Doris Mooney
Doris D. Mooney, 87, pf Ravenna, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a period of failing health. Born Feb. 13, 1912 in Trieste, Italy, she had lived in Ravenna for six years. Mrs. Mooney was a homemaker. She also was employed for several years at Richman Bros. Clothing Co. in Cleveland. Survivors include her sons, Richard of Streetsboro and Edward of Rootstown; and a brother, Merkel Orel of Cleveland. A sister died previously. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private. Arrangements were made by Green's Funeral Home in Mantua.

Paul Procario
Paul F. Procario, 85, of Twin Lakes, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999. Born in Rocarassa, Italy, he was the son of Joseph and Grace Procario. He served his country in the Army in World War II. He was also a member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 7. Survivors include his brothers, Rinaldoof Alexandria, Va. and Angelo of Canton; sister, Teresa Salla of Canton; four nephews and two nieces. His wife Donna, to whom he was married 50 years, died previously. Visiation will be held from 7 p.m. until services at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Adams-Mason Memorial Chapel, 791 E. Market St., Akron. The Rev. G. Rod Taylor will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Sharon, Pa.

Page L. Worley, 91, of 1690 Waterloo Road, Mogadore, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at his home after a long illness. Born Sept. 29, 1907 in Trumbull County, he was the son Glenn and Lillie (Brobst) Worley. Mr. Worley was an engineer at B.F. Goodrich Corp. until he retired. He graduated from Carnegie Tech with a degree in civil engineering. He was a member of Mogadore Christian Church. He enjoyed gardening and carpentry. Survivors include his sons, Lyle and Lyn, both of Brimfield, daughter, Myra Arnette of Suffield; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and brother, Leon of Florida. His wife, Ethel I. (Strock), whom he married Oct. 21, 1932, died June 18, 1996. His daughter, Gayle, and brothers, Clair and Glen, also died previously. Calling hours will be held from 12:30 p.m. Thursday until services at 1:30 p.m. at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, 533 N. Park Ave., Warren. Burial will be in Pinecrest Cemetery in Southington. Memorials may be made to the Mogadore Christian Church.

Charles Alger
MANTUA - Charles A. Alger, 68, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born Nov. 29, 1930 in Mantua, he was the son of Samuel and Helen (Sargent) Alger. He was a life resident of Mantua. Mr. Alger worked in the automation department at Chrysler Corporation in Twinsburg, where he retired in 1996 after 30 years. He was a member of Friendship Alliance Church in Auburn, the Portage County 4-H Club and the Mantua Historical Society. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife, Ollie (Luedtke), whom he married in 1954; daughters, Renee (Oliver) Henry of Mantua and Rhonda (Ron) DeCavitch of Mantua; three grandchildren; and sister, Marsha Snow of Ravenna. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Friendship Alliance Church in Auburn, with the Rev. Warren Genry officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Mantua Historical Society or Friendship Alliance Church.

Carol Ranefeldt
Carol Ranefeldt, 50, of Cuyahoga Falls, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at home. Born Feb. 17, 1948 in Ravenna, she was the daughter of William Cole and Mildred (Phillips) Youngman. Mrs. Ranefeldt was a caregiver for the elderly much of her life. She was a member of St. Patrick Church in Kent. Survivors include her sons, Michael (Tari) Northcutt of Atlanta and Frank (Christina) Northcutt; daughter Carri (Chris) Chandler of Atlanta; five grandchildren; brother, William Youngman of Atlanta; and sister, Sally Johnson of Atlanta. Her parents died previously. Calling hours will be held from 9 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Friday at Bissler and Sons Funeral Home in Kent, with the Rev. Joseph Ruggieri officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna.

Eleanor Brown
ATWATER - Eleanor Brown, 84, died Tuesday Feb. 16, 1999. Born July 29, 1914 in Akron, she was the daughter of Edward and Mabel (Johns) Benke. Mrs. Brown was a homemaker. She enjoyed being with her family, feeding birds, caring for her dogs and playing the organ. She lived by the Golden Rule. Survivors include her husband, Clarence, whom she married June 17, 1933; sons, Douglas and Dennis of Houston, Texas; daughter, Barbara Skeen of Georgia; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Private services will be held for the family. Arrangements are being handled by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Pauline McCune
Pauline F. McCune, 94, of Warren, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at Maple Wood Care Centre in Streetsboro, where she had been a resident for the past six weeks. Born May 16, 1904 in Big Run, Pa., she was the daughter of James Bert and Carrie M. (Mitchell) Irvin. She had lived in the Warren area since the early 1940s. Mrs. McCune was a sales associate with Carlisle's Department Store, now Peeble's, in Niles until her retirement. She was a life member of the First Christian Church of Big Run. Survivors include her nephew, Donald P. Ryman of Streetsboro; greatnephews, Douglas Ryman of Streetsboro and Christopher Ryman of Aurora; and greatnieces, Diana Ryman of Ravenna, Cynthia Newsome of Kent and Carrie Ryman of Northfield; Her husband, Harry G; sister, Mildred Strachan; and niece, Patricia Ryman, died previously. Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fairview Cemetery in Big Run, Pa., with the Rev. Jerry Holmes offficiating. Bissler and Sons Funeral Home in Kent is handling arrangements. Sarah F. (Rogers) Walker, 90, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at her home after a short illness with cancer. Born in Keltonburg, Tenn., she had lived in Akron most of her life. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Rootstown and also belonged to the Relief Society Organization. Survivors include her children, Gloria Y. Rich of Akron, Eula D. Henry of Florida, Harold D. Rogers of Akron, Glenn F. Rogers of California, Mary I. Griffin of Missouri, Bonnie Nunley of Brimfield, Linda P. Fischer of Kent, Julia A. Gibson of Kentucky, Thomas L. Rogers of Texas, Genevieve A. Greathouse of Stow and Brenda L. Whitacre of Akron; 32 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Arthur Neal Lamb of Antioch, Tenn. Her husbands, Harold W. Rogers and J.A. Krawick triplets
STREETSBORO - Racheal, Nicholaus, and Zachary Krawick, the infant triplets of Michael and Jody (Deflin) Krawick, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, after being born prematurely at Akron General Hospital. In addition to their parents, survivors include their grandparents, Joseph Deflin of Wheatland, Pa., Roman Krawick of Youngstown and Ann Krawick of Canfield; and great-grandparents, Wasyl Suchar of Youngstown, and Michael and Katheryn Krawick of Carteret, N.J. Their grandmother, Matilda Deflin, died previously. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Evergreen Cemetery in Streetsboro, with the Rev. Frederick Slaven officiating. Roy Lee Miller
Roy Lee Miller, 72, of Lexington Township, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999 at his home following a 30-year illness with multiple sclerosis and lung cancer. Born Jan. 31, 1927 in Alderson, W.Va., he was the son of Samuel R. and Violet (Hicks) Miller. Mr. Miller was employed by Keller Mines of Smith Township as a master mechanic. He was a member of First Congregational Church of Atwater, Alliance Shrine, Tadmor Temple, Conrad and J.E. McFadden, No. 697 of Alliance. Survivors include his wife, Julia (Sukosd), whom he married Sept. 2, 1948; son, Scott L., of North Benton; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Bettie Angelos of Billings, Mont. His son, Michael A., and brother, Charles, died previously. There will be no calling hours. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Atwater Chapel, with the Rev. Lawrence Blaha
MANTUA - Lawrence Blaha, 74, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at home. He was born Oct. 2, 1925 in Cleveland. Mr. Blaha was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his cousins, Glenn and Mary Moravec of Mantua, and June Saxe of Florida. His cousin, Edwin Blaha, died previously. Burial took place Thursday in North Royalton Cemetery in North Royalton. Memorials may be made to Streetsboro Church of God.

Jeffery Callison
SHALERSVILLE - Jeffery R. Callison, 19, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at the Hattie Larlham Foundation in Shalersville. Born Jan. 3, 1980 in Springfield, he was the son of Gary and Christina (Bower) Callison. He had lived at the Hattie Larlham Foundation since 1989. He enjoyed outdoor activities, school, and being with his friends. In addition to his parents, Gary and Christina of Springfield, survivors include his brothers, Gregory of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Kevin of Springfield; and grandparents, Virginia Snider of Springfield, and Joe Callison of Florida. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Grace Lutheran Evangelical Church in Springfield, with the Rev. Daniel Powell officiating. Howard R. Herr
HIRAM - Howard R. Herr, 65, of Hiram Rapids, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at home. Born July 5, 1933 in Hiram Rapids, he was the son of John G. and Goldie (Springer) Herr. He was a life resident of Hiram Rapids. Mr. Herr was a factory worker for 40 years. He worked at the Ravenna Arsenal and at Carlon Industries until he retired in 1996. He also was self-employed with Howard Herr Septic Cleaning. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Survivors include his wife, Anne (Zomerfeld), whom he married June 11, 1957; son, Stephen (Evelyn) Kacenski of Garrettsville; daughters, Maryanne Chamberlin of Mantua, Joyce (Chuck) Fath of Burton, Dianne Long of Streetsboro and Bernice (Mike) Goodrich of Freedom Township; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brothers, Clifford of Vienna, Ohio, Earl of Hiram Rapids, George of West Virginia and Max of Mantua; and sister, Frances Shook of Wadsworth. One grandchild and his brother, Donald, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Paul Zomerfeld officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Hiram Township.

Walter Seipp
Former Rootstown resident Walter Charles Seipp, 80, of Cranberry Township, Pa., died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at the Sherwood Oaks Retirement Village in Cranberry Township. Born Oct. 8, 1918, in Denver, he was the son of Henry and Edna (Wilmes) Seipp. He had lived in Rootstown from 1978 until he moved to Pennsylvania in 1987. He suffered from polio during his childhood and made a complete recovery. He was a graduate of the Colorado School of Mines and began is career in metallurgical Engineering with Alcoa in Cleveland. After 29 years with Alcoa as staff metallurgist and quality assurance manager at the Edison Works in New Jersey, Mr. Seipp took early retirement in 1971 and moved to New Kensington, Ohio, becoming a vice president and general manager for Mansfield Brass and Aluminum Co. In 1978, he moved to Rootstown, where he was quality control manager for the A.C. Williams Co. Mr. Seipp retired from A.C. Williams in 1983 and served for two years as zoning inspector and as a member of the zoning board of appeals in Rootstown. A long time member of the United Church of Christ, he had been an active member of the church in Rootstown. He was a member of the American Society of Metallurgists and of Tau Beta Pi, a professional engineering association. Survivors include his wife, Catherine Anna S. (Cramm), whom he married May 3, 1942; sons William H. of Pittsburgh and Ronald W. of Minneapolis; four grandchildren; and one great grandchild. A local memorial service may be held at a later date. Juanita Whitcomb
WINDHAM - Juanita D. Whitcomb, 53, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna following a brief illness. Born Feb. 18, 1946, in Mason, W.Va., she was the daughter of Alvin Carroll and Dorothy White of Nelson. Mrs. Whitcomb was a homemaker. She was proud of her Native American heritage. She enjoyed horses and spending time outdoors. She liked to travel and spend time with family and friends. Survivors include her husband, Stephen, whom she married March 21, 1991; sons, John Urban of Windham and Joseph Urban of Nelson; daughter, Lee Ellen Booher of Germany; three grandchildren; mother, Dorothy White; step-father, Charles Henley of Nelson; step-mother, Ann Carroll of Fayetville, N.C.; brothers, Jim of Palmaroy, David of Windham and Frank of Texas; sisters, Kelly of Fayetville, N.C., Linda of Mantua, Theresa of N.C., Mary of Mich. and Annie of Fayetville, N.C. Her father, Alvin Carroll and sister, Kathrine died previously. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville. Private burial will be held at a later date.

Miriam Rockwood
GARRETTSVILLE - Miriam Lacy Rockwood, 96, died Friday, Feb. 19, 1999, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a brief illness. Born July 6, 1902 in Adams, Mass., she was the daughter of Aaron and Margaret (Murray) Lacy. She was formerly of Albany, N.Y., and was a six year resident of Garrettsville. Mrs. Rockwood was a photographer. Survivors include her son, Edward Lacy Pratt of Orlando, Fla.; and sister, Lillian of Springfield, Mass. Her husband, Manuel and sisters, Vivian, Margaret, and Pearl died previously. There will be a private funeral and burial. Arrangements are being handled by Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Golden Rule Funeral Home in Garrettsville.

Alexander Lukacik, 81
BRIMFIELD - Alexander M. Lukacik, 81, of Mogadore Road, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, at Wade Park Veterans Hospital in Cleveland. Born April 12, 1917 in Meadowbrook, W.Va., he was the son of Vincent and Agnes (Matula) Lukacik. A life resident of Akron and the Kent area, he was a graduate of Hower Vocational High School. Mr. Lukacik was a cabinetmaker for Brown Graves Lumber Co. until he retired. He was a member of the Ravenna Moose, Kent American Legion, East Akron Eagles and Annunciation Parish Roman Catholic Church in Akron. A World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served on the U.S.S. Prairie in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. He built his own home and enjoyed cooking, traveling, golfing, canoeing, ballroom dancing and country music. He coached CYO boxing and was the assistant coach of the state softball team in the 1950s. He was a fan of the Cleveland Indians and the New York Yankees. Survivors include his brothers, Vincent "Eddie" of Akron, John of Akron, Peter of Brimfield and Joseph of Kent; sisters, Mary Segerlund of Akron, Ann Jussel of Fairfax, Va., and Joan Willson of California; and several nephews and nieces, including David Lukacik of Kent. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Annunciation Catholic Church in Akron, with the Rev. Oliver Smith III, 35
GARRETTSVILLE - Oliver I. "Ollie" Smith III, 35, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna following an apparent heart attack. Born Aug. 2, 1963 in Claridon Township, he was the son of Oliver I. and Monalee (Dimond) Smith, Jr. Formerly of Newbury, he had been a Garrettsville resident for nine years. Mr. Smith was a firefighter and paramedic for the Hiram Fire Department and a paramedic for Community Ambulance Co. in Garrettsville. He also was a paramedic instructor at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland. He was a member of the Ohio Firefighters Association, Ohio EMT Instructors Association, Windham American Legion Post of Windham and Ravenna Moose Club and a former member of the Garrettsville Eagles. He was an avid pool player. He served in the U.S. Army from 1981 to 1989. Survivors include his wife, Dolores "Dolly" (Mask); sons, Anthony Smith of Chardon and Joey Barnett of Auburn; daughters, Molly Barnett, Rebecca Smith, Marie Casper and Nicole Smith, all at home; father and stepmother, Oliver and Cammy Smith of Troy; mother and stepfather, Monalee and Dennis Burns of Selma, N.C.; sister, Jenenne (Alex) Burns of Ft. Bragg, N.C.; and grandmother, Virginia Reichert of Nelson. His brother, Bradley, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday. F. Virginia Somoskey, 70
Freda Virginia Somoskey, 70, of Chelton Drive, Kent, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, at her home. Born May 31, 1928 in Caretta, W.Va., she was the daughter of Albert R. and Ida (Stacy) Phillips. Mrs. Somoskey was a member of Rebekah Lodge No. 90 of Newhall, W.Va., Eastern Star Olive Chapter No. 53 of Kent and the Women of the Moose. She was affiliated with the Holiness Church in West Virginia. Survivors include her husband, Earl, whom she married Sept. 1, 1950; son, Michael (Jody) of Kent; brothers, George Phillips of Welsh, W.Va., and Delano Phillips of Phenix City, Ala.; and sisters, Anna Johnson of Bradshaw, W.Va., Lorene (Bill) Click of Raysal, W.Va., and Pat (Ernest) Mullins of Bristol, Va. Her brothers, James Gibson, Billy Phillips, Douglas Phillips and Harvey Phillips; and sister, Bernice Lane, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, where Eastern Star services will be held at 5:45 p.m. Monday. Daniel Iser
Daniel W. "Bussie" Iser, 66, of Leavittsburg, died Saturday Feb. 20, 1999, at St. Joseph's Eastland in Warren of natural causes. Born March 26, 1932 in Riddlesburg, Pa., he was the son of Zimri and Alverna (Banks) Iser. He was a former resident of Riddlesburg and had lived in Leavittsburg since 1950. He worked for Valley Consolidated in Niles and for Livi Steel in Warren for 14 years until retiring on June 3, 1990. He loved fishing. Survivors include his sons, Danny L. (Cindy) of Williamstown and Kenneth D. (Edie) of Warren; daughters, Mrs. Benjamin (Linda) Davis of Warren and Mrs. Gary (Eileen) Bush of Leavittsburg; stepson, Perry Greg; stepdaughter, Angie Lamb; 13 grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; brothers, Barry R. of Leavittsburg and Fred R. of Lordstown; and sister, Mrs. Helen Holmes of Leavittsburg. His first wife, Christine (Knoch), whom he married Feb. 11, 1950, died Oct. 5, 1980. His second wife, Peggy (Smith), whom he married Aug. 15, 1981, died March 9, 1995. His brothers, Gary and Sonny, also died previously. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Scope of Trumbull County.
