STREETSBORO - Services will be held at today for Steve Z. Steven, 75, who died Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998, at Maple Wood Care Center in Streetsboro.
There will be no calling hours. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel, with the Rev. Carl Holm officiating. There will be a private burial.
Patrcia Spalding
Patricia Ann Spalding, 80, the mother of Frances Whited of Hiram, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998, at The Ledges in Rockynol in Akron.
Born April 24, 1918 in Logan, W. Va., she was the daughter of Walter and Anna (Flaherty) Perry. She had been a resident of Charleston, W.Va., for over 70 years before moving to Akron six years ago.
Mrs. Spalding was a homemaker. She was an accomplished baker, seamstress, gardener, fisher, and brewer of homemade beer.
She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Charleston.
Survivors include her sons, William of West Palm Beach, Fla., Kevin (Sue) Spalding Jr. of Ward, W.Va; daughters, Frances (Joseph) Whited of Hiram, Margaret Spalding Hayes of West Palm Beach, Fla., Elizabeth (Jesus) Spalding of Champaign, Ill., Martha Spalding of St. Albans, W. Va.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Her husband, Thomas K., to whom she was married for 53 years, died in 1990. A grandson, Thomas K. Spalding III, died in 1998.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m.Tuesday Nov. 10 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Charleston W.Va. Private family burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park in St. Albans, W.Va. Green's Funeral Home in Mantua is handling arrangements.

Joel Johnson
Joel W. Johnson, 18, of Bainbridge, died Sunday Nov. 1, 1998, in an automobile accident.
Born in Circleville, he was the son of Clint Johnson and Bethany (Payne) Johnson. He grew up in Bainbridge and was a 1998 graduate of Kenston High School.
Mr. Johnson was studying psychology at West Virginia University. He was employed for the past two summerts at Breezewood Gardens in Bainbridge.
Survivors include his father, Clinton of Solon; mother, Bethany of Aurora; brother, Ryan Rehl of Columbus; sister Robin Rehl of West Virginia; and grandparents, Janet and Ralph Fry of Newark, Janet DeFrischia of Baltimore, Ohio, and William Payne of Louisiana.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Kindrich-McHugh Steinbauer Funeral Home, 33375 Bainbridge Road, Solon. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Martin Episcopal Church, 6295 Chagrin River Road. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery.

Edith Roberts
Edith L. Roberts, 88, of 17948 Glendale Drive, Lake Milton, died Monday Nov. 2, 1998, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.
Born July 22, 1910 in Ossian, Ind., she was the daughter of Walter and Mary (Hartman) Price. She had lived in Newton Falls before moving to Lake Milton one year ago.
She was a member of First Christian Church of Newton Falls and a former member of the Grange in Wayland. She enjoyed flowers.
Survivors include her sisters, Edna Barnard and Lela Burgess, both of Lakeland, Fla.; and Marylin Riffee, with whom she resided. Her husband, Raymond, whom she married May 10, 1934, died June 18, 1994. A son, Richard, also died previously.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until services at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at James Funeral Home in Newton Falls. Burial will be in Hawley Cemetery in Paris Township.
Joseph Kaminski
Former Kent resident Joseph P. Kaminski of Munster, Ind., died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Born in Kent in 1924, he was the son of Peter and Katie Kaminski of Kent.
Mr. Kaminski was a registered professional engineer and retired from an executive position with Inland Steel Co. He also was a building commissioner in Munster, Ind.
He was past president of the Northwest Indiana Society of Professional Engineers; member of Governor's Board of Boilers and Pressure Vessels; St. Margaret's Hospital Institutional Review Board; and Munster Police/Fire Commission, Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his sons, Peter of Norman, Okla., Bryan of Indianapolis, Ind. and Mark (Leigh Ann) of Buffalo, Minn.; daughters, Megan (Steven) Widmer of Farmington, Minn. and Ellen of Highland, Ind.; four grandchildren; brothers, Edward of Kent and James of Millville, N.J.; and sister, Lydia Yamokoski of St. Petersburg, Fla. His wife, Margaret (Sawyer) died March 8, 1994. His brothers, Alfred, Vincent and Arthur; and sister, Joan Piltz, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Church in Kent. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.

Beatrice Christy
MOGADORE - Beatrice Faye (Jones) Christy, 77, died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998.
Born in Middleport, Ohio, she was the daughter of Harley and Donna Jones. She lived in the Rootstown area for 32 years until moving to Mogadore in 1987.
Mrs. Christy retired from Crest Rubber Co. after 26 years of service.
She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in Tallmadge.
Survivors include her sons, Richard of Columbus, Bernard (JoAnn) of Mogadore and Jeffrey of Florida; daughters, Sarah Siebert of Rootstown, Ruth (Joe) Woodell of Munroe Falls, Linda (David) Rosenberger and Melody Strahler, both of Rootstown, and Deborah (Thomas) Lamb of Texas; 28 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; brother, Carl Jones of Michigan; and sisters, Clara DeWeese of Kent and Pauline Konkle of Arizona. Her husband, Albert, died in 1990. Her brothers, William and Marvin Jones, sister, Grace Mobley, three grandsons and one great-granddaughter died previously.

David Harvey
David A. Harvey, 43, who served as envoy of the Salvation Army in Ravenna, died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998.
Born in Akron, he had lived in Boston and Long Island, N.Y., before returning to the area in 1984. He graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy in 1975 and attended John Carroll University in Cleveland and Gannon State University in Erie, Pa.
Mr. Harvey was a member of the Salvation Army and was employed as a lay minister. He was instrumental in organizing the Salvation Army's New Life Chapel on Beecher Street in Ravenna.
He was a member of the Ravenna Rotary Club and the Ravenna Ministerial Association.
Survivors include hise wife, Darlene S. (Navecky); son, David A.; daughter, Alexis C.; parents, Major and Mrs. Edward (Mary) Harvey of Cuyahoga Falls; brother, Edward Jr. (Jill) of Cuyahoga Falls; and sister, Deborah (Brooke) Kilpatrick of Cuyahoga Falls. A son, Andred David, died in 1994.

Douglas Osborne
Douglas D. Osborne, 73, of Rockwell Street, Kent, who owned and operated Triangle Appliance in Kent for 50 years, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998, at his home.
Born Oct. 29, 1925 in Suffield, he was the son of Wilbur C. and Lucille M. (Wise) Osborne.
Mr. Osborne was a member of the Kent Kiwanis Club.
He was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy (Kennedy), whom he married Jan. 1, 1942; sons, Douglas (Janis) of Suffield and Kelly of Kent; daughters, Patricia (Michael) Kensinger of Randolph, Megan (Brad) Heideman of Auburn and Susan of Kent; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. His brother, Wilbur C. "Bill," died in 1983.

STREETSBORO - Rudy M. Sossa, 67, died Wednesday Nov. 4, 1998, at Maplewood Care Center in Streetsboro.
Born April 16, 1931 in Cleveland, he was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Pollock) Sossa. He had lived in Streetsboro for 42 years.
Mr. Sossa was an extrusion operator for Furon until he retired in 1992. He also owned RM and S Sales and Service in Streetsboro.
He was a member of the St. Joan of Arc Church in Streetsboro. He also was an avid ham radio operator. His radio call letters were KG8YD.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce (Fultz), whom he had been married to for 47 years; sons, Michael (Jean) of Kent, David (Debbie) of Kent, Wayne (Karen) of Nelson; daughters, Vicky (John) Hayduke of Streetsboro, Joyce (Kreg) Krebs of Fredericksburg, Ohio; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Andrew of Euclid; sisters, Betty Rucinski, Helena Sossa, and Helen Szaraz. His brothers, John and Joe, and sister, Jerry, died previously.

AKRON - Margaret Fay Speaks, 64, of Darrow Road, Akron, a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Randolph, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at her home.
Born June 11, 1934 in Cullman, Ala., she was the daughter of Ancel and Mentha (Reed) Cochran.
Mrs. Speaks worked part-time at Hartville Laundromat. In addition to her membership in the church, she was very involved with her grandchildren and family.
Survivors include her sons, Jack (Carol) Cochran of Akron; James (Laura) Speaks of Suffield; daughters Deborah (Danny) Allen of Akron, Laura (Steve) Martin of Randolph; Patty Speaks of Ottawa, Ill., and Sharon (Roger) Ray of Uniontown; 15 grandchildren; and brother Geno Cochran of Akron. Her husband, James Speaks, died Feb. 15, 1986.

NELSON TOWNSHIP - Janet L. Smolensky, 33, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, at University Hospital of Cleveland in the Ireland Cancer Center following a battle with cancer.
Born Jan. 23, 1965 in Pittsburgh, Pa., she was the daughter of Robert and Patricia (Perrino) Smolensky.
Miss Smolensky worked as a billing supervisor at Caliber Logistics in Twinsburg.
Survivors include son, Matthew LaPinta; father, Robert Smolensky of Espyville, Pa.; maternal grandfather, Peter Perrino of Irwin, Pa.; sister, Diane Bishoff of Atlanta, Ga.; and Jay Hawkins. Her mother, Patricia (Perrino) Smolensky, died previously.

MESA, Ariz. - Ilona (Macsan) Bernhard, 86, of Phoenix, Ariz., died Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998, at the Hearthstone Nursing Home in Mesa, Arizona.
Born Aug. 13, 1912 in Romania, she was a resident of Cleveland before moving in with her son in Phoenix.
Mrs. Bernhard worked as a knitting machine operator in Cleveland.
Survivors include her son, Tibor "Ted" of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Her husbands, Jozsef Bernhard and Sandor Kapitany; son, Joseph; and granddaughter, Kathy Bernhard died previously.

Albert M. Nye
Albert M. Nye Sr., 85, of 566 Braceville Robinson Road, Braceville, died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at Laurie Ann Nursing Home in Newton Falls.
Born July 23, 1913 in Fort Wayne, Ind., he was the son of Frank and Emma (Magley) Nye. He lived in Braceville all his life.
Mr. Nye was a retired steelworker at Republic Steel, and a retired teacher at Braceville High School, where he coached basketball, baseball and track. He served on the Braceville Board of Education, Trumbull County Board of Education and Trumbull County Joint Vocational School Board of Education
He was a member of Braceville United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School. He was a member of the Braceville Lions Club, and Braceville Grange.
He played varsity baseball at Kent State University and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.
Survivors include his wife, Anne (Domynach), whom he married Dec. 5, 1935; son, Albert M. Jr. of Newton Falls; daughters, Mitzi Hanze of Newton Falls, and Mrs. Andrew (Diane) Emmerth of Cortland; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Frank Jr. of North Olmsted; and sister, Mary Jane Thomas of Boynton Beach, Fla. His son, Michael; brother, John; and sister, Dorothy Monroe, died previously.

Former Ravenna resident Patricia A. Shank, 58, of Cuyahoga Falls, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998, at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital.
Born Nov. 13, 1939 in Rootstown, she was the daughter of Arnold and Mary (Workman) Williams. She had lived in Cuyahoga Falls for 13 years.
Mrs. Shank was a bookkeeper at Revco in Twinsburg.
She was a member of The Church of God in Ravenna.
Survivors include her husband, Richard; son, Shawn Rogers of Ravenna; daughter, Sandra Rogers of Houston, Tx.; one grandchild; mother, Mary Williams of Ravenna; brothers, Louis "Sonny" (Anne) of Rootstown, and Roy "Buddy" (Donna) of Defiance; and sister, Carol (Dave) Walters of Orange Calif.
