STOW - Lillian M. "Granny" (Sarver) Langham, 91, died Friday, Aug. 14, 1998. Born in New Bloomfield, Pa., she has been a Stow resident since 1953. Mrs. Langham worked at Josyln Manufacturing in Macedonia and Walker China in Bedford. She was a member of Lee Bishop Post No. 464 of the American Legion in Hudson and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Falls Chapter. Survivors include her son, Thomas (Shirley) Asper of Rehoboth Bay, Del.; daughter, Grace Smith of Stow; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one brother and four sisters. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Redmon Funeral Home in Stow, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Bob Brubaker officiating. Eva Putra
Eva Putra, 90, of Suffield died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998. Born Feb. 24, 1908 in Rastavac, Yugoslavia, she was the daughter of Stephen and Josephine Loncar. She and her family immigrated to America in 1950 where they started farming in Marshalville, Ohio. Mrs. Putra was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the German Family Society of Golden Ring Senior Citizen Club. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. Survivors include sons, Anton (Anna) Putra of Florida, and Michael (Mary) Putra of Suffield; daughter, Regina Blaz of Florida; sister, Slava Huis of Croatia; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter. Her husband of 58 years, Anton, died previously. A daughter, Katharina Graham, grandson, Fred Blaz, and a great-grandson also died previously. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Arnold Funeral Home, 504 W. Maple St., Hartville. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Randolph with the Rev. Edward Wieczorek officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Akron. Donald Robert Miller
STOW - Donald Robert Miller, 84, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998. He was born Dec. 12, 1914 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Mr. Miller was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II where he served as a staff sergeant. He worked for Rubbermaid where he retired after 33 years of service. He won many awards as district sales manager. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and the Holy Name Society at St. Joseph Church in Cuyahoga Falls. He enjoyed his dachshunds, golfing, gardening and trips to Canada. Survivors include his wife, Florence, to whom he had been married for 50 years; son, Donald Robert II (Sandy Holata); daughters, Amy (Jeff) Oxley of Cuyahoga Falls, Gerry of Boulder, Colo. and Pamela (Gary) Felton of Kent; three grandchildren; and sister, Sophie Kaye (Harold) of Del Ray Beach, Fla. His parents; brothers, Stan and Barry; and sister, Anne, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls, where a private service for the family will be held Wednesday. Wayne E. Beery
Wayne E. Beery, 72, of Ravenna, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998. Born Feb. 22, 1926 in Ravenna, he was the son of Ralph and Laura (White) Beery. He was a life Ravenna resident. Mr. Beery retired in 1974 from the Portage County Engineer's office where he was a records clerk. He was a member of the Charlestown United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, the former Dorothy Skilton, to whom he had been married the past 46 years; son, John, of Ravenna; stepdaughter, Patricia Munz, of Cape Coral, Fla.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Justine Ribelin of Ravenna. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Norma Bates officiating. Frederic Schoettler
Frederic F. Schoettler, 66, of Kent, a retired Kent State University music faculty member whose career included a critically acclaimed debut recital at Carnegie Recital Hall, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at Akron General Medical Center. Born Dec. 1, 1931 in Chicago, Ill., the son of Frank and Frieda Schoettler. A graduate of Northwestern University and the Juilliard School of Music, he studied with Stefan Bardas, Arnold Schultz and Joseph Raieff. Mr. Schoettler was professor emeritus of music (piano) at Kent State University, retiring in 1995. He performed extensively as a soloist, with orchestra and in chamber music ensembles, such as The Kent Trio, and gave a critically acclaimed debut recital at Carnegie Recital Hall. Since 1976, he had performed widely with his wife as the duo-piano team of Schoettler & Dye. They performed on the community concert series around the country, and their recordings on the Orion label have met with enthusiastic response. While living in New York, he was organist and choir master for two different Catholic churches and also played premiere compositions for several 20th century composers. He was a computer enthusiast with his own web site, (http://w3.gwis.com/~fschoett/index/htm) related to piano. He also wrote the site for the KSU School of Music. He also enjoyed gardening and graphic design. Survivors include his wife, Theresa "Terry" (Dye), to whom he was married for 19 years; son, Peter of New York; daughter, Elise Clancy of Vermont; two grandchildren; mother, Frieda Schoettler of Kent; and brother, Francis of Kent. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursdsay at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Kent, with the Rev. Elain Strawn officiating.

Freda Erbe
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Newton Falls United Methodist Church for Florence Freda Erbe, 79, who died unexpectedly Sunday, August 16, 1998 at her home in Ravenna. Born, May 10, 1919 in Barnesville, Pa., she was the daughter of John G. and Anna G. (Faust) Kleindenst. A former resident Newton Falls and Paris Township, she had lived in Ravenna for 19 years. Mrs. Erbe had worked at Mahanay Township High School in Pa., Atlas Powder Co. at the Ravenna Arsenal and as a substitute teacher in the Southeast School District. She also worked part-time at Longmeadow Care Center and at Burger King in Ravenna. She was a graduate of Catawba College in North Carolina with a bachelor's degree in home economics. She was a member of Newton Falls United Methodist Church and past guardian of Job's Daughters of the Bethel No. 39 in Newton Falls, a member of Leading Star Chapter No. 79, Order of the Eastern Star, where she had held several offices; and a member and past noble grand of Newton Falls Rebecca Lodge No. 311, which presented her with its Decoration of Chivalry. She was a charter member and past president of Veterans of Foreign Wars Woman's Auxiliary No. 3332, a member and past president of the United Methodist Women's Association and a member of the Ravenna Heritage Association. She had volunteered in the Resource Center at the Southeast Schools. Survivors include her sons, Russell (Beth) of Paris Township, Frank (Barbara) of Newton Falls and John (Melanie) of Palmyra; daughters, Charlotte Ann Erbe of Avon, Carolyn (Dennis) Sari of Paris and Freida (Don) Boland of Rootstown; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her husband, Russell Edward Erbe, whom she married May 17, 1941, died Jan. 3, 1975. Visitation will be held at Newton Falls United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Thursday. Arrangements were made by James Funeral Home in Newton Falls.

Steve Lukacic
Steve Lukacic, 73, of 302 Superior St., Newton Falls, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998 at St. Joseph's Eastland in Warren. Born Jan. 2, 1925 in Newton Falls, he was the son of Pete and Stephanie (Lenarcic). He was a liferesident of Newton Falls. Mr. Lukacic was a letter carrier with the Newton Falls Post Office for 26 years and a Newton Falls police officer for 15 years. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Newton Falls Amvets and the American Legion. He also was a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union and First Church of Godin Newton Falls. He enjoyed gardening and watching sports on TV. Survivors include his sons, Robert L. of Kent and Brad of Newton Falls; daughters, Mrs. Steven (Linda) Triplett of Atwater and Laurie Perkowski of Ravenna; three grandchildren; and sister, Mrs. Cal (Mary) Persino of Warren. His wife, Wanda (Finnical),whom he married Dec. 24, 1953, died Oct. 18, 1992. Visitation will be held from noon until services at 1 p.m. Wednesday at James Funeral Home in Newton Falls. Burial will be in Newton Falls Cemetery.

Patricia Lewis
Patricia L. Lewis, 71, of Ravenna, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998. Born May 29, 1927 in Cleveland, she was the daughter of Nelson and Charlotte (Greene) Hayes. Mrs. Lewis was a homemaker and she had worked alongside her husband, Elmer. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ravenna. Survivors include her sons, Keith (Kris) and Kenneth (Diane), both of Ravenna, and Kevin (Sue) of Rootstown; daughter, Mrs. Karen (Dennis) Andrei of Rootstown; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, David Hayes of Hiram and W. Eugene Hayes of California. Her husband, Elmer; brother, Cecil; and sister, Anita, died previously. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna. Memorials may be made to the Robinson Memorial Hospital Hospice.

Grover C. Hanna
Grover C. Hanna, 77, of Ravenna died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998. Born June 24, 1921 in Akron, he was the son of Grover and Amy Olive (Fye) Hanna. Mr. Hanna retired from Portage Plumbing in 1983. He was a member of the Ravenna Moose Lodge No.1234, and a former member of the Portage County Sheriff's Posse. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his sons, James, Robert (Rebecca), Edwin Sr. (Judy) and Ricky (Dody), all of Ravenna; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, James Hankins of Cuyahoga Falls; and sister, Helen Sargent of Florida. His wife, Doris; son, Larry; and sisters, Mary, Ruth and Fritz, died previously. Edward Ruester
Edward H. Ruester, 69, of Kent, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at his home after a long illness. Born Feb. 27, 1929 in Central City, Ky., he was the son of Edward P. and Ada Mae (Ritchie) Ruester. He had lived most of his life in Atwater before moving to Kent five years ago. He was a member of the Greenskeeper Association and a U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include his daughter, Gretchen Brown of Kent; stepdaughters, Nancy Hitchings and Bobbie Pritchard, both of California; one grandchild; and sisters, Louise Wirbel of California and Helen Pittman of Atwater. His brothers, Fred and Buren, died previously. Leona "Granny" Allen, 72, the mother of two area men, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998. Survivors include her sons, John Jr. (Linda) and Jerry, both of Atwater, Louis of Reno, Nev., Jim (Della) of American Fork, Utah, Corky (Cindy) and Elmer, both of Phoenix; daughter, Liz (Ken) Cameron of Puyallup, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Her husband, John Sr., and son, Frank, died previously. Private services will be held.

Clara Catherine Stettin
Clara Catherine Stettin, 86, of Sagamore Hills, the mother of Mayor Sally Henzel of Streetsboro, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at University Hospital in Cleveland. Born Nov. 16, 1911 in Poland, she had been a resident of Sagamore Hills for 25 years. Mrs. Stettin was a meat cutter for a grocery store. In addition to Mayor Henzel, survivors include four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Her husband, Emil; and daughter, Lorna Kovarik, died previously. Mary Elizabeth Mika
EDINBURG - Mary Elizabeth Mika, 74, died Tuesday, August 18, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born Oct. 10, 1923 in Randolph, she was the daughter of Harry and Irene (Moon) Bower. She had lived in Edinburg for most of her life. Mrs. Mika worked as a cook for Kent State University until she retired in 1989. She was a member of New Testament Baptist Church in Ravenna. Survivors include her sons, Jerry of Snellsville, Ga. and Jack of Edinburg; daughters, Mary Ann Paisley of Calif., Kitty Rakosi of Ravenna, Cindy Brugmann of Rootstown and Judy Gatten of Edinburg; 17 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert of Rootstown, Richard of Rootstown, Harry "Stub" of Ravenna and Tom of Tallmadge; and sisters, Betty Tilden of Ravenna and Dorothy Barnsworth of Atwater. Her husband, Michael and brother, Whitey, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Frank P. Wolonsky
SUFFIELD - Frank P. Wolonsky, 62, died unexpectedly Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at his home. Born Aug. 22, 1935 in Central City, Pa., he was the son of Michael and Julia Wolonsky. Mr. Wolonsky retired from General Tire in 1982 after 30 years of service. He was a member of Mogadore Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8487 and Mogadore Moose Lodge No. 1082. Survivors include his wife, JoAnn, to whom he was married 37 years; sons, Michael (Lisa) of Houston, Texas, and Mark (Ronda) of Grass Valley, Calif.;daughter, Linda of Akron; three grandchildren; brothers, Michael (Margie) of Binghampton, N.Y. and Nick (Kathy) of Akron; sisters, Mary Medford of Green and Jo (Bernie) Warrender of Seattle, Wash. Four brothers and one sister died previously. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mogadore United Methodist Church. Ruby M. Justice, 89, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 1998, at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna after a long illness. Born in Chloe, W. Va, she lived most of her life in Akron. Survivors include her sons, James V.of Brimfield, Robert L. (Ellie) of Stow, Franklin (Blanche) of Ravenna and Charles R. (Martha) of Akron; daughters, Arlene (James) Pinegar of Barberton and Janice (Sam) Triscori of Stow; 32 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. Her husband, James, and son Joseph, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home in Akron, where services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, with Pastor Keith Emhoff officiating. Services will be held Thursday for Edward H. Ruester, 69, of Kent, who died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998 at his home following a long illness. Born Feb. 27, 1929 in Central City, Ky., he was the son of Edward P. and Ada Mae (Ritchie) Ruester. He had lived most of his life in Atwater before moving to Kent five years ago. Mr. Ruester worked for many years as the greenskeeper at Oak Grove Golf Course in Atwater. He had retired from the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services in Ravenna. He was a member of the Greenskeeper Association. He was a U.S. Army veteran. MOGADORE - Services will be held Thursday for Ashley Elizabeth Demboski, 10, who died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, following a boating accident at West Branch State Park. Born in Akron, she was the daughter of Dan and Jennifer Demboski. Ashley was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church.She enjoyed rock climbing and running endurance races with her father, as well as crocheting, camping, Rollerblading and swimming. In addition to her parents, survivors include her sister, Jessica, at home; and grandfathers, Clement Jordan of Suffield and William Boyd of Akron. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home in Mogadore, where a wake service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Randolph, with the Rev. William Dubinsky, 74
ROOTSTOWN - William G. Dubinsky, 74, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, in Akron General Medical Center. Born Dec. 16, 1923, in Robins, Ohio, he was the son of Joseph and Anna (Mehok) Dubinsky. He had been a Rootstown resident since 1952. Mr. Dubinsky retired from Chrysler Corp. in Twinsburg. He was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Mogadore and Ravenna Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1055. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Helen (Machisko) to whom he was married 51 years; son, Bill (Melody) of Rootstown; daughter, Paula of Brecksville; three grandchildren; brother, Joseph of Ravenna; and sister, Madeline Francis of Ravenna. His brothers, Theodore and Leon, and sisters, Anna Bozigar and Margaret Francis, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Joanne C. Pugsley, 65
Joanne C. Pugsley, 65, of Ravenna, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born Sept. 2, 1932 in Cleveland, she had lived in Solon before moving to Ravenna 10 years ago. Mrs. Pugsley enjoyed a variety of crafts. Survivors include her daughters, Carol (William) Friday of Cedar Park, Texas and Colleen (Dale) Reed of Bedford Heights; son, Richard (Martha) of Newburgh Heights; seven grandchildren; and mother, Eleanor Houba. Clarence "Ed" McCoy, 76
Clarence E. "Ed" McCoy, 76, of Alliance, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at his home. Born June 9, 1922 in Richmond, W.V., he was the son of Clarence and Maggie (Crookshanks) McCoy. He had lived in the Alliance and Randolph areas since 1950. Mr. McCoy worked as a retired heavy equipment operator for the Ohio Department of Transportation in Ravenna until he retired. He attended Marlboro Christian Church and was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1055 in Ravenna. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Beatrice (Newson), whom he married Feb. 14, 1946; daughters, Lynn Alvis of Akron and Kathi Citino of Alliance; three grandchildren; and sister, Marie Newson of Alliance. His brothers, Robert "Bob" and Clyde, and sister, Mayne McCoy, died previously. Visitation will be held from noon until services at 1 p.m. Friday at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home, 1000 S. Union Ave., Alliance. The Rev. Eric Crites will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Randolph.
