Betty J. Harnar
NEWTON FALLS - Betty J. Harnar, 75, died Saturday, June 12, 1999, at Laurie-Ann Nursing Home, Newton Falls.
Born Oct 26, 1924, in Columbus, she was the daughter of Leland and Mildred (Goff) Pritchard, who had a farm in Paris Township.
Mrs. Harnar was a member of the Lordstown Lutheran Church,
Survivors include sons, Harland B. of Southington, with whom she lived, Barry of Newton Falls; and five grandchildren.
Her husband, Ralph, died in 1988 and daughter, Marjorie Harnar, died in 1992. A brother, Jack, and sister, Eilene, also died previously.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Borowski Funeral Home in Newton Falls, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Hawley Cemetery, Paris.
Mitchell A. Rasinski
Mitchell A. Rasinski, 84, of Akron, died Wednesday, June 9, 1999.
He was born in Akron, where he lived all his life.
Mr. Rasinski retired after 42 years of service with General Tire & Rubber.
He was an area musician for many years. He was a member of the Alliance of Poles of America No. 148 and the Polish National Alliance No. 1088. He was also a member of St. Hedwig's Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jennie M. (Drongowski); son, Conrad Rasinski of Akron; daughter, Mary Ann (John) Lampe of Randolph; five grandchildren; three great-grand-children. His brother, Chester; and sister, Stella Boarman, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Hennessy-Bagnoli Funeral Home, 936 North Main Street, Akron. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Hedwig's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Athena K. Harley
Athena Katherine Harley, 96, of Longmere Drive in Kent, died Saturday, June 12, 1999, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born October 22, 1902, in Radcliffe, Iowa, she was the daughter of John and Laura (Bishop) Himmel. In January 1996, she moved to Kent into Kentway, then to Stow-Glen, and finally to her home with her son.
In Iowa, she operated a specialty sewing business in her home dealing with restorations and fine tailoring.
She was known as a neighborhood grandmother. She was a member of the Questor's Club in Des Moines, Iowa. She also was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and the Central Presbyterian Church in Des Moines, Iowa.
Survivors include her son, Dr. Ralph L. Harley, Jr. of Kent. Her husband, Ralph LeRoy Harley, Sr. died in 1970; and brother, Loran B. Himmel, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home. Burial will be in Des Moines, Iowa.
Cynthia Bechter
Cynthia "Cindy" Bechter (Atkinson), 41, of Uniontown, died Friday, June 11, 1999.
Mrs. Bechter lived most of her life in Akron.
She was devoted to her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her son, Michael Johnson of Barberton; daughters, Melissa Johnson of Akron and Amy Johnson of Kent; three grandchildren; father, Ray Atkinson, Sr.; step-mother, Betty; brothers, Ray (Laura) Atkinson, Jr. of Florida, Danny (Amy) Atkinson of Akron; sisters, Pam (Randy) Scofield of Akron, Tina (Alex) Gangl of Green; and grandmothers, Mildred Wright and Winona Atkinson, both of Kent. Her mother, Sandra L. Atkinson; and grandfathers, Bernie Wright and Martin Atkinson, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Hopkins Lawver Uniontown Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale Street, where services will be held at noon on Monday with the Rev. Mike Nichols officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna.
Dorothy F. Faulman
Dorothy F. Faulman, 89, of Overlook Drive in Kent, died Saturday, June 12, 1999, at Anna Maria of Aurora.
Born May 6, 1910, in Columbus, she was the daughter of Harry E. and Julia (Beaverson) Reynolds. She graduated from Carleton College in 1932. She was an Aurora resident since 1956.
With her late husband, she owned and operated Calico Corners in Aurora from 1956 to 1975.
She was a member of the Church in Aurora for 43 years. She also was a member of Circle "D", Aurora Study Club and the Aurora Historical Society.
Survivors include daughters, Elizabeth Larsen of Half Moon Bay, Calif., Nancy Auran of Kent; step-son, John Faulman of Osprey, Fla.; three grandchildren; and sister, Julia Gale of Richfield, Minn. Her husband, Marvin; daughter, Gail Frances Williams; and brother, Harriman Reynolds, all died previously.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent with Rev. Steven Lashbrook officiating.

Ronald Bratton
ROOTSTOWN - Ronald L. "Pete" Bratton, 69, died Sunday, June 13, 1999, at his hone.
Born May 16, 1930 in Arvona, Pa., he had lived in Rootstown since 1952.
Mr. Bratton was the owner/operator of Aces & Eight Lounge in Ravenna. He retired from Best Roofing and Sheet Metal.
He was a member of Ravenna Moose Lodge No. 1234.
Survivors include his son, Terry (Mary) of Rootstown; daughter, Ann Marie Sinclair Sierra of Tampa, Fla.; stepson, Luke (Becky) Nagle of Ravenna; stepdaughter, Judy (Gene) Snyder of Flinton, Pa.; four grandchildren; stepmother, Roberta "Bobby" Bratton of Arvona, Pa.; and brother, Harold "Dewey," of Houtzdale, Pa. His sister, Barbara, died previously.

Ruth Booth
Former Windham resident Ruth Booth, 83, of Nevada, died Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at St. George Care Center in Utah.
Born Oct. 18, 1915 in Providence, Utah, she was the daughter of Lindsey M. and Sarah (Quebell) Brady. She was a Windham resident for 12 years.
Mrs. Booth was a homemaker.
Survivors include her sons, Robert E. of Utah and Edward H. of Garrettsville; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brother, Grant Booth of Utah. Her husband, Edwin Booth, whom she married Dec. 30, 1944, died June 25, 1986. Her son, Robert E., died previously.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 6049 Pioneer Trail, Mantua, where services will follow at 11 a.m., with Bishop Robert Berryhill officiating. Burial will be in Windham Township Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville.
Thelma Taylor
STREETSBORO - Thelma L. Taylor, 62, died Saturday, June 12, 1999 at her home.
Born Aug. 16, 1936 in Crossville, Tenn., she was the daughter of Lee and Belle (Turner) Adams. She had lived in Streetsboro since 1964.
Mrs. Taylor was a homemaker.
She attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Hiram.
Survivors include her sons, Ray D. and Kevin S., both of Streetsboro; daughter, Donna M. Howell of Streetsboro; 15 grandchildren; brother, Charles Adams of Tennessee; four stepbrothers; and six step-sisters. Her husband, Roscoe R., died Aug. 23, 1998. Her son, Keith, died April 18, 1994. Her sister, Ann Vaughn, also died previously.

Ruth Seckel
Ruth Seckel, 77, of Ravenna, died Friday, June 11, 1999, at Maple Wood Care Centre in Streetsboro.
Born Oct. 7, 1921 in Cleveland, she had lived in Ravenna for 25 years. She was a former Maple Heights resident.
Mrs. Seckel was a machinist. She was employed at Brush Wellman in Bedford for 27 years in the brake wing until she retired.
Survivors include her husband, Herbert W.; daughters, Betty (Andrew) Martin of Santee, S.C., and Peggy (Tim) Osinski of Ravenna; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Her sister, Betty Andrews, died previously.
Calling hours will be private. Private services will be held today at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel with the Rev. Lorren O'Dell Scott officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg.
Patty Hoffstetter
Patty Hoffstetter, 66, of Green Valley, Ariz., a former Freedom Township resident, died Monday, June 7, 1999, at her home.
She was the daughter of William and Essie (Smith) Williamson.
Mrs. Hoffstether worked at Polson Rubber Co. in Garrettsville until she moved to Arizona in 1979.
Survivors include her daughter, Carla Rae Marbut; one grandchild; brother, Robert Williamson of Garrettsville; and sisters, Evelyn Andrews of Garrettsville and Joan Tarman of Tulsa, Okla. Her husband, Elmer, and brothers, Ralph and Bill Williamson died previously.
Services were held Monday in Green Valley.
Augustine Yanasco
Augustine O. Yanasco, 92, formerly of Newton Falls, died Monday June 14, 1999, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Warren.
Born June 23, 1906 in Paris, France, she was the daughter of Pierre and Marie (Hegreauld) Seris.
Mrs. Yanasco was a nurse during the German occupation of France and later was employed at Green Cross Hospital in Warren.
She was a member of St. Michael Church in Newton Falls.
Survivors include her daughter, Marie Fisher of Warren; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters in France. Her husband, Steve, whom she married Aug. 28, 1945, died July 12, 1988.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Borowski Funeral Home in Newton Falls.Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael Church in Newton Falls. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery.

James Nagella Jr.
James Nagella Jr., 48, died Thursday May 27, 1999, in Carrollton, Texas, after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
Born Aug. 17, 1950 in Ravenna, he was the son of James Sr. and Angela (Delano) Nagella.
Mr. Nagella graduated from Ravenna High School, Akron St. Thomas School of Radiology and Wesleyan College of Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia (Janczewski); sons, Christopher and Trey, both of Texas; one granddaughter; parents, Jim and Angela; brother, Stephen; sister, Beth Ann (Bill) Stone of Ravenna; and grandmother, Josephine Delano.
Cremation has taken place in Texas.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Church.

Donald Muntz Jr.
Donald F. Muntz Jr., 44, died Saturday, June 12, 1999, of an apparent heart attack at his home in Cleveland. Results of an autopsy are pending.
Born Aug. 12, 1954 in Cleveland, he was the son of Donald F. and Sally (Black) Muntz. Reared in Aurora, attended St. Rita School in Solon and Aurora High School.
Mr. Muntz retired in 1998 from Swaglok in Solon, where he worked for 25 years.
He was an original organizer of the youth group at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Aurora and played guitar during folk masses. He also called square dances and was interested in square dancing competitions.
Survivors include his parents, Donald and Sally of Aurora; brothers, Kenneth M. (Jan) of Mentor, and John A. of Heath, Ohio; and niece, Dianne.
There will be no calling hours. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Aurora. Kindrich-McHugh Steinbauer Funeral Home of Solon is handling arrangements.

GARRETTSVILLE - Edna M. Dean, 68, died Monday, June 14, 1999.
Born Jan. 17, 1931 in Escanaba, Mich., she was the daughter of Floyd and Sadie (Mullins) Morrison.
Mrs. Dean was a former employee at Sears and Roebuck. She was a self employed contract cleaner.
She was member of Nelson United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her sons, Edgar Jr., and Dale (Louise), both of Garrettsville; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; sisters, Mildred Martin and Martha Mego, both of Lemont Furnace, Pa.; and friend, Ruth Randlett of Windham. Her husband, Edgar Sr., and granddaughter, Kimberly, died previously.

PALMYRA - Betty J. Sampson, 72, died Saturday June 12, 1999, after a long illness.
Born Nov. 14, 1926 in Clarksburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of James D. and Marie (Plant) Long. She lived in Portage County most of her life.
Mrs. Sampson had been employed at Morry's Clothing in Ravenna.
She was a member of Palmyra United Methodist Church and Palmyra Chapter No. 120, Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas, to whom she was married 53 years; sons, Thomas Jr. (Nancy) and Timothy (Susan), both of Palmyra; daughters, Tracie (Lee) Martin, Judy Gibbons, Claudia (Glen) Griffith, all of Ravenna, April (Jeffrey) Greene of Streetsboro, Lori (Doug) Reed of Newton Falls; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Erma Russell of Carrollton. Her brother, William Barnes, and granddaughter, Jessica, died previously.

Laurence E. Kelly, 68, of Ravenna, died Tuesday, June 15, 1999, at his home.
Born March 24, 1931 in Seneca, Pa., he was the son of Harry F. and Luella (Wright) Kelly. He had lived in Ravenna for45 years.
Mr. Kelly was the owner of Kelly's Garage and Used Cars in Ravenna.He previously was employed by the Ravenna Arsenal and Ford Motor Co.
He had attended Randolph United Methodist Church.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Marlin Downey, 78
MANTUA - Marlin H. Downey, 78, died Monday, June 14, 1999, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a long illness.
Born Aug. 5, 1920 in Madisonville, Ky., he was the son of Noah and Pauline (Hayes) Downey. He was a resident of the Hiram, Mantua and Garrettsville areas for many years. He formerly lived in Houston, Texas for 10 years and also had lived in Detroit, Mich. for several years.
Mr. Downey was employed for 32 years by Hyper Tool Co. in Bainbridge as a purchasing agent, retiring in 1982.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of Disabled American Veterans in Detroit. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Marie (Bohn); sons, Marlin R. of Laurel, Md., and Brian (Nancy) of Twinsburg; daughter, Susan Downey Fromwiller of Mantua; and five grandchildren.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the residence of Brian Downey, 1071 Waldo Way, Twinsburg. Cremation has taken place. Green's Funeral Home in Mantua handled arrangements.
Thomas Roland, 41
Thomas C. Roland, 41, of Akron died Saturday, June 12, 1999.
Born Jan. 15, 1958 in Ravenna, he was the son of Robert and Velma (Ashman) Roland.
Mr. Roland worked in construction and was a truck driver.
Survivors include son Joshua Roland of Kent; daughter Teresa Roland of Akron; two grandchildren; father and stepmother Robert and Bernice Roland of Stow; mother and stepfather Velma and James Rose of Akron; sisters, Ginger Boyd of Arizona, Peggy Miller of Cleveland and Carol Roland of Akron.
A memorial service was held at noon today at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.
George "Rick" Putt, 49
George Richard "Rick" Putt, 49, of Jonesborough, Tenn., formerly of the Mantua area, died Tuesday, June 8, 1999, at home following a lengthy illness.
Born Oct. 15, 1949, in Alliance, he was the son of Robert and Anne (Veon) Putt. He was reared in Portage County and attended Crestwood Schools in Hiram and Mantua.
Mr. Putt, known as "Yankee," enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17, serving in Korea and other locations. Following his military service, he lived and worked clearing TVA right-of-ways in Nicut, W.Va., and Mahan, W.Va. He then moved to Jonesborough and was employed by K&K Construction until his disabling illness.
Survivors include his son, Clayton D.; stepdaughters, Jennifer and Bellamy Ely, of New Concord, Ohio, and Kathaleen Ciganik of Gray, Tenn.; former wife, Rhonda Holeton of New Concord. His aunt, Norma Jean Kieth of Shalersville, died previously.
Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Episcopal Church, 500 N. Roan St., Johnson City, Tenn. Arrangements were made by Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home in Jonesborough, Tenn.
Raymond Lee Moore, 40
NELSON - Raymond Lee Moore, 40, died unexpectedly Monday, June 14, 1999, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Jan. 28, 1959, in Niagara Falls, N.Y., he was the son of Oval J. and Barbra E. (Smith) Moore. A former Painesville resident, he had lived in Nelson for eight years.
Mr. Moore was employed as a factory worker and in construction.
Survivors include his daughter, Holly of Winfield, W.Va.; mother, Barbra of Mt. Nebo, W.Va.; brothers, Melvin J. of Runa W.Va., Marvin J. of Perry, Ohio, Dennis L. of Thompson, Ohio, and Roger D. of Painesville; sister, Mary J. Moore of Runa, W.Va.; and companion, Robin Sawastuk of Nelson. His father, Oval J., died May 4, 1984.
