Harriet "Pat" J. Bear, 86, of Ashland, Ohio, died Friday Dec. 4, 1998. Bertha Hogue
MANTUA _Bertha Mae Hogue, 69, died Wednesday Dec 2, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a long illness. Born Sept. 10, 1929 in Ashland, Ohio, she was the daughter of Clifford and Loetta (McHenry) Udell. She was a resident of Akron from 1957 to 1973; Uniontown, Ohio from 1973 to 1980; and the Mantua and Aurora area since 1980. Mrs. Hogue owned and operated beauty shops, first in Akron, then in Uniontown, until she retired in 1980. She was a member of His Ministry of Aurora, where she was active with the church Gospel Team, ministering to nursing homes, member of the church choir, and church fellowship bowling league for several years. She also enjoyed knitting, crafts and crocheting, and was active with several bowling teams while living in Akron. Survivors include her husband Eugene "Gene", whom she married Sept. 23, 1957; sons, Doyle (Jane) of Streetsboro, Norton (Mary) Auble of Hartville, Ohio; daughter, Michael (Gena) Komrada of Aurora; four grandchildren; and brother, Leslie (Rev. Florence) Udell of Aurora. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday Dec. 9 at His Ministry, 3051 S.R. 82, Aurora, where services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Florence Udell officiating. A private burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Westlawn Cemetery in Mantua Township. Arrangements are being handled by Green's Funeral Home in Mantua.

Robert Morris
Robert "Bob" V. Morris, 69, of Warren, died Friday Dec. 4, 1998, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Born July 19, 1929 in Belington, W.Va., he was the son of John and Georgia Ann (Austin) Morris. Mr. Morris was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Louis "Lou" (DelFavro); sons, Gregory of Prescott, Ariz., Donnie of Cambridge, Ohio, Eric of Cuyahoga Falls; daughter, Debbie Voelker of Warren, Ohio; two grandchildren; step-daughter, Lindy Foster of Homeworth; two step-grandchildren; brother, Holland of New Brighton, Pa., Richard of Bedford, Ohio, Rev. David of Elizabeth, W.Va.; sisters, Ruth Morrison of Parkersburg, W.Va., Rosie Bennett of Newton Falls, and Jean Osburn of Buckhannon, W.Va. His brother, Paul, died previously. Lucille Mason
BRIMFIELD - Lucille Frances Mason, 84, died Friday Dec. 4, 1998, at Akron General Medical Center in Akron. Born Nov. 13, 1914 in Akron, she was the daughter of George and Daisy Reiber. Mrs. Mason was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church of Brimfield. Survivors include her daughters, Roberta Smith of Cuyahoga Falls, Linda White of Clinton and Barbara (James) Pigott of Akron; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, George (Molly) Reiber of Florida, and Ray Reiber of Akron. Lawrence Ketzell
Lawrence V. Ketzell, 68, of Ravenna Township, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998. Born May 24, 1930 in Sardis, Ohio, he was the son of William H. and Ethel J. (Stewart) Ketzell. He had been a Ravenna Township resident since 1953. Mr. Ketzell was a machine operator at Colonial Rubber Co. in Ravenna until he retired. A U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of Ravenna Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1055 and Ravenna American Legion Post No. 331. He also was a member of Ravenna Eagles Aerie No. 2164. Survivors include his brother, Harry of Mount Vernon, Ohio; and sisters, Roletta and Grace both, of Ravenna. His brother, Earl, and sisters, Ruth Leavengood, Alice Keith, Mary Longacre, and Madelyn White, died previously. There will be no calling hours. Gravside services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Bilza officiating.. Arrangements were made by Shorts Funeral Home in Ravenna.

Robert Folk
Robert Folk, 71, of Ravenna, died Tuesday Dec. 8, 1998, at his home. He was born Nov. 17, 1927 in Akron. Mr. Folk was known for his love of gardening and Christmas decorating and had won many awards for both. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his sons, Jeff (Robbie) and Mike (Becki); daughter, Judy (Bob) Kehoe; three grandchildren; and former wife, Helen. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were made by Farley Funeral Home of Akron.

Elizabeth Nicholson
Elizabeth S. Nicholson loved children and enjoyed teaching so much that she became a substitute teacher in the Southeast Primary School even after she retired from her regular teaching job there. Monday she died doing what she loved to do - helping children to learn to read, write and do arithmetic. When she collapsed, the school nurse and another teacher gave her C.P.R. but could not revive her. She died with her friends around her and one of the teachers said, "It was a privilege to be a part of her life and also of her death." A moment of silence was observed at the school on Tuesday in her memory. Elizabeth S. Nicholson, 83, of 222 S. Broad Street, Canfield, was pronounced dead Monday afternoon at Robinson Memorial Hospital. She was born February 18, 1915 in Clearfield, Pa., a daughter of Alan O. and Elizabeth Snedden Sommerville. A graduate of Wilson College, Chambersburg, Pa., she had been an elementary teacher in the Southeast Local School District for 25 years, retiring in 1985. She continued to work as a substitute teacher for 13 years. Her husband, Jonathan R. Nicholson, whom she married June 10, 1939, died Oct. 2, 1961. Survivors include sons Jonathan R. Nicholson of Cypress, Texas and Robert A. Nicholson of Bowling Green, Ohio; daughters E. Jane Gibson of Canfield and Christina A. Smith of Stilwell, Kansas; brother, Alan J. Sommerville of Camp Hill, Pa.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A son, Donald K. Nicholson, a daughter Susan L. Nicholson and a sister Janet Sommerville died previously. Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Higgins Funeral Home, Mahoning Avenue, Austintown. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Southeast Elementary School library fund or the American Heart Association.

Louise Gould
Louise A. Gould, 73, a former area resident, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, of colon cancer in Colorado Springs, Colo. Born Nov. 7, 1925 in Pittsburgh, Pa., she moved to Colorado Springs 19 years ago. Mrs. Gould was a registered nurse. She had served as head nurse in the emergency room at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Survivors include her husband, Carl D., whom she married April 17, 1948; son, Mike of Kansas; and five grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held in Colorado. Memorials may be made to Pikes Peak Hospice in Colorado.

William Lang
Services will be held in Kent Saturday for former area resident William C. Lang, 80, of Isle of Palms, S.C., who died Friday, Dec. 4, 1998 in Mount Pleasant, S. C. Born Dec. 13, 1917, he was the son of James and Isabelle Lang. Mr. Lang was a retired chemical engineer with General Tire and Rubber Company in Akron. He was a graduate of Colorado School of Mines. He was also a master mason. Survivors includes sons Jim of Wooster and Bob of Newark; daughter Jenni Otterson of Belle, Fla.; stepson John Peck Jr. of Savannah, Ga.; stepdaughters Elizabeth Healy of Savannah, Ga. and Leslie Peck of Bloomington, Ind.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and brother Archie of Sandusky. Graveside services will be held at Standing Rock Cemetery at 1 p.m. Saturday. Arrangements were made by the J. Henry Stuhr Funeral Chapel in Mount Pleasant, S.C.

Thorald Booth Jr.
ROOTSTOWN - Thorald L. "Ted" Booth, Jr., 76, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1998, at Akron General Hospital. Born Oct. 24, 1922 in New York, he was the son of Thorald L. and Dorothy (Gumore) Booth. He had lived in Rootstown since 1966. Mr. Booth had worked at Davey Tree in Kent as a tree trimmer and in sales. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a member of the Western Whirlers Square Dance group and attended First United Methodist Church in Kent. Survivors include his wife, Lee; daughters, AnJane McConville of Louisville and Dr. Pat Manley of Vermont; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sisters, Beth Gurley and Darlene Bautaw, both of New York. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church Chapel in Kent, with the Rev. Kay Dunlap officiating. Dan Randall
Dan A. Randall, 88, of Lansing, Mich., died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998. Born Oct. 6, 1910 in Windham, he had lived in Lansing since 1940. Mr. Randall owned and operated Randall's Health Food Stores from 1948 until he retired in 1987. Survivors include his son, Thomas (Donna) of Lansing; daughter, Catherine (David) Williams of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; stepson, John (Jan) Shepler of Lansing; stepdaughter, Jean (Tom) Dart of Grand Ledge, Mich.; and sister-in-law, Gertrude Curry of Fayetteville, W.Va. His wives, Esther and June, stepdaughter, Beverly Beard, brother, Bruce Curry, and sister, Lenore Bonar died previously. Ada Hughes
Ada Wanna Hughes, 89, of Ravenna, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1998, at the Portage County Nursing Home in Shalersville, where she had lived for two years. Born July 23, 1909 in Claysville, Pa., she was the daughter of William and Jamine (Kidd) Hutchison. She had lived in Ravenna since 1915. Mrs. Hughes retired in 1962 from Vale Edge Flowers in Ravenna, where she was a floral designer. She was a member of First Christian Church of Ravenna. Survivors include her son, William I. of Ravenna; daughter, Joyce (Ronald) Shriver of Ravenna; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister, Ruby Solitro of Ravenna. Her husband, William, died in 1976. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Thursday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. The Dr. Russell Goldner will officiate.

Darwin V. "Bud" Klaiss
Darwin V. "Bud" Klaiss, 82, of Cape Coral, Fla., died Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998, at Cape Coral Hospital after a brief illness. Born April 19, 1916 in McCutcheonville, he was the son of Lloyd and Lula (Detray) Klaiss. Formerly of Chagrin Falls, he had been a resident of Cape Coral since 1978. Mr. Klaiss was a retired supervising custodian for the Cleveland Board of Education. He was a member of the Masons, the Shriners and O.E.S. of Garrettsville. He was also an avid golfer. Survivors include his son, Frederick L. (Gail Myers) of CIncinnati; daughter, Diane V. (Theron) Snell of Racine Wis.; stepsons, William and Robert Cheely of Cleveland; and one grandson. His first wife, Winifred J. (Judson) Klaiss died in 1976 and his second wife, Virginia, died in 1990. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home, Garrettsville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Gerald M. Sanders and the Rev. Perry M. Bennett
WINDHAM - Perry M. Bennett, 62, of Windham and Palm Bay, Fla. died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998, at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Fla. Born, March 21, 1936 in Erie, Pa., he was the son of Curtis and Ethel (Green) Bennett. He had been a Windham resident since 1980. Mr. Bennett was a former owner-operato of B&B Auto Wrecking in Ravenna and A1 Auto Wrecking in Windham. Survivors include sons Bill, Ted, and Perry, all of Windham, and Leroy of West Virginia; daughter, Tracy Moehler of Palm Bay, Fla., 13 grandchildren, and companion, Lois Dean of Palm Bay, Fla. Maude Irene Farnbauch
Maude Irene Farnbauch, 95, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998, at the Portage County Nursing Home in Shalersville. Born July 1, 1903 in Deshler, she was the daughter of Harry and Bessie (Ward) White. She had lived in Randolph most of her life. She was a member of the St. Joseph Church of Randolph, the Randolph Garden Club, the Randolph Hobby Club, the Randolph 4-H Club and the St.Joseph Widow's Club. Survivors include sons, Clare (Dee) LaRocque of Black Horse and Edward (Linda) Farnbauch Jr. of Akron; daughters, Mrs. George (Betty) Shepherd of Ravenna and Mrs. Paul (Charlotte) Marker of Kent; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard White of Oakland, Cal., Gene (Frances) White of Berrien Springs, Mich. and Charles White of Niles, Mich.; and sister, Evelyn Theirbach of Berrien Springs, Mich. Her husband, Edward Farnbauch Sr., son, Jack Weaver; daughter, Verna Thompson; and sister, June Cully all died previously. There will be no calling hours. Mary Jane Keller
Mary Jane Keller, 76, of Brady Lake Road in Kent, died Thursday, Dec. 10, 1998, at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Born July 12, 1922 in Tulsa, Okla., she was the daughter of Charles and Anna Crotchett. Mrs. Keller was a member of Lake Brady United Methodist Church and secretary of the 600 Club. She also was a member of the Portage County Bowling Hall of Fame. Survivors include her husband, Edward R. "Ned;" sons, Robert C. of Columbus and Kevin (Sue) of Colorado; daughter, Linda (Gary) McKisson of Cuyahoga Falls; and two grandchildren. Two sisters died previously. Joseph Colosimo
Joseph A. Colosimo, 41, of Logan Street, Bedford, died Thursday, Dec. 10, 1998, at Metro Health Center in Cleveland of complications from an auto accident. Born April 4, 1957 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of Guido and Doris (Blanford) Colosimo. Mr. Colosimo was a mechanical technician at General Electric Lamp Plant in Ravenna. Survivors include his wife, Susan (Chuchalk), whom he married Aug. 17, 1996; son, Bryce, at home; mother, Doris of Ontario, Canada; brothers, Robert (Rosanne) and Peter (Renate), both of Niagara Falls, Ontario; and sisters, Eleonor (Randy) Meissner and Terry Eckert, both of Niagara Falls. Elsie C. Young, 81, of Cuyahoga Falls, died Friday, Dec. 10, 1998. Born May 28, 1917, she was the daughter of Mathias and Susanna Just. Mrs. Young made de-icers at B.F. Goodrich Co. and was a real estate agent. She worked as a real estate agent for Crawford Agency and Gillespie-Pilcher Realty, where she retired in 1982. Survivors include her brothers, Henry (Phyllis) of Brimfield and Richard (Mary) of Rootstown; sisters, Rose (Bud) Whitney of Garrettsville, Freda Fleshman of Ravenna and Erma (John) Bender of Rootstown. Former Suffield resident Marie H. Wohlwend, 95, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna. Born Sept. 3, 1903 in Suffield, she was the daughter of John F. and Veronica (Kline) Wohlwend. Miss Wohlwend was a member of St. Joseph Church in Randolph. Survivors include her sisters, Sr. Mary (Agnes) Verone SND of Chardon and Rita M. Randall of Stow. Her brothers, Joseph, Francis, Carl, John and Martin, and sisters, Catherine and Margaret, died previously. Ashley Nicole Plumley-Wright, infant daughter of Danyel Kennedy and Sarah Plumley of Ravenna, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998 at her Ravenna home. She was born Nov. 3, 1998 in Ravenna. In addition to her birth parents, survivors include her adoptive parents, Brian and Angie (Nutter) Wright of Ravenna; sisters, Kati Nutter, Angel Wright and Jade Plumley, all of Ravenna; grandparents, Karen Nutter, Roger Plumley and William Wright, all of Ravenna; and great-grandparents, Edward Schuman of Hudson and Mary Fox of Ravenna. STREETSBORO - Elvira Roberta (Steele) Albaugh, 81, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at her Streetsboro home. Born Feb. 1, 1917 in Fulton, Mo., she was the daughter of John R. and Elsie L. (Vollbracht) Steele. Mrs. Albaugh was a homemaker. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Streetsboro. Survivors include her sons, John (Ann) Deely of LaFayette, Ind., Albert M. II of Streetsboro and Michael (Pam) of Kent; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her husband, Albert M., died Feb. 17, 1997. Coy Cooley
STOW - Coy Cooley Sr., 82, of Ravenna, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at Stow-Glen Nursing Home following a brief illness. Born Jan. 10, 1916 in Shalersville, he was the son of Bine and Bertha (Kuchenbecker) Cooley. A life resident of Portage County, Mr. Cooley worked as a farmer and plug cutter and was employed at Pyramid & Evenflo Rubber Co. Survivors include his sons, Charles (LaVerne) of Ravenna, and Coy Jr. of Akron; daughter, Bertha (Ronald) Hawkinberry of Dennison; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. His wife, Nellie J., died Sept. 13. His brother, Roy, died previously. Vivian B. Martz, 94
STOW - Vivian B. (Hillyer) Martz, 94, a former Atwater resident, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at Akron City Hospital following a short illness. Born Nov. 24, 1904 in Evansville, Ind., she was the daughter of Fred and Cora (Craft) Brashears. Mrs. Martz had worked as a postal clerk and with her husband at Hillyer's Market in Atwater. She was a member of Atwater United Methodist Church and attended First Christian Church of Stow. She also was a member of the Pythian Sisters, Order of Eastern Star-Palmy Chapter, where she served as past Worthy Matron, Stow Sunshiners and the American Association of Retired Persons. Survivors include her daughter, Sandra (Arvile) Conley of Stow; 12 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Her husbands, Earl Hillyer and John A. Martz; son, Orville Hillyer; and daughter, Jackie Loudin, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from noon until services at 1 p.m. Saturday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. The Rev. Al Boehlke will officiate.
