suffield, Sally (Ronald) Taliaferro of Alabama, Betty (Tom) Melton of Alabama, Kim (Mark) Arrowsmith of Blacklick, Ohio, and Pamela (Kevin) Long of Thermont, Md.; and uncles, Frank Spencer of Alabama, David (CeAnne) Spencer of Houston, Tex., John (Paulette) Spencer of Suffield, and Paul (Trudy) Spencer of Ravenna. Memorial services were held Wednesday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home.

GARRETTSVILLE _ Doris Fellenstein, 75, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001 at Lake Hospital System-West in Willoughby. Arrangements will be announced by Green's Funeral Home in Mantua.
