Freida Wareham
Freida G. Wareham, 80, of Braceville, died of cancer Feb. 10, 1999, at University Hospitals/Cleveland in Cleveland.
Born Jan. 25, 1919 in Colebrook, Ohio, she was the daughter of Charles and Mary (Neuburn) Hawkins. She had lived in the Braceville area since 1939.
Mrs. Wareham was a homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Brent (Carolyn) Minotti of Braceville, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her husband, William J., whom she married March 3, 1939, died June 10, 1972. Her brothers, Jack, Charles, Pete, Donald and George Hawkins, and sisters, Rose Jordan, Eva Boda and Mary Walters, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at James Funeral Home in Newton Falls, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Newton Falls.
Ralph Mabra
Ralph L. Mabra, 58, of Ravenna, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999.
Born Aug. 20, 1940, he was the son of Ralph Sr. and Ida (White) Mabra. He was a graduate of John Hay High School in Cleveland and also attended Cuyahoga Community College.
Mr. Mabra was employed with the Postal Inspection Service for 26 years.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
He was a member of the House of Prayer.
Survivors include his wife, Ollie; and aunts, Inez Jones of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Thelma Crochran of Elgin, Ill., and Helen Young of Springfield, Ohio.
Calling hours will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Boyd and Son Funeral Home, 25900 Emery Road, Warrensville Heights, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Gust Kaczur
AURORA - Gust S. Kaczur, 44, of Aurora, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at Maplewood Care Center in Streetsboro after a short illness.
Born Jan. 4, 1954 in Cleveland, he was the son of Gustav A. and Julie (Gyory) Kaczur.
A former resident of Maple Heights, he lived in Aurora since 1978. He was a graduate of Maple Heights High School and John Carroll University where he earned a bachelor's degree in accounting. He later earned his master's in accounting from Cleveland State University, then obtained a second master's degree in taxation from the University of Akron in June 1998.
Mr. Kaczur was employed as a taxation accountant. He was an avid reader.
Survivors include his mother, Julie, of Aurora. His father died in 1986.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Thomas McCarthy officiating. Burial will follow at Aurora City Cemetery.
Mary Jane Woods
Mary Jane Woods, 85, of Ravenna, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at Longmeadow Care Center.
Born March 7, 1913 in Ravenna, she was the daughter of Rae and Bertha (Littlejohn) Woods. She graduated from Ravenna High School in 1933 and from Kent State University in 1938.
Mrs. Woods taught art for various schools for 39 years, retiring from the Cuyahoga Falls School System.
She was a member of the Ravenna Sorosis and the Portage County Retired Teachers.
Survivors include her sisters, Jeanette Weber of Fort Myers, Fla. and Virginia James of Ravenna; and many nephews and nieces.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Ravenna.
Memorials may be made to the church.
Arrangements are being handled by the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.
Leona Cline
STREETSBORO - Leona Cline, 64, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, after a short illness.
Born Jan. 13, 1935 in Puritan, W.Va., she was the daughter of Ronald and Edna (Endicott) Allen. She was a Streetsboro resident since 1962.
Mrs. Cline worked in the dietary department at the Hattie Larlham Foundation.
She was a member of the Frost Road Chapel.
Survivors include her husband, Willie, to whom she had been married for 43 years; sons, William and Jason, both of Streetsboro; daughters, Jill Rebuck of Stow, Julie Costin of Naylor, Ga., and Amy Harless of Ravenna; six grandchildren; and Faye Smith of Texas.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Short's Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel where services will immediately follow with the Rev. Bruce Sellers officiating.
Harold Fugman
MANTUA - Harold William Fugman, 76, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at his residence.
Born May 24, 1922 in Mantua Township, he was a life resident there. He graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and also from Principia College in Elsah, Ill. with a Bachelor of Science degree.
Mr. Fugman worked his entire career as a design engineer, retiring several years ago.
Survivors include his wife, Doris; son, Varon Fugman of Madison Wis.; daughter, Trila Fugman of Godfrey, Ill.; one grandchild; and sisters, Ruth Kinney, Fern Clarke and Marian Madden. His brother, Frank Fugman, died previously.
No calling hours or services will be held. Arrangements were handled by Stroud-Lawrence Funeral Home in Chagrin Falls.
Dorothy M. Fritinger
MANTUA - Dorothy M. Fritinger, 85, of Mantua, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at DePaul Medical Center in Norfolk, Va.
Born Dec. 17, 1913 in Cuyahoga Falls, she was the daughter of William A. and Nancy (Timms) Booth. She had lived in Mantua since 1941.
Mrs. Fritinger worked 30 years as a cashier at O.C. Brown and retired after a 10-year period with Heinen's of Aurora.
She was a member of Mantua Center Christian Church and Mantua Center Garden Club; past president of Mantua Center Ladies Cemetery Association; treasurer of Mantua Historical Society and Daughters of America Council No. 316; counselor affiliated with District 14 drill team; and past deputy of John Jay and Brady chapters.
Survivors include her son, James H. (Nancy) of Aurora; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Walter Allen; and sister, Nancy Carol Nix. Her husband, Howard W., died in 1981. Her brothers, George and William, and sisters, Evelyn, Pearl and Norma, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel, where Daughters of America services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday and funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Roger Mize officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery in Mantua Center.

Martha M. (Crites) Baker Robinson
Martha M. (Crites) Baker Robinson, 81, of Newton Falls, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999 at St. Joseph Hospital in Warren.
Born May 3, 1917 in Braxton County, W.Va., she was the daughter of James M. and Lilly L. (Messenger) Crites. She was a former resident of Montana Mines, W.Va.
Mrs. Robinson was a homemaker. She was a member of Montana United Methodist Church in Montana Mines, W.Va.
Survivors include her sons, James Baker of Newton Falls, Archie Baker of Lake Milton and Allen H. Robinson of Ravenna; daughters, Sarah Eliason of Shinnston, W.Va., Martha Jane Johns of Lake Milton and Henrietta P. Caldwell of Ravenna; stepsons, Thomas J. Robinson, Robert R. Robinson and Joseph H. Robinson, all of Cleveland; stepdaughters, Jean G. Stackpole of Grant Town, W.Va., Silva V. Spencer of Lake Milton and Brenda J. Beverly of Four States, W.Va.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Dana P. Crites of North Carolina, James A. Crites of Newton Falls and Charles G. Crites of Windham; and sisters, Murrel M. Morgan and Nellie S. Wilson, both of Montana Mines, W.Va., and Lulabelle Priest of Fairmont, W.Va.; Her first husband, Jesse L. Baker, died previously. Her second husband, Henry D. Robinson, died Feb. 22, 1998. Jack L. Williams
SUFFIELD - Jack L. Williams, 60, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999.
Born June 11, 1938 in Cleveland, he was the son of Leslie and Helen (Metz) Williams.
A graduate of Ravenna High School, Mr. Williams moved to Suffield in 1979. He was employed by Ravenna Aluminum and was a member of Ellet Community Church of God. He served in the National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ann (Noble), whom he had been married to for almost 26 years; son, James John "J.J." of Suffield and daughter, Margie of Suffield. His parents died previously.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road, Akron, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. G. Rod Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Rittman Cemetery.

Josephine O'Neal
Josephine O'Neal, 72, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna.
Born April 9, 1926 in Cleveland, she was the daughter of Lawyer and Lela (McMichael) Longmier.
Mrs. O'Neal retired in 1987 from General Electric Co., where she worked for 13 years. She was a member of New Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Ravenna.
Survivors include her sons, Beaugard Jr. of Ravenna and Edward (Deborah) of Akron; daughters, Laura (Isaac) McDaniel, Edith Dickson and Clara (Odell) Graham, all of Joliet, Ill. Agnes of Akron and Nancy of Ravenna; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and brothers, Dennis (Carrie) Munson of Ravenna, Joe (Polly) Bailey of Akron and Walter (Rosa) Bailey of Almagardon, N.M. Her husband, Beaugard, died previously.
Visitation will be held from noon until services at 1 p.m. Wednesday at New Mount Calvary Baptist Church. The Rev. B.J. Grant will officiate. William "Bill A. Kruger
William "Bill" A. Kruger, 49, of Cline Road, Kent, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at Akron General Medical Center.
Born Oct. 1, 1949 in Ravenna, he was the son of Walter "Pete" A. and Barbara J. (Roderick) Kruger. He was a 1967 graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High School in Kent.
Mr. Kruger worked as a commercial salesman for Tallmadge Asphalt.
He was a member of the Kent Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ravenna Moose Lodge No. 1234 and the Home Builders Association.
Survivors include his wife, Carol (Kaminski); son, Kyle of Kent, daughter, Kammie of Kent; one grandchild; parents, Walter and Jo of Kent; brother, David (Diane) of Florida; mother-in-law, Jean Kaminski of Kent; and in-laws, Randy (Kathi) Meeker of Kent, Kevin (Karen) Artl of Stow. His mother, Barbara, died previously. His brother, Raymond Lee, died in 1996.

Shirley Scott
Shirley J. Scott, 60, of Shalersville, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at Akron General Medical Center.
Born Sept. 16, 1938 in New Matamoras, Ohio, she was the daughter of Harvey Earl and Pearl Ellen Dunn.
She was a Shalersville resident for 30 years.
Mrs. Scott retired in 1994 from the Portage County Nursing Home.
Survivors include her husband, Charles, to whom she had been married for the past 46 years.; son, Greg of Mantua; daughters, Sheryl Norsen and Rhonda Scott, both of Ravenna, and Sandra Shipper of Irvine, Calif.; nine grandchildren; four brothers, and a sister.

Ruby Drake
Ruby J. Drake, 81, of Warren, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, of natural causes at St. Joseph's Eastland Hospital in Warren.
Born Sept. 29, 1917 in Clay, W. Va., she was the daughter of Romey and Ada (Rose) West. She had lived in the Warren and Newton Falls area most of her life.
Mrs. Drake was a homemaker. She loved to read, crochet, garden, and cook.
Survivors include her son, Robert D. of Leavittsburg; daughter, Judy Carrothers of Carriere, Miss.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Hattie Justice of Ravenna, Mrs. Fanny Moore of Belle, W. Va., Mrs. William (Vera) Hammond of Thompson; and foster brother, Harry Deaner of Florida. Her husband, Virgil V., whom she married in 1945, died in 1981. Her daughter, Nelma (Jean) King; a grandson; and brothers, Calvin, Bernard, and Cleavert West, died previously.

Alain Finet
AURORA - Alain Finet, 57, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at home after a short illness.
Born June 15, 1941 in the Dominican Republic, he was the son of Rene and Claude Finet. He previously was a resident of Newbury and Bainbridge.
Mr. Finet was a long-time manager of the service department at Stock Equipment Co.
He received his bachelor's degree from Case Institute of Technology and a master's degree in business administration from Case Western Reserve University.
Survivors include his wife, Sally; sons, Marc of Aurora, Jean-Paul of Columbus; daughter, Denise Finet of Columbus; mother, Claude of the Dominican Republic; and sister, Yannick Grullon of the Dominican Republic. His father, Rene, died previously.
Services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at The Church in Aurora, 146 S. Chillicothe Road, with the Rev. Kevin Horak officiating. Arrangements were handled by Stroud-Lawrence Funeral Home in Chagrin Falls.
Memorials may be made to The Church in Aurora or the Newbury United Community Church.
Ralph Phillips
Ralph H. Phillips Sr., 77, of Cortland, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at home after a short illness.
Born April 20, 1921 in Charlestown, he was the son of Floyd and Audrey (Bradfield) Phillips. He had lived in Windham for 50 years.
Mr. Phillips was a property appraiser at Clem-Shaw Appraisals and also worked at the Love Funeral Home in Cortland for many years.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy where he was an electricians mate second class.
He was a member of the United Dowsers Association and also enjoyed farming, gardening, reading, and dowsing.
Survivors include his wife, Helen (Virag), whom he married Nov. 15, 1951; sons, Ralph Jr. and Frank "PeeWee" both of Mecca, Floyd "Ted" of Fowler, and Louie of Vernon; daughters, Mrs. Roger (Helen) Leigh of Greene, Georgia M. Phillips and Wilma Phillips both of Mecca; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Donald of Cortland; and sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Joseph and Mrs. George (Maggie) Clay of Niles, Mrs. Robert (Jean) Goss of LeCanto, Fla., Mrs. Marion (Gladys) Allen of Windham, Mrs. Douglas (Marjorie) King of Fowler, and Mrs. Rev. Daniel (Barbara) McCarthy of Albion, N.Y. His brothers, Charles, Arthur, and Floyd, died previously.

Andrew Meluch
NEWTON FALLS - Andrew Meluch, 15, of Cableline Road, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at home.
Born Nov. 29, 1983 in Ravenna, he was the son of Martin and Paula (Portzer) Meluch.
He attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel in Akron, and Happy Day School in Ravenna. He enjoyed toy tractors.
Survivors include his parents; brothers, Valent, Bernard, Paul and Nicholas, all of Newton Falls; sisters, Teresa, Lucia, Mary, Christine, Gretchen, Daisy and Jacinta, all of Newton Falls; and grandparents, Mary E. Meluch of Palmyra and Arthur and Teresa Portzer of Vienna.

Dean Shannon
Dean E. Shannon, 52, of Southington, died Saturday Feb. 13, 1999, at St. Joseph Health Center Eastland in Warren from cancer.
Born Nov. 22, 1946 in Warren, he was the son of Gilbert and Elizabeth (Shoff) Shannon. A life resident of the area, he graduated from Braceville High School and attended Kent State University.
Mr. Shannon was a clerk at Yamaha of Warren. He also was a timekeeper at Van Huffel Sheet and Tube for 19 years.
A U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a lifetime member of West Farmington Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7200. He enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Dora M. (Anderson), whom he married Nov. 23, 1991; stepson, Patrick Riley Jr. of Southington; stepdaughter, Christine E. Berberick of Anchorage, Alaska; one stepgrandchild; brothers, Norman of Cortland, Lloyd of Tyler, Texas, Raymond of Jaffrey, N.H.; and sisters, Arlene Swain of Callao, Peru, Janet Tennant of Ocala, Fla., and Cora Williams of Scottsdale, Ariz.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, 533 N. Park Ave., Warren, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Braceville Township Cemetery.

Dorrine Kandes-Graves
Dorrine Kandes-Graves, 67, of Brownfield, Maine, a former Ravenna resident, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, after a two-year battle with cancer.
Born Feb. 12, 1932 in Ravenna, she was the daughter of John and Orpha Kandes. A graduate of Ravenna High School, she left the Ravenna area in the late 1950s.
Survivors include he sons Glenn (Cheryl) Graves, Clifford (Wendy) Graves and four grandchildren, all of Brownfield, Maine; and brother Harold (Alice) Kandes of Ravenna. Her husband, Clifford; son, Michael, and brother, John, died previously.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday in Fryeburg, Maine.
Susie Brown
Susie Brown, 99, of Ravenna, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born July 19, 1899 in Suffield, she was the daughter of Lewis and Etta (Stonementz) Swartz. She had lived in Ravenna since 1928.
Mrs. Brown retired from the Oak Rubber Co. in Ravenna, where she worked for 36 years.
She was a member of Ravenna Church of the Nazarene since 1935.
Survivors include her niece, Helen Reitz of Eastlake. Her daughter, Mildred Fauver, four brothers; and five sisters died previously.
There will be no calling hours. Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Ravenna Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Dennis Ervin and Rev. Jay Keiser officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna. Arrangements are being handled by Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.
Helen Whitacre
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Canton Christian Home for Helen J. Whitacre, 91, a former Marlboro resident, who died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at the Canton Christian Home.
Born Aug. 31, 1907 she was the daughter of William H. and Barbara S. Whitacre. She was reared in East Cleveland and Cleveland Heights.
She attended the Cleveland Art Institute, and produced highly accomplished small works in the fields of drawing, weaving, enameling, needlepoint and metal work. Into her 70s she received awards at the Ohio State Fair.
Miss Whitacre provided physician office practice support, first with physicians associated with University Hospital in Cleveland. In 1947, after moving to Marlboro, she assisted Drs. King, King and Daskaloff in Alliance.
She later returned to Cleveland to become associated with Dr. Paul Robechek, a surgeon. She became an early guiding force and state officer in the Ohio Association of Medical Assistants.
She later returned to Marlboro and, briefly, moved to Hartville before becoming an early resident of the Canton Christian Home, where she was joined by her sister, Barbara.
Survivors include her nephew, Neil A. MacDougall of Charlottesville, Va., and niece Jean E. Roche of St. Louis.
A family graveside service was held at Lakeview Cemetery in Cleveland.
Helen Gross
Services have been held for Helen P. (Dudzik) Gross, 75, of Mantua who died Jan. 16at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born in Cleveland, she graduated from John Adams High School. The family lived in the Miles Avenue area and, after he marriage, she moved to Macedonia and Twinsburg, and to Mantua in 1971.
Mrs. Gross worked as a waitress for 30 years at the Ramada Inn in Bedford Heights, Ray Kearns in Northfield, Turfside in Warrensville Heights and finally at Kenny King's in Bedford. She retired in 1983.
In more recent years she volunteered her help at the Sassy Cat in Chagrin Falls, Bainbridge Women's Club, the Red Cross and the Autumn Leaves at St. Joseph Church in Mantua.
Survivors include her husband, Gilbert G. Sr., to whom she was married 56 years; son Gilbert G. Jr. (Susan) of Mantua; daughter Patricia A. Zupancic of Bainbridge; five grandchildren; and sister, Agnes Miller.
Services were held Jan. 19 at St. John Funeral Home in Bedford, with Rev. Thomas McCarthy and the Rev. Edward Burba officiating. Cremation followed.
