DAISY R. KNIGHT
Daisy R. Knight, 91, of Ravenna, died Thursday, July 30, 1998, at the Portage County Nursing Home after a long illness.
Born March 24, 1907 in Mantua, she was the daughter of Anthony and Maria (DiBenedetto) Chrell.
Mrs. Knight was a homemaker. She formerly worked at F.W. Woolworth's in Ravenna and Cleveland Worsted Mills in Ravenna.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna.-
Survivors include six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; brother, Harry Chrell of Ravenna; and sister, Edith Lyons of Ravenna. Her sons, Reginald Thomas Knight and Charles "Oscar" Knight; brothers, Art and Girard Chrell; and sisters, Anna Burkholder and Mildred Van Auken,died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will take be in Hillside Cemetery in Mantua.
IONA M. BRUNER
Iona M. Bruner, 87, a longtime resident of Ravenna and a former Streetsboro resident, died July 30, 1998, at Geauga Regional Hospital in Chardon.
She was born May 30, 1911 in Bellaire, Ohio.
Mrs. Bruner was a homemaker.
Survivors include her sons, Barry Workman Kell and Robert A. Workman; and four grandchildren. Her husbands, James A. Workman and Samuel Bruner, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Stroud-Lawrence Funeral Home, 95 S. Franklin St., Chagrin Falls. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Evergreen Cemetery in Streetsboro.
ROBERT J. RICHMOND
BRIMFIELD - Robert J. Richmond, 51, died Friday, July 31, 1998, at the Cleveland Clinic following a brief illness.
Born Dec. 23, 1946 in Garrett, Ky., he was the son of Everett and Olga (Bolen) Richmond. A former Utah resident, he had been a resident of the Mogadore and Brimfield area for 10 years. He was also a graduate of Moorehead State University.
Mr. Richmond had been employed as a buyer with Nook Industries and formerly was with Volvo General Motors.
He had attended the United Methodist Church of Kent and was a member of A.P.I.C.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Donna (Morgan); son, Lance at home; parents, Everett and Olga of Kentucky; brother, Steve of Kentucky; and sister, Linda (Bill) Salisbury of Kentucky.
Calling hours will be held from 4 p.m. until services at 7 p.m. Monday at Hall Funeral Home in Martin, Ky. A local memorial service is being arranged by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Kent Chapel.
SANDRA K. HARDESTY
Former Ravenna resident Sandra K. Hardesty, 48, of Akron, died Wednesday, July 28, 1998, at Akron City Hospital.
Born March 10, 1950 in Ravenna, she was the daughter of John and Blanche (Loftin) Hardesty. She had lived in Akron for 20 years.
She was a case management specialist at Orianna House in Akron.
She was a member of Unity Church of God in Christ in Akron.
Survivors include her son, Anthony Anderson of Akron and Sonya (Kenneth) Hardesty Dillard of Smyrna, Ga.; one grandchild; brother, Veral Hardesty of Ravenna; and sisters, Norma Sales of Kent, Carol Mims of Ravenna, Betty Hunt of Akron, Lucille Wright of Kent and Hazel Colbert of Akron. Her sister, Dorselle Bennett, died previously.
Calling hours will be held 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday and from 1 p.m. until service at 2 p.m. Monday at Shorts Funeral Home in Ravenna. The Rev. A.C. Walker will officiate. Cremation will follow.

Lawrence (Bill) Billiter Sr., 50, a former Brady Lake resident, died July 10, 1998, at Omro Care Center, Omro, Wis..
Born May 26, 1948, in Paden City, W.Va., he had lived in Oshkosh, Wis., for the past 19 years.
Mr. Billiter was owner and operator of Billiter and Associates.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association and Oshkosh American Legion.
Survivors include his sons, Lawrence Paulsen Jr. and Jon Billiter, both of Oshkosh; daughter, Danielle Billiter of Oshkosh; three grandchildren; mother, Frances Hunsicker of Austintown; brother, Rick (Sue) Hunsicker of Brimfield; and sister, Gloria (Larry) Klein of Rittman. His father, Sherman, died previously.
Arrangements were made by Krause Funeral Home of Omro, Wis. Burial was in Omro.
TED J. KUNKA
Ted J. Kunka, 80 of Ravenna, died Thursday, July 30, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital.
Born March 25, 1918 in Ravenna, he was a life resident of Ravenna
Mr. Kunka was a machinist for several machine shops, including Colonial Machine of Kent and Byers Machine Co. in Ravenna.
He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his sons, Ted of Ravenna, Robert of Colorado and Michael of Kent, and four grandchildren. His wife, Ann, died in 1997. His brothers, George, Vic and John, and sister, Sophie Falkowski, died previously.
There will be no public calling hours. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna, with the Rev. David Misbrener officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Ravenna. Arrangements were made by Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.
Margaret M. Stephens
Former Brady Lake resident Margaret M. Stephens, 89, of Sidney, Ohio, died Friday, July 31, 1998 at Dorothy Love Retirement Community in Sidney.
Born July 17, 1909 in New Bethlehem, Pa., she was the daughter of William H. and Lottie M. (Doverspike) Hoffman.
Mrs. Stephens worked for 30 years as an inspector at Lamson & Sessions Co. in Kent.
She was a was a member of the Lake Brady United Methodist Church for more than 50 years and a longtime member of Rebekah Lodge in Ravenna. She enjoyed traveling, golf and bowling.
Survivors include her husband, Henry, whom she married in 1970; sons, V. Paul Gahagan of Sidney; daughters, Mrs. William (Betty) Zingler of North Canton and Shirley Gareri of Huntsville, Ala.; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and brother, Alvin Hoffman of New Port Richie, Fla. Her first husband, Verle G. Gahagan, whom she married in 1926, died previously. A sister also died previously.
Arrangements were handled by Cromes Funeral Home in Sidney. Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family in Pennsylvania.

Alex Pudloski
Alex Joseph Pudloski, 83, of Hughey Drive, Kent, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 1998, at Akron City Hospital.
Born Oct. 28, 1914 in Kent, he was the son of Anthony and Catherine (Kaminski) Pudloski.
Mr. Pudloski worked as an inspector for Twin Coach Co. in Kent and Chrysler Corproation in Twinsburg, where he retired after 11 years. He enjoyed golf, traveling and being with his family after he retired.
Survivors include his wife, Ann V. (Slama), to whom he was married 60 years; sons, Thomas G. (Jeanne) of Vermilion and James A. (Pat) of Cuyahoga Falls; daughter, Karen Geist of Kent; six grandchildren; and sisters, Stella Pizzuti of Carmel, Ind., and Agnes Koerner of Kent. His brothers, Steve and Stanley, and sister, Ann Wieclaw, died previously.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent.

Shirleymae Weideman, 72
EDINBURG - Services will be held Friday for Shirleymae R. Weideman, 72, who died Monday, Aug. 3, 1998, at her home.
Born May 17, 1926 in Sykesville, Pa., she was the daughter of Lavere "Red" and Sadie Ellen (Frantz) Reber. She had lived in Edinburg since the 1950s, after moving from Akron.
Mrs. Weideman was the founder of the Weideman Adult Family Home in Edinburg. She also was a dispatcher for the Edinburg Volunteer Fire Department.
She was an avid bowler and also crocheted for the Santa Claus Express in Ravenna.
Survivors include her son, Joseph W. of Edinburg; daughters, Linda Mae of Edinburg, Ellen Marie Balcom of Akron; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Sylvia Hamner of Edinburg, Beverly Lopez of Florida and Karen Love of Edinburg; and former husband, Joseph Weideman of Edinburg. Her son, Dennis; daughter, Tonia M.; and brothers, Edward, Bud and Major Keith Reber, died previously.

Anna Mae Koerner, 80, of Silver Oaks, Kent, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998, at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna.
Born Aug. 24, 1917 in London, Ohio, she was the daughter of Charles F. and Lova (Kimble) DeLong.
Mrs. Koerner worked in the maintenance department at Kent State University for 20 years. She also attended Faith Lutheran Church of Kent.
Survivors include her daughters, Patricia (James) Grubb of Streetsboro, Penny Meyers of Longmount, Colo. and Cathy Lynn Parke (Dennis) Ashcraft of Kent; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Charles F. DeLong of Ravenna; sisters, Jean Thompson of Fort Worth, Texas, Sally Dallas of Eastlake and Shirley Conklin of Des Moines, Iowa. Her husband, Walter, died previously.

Jimmy W. Williams, 65
Jimmy Weber Williams, 65, of San Marcos, Texas, the brother of several Portage area residents, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998, at his home.
Born Nov. 22, 1932 in Ashtabula, he was the son of Harry and Marcelle Williams. He lived at the Ravenna Arsenal from around 1945 to 1952 before moving to Texas.
Mr. Williams worked for Nash Chevrolet in San Marcos as a general office manager until he retired in 1996.
Survivors include his son, Jimmy Lee (Georgann) of Anaheim Hills, Calif.; daughter, Debbie Lynn Everett of San Marcos, Texas; three grandchildren; brothers, Walter (Ruth) of Golden Valley, Ariz., David (Charlotte) of Lompoc, Calif., Jack (Karen) of Yorktown, Va., Bill (Jan) of Newton Falls and Donald of Ravenna; and sisters, Hope (Salty) Petrella, Gladys (Carl) Perkowski, and Mary (Hank) Trivelli, all of Kent, Laura Dunlop of Akron, Margaret Meagher of Ravenna, and Janet (Michael) Frosbese of Hallsville, Texas. His brother, Harry, died previously.

JOHN ROBINSON
Former Kent resident John Carroll Robinson, 54, of Akron, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998 at St. Thomas Medical Center in Akron.
He was born Sept. 21, 1943 in Akron, the son of Carroll Seth and Mildred (Parker) Robinson. He graduated in 1961 from Theodore Roosevelt High School in Kent.
Mr. Robinson began working as a meat cutter after graduation, ending his career working at Fazios. He was a member of the UFCW Local 880, formerly the Meat Cutters Union.
Survivors include his son, Carroll (Laura) of Doylestown; daughters, Pamela of Portage Lakes, Elizabeth (Keith) McClintock Bates of Brady Lake and Julie (Keith) Phillips of Portage Lakes; mother, Mildred of Kent; three granddaughters; brothers, Jim (Cheryl) of Kent and Charles of Akron; and Jean Robinson of Northfield. His father died previously.

Anna Mae Koerner, 80, of Silver Oaks in Kent, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998, at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna.

MARY ANN CRAMER
MaryAnn Cramer, 66, of Canton, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998, at home of cancer.
Born June 21, 1932 in Ravenna, she was the daughter of Walter and Anna (Szabaga) Dobroski. She was a Canton resident.
Mrs. Cramer was a secretary for the Area Agency on Aging in Canton and a volunteer for United Way, the Center for Domestic Violence and the American Cancer Society.
She was active in many professional groups and organizations, including Professional Secretaries Int. Soroptomist Internation of Canton, the After Five Club and the Football Hall of Fame Volunteer Association.
Survivors include her husband, Robert; son, Philip of Canton; daughters, Bena (Scott) Kluegel of Portland, Ore., and Rebecca of Canton; aunts, Genevieve Szabaga of Louisville and Rose Ferrell of Ravenna. She was proceeded in death by her sister, Sophia Keener.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday and 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. Monday at Heitger Funeral Service, Jackson Chapel, 5850 Wales Road N.W. in Massillon. Dr. John Howard Parks
FREEDOM - Dr. John Howard Parks, 83, retired chairman of the Department of Classical Studies at Kent State University, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998 at his home following a brief illness.
Dr. Parks began his teaching career at KSU in 1948 and retired in 1983. He was among the first recipients of the university's Distinguished Teaching Award, which he received in 1971. He also received the Student Advisory Council's Outstanding Teachers Award from the College of Arts & Sciences.
During his 35-year career at KSU, he was a member of the Faculty Senate, president of the American Association of University Professors Kent Chapter, president of the Ohio Classical Conference and a member of Phi Delta Kappa.
Dr. Parks and his wife, Betty J., also a retired member of the Department of Classical Studies, moved to Portage County in 1948. They lived for the past 42 years in Freedom Township in a century home they restored and filled with antiques they refinished and furniture Dr. Parks built.
He served two terms as chairman of the Freedom Township Zoning Board.
In addition to furniture and cabinet building, he was an avid photographer. He also enjoyed traveling, especially throughout Italy and Greece, and oil painting.
Born July 27, 1915 in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was the son of John and Margaret (Ragan) Parks.
He was a graduate of Lasalle College in Philadelphia and earned his Ph.D in 1945 from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
In addition to his wife, Betty, to whom he was married for 52 years, survivors include his sons, John F. of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and Mark A. of San Marcos, Calif.; daughters, Mary J. Coblentz of Stow and Katherine J. Paul of Hiram; eight grandchildren; and sister, Madeline Bickerton of Palm Harbor, Fla. Two brothers and eight sisters died previously.
Cremation and private services have taken place. Arrangements were handled by Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville. Friends are invited to the family's home from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11.

John R. "Jack" Smallfield
John R. "Jack" Smallfield, 72, of West Melbourne, Fla., died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, in Franklin Township.
Born Feb. 7, 1926 in Kent, he was the son of William Jacob and Mary Jeannett (Whyte) Smallfield. He had lived in the Kent-Ravenna area, Hawaii, and Tampa, Fla., before moving to West Melbourne.
Mr. Smallfield had been employed by Erie Lackawana Railroad in the Kent yards, was a gravel pit operator in Portage County, a heavy machine operator and a supervisor with General Construction and a charter boat captain in Hawaii.
While living in Portage County, he taught water safety for the Portage County Red Cross.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion of Ravenna and Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church of Melbourne.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne (Thompson), to whom he was married 52 years; son, John R. II of Ravenna; daughters, Mrs. Richmond (Suzee) Louche of Melbourne and Liz Furnas of Sacramento, Calif.; five grandchildren; foster son, Pat Patterson of Las Vegas, Nev.; foster daughter, Wendy Amodio of Palmyra; and sister, Mrs. Raymond (Charlotte) Cruise of Ravenna. His brother, George B., and sister, Helen Maxine Kline, died previously.
There will be no calling hours. A private service will be held for family. Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, is handling the arrangements.
Joseph Russo
Joseph Russo, 98, of Ellwood City, Pa., the father of Mrs. John (Irene) Yaniello of Ravenna, died Friday, Aug. 7, 1998 at Ellwood City Hospital.
He was born Aug. 25, 1899 in Salerno, Italy.
Mr. Russo retired from National Plumbing & Fixtures Corp. in Ellwood City.
A World War I veteran of the Allied-Italian Army, he was with an artillery unit that was sent to the French front to serve with the U.S. Army. He was wounded in 1918 while attached with the U.S. Army at Compeigne, France. He was a combat veteran of the Austrian Front and the Battles of the Marne and Compeigne.
In addition to Mrs. Yaniello, survivors include his daughter, Mary Jane, at home; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. His wife, Jennie, whom he married in 1924, died in 1950.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 3:45 p.m., at Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, 309 Spring Ave., Ellwood City, Pa. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Ellwood City. Burial with military honors will be in St. Agatha Cemetery in Ellwood City.
Lisa Paden
WINDHAM - Lisa (Behanna) Paden, 33, died unexpectedly Friday, Aug. 7, 1998, at St. Michael's Hospital in Cleveland.

Mildred Gepper, 89
GARRETTSVILLE - Mildred A. Gepper, 89, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, following a short illness.
Born Feb. 16, 1909 in Windham, she was the daughter of Charles D. and Emma (Cook) Bloomer. A life resident of the area, she had lived in Garrettsville for 53 years.
Mrs. Gepper was a homemaker. She and her late husband, Carl, were married for 73 years until he died in 1997.
She was a member of Beebe Rebekah Lodge No. 405 in Ravenna, Hiram Lunch Bunch, Garrettsvillle Senior Citizens and Garrettsville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her sons, Harold of Garrettsville and Lester of Ravenna; daughters, Lillian of Lakewood and Arlene Garvin of Kent; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Her husband, Carl H., whom she married Jan. 20, 1924, died July 5, 1997.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until services at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville, with the Rev. Dwaine Stanley officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery in Garrettsville.
