Patricia Wilmington
Patricia A. Wilmington, 54, of Ravenna, died Friday, May 28, 1999, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Sept. 19, 1944, in Haley, Tenn., she was the daughter of Estil and Flora (Burditt) Crockett. She lived in Ravenna for the past 39 years.
Mrs. Wilmington retired as the owner/operator of Pat's Beauty Salon in Ravenna.
She was a member of the Ravenna Avenue Church of God.
Survivors include her husband, James, whom she had been married to for 30 years; sons, Tim of Ravenna and Craig of Akron; daughter, Tara of Ravenna; three grandchildren; and brother, Aubrey Crockett of Memphis, Tenn. Her brother, Billy Crockett, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Ravenna Avenue Church of God, where services will follow at 7:30 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Derrick Kendrick, Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna. Arrangements are being handled by Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.
William Compton
BRIMFIELD - William "Richard" Compton, 82, died Friday, May 28, 1999, at his home.
Born April 26, 1917, in Grisham, Ill, he was the son of Arthur W. and Ruby Margaret (Eccles) Compton. He had lived in Brimfield since 1965.
Mr. Compton retired from Fazio's of Tallmadge where he had been a stock person in the bakery department.
He served in the U.S. Army in World War II with the 32nd Infantry, Company B, 33rd Division, and saw action in Guadal Canal and Boaganville. He later joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Eve Irene (Birow) Compton; sons, Danny of Akron and Larry of Brimfield; daughter, Tawny Widen of Ocala, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; brother, Jesse of Illinois; and sisters, Dorothy Romans and Marjorie Esposito, both of Phoenix, Ariz. His brother, Vane, died in March 1999.
There will be no calling hours. A private ceremony will be held later for the family.

Robert L. Flasher, 73, of Atwater, died Tuesday, June 1, 1999, at Akron City Hospital.

Bradley Martin, 12, of Middlefield, died Tuesday, June 1, 1999, at University Hospitals of Cleveland.

Susan Tiller
SHALERSVILLE - Susan A. Tiller, 53, died Saturday May 29, 1999, at home.
Born Oct. 5, 1945, in Warrensville Heights, she was the daughter of Roland and Irene (McCurdy) Schultz. Formerly of Garfield Heights, she was a resident of the Shalersville area for the past 14 years.
She was a cashier at the Burger King Restaurant in Solon for the past 10 years.
She graduated from Chagrin Falls High School in 1963.
Survivors include her sons, Ken Reitz and Dave Tiller, both of Shalersville. Her parents died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Acacia Memorial Park Cemetery, 1880 S.O.M. Center Road, Mayfield Heights, Ohio.
James Davis
Former Ravenna and Newton Falls resident, James A. Davis, 78, died Sunday, May 30, 1999, in Bardstown, Ky. following a long illness.
Born Nov. 22, 1920, in Ravenna, he was the son of Joseph D. and Margaret C. (Summerville) Davis. He had lived in Cleveland and Newton Falls.
Mr. Davis was a master mill wright at the Ravenna Arsenal, and also worked construction for many years. He was an entertainer for a number of years, going by the name, Jimmy O'Shea. He retired as a master chef.
He loved playing the guitar and singing. He enjoyed good food and cooking.
He was a life member of the American Legion in Brady Lake, and was a member of the D.A.V. and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Newton Falls.
Survivors include his daughter, Margaretann Johnson of Elizabethtown, Ky.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Alice Garro of Newton Falls. His sisters, Clementine Davis, Bertha Woodley, Ruth Nagy and Marie Habaczko; and brothers, William Davis, Joseph Davis and John Davis, all died previously.
There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna with the Rev. Robert A. Sabatino officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.
Marcie Elliott
STREETSBORO - Macie J. "Granny" Elliott, 100, died Tuesday, June 1, 1999, at Maple Wood Care Center.
Born June 5, 1898, in Robbinsville, N.C., she was the daughter of Samuel and Maggie (Owens) Jones. She has been a Summit and Portage county resident since 1960.
Mrs. Elliott was a homemaker.
She was the senior member of the Hanging Dog Baptist Church of Murphy, N.C.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia (Herbert) Brunswick of Tallmadge; grandchildren, Jeffrey Tyson of Tallmadge and Kelly Tyson of Ravenna; and great-grandson, Robert Garvin of Ravenna. Her husband, the Rev. William P. Elliott, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Townson Rose Funeral Home, 138 Peach Tree Road, Murphy, N.C. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hanging Dog Baptist Church, Murphy, N.C. with the Rev. Hadley Shields officiating. Local arrangements are being handled by the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Clyde J. Flynt
NELSON - Clyde J. Flint, 67, died Tuesday, June 1, 1999, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a brief illness.
Born August 20, 1931, in Braxton, W.Va., he was the son of Arch and Mary (Cutlip) Flint. He was a 29-year resident of Nelson.
Mr. Flint worked for the Penn-Central Railroad "Conrail" as a brakeman-conductor from 1957 to 1986.
He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the United Transportation Union.
Survivors include his wife, Etta (Morris), whom he married Sept. 1, 1962; son, Clyde W. of Nelson; daughters, Teresa "Susie" Zimmerman of Mantua and Auline Dean of Garrettsville; five grandchildren; brothers, William of West Virginia, John of Aurora and James of West Virginia; half-brother, Earl of West Virginia; and sisters, Colleen Hamric of West Virginia, Florine Adkins of Pebbles, Wavelene Leone of Florida, Marlene Fitzwater of West Virginia and Ora Wright of West Virginia. His brother, Burton died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville, where services will follow at 11 a.m. Friday. There will be a military service in Harrington Cemetery in Nelson Township where he will be buried.
F.R. Baumgardner
STOW - F.R. (Boots) Baumgardner, 74, died Wednesday, June 2, 1999, at The Arbors Nursing Home in Fairlawn.
Born July 1, 1924, in Rootstown, he was the son of Ralph and Hazel Baumgardner.
Mr. Baumgardner was a truck driver for Standard Oil/Coastal Tank Lines for 41 years before retiring in 1984. He was a member of Retired Teamsters Local 24. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe with the 1st Army. He was awarded four bronze stars. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting trips with his sons and friends.
Survivors include his sons, David (Maureen) of Stow and Tod (Julie) of Stow; three grandchildren; brothers, Paul and Park of Stow, Harold of Mississippi and Robert of California; and sisters, Luella Moore of Kent, Edith Stack and Lucille Brooks of Mississippi. His wife, Joan, parents, and brother, Richard, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Dunn-Quigley-Circiello & Carr Funeral Home in Stow where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Floyd Mault officiating. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens in Cuyahoga Falls.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
Frank J. Stipe
WINDHAM - Frank J. Stipe, 70, died Wednesday, June 2, 1999, at home after a long illness.
Born Oct. 16, 1928, in Flemington, W.Va., he was the son of Therman and Alta (Lake) Stipe.
Mr. Stipe was a clerk/carrier with the U.S. Postal Service until retiring.
He graduated from Flemington High School in West Virginia. He also was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his brother, Paul (Mae) Stipe of Grafton, W.Va.; sisters-in-law, Charlene Spencer of Grafton, Camella Richmond of Ohio, Wanda (Gary) Lanz of Grafton, and Rita (Pete) Boblett of Beckley, W.Va. His wife, Kathleen F. (Sheppard) and brother, Ralph, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill, W.Va., where services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Don Markham officiating. Burial will be in Hilltop Cemetery in Hilltop, W.Va. with military graveside rites by VFW Post # 3110 of Oak Hill.

Rita A. Holland
STREETSBORO - Rita A. Holland, 80, died Wednesday, June 2, 1999, at home.
Born Dec. 22, 1918, in Cleveland, she was the daughter of Elmer and Frances Kanecki. She had been a Streetsboro resident since 1954 and was formerly of Cleveland.
Mrs. Holland was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Streetsboro.
Survivors include her son, Thomas of Dallas; Joyce (Clarence) Silhavy of Streetsboro; and four grandchildren. Her husband, Roy, died in 1985.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Shorts Funeral Home Streetsboro Chapel. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joan of Arc Church, with the Rev. Frederick Slaven officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg.

Herbert King, 68, of Ravenna died Thursday June 3, 1999, at University Hospitals in Cleveland.

Ellen Louise Heffner
Former Ravenna resident Ellen Louise (Hoff) Heffner, 66, of Cortland, died Thursday, June 3, 1999, at St. Joseph's Health Center.
Born Feb. 17, 1933, in Ravenna, she was the daughter of Thomas J. Hoff and Minnie E. Wagoner Hoff.
Mrs. Heffner was a homemaker.
She was a 1951 graduate of Ravenna High School, and she enjoyed arts and crafts and researching family genealogy.
Survivors include her sons, Daniel R. and John K. of Cortland; daughter, Deserie (Donald) Lord of Bristolville; one granddaughter; brothers, William Hoff of North Carolina and George Hoff of Oklahoma City; sister, Betty (Paul) Dobrilovic of Kent; and half-sister, Susan Gray of Ravenna. Her husband, Robert Wirt Heffner, whom she married Aug. 18, 1952, died previously.
Cremation has taken place. Arrangements were handled by Shafer-Winans Funeral Home in Cortland.

Alvin Potts
SUFFIELD - Alvin H. Potts, 60, died Thursday, June 3, 1999, at home after a short illness.
Born in Akron, he was the son of Denvil and Edith Potts. He had lived in the area most of his life.
Mr. Potts was a truck driver for the U.S. Postal Service.
He served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Community Bible Church.
Survivors include his wife, Becky; sons, Nolan, Michael A., Wayne and John; daughters, Anna Lynn, Kim, Dianna, Renee, Sherry, Lori and Pam; and four grandchildren. His parents and sister, Norma Lehner, died previously.

Elsie Thomas
Elsie M. Thomas, 70, of Akron died Wednesday June 2, 1999.
Born in Akron, she was a lifetime resident and former resident of Cuyahoga Falls.
Mrs. Thomas was a member of the retail clerks union, and worked at Valley View Nursing Home in the Housekeeping Department until retiring. She also had been an employee of the month at the nursing home.
Survivors include her sons, Edward R. of Cuyahoga Falls, William P. of Colorado Springs, Ronald E. of Colorado Springs and Jerry M. of Akron; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sisters, Dorcas Matteson, Emily, Barb, Grace Burton and Marilyn Thomas. Her husband, Edward R. "Ray," died previously.

Dorothy Wyatt
Former Atwater resident, Dorothy R. Wyatt, 87, of Akron, died Thursday, June 3, 1999, at St. Thomas Hospital.
Born April 21, 1912, in Cuyahoga Falls, she was the daughter of Clinton and Celina (Harvey) Kimes.
Mrs. Wyatt had worked as a seamstress at ATCO in Cuyahoga Falls for 30 years.
Survivors include her daughter, Bona (Robert) Wagner of Streetsboro; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Rex (Jeri) of Florida and Walter (Caroline) of Stow; and sister, Marion (Emerson) Clark of Cuyahoga Falls. Her son, Samuel Wyatt, daughter, Hilda Lemon and sisters, Nina Chase, Mabel Slater, Hazel Watson and Laural Johnson, all died previously.

Memorial services for Grace Sibbio, 73, of Kent, who died Saturday, May 29, 1999, have been chanceled.

Edward L. Fulkerson
Edward L. Fulkerson, 68, of North Benton, died Thursday, June 3, 1999, at Akron City Hospital.
Born Oct. 7, 1930 in Cleveland, he was the son of Homer L. and Edna (Stesny) Fulkerson.
Mr. Fulkerson retired as a body shop manager at Blaushield Chevrolet.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, and he was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Sebring and a former member of the Knights of Columbus in Cleveland.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey (Simon); sons, Jeffrey A. of Deerfield, Kenneth L. (Linda) of Ravenna; and two grandchildren. His parents died previously.
Cremation was held. Services will be held at a later date.

Marguerite O'Toole Akenhead, 86
Marguerite O'Toole Akenhead, 86, of Jupiter, Fla. died Friday, May 28, 1999 in Florida.
She was born Oct. 24, 1912 in Philadelphia, Pa.
Mrs. Akenhead worked as a legal stenographer.
She enjoyed crossword puzzles, financial investments and politics. She enjoyed staying current with worldwide events and debating political issues.
Survivors include her daughters, Karen (Reed) Beck of Kent and Kathleen (Jerry) Petrofes of Palmyra, Pa.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at noon Sunday, June 13, at the United Methodist Church of Kent.

Mildred Acholias, 89
Graveside services will be held Wednesday in Kent for former Kent resident Mildred Acholias, 89, who died Dec. 4, 1998 in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Mrs. Acholias was a longtime resident of Kent, living on Franklin Avenue for many years until 1990, when she moved to Florida.
She was employed at Kent State University, retiring from the Food Service division in 1976.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent, with the Rev. Douglas Fidler officiating.
